Database Modelling - Conceptually different entities but with near identical fields

Suppose you have two sets of conceptual entities: MarketPriceDataSet which has multiple ForwardPriceEntries PoolPriceForecastDataSet which has multiple PoolPriceForecastEntry Both different child objects have near identical fields: ForwardPriceEntry has MarketPriceDataSetId (foreign key to parent table) StartDate EndDate SimulationItemId ForwardPrice PoolPriceForecastEntry has PoolPriceForecastDataSetId (foreign key to parent table) StartDate EndDate SimulationItemId ForecastPoolPrice If I modelled them as separate tables, the only difference would be the foreign key, and the name of the price field. There has been a debate as to whether the two near identical tables should be merged into one. Options I've thought of to model this is: Just keep them as two independent, separate tables Have both sets in the one table with an additional "type" field, and a parent_id equalling a foreign key to either parent table. This would sacrifice referential integrity checks. Have both sets in the one table with an additional "type" field, and create a complicated sequence of joining tables to maintain referential integrity. What do you think I should do, and why?

I'm building a test, in wich i need to send question, and wait for the answer. Message passing is not the problem. In fact to figure out wich answer correspond to wich question, i use an id. My id is generated using an UUID. an i want to retrieve this id, wich is given as a parameter to a mocked object. It look like this: oneOf(message).setJMSCorrelationID(with(correlationId)); inSequence(sequence); Where correlationId is the string i'd like to keep for an other expecteation like this one: oneOf(session).createBrowser(with(inputChannel), with("JMSType ='pong' AND JMSCorrelationId = '"+correlationId+"'")); have you got an answer?

JTextField that has inner fields or preformated format, something like the ip field in windows

Hello guys, i want to create a text field that will be for date and will have dd.mm.YYYY format. Now what i want to do is the user to type only the numbers, not the dots to. So the field would be like: _ _. _ _ . _ _ _ _ So when the user wants to type the date: 15.05.2010 for example, he will only type the numbers in the sequence 15052010. Also i would like, when he preses on left or right arrow, the cursor to go from one field(not JTextField, but field in the JTextField). So lets say i have JTextField with text in it: 15.05.2010, so if user is on the beginning and he preses right arrow, the cursor to go to the .05 field. I hope you understand me 'cos right now i don't any idea how to make this, or at least how to look for it on google. Thank you.

Getting error 400 / 404 - HttpUtility.UrlEncode not encoding full string?

Why do the following URLs give me the IIS errors below: A) http://192.168.1.96/cms/View.aspx/Show/Small+test' A2) http://192.168.1.96/cms/View.aspx/Show/Small%20test' <-- this works, but is not the result from HttpUtility.UrlEncode() B) http://192.168.1.96/cms/View.aspx/Show/'%26$%23funky**!!~''+page Error for A: HTTP Error 404.11 - Not Found The request filtering module is configured to deny a request that contains a double escape sequence. Error for B: HTTP Error 400.0 - Bad Request ASP.NET detected invalid characters in the URL. The last part of the URL after /Show/ is the result after the text is being sent through HttpUtility.UrlEncode() so, according to Microsoft it is URL Encoded correctly. If I user HttpUtility.UrlPathEncode() rather than HttpUtility.UrlEncode() I get the A2 results. But B ends up looking like: http://192.168.1.96/TVCMS-CVJZ/cms/View.aspx/Show/'&$#funky**!!~''%20page which is still wrong. Does Microsoft know how to URL Encode at all? Is there a function someone has written up to do it the correct way?

Plural to Singular conversion trouble in Rails Migrations?

Hi, I'm a beginner at Ruby On Rails and am trying to get a migration to work with the name Priorities So, here is the code I use in my migration: class Priorities < ActiveRecord::Migration def self.up create_table :priorities do |t| t.column :name, :string, :null => false, :limit => 32 end Priority.create :name => "Critical" Priority.create :name => "Major" Priority.create :name => "Minor" end def self.down drop_table :priorities end end This results in the following error though: NOTICE: CREATE TABLE will create implicit sequence "priorities_id_seq" for serial column "priorities.id" NOTICE: CREATE TABLE / PRIMARY KEY will create implicit index "priorities_pkey" for table "priorities" rake aborted! An error has occurred, this and all later migrations canceled: uninitialized constant Priorities::Priority Is this some problem with turning ies to y for converting something plural to singular?

Here is the sequence of events I would like to see happen: Visitor shows up to my site and clicks the connect button Visitor authorizes the connection by logging into their facebook account My site records their authorization My site posts to their wall "Sally just joined http://foo.com. A website about foo." Much later, my site can post other updates to the users wall using the stored authorization from step 3. Sally doesn't have to be actively on my site at the time this post to their wall happens. Thanks in advance.

CORE DATA objectId changes constantly

Hello, I have some data that I export into an XML file and put in a remote FTP Server. I have to identified each object with a unique attribute, it doesn't matter wich is, but must be persistent always = it can never change. I don't want to create a unique attribute, sequence, serial, etc. I'm using the objectID but every time I use it a get a new reference. I know that before the object has been saved, it has a 'temporal id', but once it's saved, it gets the definitive. I'm not seeing this, never. I assume it also sorts the blank lines...anybody knows why? thanks in advance

I assume that this is the reason for the latter error that I don't have a database configuration. MS Access Mark Duplicates in order of appearance - using the function RankOfDup: (SELECT Count(*) ...)

I'm trying to create Ranking that shows the sequence of agreements for the two fields Customers and Agreements. The number for agreements must be unique, whereas customers can repeat. The formula RankOfDup: (SELECT Count(*) FROM Data a WHERE a.customer=Data.customer And a.agreement >= Data.agreement) Works beautifully but after this query with columns Agreement, Customer and RankofDup, I need to create crosstab that transposes the RankofDub. It works when I make the table first and then create query but my data is too large so I'm trying to put the select query with the ranking in a crosstab query. However, when I try to do this Access gives error message that microsoft jet ... doesn't recognise Data.customer? Any ideas how I can fix this?

I want to find the longest possible sequence of words that match the following rules: Each word can be used at most once All words are Strings Two strings sa and sb can be concatenated if the LAST two characters of sa matches the first two characters of sb. In the case of concatenation, it is performed by overlapping those characters. For example: sa = "torino" sb = "novara" sa concat sb = "torinovara" For example, I have the following input file, "input.txt": novara torino vercelli ravenna napoli liverno messania noviligure roma And, the output of the above file according to the above rules should be: torino novara ravenna napoli livorno noviligure since the longest possible concatenation is: torinovaravennapolivornovilligure Can anyone please help me out with this? Encoding gives "'ascii' codec can't encode character … ordinal not in range(128)"

I am working through the Django RSS reader project here. The RSS feed will read something like "OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — James Harden let". The RSS feed's encoding reads encoding="UTF-8" so I believe I am passing utf-8 to markdown in the code snippet below. The em dash is where it chokes. I get the Django error of "'ascii' codec can't encode character u'\u2014' in position 109: ordinal not in range(128)" which is an UnicodeEncodeError. In the variables being passed I see "OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) \u2014 James Harden". The code line that is not working is: content = content.encode(parsed_feed.encoding, "xmlcharrefreplace") I am using markdown 2.0, django 1.1, and python 2.4. What is the magic sequence of encoding and decoding that I need to do to make this work? Thanks.

jQuery get value from checked element with a given name

I've got an input like so: I'd like to use jQuery to grab that element, and add the function call foo() to the change event. Currently I can get it done, but there are two hacks involved. My (working) code: $(":input[name*=myfield]").change( function( $(":input[name*=myfield]") ) { foo(); }); )}; There are two hacks in there I'd like to eliminate. Keeping in mind that the input names are multidimensional arrays, how can I use the :input[name=somename], versus [name*=someone]? I'd imagine it's faster using an exact name rather than *=, but I can't get the escape sequence correct for the brackets on the multidimensional arrays. Can I chain the call together so that I don't have to select the element twice? Is the standard practice for that to select the HTML element into a var, then use that var? Or can I chain it together? Thanks for the help. Still working on getting my footing in JS/JQ.

Problem with sendkeys in .NET

I have a windows application, where I am using send keys to navigate from one window to another. My send key sequence is like activating another window with in my app, and sending key strokes to that window. But the key strokes I am sending is getting updated in the same window where I am activating the other window. But after few key strokes it is going to the other window. Seems like synchonization issue with send keys. Is there a way to specify the operation of the current send key is finished, before sending the next sendkey.

How to detect pending system shutdown on Linux?

Hi, I am working on an app where I need to detect system shutdown. However, I have not found any reliable way get a notification on this event. I know that on shutdown, my app will receive a SIGTERM signal followed by a SIGKILL. What I want to know is if there is someway to query if a SIGTERM is part of a shutdown sequence? Does any one know if there is a way to query that programmatically (C API)? As far as I know, the system does not provide any other method to query for an impending shutdowm. If it does, that would solve my problem as well. I have been trying out runlevels as well, but change in runlevels seem to be instantaneous and without any prior warnings.

I'm having trouble finding a regular expression that matches the following String. Korben;http://feeds.feedburner.com/KorbensBlog-UpgradeYourMind?format=xml;1 One problem is escaping the question mark. Java's pattern matcher doesn't seem to accept \? as a valid escape sequence but it also fails to work with the tester at myregexp.com. Here's what I have so far: ([a-zA-Z0-9])+;http://([a-zA-Z0-9./-]+);[0-9]+ Any suggestions? Edit: The original intent was to match all URLs that could be found after the first semi colon.

The C++ comma operator is used to chain individual expressions, yielding the value of the last executed expression as the result. For example the skeleton code (6 statements, 6 expressions): step1; step2; if (condition) step3; return step4; else return step5; May be rewritten to: (1 statement, 6 expressions) return step1, step2, condition? step3, step4 : step5; I noticed that it is not possible to perform step-by-step debugging of such code, as the expression chain seems to be executed as a whole. Does it means that the compiler is able to perform special optimizations which are not possible with the traditional statement approach (specially if the steps are const or inline)? Note: I'm not talking about the coding style merit of that way of expressing sequence of expressions! Just about the possible optimisations allowed by replacing statements by expressions.

Xcode 5 new bug

Since the recent IOS update last month I have been having issues with this new bug that has hampered my program. The bug is as follows: using a UIButton and I want to insert a value into it, only after my execution ends does a letter actually appear. But if I create a method during execution to tell me, using NSLog, what my properties contain then that letter I added never shows up. I'm thinking I need to find a way to refresh a property during execution instead in the end. For example: Let's say you want to insert the letter F into a UIButton. Immediately after writing F into that UIButton, look to see that F hasn't isn't in there. But it will only show up after that particular execution sequence finishes. Any help would be great. As I'm an OO developer, I'm interested in improving my design skills. For Example, I had a hard time designing a currency converter. My questions to the SO: Is it by experience the design skills can be acquired? Will learning books/blog/material over internet etc help? Is it that one needs the domain knowledge of the application being developed? Knowing Design patterns, principles? Studying 'Code Complete' book ? Need to have Problem-solving skills? In short, given a problem, I just want to solve it in Object-oriented way??
