• Profile creation process stuck halfway Websphere

  I'm creating a cell profile on Linux Mint 12 , WAS 8.0 Network Deployment Trial. But using manageProfiles.sh or Profile Management Tool, I can not create any profile (cell, application ...). When I check the log file, the profile creation process is always stop halfway (does not show any error, just stuck there). • WPF: Setting DataContext of a UserControl with Binding not working in XAML

  Hi, I'm trying to get my first WPF app working using MVVM, and I've hit a little binding problem. The setup is that I have a view & viewModel which holds User details (the parent), and to try and keep things simple I've put a section of that view into a separate view & viewModel (the child). The child view is defined as a UserControl. The issue I'm having is how to set the DataContext of the child view (the UserControl). My parent ViewModel has a property which exposes the child ViewModel, like so: class ParentViewModel: INotifyPropertyChanged { public ChildViewModel childViewModel { get; set; } //... } In the XAML for my parent view (which has it's DataContext set to the ParentViewModel), I try to set the DataContext of the child view as follows: <views:ChildView x:Name="ChildView" DataContext="{Binding childViewModel}"/> However, this doesn't work. The DataContext of the child view is set to the same DataContext as the parent view (i.e. the ParentViewModel), as if I wasn't setting it at all. I also tried setting the DataContext in the child view itself, which also doesn't work: <UserControl x:Class="DietRecorder.Client.View.ChildView" DataContext="childViewModel" I have found a couple of ways around this. In the child view, I can bind everything by including the ChildViewModel in the path: <SomeControl Visibility="{Binding Path=childViewModel.IsVisible}"> but I don't want the child view to have this level of awareness of the hierarchy. Setting the DataContext in code also works - however, I have to do this after showing the parent view, otherwise the DataContext just gets overwritten when I call Show(): parentView.Show(); parentView.ChildView.DataContext = parentViewModel.childViewModel; This code also makes me feel uneasy, what with the LOD violation and all. It's just the DataContext that seems to be the problem - I can bind other things in the child, for example I tried binding the FontSize to an int property just to test it: <views:ChildView x:Name="ChildView" FontSize="{Binding Path=someVal}"/> And that works fine. But I'm sure binding the DataContext should work - I've seen similar examples of this kind of thing. Have I missed something obvious here? Is there a reason this won't work? • WPF - ListView within listView Scrollbar problem

  So I currently have a ListView "List A" who's items each have an expander control which contains another ListView "List B". The problem I am having is that sometimes List B grows so big that it extends beyond the range of List A's view area. List A's scroll bars do not pick up the fact that parts of List B are not being displayed. Is there a way to setup my xaml so that the scroll bars for List A will detect when the list inside the expander is longer then the viewing area of List A. • WPF MVVM Trigger Animation on MainWindow close

  I'm using trying to implement MVVM in my app. I have a MainWindow.xaml and a MainWindowViewModel. I'm in the process of removing all of the code-behind code from the MainWindow.xaml but I'm stuck on one final piece. In my pre-MVVM setup I started an animation in the MainWindow.xaml.cs that would fade out the form before closing it. Since Closing is not a RoutedEvent, I had to use code-behind to get this to work. My VM has the following two properties that can be bound: ClosingWindow and CloseWindow. My goal was to bind a DataTrigger in my MainWindowStyle to the ClosingWindow property of the VM. When ClosingWindow was set to True, it would start an animation using the following XAML: <DataTrigger Binding="{Binding ClosingWindow}" Value="True"> <DataTrigger.EnterActions> <BeginStoryboard> <Storyboard> <DoubleAnimation Storyboard.TargetProperty="Opacity" From="1" To="0" Duration="0:0:2"/> </Storyboard> </BeginStoryboard> </DataTrigger.EnterActions> </DataTrigger> Somehow (insert magic here) I was going to set CloseWindow on the VM, via Binding, to True when the animation completed, which would then use an AttachedBehavior to Close the Window. The AttachedBehavior works perfectly when I just set CloseWindow directly using the following XAML: <DataTrigger Binding="{Binding CloseWindow}" Value="True"> <Setter Property="ab:WindowCloseBehavior.Close" Value="True"/> </DataTrigger> ...but I want to reproduce the form fade before the form actually closes. So there are two issues that I've run into: First, the animation doesn't work. I enter the trigger correctly (I've taken out the animation and put a Setter statement in there that changes the Title of the MainWindow to "Closing" and it changes correctly when ClosingWindow = True) but the DoubleAnimation never does anything. Second, there's no way to set the value of CloseWindow once the animation is complete. I looked at Marlon Grech's animation code but that won't work on DataTriggers. I can't publish a RoutedEvent because my VM doesn't descend from UIElement, and I've been Googling all day trying to come up with a clever, MVVM-friendly way to do this with no luck. So any ideas why that animation doesn't do anything? And more importantly, how would you solve the entire problem of animating a form fade on close from the VM? I don't doubt that my entire solution to this problem might be whacked so I'm open to just about anything.

• Deploying MVC2 application to IIS7.5 - Ninject asked to provide controllers for content files

  I have an application that started life as an MVC (1.0) app in Visual Studio 2008 Sp1 with a bunch of Silverlight 3 projects as part of the site. Nothing fancy at all. Using Ninject for dependency injection (first version 2 beta, now the released version 2 with the MVC extensions). With the release of .Net 4.0, VS2010, MVC2 etc., we decided to move the application to the newest platform. The conversion wizard in VS2010 apparently took care of everything, with one exception - it didn't change references to mvc1 to now point to mvc2, so I had to do that manually. Of course, this makes me think about other MVC2 things that could be missing from my app, that would be there if I did File - New Project... But that is not the focus of this question. When I deploy this application to the IIS 7.5 server (running on Win2008 R2 x64), the application as such works. However, images, scripts and other static content doesn't seem to exist. Of course they are there on disk on the server, but they don't show up in the client web browser. I am fairly new to IIS, so the only trick I knew is to try to open the web page in a browser on the server, as that could give me more information. And here, finally, we meet our enemy. If I try to go directly to the URL of one of the images (http://server/Content/someimage.jpg for instance), I get the following error in the browser: The IControllerFactory 'Ninject.Web.Mvc.NinjectControllerFactory' did not return a controller for a controller named 'Content'. Aha. The web server tries to feed this request to MVC, who with its' default routing setup assumes Content to be a controller, and fails. How can I get it to treat Content/ and Scripts/ (among others) as non-controllers and just pass through the static content? This of course works with Cassini on my developer machine, but as soon as I deploy, this problem hits. I am using the last version of Ninject MVC 2 where the IoC tool should pass missing controllers to the base controller factory, but this has apparently not helped. I have also tried to add ignore routes for Content etc., but this apparently has no effect either. I am not even sure I am addressing the problem on the right level. Does anyone know where to look to get this app going? I have full control of the web server so I can more or less do whatever I want to it, as long as it starts working. Thanks!

• MVVM load data during or after ViewModel construction?

  My generic question is as the title states, is it best to load data during ViewModel construction or afterward through some Loaded event handling? I'm guessing the answer is after construction via some Loaded event handling, but I'm wondering how that is most cleanly coordinated between ViewModel and View? Here's more details about my situation and the particular problem I'm trying to solve: I am using the MVVM Light framework as well as Unity for DI. I have some nested Views, each bound to a corresponding ViewModel. The ViewModels are bound to each View's root control DataContext via the ViewModelLocator idea that Laurent Bugnion has put into MVVM Light. This allows for finding ViewModels via a static resource and for controlling the lifetime of ViewModels via a Dependency Injection framework, in this case Unity. It also allows for Expression Blend to see everything in regard to ViewModels and how to bind them. So anyway, I've got a parent View that has a ComboBox databound to an ObservableCollection in its ViewModel. The ComboBox's SelectedItem is also bound (two-way) to a property on the ViewModel. When the selection of the ComboBox changes, this is to trigger updates in other views and subviews. Currently I am accomplishing this via the Messaging system that is found in MVVM Light. This is all working great and as expected when you choose different items in the ComboBox. However, the ViewModel is getting its data during construction time via a series of initializing method calls. This seems to only be a problem if I want to control what the initial SelectedItem of the ComboBox is. Using MVVM Light's messaging system, I currently have it set up where the setter of the ViewModel's SelectedItem property is the one broadcasting the update and the other interested ViewModels register for the message in their constructors. It appears I am currently trying to set the SelectedItem via the ViewModel at construction time, which hasn't allowed sub-ViewModels to be constructed and register yet. What would be the cleanest way to coordinate the data load and initial setting of SelectedItem within the ViewModel? I really want to stick with putting as little in the View's code-behind as is reasonable. I think I just need a way for the ViewModel to know when stuff has Loaded and that it can then continue to load the data and finalize the setup phase. Thanks in advance for your responses.

• How to send email from an EC2 instance using GoDaddy's SMTP server?

  SMTP is a whole new ballgame for me, but I am reading up on it. I am attempting to send email from my EC2 instance using GoDaddy's SMTP server. My domain name is registered through GoDaddy and I have 2 email accounts with them. I can successfully send the email from my dev box no problem. my web.config <system.net> <mailSettings> <smtp from="[email protected]" deliveryMethod="Network"> <network host="smtpout.secureserver.net" clientDomain="mydomain.com" port="25" userName="[email protected]" password="mypassword" defaultCredentials="false" /> </smtp> </mailSettings> </system.net> In my ASP.NET app: MailMessage mailMessage = new MailMessage("[email protected]", recipientEmail, emailSubject, body); mailMessage.IsBodyHtml = false; SmtpClient mailClient = new SmtpClient(); mailClient.Send(mailMessage); Very typical, simple use of System.Net.Mail.SmtpClient. The mail client is picking up the settings from my web.config as expected. All GoDaddy smtp situations I have found involve people being hosted by GoDaddy using their relay server. Some more info: My EC2 instance is Windows Server 2008 with IIS 7. The app is running in .NET 4 I can successfully use Gmail's SMTP server on the EC2 instance by using their port, setting SmtpClient.EnableSsl to true, and sending the mail through a gmail account. But we want to send the email from an account on our domain. I have port 25 open on both the Windows firewall and Amazon's Security group based firewall. I have played with Wireshark and noticed my SMTP related traffic was talking to ports in the 5,000s, so out of desperation I opened them all up to no avail (then closed them back down) As far as I know my EC2 instance's IP address is not black listed by GoDaddy. I have a feeling I'm just missing something fundamental. I also have a feeling someone is going to recommend I use AuthSmtp or something similar, I'll agree, and have had wasted the past 6 hours :)

• Troubleshooting .NET "Fatal Execution Engine Error"

  Summary: I periodically get a .NET Fatal Execution Engine Error on an application which I cannot seem to debug. The dialog that comes up only offers to close the program or send information about the error to Microsoft. I've tried looking at the more detailed information but I don't know how to make use of it. Error: The error is visible in Event Viewer under Applications and is as follows: .NET Runtime version 2.0.50727.3607 - Fatal Execution Engine Error (7A09795E) (80131506) The computer running it is Windows XP Professional SP 3. (Intel Core2Quad Q6600 2.4GHz w/ 2.0 GB of RAM) Other .NET-based projects that lack multi-threaded downloading (see below) seem to run just fine. Application: The application is written in C#/.NET 3.5 using VS2008, and installed via a setup project. The app is multi-threaded and downloads data from multiple web servers using System.Net.HttpWebRequest and its methods. I've determined that the .NET error has something to do with either threading or HttpWebRequest but I haven't been able to get any closer as this particular error seems impossible to debug. I've tried handling errors on many levels, including the following in Program.cs: // handle UI thread exceptions Application.ThreadException += new ThreadExceptionEventHandler(Application_ThreadException); // handle non-UI thread exceptions AppDomain.CurrentDomain.UnhandledException += new UnhandledExceptionEventHandler(CurrentDomain_UnhandledException); Application.EnableVisualStyles(); Application.SetCompatibleTextRenderingDefault(false); // force all windows forms errors to go through our handler Application.SetUnhandledExceptionMode(UnhandledExceptionMode.CatchException); More Notes and What I've Tried... Installed Visual Studio 2008 on the target machine and tried running in debug mode, but the error still occurs, with no hint as to where in source code it occurred. When running the program from its installed version (Release) the error occurs more frequently, usually within minutes of launching the application. When running the program in debug mode inside of VS2008, it can run for hours or days before generating the error. Reinstalled .NET 3.5 and made sure all updates are applied. Broke random cubicle objects in frustration. Rewritten parts of code that deal with threading and downloading in attempts to catch and log exceptions, though logging seemed to aggravate the problem (and never provided any data). Question: What steps can I take to troubleshoot or debug this kind of error? Memory dumps and the like seem to be the next step, but I'm not experienced at interpreting them. Perhaps there's something more I can do in the code to try and catch errors... It would be nice if the "Fatal Execution Engine Error" was more informative, but internet searches have only told me that it's a common error for a lot of .NET-related items.

  In my iPhone Core Data app I have it configured in a master-detail view setup. The master view is a UITableView that lists objects of the List entity. The List entity has a to-many relationship with the Task entity (called "tasks"), and the Task entity has an inverse to-one relationship with List called "list". When a List object is selected in the master view, I want the detail view (another UITableView) to list the Task objects that correspond to that List object. However, when I select a list item, nothing really happens. Nothing in the table view changes, it stays empty. I'm sure my logic is flawed in several places, advice is appreciated Thanks

• Padding error when using RSA Encryption in C# and Decryption in Java

  Currently I am receiving the following error when using Java to decrypt a Base64 encoded RSA encrypted string that was made in C#: javax.crypto.BadPaddingException: Not PKCS#1 block type 2 or Zero padding The setup process between the exchange from .NET and Java is done by creating a private key in the .NET key store then from the PEM file extracted, created use keytool to create a JKS version with the private key. Java loads the already created JKS and decodes the Base64 string into a byte array and then uses the private key to decrypt. • GLFW 3 initialized, yet not?

  I'm struggling with creating a window with the GLFW 3 function, glfwCreateWindow. I have set an error callback function, that pretty much just prints out the error number and description, and according to that the GLFW library have not been initialized, even though the glfwInit function just returned success? I think I'm getting the error because of the setup isn't entirely correct, but I've done the best I can with what I could find around the place I downloaded the windows 32 from glfw.org and stuck the 2 includes files from it into minGW/include/GLFW, the 2 .a files (from the lib-mingw folder) into minGW/lib and the dll, also from the lib-mingw folder, into Windows/System32 In code::blocks I have, from build options - linker settings, linked the 2 .a files from the download. I believe I need to link more things, but I can figure out what, or where I should get those things from.

• Why does Sharepoint 2010 Web Reference work, but Service Reference does not

  Sharepoint is setup to use NTLM authentication. When I reference http://myserver/Sites/Ops/_vti_bin/Lists.asmx?WSDL as a Web Reference, I can call the methods and get valid responses. When I reference the same url as a Service Reference, the server throws an exception when calling methods. My account is admin on the Sharepoint Farm. Boxes being used: Web Box SQL Box SQL Test Box My Application: I've got aASP.NET Web Application, which references a class library that uses LINQ-to-SQL. Connection string set up properly in the class library. As per http://stackoverflow.com/questions/97594/login-failed-for-user-username-system-data-sqlclient-sqlexception-with-linq-i I also added this connection string to the Web Application. The connection string uses SQL credentials as so (in both web app and class library): <add name="Namespace.My.MySettings.ConnectionStringProduction" connectionString="Data Source=(SQL Test Box);Initial Catalog=(db name);Persist Security Info=True;User ID=ID;Password=Password" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /> This connection confirmed as working via adding it to server explorer. This is the connection string my .dbml file is using. The problem: I get the following error: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Login failed for user 'DOMAIN\MACHINENAME$'. Now referencing this http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1269706/the-error-login-failed-for-user-nt-authority-iusr-in-asp-net-and-sql-server-2 it says that's really the local network service and using any other non-domain name will not work. But I am confused because I've checked both SQL Box and SQL Test Box SQL Management Studio and both have NT AUTHORITY/NETWORK SERVICE under Security - Logins, at the database level, that isn't listed under Security - Users, but at the database level Security - Users I have the user displayed in the connection string. At NTFS level on web server, the permissions have NETWORK SERVICE has full control. The reason why I am confused is because I have many other web applications on my Web Server, that reference databases on both SQL Box and SQL Test Box, and they all work. But I cannot find a difference between them and my current application, other than I am using a class library. Will that matter? Checking NTFS permissions, setup of Security Logins at the server and databases levels, connection string and method of connecting (SQL Server credentials), and IIS application pool and other folder options, are all the same. Why do these applications work without adding the machinename$ to the permissions of either of my SQL boxes? But that is what the one link is telling me to do to fix this problem.

  I have created a winform for the users to view view the many reports I am creating for them. I have a drop down list with the report name which triggers the appropriate fields to display the parameters. Once those are filled, they press Submit and the report appears. This works the first time they hit the screen. They can change the parameters and the ReportViewer works fine. Change to a different report, and the I get the following ReportViewer error: An error occurred during local report processing. An error has occurred during the report processing. A data source instance has not been supplied for the data source "CgTempData_BusMaintenance". As far as the process I use: I set reportName (string) the physical RDLC name. I set the dataSource (string) as the DataSource Name I fill a generic DataTable with the data for the report to run from. Make the ReportViewer visible Set the LocalReport.ReportPath = "Reports\\" = reportName; Clear the LocalReport.DataSources.Clear() Add the new LocalReport.DataSources.Add(new ReportDataSource(dataSource, dt)); RefreshReport() on the ReportViewer. In both cases the scripting environments are being called in-process (via C# for Powershell and via Powershell for MSBuild), rather than 'shelling-out' - this was a specific design decision to avoid command-line hell as well as to enable passing actual objects into the Powershell script. However, as soon as the script is executed from C# it fails with the above exception. The C# code being used to call Powershell is shown below (remoting functionality removed for simplicity's sake): // Build the DTO object that will be passed to Powershell dto = SetupDTO() RunspaceConfiguration runspaceConfig = RunspaceConfiguration.Create(); using (Runspace runspace = RunspaceFactory.CreateRunspace(runspaceConfig)) { runspace.Open(); IList errors; using (var scriptInvoker = new RunspaceInvoke(runspace)) { // The Powershell script lives in a file that gets compiled as an embedded resource TextReader tr = new StreamReader(Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly().GetManifestResourceStream("MyScriptResource")); string script = tr.ReadToEnd(); // Load the script into the Runspace scriptInvoker.Invoke(script); // Call the function defined in the script, passing the DTO as an input object var psResults = scriptInvoker.Invoke("$input | Run-MSBuild", dto, out errors); } } Assuming that the issue was related to MSBuild outputting something that the Powershell runspace can't cope with, I have also tried the following variations to the second .Invoke() call: var psResults = scriptInvoker.Invoke("$input | Run-MSBuild | Out-String", dto, out errors); var psResults = scriptInvoker.Invoke("$input | Run-MSBuild | Out-Null", dto, out errors); var psResults = scriptInvoker.Invoke("Run-MSBuild | Out-String"); var psResults = scriptInvoker.Invoke("Run-MSBuild | Out-String"); var psResults = scriptInvoker.Invoke("Run-MSBuild | Out-Null"); I've also looked at using a custom PSHost (based on this sample: http://blogs.msdn.com/daiken/archive/2007/06/22/hosting-windows-powershell-sample-code.aspx), but during debugging I was unable to see any 'interesting' calls to it being made. • iPhone MapKit problems: viewForAnnotation inconsistently setting pinColor?

  Hi, I'm trying setup a map that displays different pin colors depending on the type/class of the location in question. I know this is a pretty common thing to do, but I'm having trouble getting the viewForAnnotation delegate to consistently update/set the pin color. I have a showThisLocation function that basically cycles through a list of AddressAnnotations and then based on the annotation class (bus stop, hospital, etc.) I set an if( myClass == 1){ [defaults setObject:@"1" forKey:@"currPinColor"]; [defaults synchronize]; NSLog(@"Should be %@!", [defaults objectForKey:@"currPinColor"]); } else if( myClass ==2 ){ [defaults setObject:@"2" forKey:@"currPinColor"]; [defaults synchronize]; NSLog(@"Should be %@!", [defaults objectForKey:@"currPinColor"]); } [_mapView addAnnotation:myCurrentAnnotation]; then my viewForAnnotation delegate looks like this, - (MKAnnotationView *) mapView:(MKMapView *)mapView viewForAnnotation:(id )annotation { if( annotation == mapView.userLocation ){ return nil; } NSUserDefaults *defaults = [NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults]; MKPinAnnotationView *annView = nil; annView = (MKPinAnnotationView*)[mapView dequeueReusableAnnotationViewWithIdentifier:@"currentloc"]; if( annView == nil ){ annView = [[MKPinAnnotationView alloc] initWithAnnotation:annotation reuseIdentifier:@"currentloc"]; } annView.pinColor = [defaults integerForKey:@"currPinColor"]; NSLog(@"Pin color: %d", [defaults integerForKey:@"currPinColor"]); annView.animatesDrop=TRUE; annView.canShowCallout = YES; annView.calloutOffset = CGPointMake(-5, 5); return annView; } The problem is that, although the NSLog statements in the "if" block always confirm that the color has been set, the delegate sometimes but not always ends up with the correct color. I've also noticed that what generally happens is that the first search for a new location will set all pins to the last color in the "if" block, but search for the same location again will set the pins to the correct color. I suspect I am not supposed to usen NSUserDefaults in this way, but I also tried to create my own subclass for MKAnnotation which included an additional property "currentPinColor", and while this allowed me to set the "currentPinColor", when I tried to access the "currentPinColor from the delegate method, the compiler complained that it didn't know anything about "currentPinColor in connection with MKAnnotation. Fair enough I guess, but then I tried to revise the delegate method, - (MKAnnotationView *) mapView:(MKMapView *)mapView viewForAnnotation:(id )annotation instead of the default - (MKAnnotationView *) mapView:(MKMapView *)mapView viewForAnnotation:(id )annotation at which point the compiler complained that it didn't know anything about the protocol for MyCustomMKAnnotation in this delegate context. What is the proper way to set the delegate method and/or MyCustomMKAnnotation, or what is the appropriate way to achieve consistent pinColor settings. I'm just about out of ideas for things to try here.
