  • Free mp3 merge for Mac OSX

    Hi, I need to merge several mp3 tracks into one, I use MAC OS X 10.5. I want to convert all my Harry Potter CDs to my iPod, but not every minute a new track (as it is on the CDs) but chapterwise. Where can I get a free software? Help, please! (I've already tried: Jfuse, but after I had merged a few chapters it said I had to buy it; emicsoft VOB Converter for MAC; File Stitcher; but since they all were shareware, for free they would only let me merge 2 files at once (that would take me days) or half of each file which is useless of course; iTunes advanced settings ("join CD tracks") when importing the CDs, but it would let me only join the complete CD, not chapters...) (Sorry for my English, hope you could understand what I wanted to say)

  • OSX problem starting FTP from preferences

    When I try to enable the FTP service in the preferences (File Sharing-Options-Share Files and Folders Using FTP) the check box enables and then disables again. The console is giving me the message : 16/04/2010 12:14:20 com.apple.coreservicesd[51] sh: launchctl: command not found This indicates to me that it can't find the launchctl executable launchctl is present in the folder /bin /bin is set in the PATH variable for sh and bash shells and also in the ~/.MacOS/environment.plist How can I fix this so that my preferences can find this so that I can enable the FTP service.

  • OSX Samba Server

    Hello I have a MacPro that I'm using as a local file server. I mapped a directory on the secondary hard drive of the MacPro as a drive on our local Windows box. It worked fine for about a week and then suddenly stopped working. The windows computer gives the error that it's an invalid username and password however I have checked and double checked to ensure that the user and pass are correct to no avail. Anyone have any ideas on what's going on here?

  • Running Mac OSX 10.6 my users home directory is wrong

    Somehow my home directory on my mac machine has been changed and I'm not sure how to go about changing it back, I'm more of a linux guy and mac has some other mechanism for storing that information. Basically when I log into the machine normally than start a terminal window. I start in the /Users/erik_miller directory, which is my home directory, but when I run some this like cd ~ The machine tries to change to /Users/erik_miller. Yes, the same path with a period on the end. I can change my $HOME environment variable for the session, but the next time I start the machine it reverts. So, I think if I can find where that information is stored I can just change it there and hopefully all will be well.

  • Installing ImageMagick on Mac OSX 10.6

    I just got a new Mac and am trying to setup a local Perl development environment. I'm using MAMP but also need the ImageMagick perl module installed in order to do some of the photo processing our scripts require. I tried installing ImageMagick manually but ran into some issues and after reading online a lot of people reported having issues going this route. The general consensus was to install it using MacPorts instead so I went ahead and installed MacPorts. Unfortunately, MacPorts can't seem to install it successfully either.   • Improper output in SSH session on OSX using FreeSSHd on Windows with cygwin bash/sh shell

    I am testing out running an SSH server on a local Windows VM. I have installed FreeSSHd and set the command shell to "c:\cygwin\bin\sh --login -i" (bash as well) with "Use new console engine" unchecked.   • Join ActiveDirectory (Win 2k8R2) to OpenDirectory(Snow Leopard)

    The vast majority of questions and so on regarding the interoperability of Active and Open directories involves getting Mac clients to see an AD and auth against it. What we'd like to do is get a Windows 7 workstation to auth completely against Open Directory. We tried setting it up as an NT4 type PDC, and that doesn't work satisfactorily. We tried using pGina and the LDAP backend, which allows Authentication, but has no support for Authorization, and as a result, if we mount an NFS Share, the user has the rights to do anything they damn well please. Not ideal for security (Totally bloody unacceptable, actually). We tried using a Samba server (newer version than on the Open Directory Server) as an intermediate, so that it knows about the LDAP server on the OD Server, but uses Samba 4 instead of v3. That didn't work either. We could login, but couldn't mount, and if we did, we had the same rights as with pGina. If we right-click the mounted drive in Windows, and have a look at NFS UID, it returns -2, not the correct (mapped) UID. So the final plan I've got is to use an Active Directory, inside a Windows 2008R2 Virtual Machine. What I want to achieve is to have the Active Directory sync it's user data from OpenDirectory (read-only would be fine). That way, we'd have the ability to connect Windows 7 clients to a "virtual domain" which would actually just grab information from OD's LDAP. All the information I've found is about how to go the other way. Does anyone know how we can do this?

    Hi, The server was upgraded from 10.5 from 10.6, during the upgrade the Reverse Zones were lost so I tried to recreate these but found that it's best to delete all zones, definitions and start again. So I've started again and Reverse Zones are appearing but I'm still having issues.   • Setting up a localhost mail server on Mac OSX

    I asked this over on stackoverflow. They pointed me here. I would love to be able to test php webapps that require emailing registration info etc. on my mac. I downloaded a version of CommuniGate Pro. I need to mail either to an account inside or outside (whichever is best) of the localhost. Again this would be used for testing purposes to verify and debug my code prior to uploading to a hosting service. Any ideas, help and/or examples would be very much appreciated. If it would be easier I could go over to Windows XP. That would just mean setting up wamp and transfering my files over from the mac side via dropbox. I got the local mailserver to work so I can send emails between accounts. However, I cannot seem to get the php code to work. I know that I am missing something. I see where this has been asked before. I want to add that I am using xampp. In Mac OS 10.6.8.   • Cannot get mod_rewrite to work on Mac OSX Mountain Lion

    I have tried everything I can think of and it still doesn't work. I am trying to get the example code from Larry Ullman's Advanced PHP book to work. His instructions were a bit lacking so I had to do some research.   • Mac OSX server command equivalent for dhclient?

    Is there an MacOS command that makes a dhcp request, and renews the old lease, drops it for a new one, or usefully reports errors or lack of response from a dhcp server? This would both help fix networking on the machine after problems on the network without rebooting and would also be useful to diagnose wider networking problems from a mac. I can not find any command equivalent of dhclient though obviously some component must be serving this purpose. The question is, is that component exposed to a command line interface? I am biased to the command line for these features and may have overlooked settings panels or tools that might solve it using a gui interface. I believe this question is at the heart of this other question: Is there an equivalent command for 'init.d/networking restart' in OS X

  • OSX Server 10.5 - Cannot log into Workgroup Manager - diradmin password is correct

    I've got a setup where I am trying to rescue a broken AD. We can no longer authenticate on the Workgroup manager, with passwords being rejected all the time - even though it is correct. I can connect using the workgroup manager on another server and I get the user list as expected, but when I click the padlock to make changes, I get the following screen: The problem is, I know the password is correct, I just used it to connect to the server in the first place. I can log into the server using the local admin, and services such as AFP, VPN and SMB continue to serve users. I have about 300 or so users on this server, and I would very much like to avoid having a rebuild. As there is much configuration that has been done without my knowledge (it's a client machine), I'd like to attempt to fix it, and then create another server and migration OD off this broken machine, then decommission it "gently". Ultimately this would mean no disruption of services. What I'd like it some tips as to how to fix the problem with authenticating to make changes in the work group manager, and maintenance on open directory in general. Thanks

    I've recently purchased an Apple iMac. Unfortunately, enabling Apache and PHP has thrown up some problems. I enabled Mac's built-in Web Sharing through System Preferences, at which point I got an output and could add HTML files to my user directory. However, PHP files were being displayed rather than interpreted. I then discovered this is because PHP isn't enabled by default on Mac's Apache set-up.     About an year ago I installed gnome fonts on my MacBook Pro and I use them for Terminal.app Today I was using Terminal with three windows open and suddenly the app has quit (I don't know if I accidentally pressed command+q) but when I reopened the application fonts looks strange. I had a screenshot taken before the accident I did the same screenshot now and here's the result I don't know what's happened, I tried to reinstall the fonts, restarted the computer, but with no luck. One more thing, I use an external screen, I read some posts regarding font issues with external monitors but I had this monitor before this accident and everything worked fine until now. Please help me to solve this because my eyes were used to that font and now it looks weird to see this different font

    I am not sure if this is a bug in mail.app, or a configuration I just can't find. It might also be a strange sideffect of GPGmail. Mail.app correctly displays all e-mails on my IMAP server, except for the e-mails in my "Sent Messages" folder. In the sent messages folder it messes up åäö, in typical quoted-printable with wrong char-set fashion. They become ‰ˆ.   • Completely remove Postgres on Mac OSX Lion

    I'm trying to get postgis running on my machine. Running brew install postgis seems to have installed postgres 9.2.1 on to my machine. I would like to remove my previous version 9.1.2 to keep my environment clean. Running brew uninstall postgres removes 9.2.1. What's the best way to do this?   • Determining what files are considered open in Mac OSX

    Hi all; Apologies if this has been discussed previously... I did a stack overflow and google search but probably didn't use the right keywords. Anyway, is there an easy way to determine what files are open on Mac OS X? I had an issue in which I could not unmount a firewire HD until I closed all running apps. Turns out keychain access had a reference to a file on the HD, but it begged the question: how to find out what files are open and what app (or apps) has the file open? Thanks in advance and again apologies if this has been covered previously. Doug.

  • OpenSwan (IPSEC) on Fedora 13 with Snow Leopard as a client

    I recently installed OpenSwan on my Fedora 13 machine. I want to use it to connect with Mac OS X with L2TP over IPSEC, unfortunately I am already stuck on the IPSEC-negotation part. My server is running behind a NATted firewall so my external IP differs from the server's IP. The server has a fixed IP on the network and the same is almost always valid for the clients (they are usually behind a NATted firewall). I installed OpenSwan on Fedora 13 and have following configuration: config setup protostack=netkey nat_traversal=yes virtual_private=%v4:10.0.0.0/8,%v4:192.168.0.0/16,%v4:172.16.0.0/12 oe=off nhelpers=0 conn L2TP-PSK-NAT rightsubnet=vhost:%priv also=L2TP-PSK-noNAT conn L2TP-PSK-noNAT authby=secret pfs=no auto=add keyingtries=3 rekey=no ikelifetime=8h keylife=1h type=transport left=my.servers.external.ip leftprotoport=17/1701 right=%any rightprotoport=17/0 IPSEC starts fine and listens to UDP 500 and 4500. These two ports are opened in the firewall and are forwarded fine to the server. In my /etc/ipsec.secrets file I have my.servers.external.ip %any: "LongAndDifficultPassword" And finally in my sysctl.conf (the redirect-entries are there because OpenSwan was strongly protesting about send/accept_redirects being active) I have net.ipv4.ip_forward = 1 net.ipv4.conf.all.send_redirects = 0 net.ipv4.conf.all.accept_redirects = 0 Running "ipsec verify" gives me "all greens" (except Opportunistic Encryption Support, which is DISABLED), however, when trying to connect my Mac gives me following in the logs: Nov 1 19:30:28 macbook pppd[4904]: pppd 2.4.2 (Apple version 412.3) started by user, uid 1011 Nov 1 19:30:28 macbook pppd[4904]: L2TP connecting to server 'my.servers.ip.address' (my.servers.ip.address)...   • Strange Apache Webdav situation (OSX Will connect, Ubuntu will not)

    So basically my situation is that I have an Apache 2.2 webserver running on Linux on another box, and I have it configured to serve up webdav. Now here's the weird part, I can access the server just fine on my Mac using the "Connect to Server" dialog (even moved like 5GB of files over the connection). On my Ubuntu desktop cadaver will connect as well and allow me to browse. However when I try to use Xmarks (BYOS Edition) or the GNOME "Connect to Server" dialog, it gives me a 403 Forbidden error. My server does digest authentication if that makes any difference.
