  I have a HP laptop. I upgraded to windows 7 ultimate from home basic. Now I'm trying to upgrade to Windows 8 but when I do I get a message saying not enough system partition. So I opened the disk manager and increased the size of system reserved partition and it was of no use I still got the same error. Then I unfortunately deleted the 100MB system reserved partition by right clicking it and clicking format in the disk manager! Now I am not able to boot any CD's from the startup including OS and recovery CD. Whenever I press esc it always goes to the login screen and it doesn't say anything about the boot from CD option. Now I could not even use my recovery CD. I have 3 questions: Is it necesseary to create a system reserved partition if so how to create it? How to use my recovery cd How to install win 8

• Windows Java-based apps not working

  After updating the Java JRE to 7u25, many Java-based applications not works as usual, the I upgrade Java to 7u45, and still the apps not working. Minecraft start screen not showing, have to press TAB key to select the Run button and press ENTER to run the game. Netbeans IDE it's running, but none it's showing on the screen. Eclipse and JDownloader are working fine. I cannot run the Java Control Panel, it's only shows the Java icon at the taskbar. • How to fix 0x800CCC0E Error Codes?

  I recently started receiving the above-mentioned error which is apparently a Winsock error message it is preventing me from checking my e-mail with Gmail, although there is no problem with my e-mail was ATT e-mail and MSN mail. I found a number of supposed fixit programs which found a great number of errors in my registry (although Wyse and Glary did not find anything wrong with my registry?) And offered to fix them for a fee. I would much rather not pay! :-) Does anybody here know what is causing this error and how to fix it? oh – I am using Windows 7/ultimate and Live Mail as my e-mail reader. Thank you. Ross

• Is it possible to use a dual processor computer as your desktop?

  I've seen some people suggesting to get a motherboard that supports two processors and stick two Xeon Nehalem processors in it. Could you use this system as a desktop PC or is this useless or even impossible? It's more hypothetical question if Windows 7 would support such a set-up. I know you could just take an i7, but wouldn't two of those processors be a whole lot more awesome? Like the previous generation Skulltrails? The idea would be to have a motherboard like this ASUS Z8NA-D6C Dual LGA 1366 Intel 5500 ATX and two Xeons (since I don't think i7's could be used) Intel Xeon E5405 Harpertown to run something like Windows 7 Ultimate.

  I just switched to windows 7 from Vista and a lot of programs/games don't work anymore. The issue is that some games need a specific .NET framework version. when I try to install that it says that I should turn on/off windows features. I go to that and I find .NET framework in the list and tried both checking it and unchecking it. Both don't work and I still get the message that I need to turn on/off that thing. Any suggestion please? I have Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit.

• RAID 1 Mirror Error with Two Western Digital 500GB Drives

  I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit installed on a Western Digital 500GB drive (WD5000BEVT-22ZAT0) that was partitioned automatically by Windows as 100MB System Reserved and 465.66GB drive C. There is also an unallocated second Western Digital 500GB drive (WD5000BPVT-22HXZT1) that I want to use for RAID 1 to mirror the first drive but I get an error message stating “ALL DISKS HOLDING EXTENTS FOR A GIVEN VOLUME MUST HAVE THE SAME SECTOR SIZE, AND THE SECTOR SIZE MUST BE VALID.” I uninstalled Windows patch KB-982018 but I still get the same error message. Could you please let me know how to resolve this? Thanks.

• Installation fails after period of time

  I'm running Windows 7 64 bit, Ultimate. I'm running into a problem where, if my computer is on long enough, I am unable to install any software. For example, if I reboot and try to install something, for the most part, it will succeed. if I try and install something after a few hours/days, it will always fail. Sometimes stating that "a previous install failed..." or "an install is already taking place..." even though there is nothing being installed. This also seems to be making my Windows updates fail at a pretty regular rate. Any ideas?

• asus 1215p cannot get the 1366 x 768 resolution

  Hi everyone, im a little bit stuck. I had a windows 7 starter installed on this netbook, it wasn't that great so I installed windows 7 ultimate. everything is OK apart from the screen resolution. it doesn't let me choose the optimal 1366x768 resolution and defaults to lower quality, in fact it doesn't even list it. I have tried drivers from Microsoft, Asus and Intel and still no joy. Any suggestions? It has the Intel 3150 Graphics Media Accelerator Much appreciated :)

• PPTP: Linux clients unreachable

  I have setup a PPTP server on a CentOS 6 box. Several clients (Windows and Linux) connect to this server. All clients use the same subnet. All clients (Win or Lin) can surf the Internet using the VPN successfully. Windows clients can ping any other Windows client (XP/Vista/7) connected to VPN. Linux clients (KVPNC) can ping any Windows client (XP/Vista/7) connected to VPN. So far so good. But there's this weird problem and I've been trying to figure it out with no luck: No client can ping (reach) a Linux client (successfully) connected to VPN. And yes, the firewall is completely disabled. I'd really appreciate any hint/idea. TIA, EDIT: The ultimate goal of this is to share services across the VPN, like accessing a HTTPD running on a Linux box from a Windows client.

  I've got a custom-built PC with these specs: Fractal Design Define R3 ASUS P8Z77-V motherboard Intel Core i7-2700k with Thermalright HR-02 Macho Cooler NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 with Arctic Cooling Accelero Twin Turbo II Cooler Crucial M4 128 GB SSD 1 TB Hitachi HDD G.SKILL Ares Series 2x8 GB RAM (x2) SeaSonic 520W PSU Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 (x64) NVIDIA driver version 301.42 Upon building the PC, I overclocked the CPU (but never the GPU), and there were no problems for 1-2 months. Then I started getting crashes with this error when doing anything that's computationally or graphically intensive: I un-overclocked the CPU, but that hasn't fixed anything. This is what the inside of my case looks like: I'd appreciate any guidance on resolving this problem. I did get some of the thermal paste on the graphics card when installing the aftermarket cooler, but there were no issues for a month or two. Update I did a clean install and the issue persisted - looks like it's a hardware issue. I will try removing/cleaning/reseating all the parts.

• Windows 7: Screen will power off, or blank and lock, but not both.

  For some reason, my Windows 7 (Ultimate, 64bit) laptop will not power off the display and keep it off if I have the screen saver and/or the timed auto-lock enabled. Either the display blanks (and locks) but never powers off, or it powers off for less then a minute, then the back light visibly powers back on and stays on, even though the screen remains blanked until I touch a key or the trackpad. I've tried varying the screen power down time to greater than, less than, and exactly equal to the blank screen/lock time, with no success. Turning the screen saver and the timed auto-lock off does allow the timed display power down in the power settings to work properly. (Note that I am not talking about system sleep or hibernate. I'm talking about when the machine remains running, but only the display should power down.)

• Can't run monitor at native 1080p resolution on Windows 7

  I have a 24" ViewSonic VX2453 monitor that supports 1920x1080p, connected using HDMI. However at that resolution, the desktop goes off the screen. Using the Nvidia control panel, I have to set it to a custom resolution of 1804x1014 to display correctly. The monitor has its drivers properly installed (the correct model name shows up in control panel after installing the drivers), and I'm running 64 bit Win7 Ultimate. I have a GeForce 560 Ti card, if that helps. Why does this happen?

  Why does Windows 7 x64 work faster than an x86 edition on my PC even though I mostly use x86 things in it? What's wrong with me, and what am I missing? Majority of the things I use is x86 (e.g. DAWs, games, media players). A considerable amount of them, however, are x64 (although their x86 counterparts work just fine). I've tried using the same things on the same system but always ended up finding Windows 7 x64 working slightly faster than x86. I'm very observant. I even notice the tiniest window animations. System: Windows 7 Ultimate x64 CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 @ 2.93 GHz RAM: 2 GB x 2 = 4 GB DDR2 @ 332 MHz Motherboard: Intel D945GCNL Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 4350 @ 1 GB Dedicated Audio: M-Audio FastTrack Pro HDD: Samsung HD753LJ 733 GB & Samsung HD160JJ 156 GB As you can see, my system is old.

  I have a Acer Aspire TimelineX 4830TG-6808 laptop running windows 7 Ultimate with one VGA port and one HDMI port. It has one Intel HD Graphics family card and one NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M. Right now I have one monitor running via the VGA port, and also the basic laptop monitor. When I look at the monitor setup, I see one unused video card available. Can I have another monitor via the HDMI port? If I cannot run three monitors, is there some way I could make a large "single" desktop that extends over two monitors? For the sake of celerity, maybe something like having a virtual machine window that extends over two monitors. Could this maybe come from third party software?

  I am running a FOXCONN AM2+ M61PMV with an AMD Athlon II X2 240 windows 7 ultimate 64 bit From startup I have hit the del key and the options for enabling the Hardware virtulization are not there. I have checked the Microsoft tool that says I can run virtual and i have checked SecurAble, that says yes. But I have an open case w/microsoft (they've been trying for a week [7 tech support people later]) and they're saying that i need to ensure that the hardware is enabled. I added delimiters part and when I tried running the query from phpmyadmin, Firefox went into not responding state. After that I started Internet Explorer and tried opening my pages which use the same database, it worked fine. However, I tried opening phpmyadmin and IE went into not responding state as well. I restarted both servers. Later restarted PC. Tried again but its same behavior. So whats wrong with this tiny little code ? Am I missing something which might be causing infinite loop ? Thanks

• Weird files in User folder

  In my user folder (C:/Users/myAccount/) theres a set of interesting hidden files that I've never seen before (right now it's a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate). These are: NTUSER.DAT, ntuser.dat.LOG1, ntuser.dat.LOG2, and NTUSER.DAT(whole chain of numbers and letters).TM.bif, NTUSER.DAT(whole chain of numbers and letters).TMContaineretcetc.regtrans-ms, and another similar one. When I try to delete them, it says the system is using them. I've never seen these files before. Are they ok to delete? Or should I leave them in my home folder? I always keep "Show hidden files" as well as "Show System files" checked, since I prefer being able to see all the files on my computer. If I shouldn't delete them, is there at least a way to tidy them up a bit? Thanks.

  I need to boot into safe mode in Windows 8 Ultimate to un-install Avira as this is not supported in windows 8. The problem is I have also installed Ubuntu 12.04 and from the grub 2, I do not get the option to boot into windows 8 safe mode. I do not have the CD/DVD of windows 8. Also, "pressing f8 as soon as you press enter after selecting win8 kernel " or for that matter any other key (Shift+F8, F2, F12 ) did not help. Is there a way to get an option in the boot menu to boot into Windows 8 safe mode? Found some similar posts, but could not find any relevant answers. Thanks

• Question regarding IPv6 - Solicited-Node Address with a Link local scope

  Situation: A small LAN comprising a Windows 7 Ultimate x54 PC, 2 XP Pro x86 PCs and an Asus router.The Win 7 box has IPv6 enabled. There are no other IPv6 enabled devices on the LAN. In my firewall I see numerous requests originating from the Win 7 PC, which are for the Multicast address ff02::1:ff.... which is a Solicited-Node address query and has a scope of 2 which equates to the local link. As far as I knew local link addresses are filtered by routers, hence local link. Given that situation I'm wondering why I'm seeing these queries being generated to various addresses? Any ideas? • Can't Open Up Event Viewer

  I just installed a large backlog of Windows Updates (I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit) and now a handful of programs are acting strangely (not opening, crashing, etc) I went to try to diagnose the program using the Event Viewer, but when I open it up I get the error "Microsoft Management Console has Stopped Working" immediately after I double-click on the icon. Is there any way for me to figure out what is going wrong? I have another Windows 7 PC, that I tried to remotely view the logs from, but I got the error "The RPC Server is Unavailable". I'd like to start up the service, but oh wait, I can't open anything in the "Administrative Tools". I'd like not to re-install Windows, as I had just done so a couple months ago after a Windows Update jacked up my graphics card drivers.

It working well on Windows XP x32 sp 2 and sp 3 (USB 2.0, many PCs), on Windows 7 x32 Ultimate (USB 2.0, Lenovo and HP laptops) but do not work on Windows 7 x64 Home Premium sp1 — plugged and unplugged frequently in USB 2.0 with baloon with "unknown device" in system tray and works not well in USB 3.0 port (MSI all-in-one PC), not all programs can detect it.   On my Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit system, I have changed the following setting: Local Computer Policy - Computer Configuration - Windows Settings - Security Settings - Local Policies - User Right Assignment - Deny access to this computer from the network This setting was by default "Guest" and I deleted this so that Guest can access a defined network share over the LAN. But later, I have changed my mind and wanted to return this setting to its default. So I edited that setting and specified Guest. But the setting became MYWINPC\Guest. So my question is, what is the difference between the previous setting "Guest" and MYWINPC\Guest? And how do I return this setting to its default value, "Guest"?

• how to debug BSOD irql_not_less_or_equal error

  So I'm getting the irql_not_less_or_equal BSOD. I tried looking at the event viewer for potential causes, and cannot find any. I also checked the CPU temperature in BIOS right after the error and that was fine. I've tried 2 sets of RAM chips already, both give the issues. The error doesn't happen consistently...it happens daily, but many hours can pass and it won't happen, or only 10 minutes can pass and it might happen again. By the way, just bought the parts and built the computer myself a couple of weeks ago. How to debug the cause for this?
