  • Procmail lock failures and errors while writing

    I'm setting up a mail server on an embedded linux system. When sending mail to a local user I get the following error from procmail: procmail: Lock failure on "/home/mail/ktos/.mailspool.lock" procmail: Error while writing to "/home/mail/ktos/.mailspool" procmail: Error while writing to "/var/spool/mail/ktos" From root@waben Wed Dec 15 10:00:40 2010 Folder: **Bounced** 0 procmail: Lock failure on "/root/.mailspool.lock" procmail: Error while writing to "/root/.mailspool" From MAILER-DAEMON Wed Dec 15 10:00:41 2010 Subject: Returned mail: see transcript for details Folder: /var/spool/mail/root 1732 And the mail goes to /var/spool/mail/root. This is my /etc/procmailrc: PATH=/usr/bin:/usr/local/bin MAILDIR=$HOME/.mailspool DEFAULT=$HOME/.mailspool LOGFILE=/dev/pts/0 SHELL=/bin/sh What could be the problem? I'm still pretty green with all the sendmail and procmail stuff as I'm primarily a developer.

  • Authlogic OpenID: Fetching E-Mail from Provider.

    This is a really weird problem: I have set up the authlogic_openid_selector_example app. When i register, the email id is not returned by the openid provider the first time. But if i delete the account and register again, the email id is returned. But this doesn't seem to be happening in the example hosted here: http://big-glow-mama.heroku.com/. How do i fix this problem? Has this got to do with caching? I have hosted my version of the app here: http://pingauthtest.heroku.com/ I guess the author of authlogic_openid_selector_example app (@holden) has forgotten to commit new changes. :) I looked at my development log and the first time the provider doesn't return the openid.ext1.value.ext0 which contains the email id. This is returned the second time only after having deleted the account first.   • Handling Incoming Mail to Multiple Recipients in PHP

    Alright, this may take a moment or two to explain: I'm working on creating an Email<SMS Bridge (like Teleflip). I have a few set parameters to work in: Dreamhost Webhosting PHP 5 (without PEAR) Postfix What I have right now, is a catch-all email address that forwards the email sent to a shell account. The shell account in turn forwards it to my PHP script. The PHP script reads it, strips a few Email Headers in an effort to make sure it sends properly, then forwards it to the number specified as the recipient. [email protected] of course sends an SMS to +1 (555) 123-4567. This works really well, as I am parsing the To field and grabbing just the email address it is sending to. However, what I realized that I did not account for is multiple recipients. For example, an email sent to both 5551234567 and 1235554567 (using the To line, the CC line, or any combination of those). The way email works of course, is I get two emails received, end up parsing each of them separately, and 5551234567 ends up getting the same message twice. What is the best way to handle this situation, so that each number specified in TO and CC can get one copy of the message. In addition, though I doubt its possible: Is there a way to handle BCC the same way?

    I'd like to use a C# program to poll a gmail account and automatically download new messages. I know you can use gmail as an outbound SMTP server, but is there any way to access new messages sent to the account? EDIT: Thanks for the rapid feedback....so I have two options, POP or IMAP. Which one should I use? And why? EDIT #2: Looks like IMAP allows me to not have to poll. Looks like the way to go.

    Hi, I have ELMAH set up for a webapp, logging exceptions to a SQL server. I wish to have ELMAH send me an email too, but only when a specific exception is thrown (ie. MySpecialException). ELMAH must still log all exceptions to SQL server. I know you can do it programmatically in global.asax, but I'd prefer to use web.config. So, how do I restrict ELMAH error mails to filter out everything but a specific exception type, using web.config?

    If I were to build a newsletter emailing system, I will need to be able to generate reports on how many emails bounced, flagged as spam, unsubscribed, read vs. unread, click through rates etc.... So how do you keep track of user activity after the email has been sent? Am I right in assuming that you CAN NOT embed javascript code into emails to monitor user activity? How else do I gather data for my reports?

Is there any recommended approach - or are there even existing algorithms for that problem? Should I try approximate regular expressions or more statistical stuff based on number of punctation marks, length and so on?

  • Removing google mail markers with jquery after getting them from xml

    Hi there, I'm trying to create a page that contains a google map. The map is filled with markers from an xml file. I just can't figure out how to remove "old" markers, that don't match the latest user input. At the moment my js stops after the very first xml item. The clearList.push(marker); is supposed to put the generated marker away for later usage. When the user hits the search button I want all markers to be gone and use clearMarkers();.     Hi I have a mail server on windows 2003 ( MailEnable) I setup mail server to authonticate users before sending mail. (This mail server requires authentication when attempting to send to a non-local e-mail address) but from yesterday , without change any setting I got many Message Delivery Delay from mail server for email address that I never try to sending email: I afraid that I someone try to sending Spam from my mail server,How can I check this possiblity ? and fix the problem. Thanks MailEnable: Message delivery has been delayed. Message is waiting at *.info for delivery to mailin-03.mx.aol.com. The message will be retried for another 29 hours. Reason: Mail Server for aol.com could not accept your email at this time. MailEnable will keep trying to deliver this message and will notify you of any progress. The remote mail server returned the error: 421-: (DNS:NR)
