  • Assembla is no longer free, is there a good alternative?!

    - by pabloide86
http://blog.assembla.com/assemblablog/tabid/12618/bid/6986/Release-2-0-restricting-free-plans-giving-back-with-features-and-pric I'm very disappointed about this... I use Assembla for my personal projects(commercial) and now I have to move everything to another place! There are some questions about different free hosting... I extracted some of the sites that offers free hosting for projects: http://www.svnhostingcomparison.com/ http://www.codespaces.com/ If you know about others like assembla please post it! Cheers from Argentina!

  • subversioning ipad app project

    - by MistakesRInevitable
Hi All, I am currently looking at setting up an Ipad app project into subversion. Ive had a lot of experience with windows based development and .net. With this we have just created a repository in a network folder (by just right clicking - TortiseSVN - create repository) , than all we have done is our developers have checked out from this directory. How do we go about doing this in xcode. I know subversion is integrated with xcode and I am pretty confident of doing everything (from tutorials) except for the creation of the repository. Just wondering how we go about creating a repository in a folder based up on network folder? Thanks in advance

  • Dealing with large directories in a checkout

    - by Eric
I am trying to come up with a version control process for a web app that I work on. Currently, my major stumbling blocks are two directories that are huge (both over 4GB). Only a few people need to work on things within the huge directories; most people don't even need to see what's in them. Our directory structure looks something like: / --file.aspx --anotherFile.aspx --/coolThings ----coolThing.aspx --/bigFolder ----someHugeMovie.mov ----someHugeSound.mp3 --/anotherBigFolder ----... I'm sure you get the picture. It's hard to justify a checkout that has to pull down 8GB of data that's likely useless to a developer. I know, it's only once, but even once could be really frustrating for someone (and will make it harder for me to convince everyone to use source control). (Plus, clean checkouts will be painfully slow.) These folders do have to be available in the web application. What can I do? I've thought about separate repositories for the big folders. That way, you only download if you need it; but then how do I manage checking these out onto our development server? I've also thought about not trying to version control those folders: just update them directly on the web server... but I am not enamored of this idea. Is there some magic way to simply exclude directories from a checkout that I haven't found? (Pretty sure there is not.) Of course, there's always the option to just give up, bite the bullet, and accept downloading 8 useless GB. What say you? Have you encountered this problem before? How did you solve it?

  • Multiple branch merges, stick with Subversion or move to Mercurial or Git?

    - by casualcoder
Given a situation where there are three branches, A, B and C, where A is merged to both B and C on a regular basis. From time to time B is merged to C. With Subversion, B apparently must be removed and recreated after every merge to C. This raises groans from colleagues, but would any alternative do any better? It would seem to me that Mercurial would not. Perhaps Git? Does anyone else run into this problem?

  • My company is a Rackspace Cloud client (provided to us for free) and I'm trying to find some way to set up version control

    - by Nick S.
As the title says, my (small) business is provided a free Rackspace Cloud client account. We receive a decent amount of traffic but I haven't been able to put together a business case to move to our own server yet. However, we are developing some complex apps and I'm frustrated with not having the ability to even ssh into the remote server. Ultimately, I'd like to set up some sort of version control (at this point, I'll take anything, git or otherwise). I have control over databases, can FTP, set up cron jobs, and perform a few other basic functions. I can't think of any way to set up git or something similar without ssh access. A thought went through my mind that maybe some sort of PHP version control exists that I might be able to set up, but I haven't had any luck finding it yet. Do you guys have any ideas, thoughts, or advice?

  • Where does respository resides in after converting CVS repository into SVN using cvs2svn ?

    - by thetna
I am using cvs2svn for converting already existing CVS repository into svn repository. While doing it using command line , it makes all the passes and creates a repository in the SVN. But i am not able to find all the files in the particular directory. Where does that repository resides? I used following command to convert the CVS to SVN repository. cvs2svn -s /home/user/Subversion/repos /home/usr/cvsrepo

  • What's the difference between SVN and Git for merging?

    - by Alexander
As the title suggests, I am curious as to why so many people tout Git as a superior alternative to branching/merging over SVN. I am primarily curious because SVN merging sucks and I would like an alternative solution. How does Git handle merging better? How does it work? For example, in SVN, if I have the following line: Hello World! Then user1 changes it to: Hello World!1 then user2 changes it to: Hello World!12 Then user2 commits, then user1 commits, SVN would give you a conflict. Can Git resolve something simple as this?

  • Authenticating Apache HTTPd against multiple LDAP servers with expired accounts

    - by Brian Bassett
We're using mod_authnz_ldap and mod_authn_alias in Apache 2.2.9 (as shipped in Debian 5.0, 2.2.9-10+lenny7) to authenticate against multiple Active Directory domains for hosting a Subversion repository. Our current configuration is: # Turn up logging LogLevel debug # Define authentication providers <AuthnProviderAlias ldap alpha> AuthLDAPBindDN "CN=Subversion,OU=Service Accounts,O=Alpha" AuthLDAPBindPassword [[REDACTED]] AuthLDAPURL ldap://dc01.alpha:3268/?sAMAccountName?sub? </AuthnProviderAlias> <AuthnProviderAlias ldap beta> AuthLDAPBindDN "CN=LDAPAuth,OU=Service Accounts,O=Beta" AuthLDAPBindPassword [[REDACTED]] AuthLDAPURL ldap://ldap.beta:3268/?sAMAccountName?sub? </AuthnProviderAlias> # Subversion Repository <Location /svn> DAV svn SVNPath /opt/svn/repo AuthName "Subversion" AuthType Basic AuthBasicProvider alpha beta AuthzLDAPAuthoritative off AuthzSVNAccessFile /opt/svn/authz require valid-user </Location> We're encountering issues with users that have accounts in both Alpha and Beta, especially when their accounts in Alpha are expired (but still present; company policy is that the accounts live on for at a minimum of 1 year). For example, when the user x (which has en expired account in Alpha, and a valid account in Beta), the Apache error log reports the following: [Tue May 11 13:42:07 2010] [debug] mod_authnz_ldap.c(377): [client 10.1.1.104] [14817] auth_ldap authenticate: using URL ldap://dc01.alpha:3268/?sAMAccountName?sub? • How Do I Restrict Repository Access via WebSVN?

    - by kaybenleroll
I have multiple subversion repositories which are served up through Apache 2.2 and WebDAV. They are all located in a central place, and I used this debian-administration.org article as the basis (I dropped the use of the database authentication for a simple htpasswd file though). Since then, I have also started using WebSVN. My issue is that not all users on the system should be able to access the different repositories, and the default setup of WebSVN is to allow anyone who can authenticate. According to the WebSVN documentation, the best way around this is to use subversion's path access system, so I looked to create this, using the AuthzSVNAccessFile directive. When I do this though, I keep getting "403 Forbidden" messages. My files look like the following: I have default policy settings in a file: <Location /svn/> DAV svn SVNParentPath /var/lib/svn/repository Order deny, allow Deny from all </Location> Each repository gets a policy file like below: <Location /svn/sysadmin/> Include /var/lib/svn/conf/default_auth.conf AuthName "Repository for sysadmin" require user joebloggs jimsmith mickmurphy </Location> The default_auth.conf file contains this: SVNParentPath /var/lib/svn/repository AuthType basic AuthUserFile /var/lib/svn/conf/.dav_svn.passwd AuthzSVNAccessFile /var/lib/svn/conf/svnaccess.conf I am not fully sure why I need the second SVNParentPath in default_auth.conf, but I just added that today as I was getting error messages as a result of adding the AuthzSVNAccessFile directive. With a totally permissive access file [/] joebloggs = rw the system worked fine (and was essentially unchanged), but as I soon as I start trying to add any kind of restrictions such as [sysadmin:/] joebloggs = rw instead, I get the 'Permission denied' errors again. The log file entries are: [Thu May 28 10:40:17 2009] [error] [client 89.100.219.180] Access denied: 'joebloggs' GET websvn:/ [Thu May 28 10:40:20 2009] [error] [client 89.100.219.180] Access denied: 'joebloggs' GET svn:/sysadmin What do I need to do to get this to work? Have configured apache wrong, or is my understanding of the svnaccess.conf file incorrect? If I am going about this the wrong way, I have no particular attachment to my overall approach, so feel free to offer alternatives as well. UPDATE (20090528-1600): I attempted to implement this answer, but I still cannot get it to work properly. I know most of the configuration is correct, as I have added [/] joebloggs = rw at the start and 'joebloggs' then has all the correct access. When I try to go repository-specific though, doing something like [/] joebloggs = rw [sysadmin:/] mickmurphy = rw then I got a permission denied error for mickmurphy (joebloggs still works), with an error similar to what I already had previously [Thu May 28 10:40:20 2009] [error] [client 89.100.219.180] Access denied: 'mickmurphy' GET svn:/sysadmin Also, I forgot to explain previously that all my repositories are underneath /var/lib/svn/repository UPDATE (20090529-1245): Still no luck getting this to work, but all the signs seem to be pointing to the issue being with path-access control in subversion not working properly. My assumption is that I have not conf

  • Asynchronous background processes in Python?

    - by Geuis
I have been using this as a reference, but not able to accomplish exactly what I need: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/89228/how-to-call-external-command-in-python/92395#92395 I also was reading this: http://www.python.org/dev/peps/pep-3145/ For our project, we have 5 svn checkouts that need to update before we can deploy our application. In my dev environment, where speedy deployments are a bit more important for productivity than a production deployment, I have been working on speeding up the process. I have a bash script that has been working decently but has some limitations. I fire up multiple 'svn updates' with the following bash command: (svn update /repo1) & (svn update /repo2) & (svn update /repo3) & These all run in parallel and it works pretty well. I also use this pattern in the rest of the build script for firing off each ant build, then moving the wars to Tomcat. However, I have no control over stopping deployment if one of the updates or a build fails. I'm re-writing my bash script with Python so I have more control over branches and the deployment process. I am using subprocess.call() to fire off the 'svn update /repo' commands, but each one is acting sequentially. I try '(svn update /repo) &' and those all fire off, but the result code returns immediately. So I have no way to determine if a particular command fails or not in the asynchronous mode. import subprocess subprocess.call( 'svn update /repo1', shell=True ) subprocess.call( 'svn update /repo2', shell=True ) subprocess.call( 'svn update /repo3', shell=True ) I'd love to find a way to have Python fire off each Unix command, and if any of the calls fails at any time the entire script stops.

  • Team Foundation Server vs. SVN and other source control systems

    - by micha12
We are currently looking for a version control system to use in our projects. Up to now we have been using VSS, but nowadays more powerful source control systems exists like TFS, SVN, etc. We are planning to migrate our projects to Visual Studio 2010, so the first idea coming to mind is to start using TFS 2010. I have never worked with SVN and other version control systems. My question is: how good is TFS compared to other source control systems? Is it a good idea using it, or should we rather use SVN (or any other system)? Thank you.

  • Which repository access method is used to create a new “working copy”, file:/// or svn:// in same m

    - by Banani
Hi!, I have setup svnserve server (1.6.5,plain, without apache) on Fedora. The users, who has accounts in same machine want to checkout a working copy. I have read svnbook and other sites and found file:/// access method is being used to checkout as svn checkout file:///var/svn/repos/myproject/trunk myproject ( ref:svnbook) I am little confused! As svnbook also says "Clients contact an svnserve server by using URLs that begin with the svn://" So, my question is, which method user will use to create their working copy? Thankyou. Banani

  • Problems with LDAP auth in Apache, works only for one group

    - by tore-
Hi, I'm currently publishing some subversions repos within Apache: <Location /dev/> DAV svn SVNPath /opt/svn/repos/dev/ AuthType Basic AuthName "Subversion repo authentication" AuthBasicProvider ldap AuthzLDAPAuthoritative On AuthLDAPBindDN "CN=readonlyaccount,OU=Objects,DC=invalid,DC=now" AuthLDAPBindPassword readonlyaccountspassword AuthLDAPURL "ldap://invalid.domain:389/OU=Objects,DC=invalid,DC=domain?sAMAccountName?sub?(objectClass=*)" Require ldap-group cn=dev,ou=SVN,DC=invalid,DC=domain </Location> This setup works great, but now we want to give an LDAP group read only access to our repo, then my apache config looks like this: <Location /dev/> DAV svn SVNPath /opt/svn/repos/dev/ AuthType Basic AuthName "Subversion repo authentication" AuthBasicProvider ldap AuthzLDAPAuthoritative On AuthLDAPBindDN "CN=readonlyaccount,OU=Objects,DC=invalid,DC=now" AuthLDAPBindPassword readonlyaccountspassword AuthLDAPURL "ldap://invalid.domain:389/OU=Objects,DC=invalid,DC=domain?sAMAccountName?sub?(objectClass=*)" <Limit OPTIONS PROPFIND GET REPORT> Require ldap-group cn=dev-ro,ou=SVN,dc=invalid,dc=domain </Limit> <LimitExcept OPTIONS PROPFIND GET REPORT> Require ldap-group cn=dev-rw,ou=SVN,dc=invalid,dc=domain </LimitExcept> </Location> All of my user accounts is under: OU=Objects,DC=invalid,DC=domain All groups related to subversion is under: ou=SVN,dc=invalid,dc=domain The problem after modification, only users in the dev-ro LDAP group is able to authenticate. I know that authentication with LDAP works, since my apache logs show my usernames: 10.1.1.126 - tore [...] "GET /dev/ HTTP/1.1" 200 339 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (...)" 10.1.1.126 - - [...] "GET /dev/ HTTP/1.1" 401 501 "-" "Mozilla/4.0 (...)" 10.1.1.126 - readonly [...] "GET /dev/ HTTP/1.1" 401 501 "-" "Mozilla/4.0 (...) line = user in group dev-rw, 2. line is unauthenticated user, 3. line is unauthenticated user, authenticated as a user in group dev-ro So I think I've messed up my apache config. • ports only available from the outside network

    - by ChrisJ
This is a counter-intuitive problem for me. I have a new Win 2003 server on a static IP address w.x.y.z. Tomcat 7, PostgreSQL 9.1, and Subversion are installed. All of it appears to be working fine from the server itself. We can also access the Tomcat manager, web applications, and run "svn ls svn://w.x.y.z/" from outside our network. However, when I try from another machine in the office, phpPgAdmin and svn cannot establish connections with the server. http://w.x.y.z:5432/phppgadmin cannot connect. The svn command from above returns: svn: E730061: Unable to connect to a repository at URL 'svn://w.x.y.z/' svn: E730061: Can't connect to host 'w.x.y.z': No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it. Tomcat manager and the other web apps we have deployed work fine. Netstat -a from the server shows this: Proto Local Address Foreign Address State TCP SERVERNAME:3690 SERVERNAME:0 LISTENING TCP SERVERNAME:5432 SERVERNAME:0 LISTENING Windows Firewall was off, but just in case I also tried to enable it and open ports 3690 (svn) and 5432 (postgres). No change. I don't have access to the router/switch because it just doesn't work that way in Port-au-Prince and our sysadmin is on R&R. Is there anything that might be causing the problem from the server side?
