• Adding JavaScript to your code dependent upon conditions

  You might be in an environment where you code is source controlled and where you might have build options to different environments.  I recently encountered this where the same code, built on different configurations, would have the website at a different URL.  If you are working with ASP.NET as I am you will have to do something a bit crazy but worth while.  If someone has a more efficient solution please share. Here is what I came up with to make sure the client side script was placed into the HEAD element for the Google Analytics script.  GA wants to be the last in the HEAD element so if you are doing others in the Page_Load then you should do theirs last. If you have larger function to declare, you can use a StringBuilder to separate the lines. This is the most compact I wished to go and manage readability.

• OAuth with RestSharp in Windows Phone

  Nearly every major API provider uses OAuth for the user authentication and while it is easy to understand the concept, using it in a Windows Phone app isn’t pretty straightforward. So for this quick tutorial we will be using RestSharp for WP7 and the API from getglue.com (an entertainment site) to authorize the user. • WCF Routing Service Filter Generator

  Recently I've been working with the WCF routing service and in our case we were simply routing based on the SOAP Action. This is a pretty good approach for a standard redirection of the message when all messages matching a SOAP Action will go to the same endpoint. Using the SOAP Action also lets you be specific about which methods you expose via the router. One of the things which was a pain was the number of routing rules I needed to create because we were routing for a lot of different methods. I could have explored the option of using a regular expression to match the message to its routing but I wanted to be very specific about what's routed and not risk exposing methods I shouldn't via the router. I decided to put together a little spreadsheet so that I can generate part of the configuration I would need to put in the configuration file rather than have to type this by hand. To show how this works download the spreadsheet from the following url: https://s3.amazonaws.com/CSCBlogSamples/WCF+Routing+Generator.xlsx In the spreadsheet you will see that the squares in green are the ones which you need to amend. In the below picture you can see that you specify a prefix and suffix for the filter name. The core namespace from the web service your generating routing rules for and the WCF endpoint name which you want to route to. In column A you will see the green cells where you add the list of method names which you want to include routing rules for. The spreadsheet will workout what the full SOAP Action would be then the name you will use for that filter in your WCF Routing filters. In column D the spreadsheet will have generated the XML snippet which you can add to the routing filters section in your configuration file. In column E the spreadsheet will have created the XML snippet which you can add to the routing table to send messages matching each filter to the appropriate WCF client endpoint to forward the message to the required destination. Hopefully you can see that with this spreadsheet it would be very easy to produce accurate XML for the WCF Routing configuration if you had a large number of routing rules. If you had additional methods in other services you can simply copy the worksheet and add multiple copies to the Excel workbook. One worksheet per service would work well.

• Setting the SlideShowExtender's Index

  The AJAX SlideShowExtender is pretty useful. It does what it says and works without much fuss. There was one trick I needed it to perform that I could not find natively within the control. That was to set the slide’s current index. With a little JavaScript however I could make the control do what I wanted. The example below assumes a few things. First you already have a SlideShowExtender setup and working (or see this post). Second this SlideShowExtender is on a page all by itself so the index to set the slide to is passed in the URL. The scenario I had was this SSE was showing full images, the index was passed from another page that had a SSE showing thumbnails. It does not have anything else to do with setting the slide index. The code in the pageLoad function sets the index on the slide_currentIndex line. The slider.setCurrentImage() line does pretty much what it says. I added the slider._slider = ‘’ to avoid an error (not a show stopper just a bit annoying). • Properly create centered vertical navigation list with a hover image on both sides?

  I have a navigation list I placed inside of a , I am attempting to get an image that appears on both sides of a link when you hover. Basically a an arrow on each side of the link. I have managed to get the effect I am looking for with: <ul> <li style=""> <a href="#">Services</a> </li> <li> <a href="#">About</a> </li> <li> <a href="#">Media</a> </li> <li> <a href="#">FAQ</a> </li> <li> <a href="#">Portfolio</a> </li> <li> <a href="#">Contact</a> </li> </ul> .nav ul{ list-style:none; text-align:center; } .nav li:hover a:before, .nav li:hover a:after { content:url(../images/nav_bullet.png); } The end result will look like the following but with the list centered: link >> Hovered Link << link However I am not sure if that is the best way of going about it, and the image is too close to the text. I tried placing a margin and padding but that didn't work. To top of it off, the image is not vertically centered with the link text. Anyone know of a proper way to do this as I am just going by trial and error? Thank you in advance!

• How to run WordPress and Java web app running on Tomcat on the same server?

  I have to run a WordPress site served via Apache2 & Java-based webapp using Tomcat on the same server. When users come to example.com or example.com/public-pages they need to served from WordPress but when they come to example.com/private-pages they need to be served from the Tomcat. I have asked this question on serverfault where they suggested using different port, different IP & sub-domain. I want to go for different port solution since it will mean I need to buy only one SSL certificate. I tried doing the reverse proxy method by having the following in my default-ssl.conf <VirtualHost _default_:443> ServerAdmin webmaster@localhost ServerName localhost:443 DocumentRoot /var/www <Directory /var/www> #For Wordpress Options FollowSymLinks AllowOverride All </Directory> <Proxy *> Order deny,allow Allow from all </Proxy> ProxyRequests Off ProxyPass /private-pages ajp://localhost:8009/ ProxyPassReverse /private-pages ajp://localhost:8009/ SSLEngine on SSLProxyEngine On SSLCertificateFile /etc/apache2/ssl/apache.crt SSLCertificateKeyFile /etc/apache2/ssl/apache.key </VirtualHost> As you have noticed I am using mod_proxy_ajp in Apache2 for this. And that my Tomcat is listening to port 8009 and then serving content. So now when I go to example.com/private-pages I am seeing the content from my Tomcat. But 2 issues are happening. All my static resources are getting 404-ed, so none of my images, CSS, js are getting loaded. I see that the browser is requesting for the resources using URL example.com/css/* This will clearly not work because it translates to example.com:80/css/* instead of example.com:8009/css/* & there are no such resources in the WordPress directory. If I go to example.com/private-pages/abcd I am somehow kicked to the WordPress site (which obviously displays a 404 page). I can understand why #1 is happening but have no clue why the #2 is happening. Regardless, if there is another clean solution for resolving this, I would appreciate y'alls help.

• Apache 2.4 + PHP-FPM + ProxyPassMatch

  I recently installed Apache 2.4 on my local machine, together with PHP 5.4.8 using PHP-FPM. Everything went quite smoothly (after a while...) but there is still a strange error: I configured Apache for PHP-FPM like this: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName localhost DocumentRoot "/Users/apfelbox/WebServer" ProxyPassMatch ^/(.*\.php(/.*)?)$ fcgi://127.0.0.1:9000/Users/apfelbox/WebServer/$1 </VirtualHost> It works, for example if I call http://localhost/info.php I get the correct phpinfo() (it is just a test file). If I call a directory however, I get a 404 with body File not found. and in the error log: [Tue Nov 20 21:27:25.191625 2012] [proxy_fcgi:error] [pid 28997] [client ::1:57204] AH01071: Got error 'Primary script unknown\n' Update I now tried doing the proxying with mod_rewrite: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName localhost DocumentRoot "/Users/apfelbox/WebServer" RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule ^/(.*\.php(/.*)?)$ fcgi://127.0.0.1:9000/Users/apfelbox/WebServer/$1 [L,P] </VirtualHost> But the problem is: it is always redirecting, because on http://localhost/ automatically http://localhost/index.php is requested, because of DirectoryIndex index.php index.html Update 2 Ok, so I think "maybe check whether there is a file to give to the proxy first: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName localhost DocumentRoot "/Users/apfelbox/WebServer" RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f RewriteRule ^/(.*\.php(/.*)?)$ fcgi://127.0.0.1:9000/Users/apfelbox/WebServer/$1 [L,P] </VirtualHost> Now the complete rewriting does not work anymore... Update 3 Now I have this solution: ServerName localhost DocumentRoot "/Users/apfelbox/WebServer" RewriteEngine on RewriteCond /Users/apfelbox/WebServer/%{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f RewriteRule ^/(.*\.php(/.*)?)$ fcgi://127.0.0.1:9000/Users/apfelbox/WebServer/$1 [L,P] First check, that there is a file to pass to PHP-FPM (with the full and absolute path) and then do the rewriting. This does not work when using URL rewriting inside a subdirectory, also it fails for URLs like http://localhost/index.php/test/ So back to square one. Any ideas?

  I have a very simple MVC 4 application I'm trying to deploy to a Windows 2012 server. Inconsistently, when navigating to the root of the web application (http://localhost/app), it returns a 403.14-Forbidden: Detailed Error Information: Module: DirectoryListingModule Notification: ExecuteRequestHandler Handler: StaticFile Error Code: 0x00000000 Requested URL: http://localhost:80/test1/ Physical Path: c:\apps\test1\ Logon Method: Negotiate The web application is: Is a very vanilla VS2012 MVC4 Intranet template -- with only a tweak to a label to prove things were working. runs in an Integrated v4.0 application pool setup to use Windows authentication application pool has a custom AD Identity assigned (so it can gain access to a SQL server) application pool identity has read permissions in the c:\apps\test1 folder in which it is running It's an MVC4 application, targeting .NET 4.0 currently -There's no default document in an MVC4 application (like a default.aspx), as there shouldn't need to be one. I don't want to enable directory listings (as that's not the real error). Installed: Roles / Web Server (IIS) / Appliation Development / (.NET 4.5 Extensibility, Application Initialization, ASP.NET 4.5, ISAP Extensions, ISAPI Filters, WebSocket Protocol) Works locally on my machine in IISExpress on Windows 8 Has configured in web.config: <modules runAllManagedModulesForAllRequests="true" /> is set to precompiled during publish When I change the precompiled option to false, the web application does not fail (in my testing at least, it seems to work consistently). The reason I say it's inconsistent is that I've seen it work, then I've published, and the error returns. I can't find a pattern to the issue (and right now, I haven't been able to get it work again, at all). The 403 is returned from a local or remote web browser. I've had trouble finding a solution that isn't intended for older versions of Windows (like suggestions to reinstall ASP.NET which won't work on Windows 2012). I really don't know what else to try.

  I'm trying to configure Dynamic DNS client on my router with dd-wrt (v24-sp2) firmware so it would dynamically change IP address in one of the DNS records. • "Error in the Site Data Web Service." when performing crawl

  Installed SharePoint Services v3 (SP2, october 2009 cumulative updates, Language Pack), attached to a content database I had previously (all works). Installed Search server 2008 Express (with language pack) on top of WSS and crawl does not work. However it works for newly created web application + database. Was playing around with accounts, permissions to try get it working. Currently I have WSS_Crawler account with such permissions: Office Search Server runs with WSS_Crawler account Config database has read permissions for WSS_Crawler Content database has read permissions for WSS_Crawler WSS_Crawler is owner of search database. Added WSS_Crawler to SQL server browser user group and administrator Yes, i'v given more permissions than needed, but it doesn't even work with that and i don't know if its permission problem or what. Crawl log says there is Error in the Site Data Web Service., nothing more. There were known issues with a similar error: Error in the Site Data Web Service. (Value does not fall within the expected range.), but this is not the case as thats an old issue and i hope it has been included in SP2... Logs are from olders to newest (descending order). • Watchguard Firewall WebBlocker Regular Expression for Multiple Domains?

  I'm pretty sure this is really a regex question, so you can skip to REGEX QUESTION if you want to skip the background. Our primary firewall is a Watchguard X750e running Fireware XTM v11.2. We're using webblocker to block most of the categories, and I'm allowing needed sites as they arise. Some sites are simple to add as exceptions, like Pandora radio. That one is just a pattern matched exception with "padnora.com/" as the pattern. All traffic from anywhere on pandora.com is allowed. I'm running into trouble on more sophisticated domains that reference content off of their base domains. We'll take GrooveShark as a sample. If you go to http://grooveshark.com/ and view page source, you'll see hrefs referring to gs-cdn.net as well as grooveshar.com. So adding a WebBlocker exception to grooveshark.com/ is not effective, and I have to add a second rule allowing gs-cdn.net/ as well. I see that the WebBlocker allows regex rules, so what I'd like to do in situations like this is create a single regex rule that allows traffic to all the needed domains. REGEX QUESTION: I'd like to try a regex that matches grooveshark.com/ and gs-cdn.net/. If anybody can help me write that regex, I'd appreciate it. Here is what is in the WatchGuard documentation from that section: Regular expression Regular expression matches use a Perl-compatible regular expression to make a match. For example, .[onc][eor][gtm] matches .org, .net, .com, or any other three-letter combination of one letter from each bracket, in order. Be sure to drop the leading “http://” Supports wild cards used in shell script. For example, the expression “(www)?.watchguard.[com|org|net]” will match URL paths including www.watchguard.com, www.watchguard.net, and www.watchguard.org. Thanks all!

• TortoiseSVN hangs in Windows Server 2012 Azure VM

  Following @shanselman's article on remoting into an Azure VM for development, I spun up my own VS 2013 VM, and that image runs on WS 2012. Once I was able to remote in, I started installing all my dev tools, including Tortoise SVN 1.8.3 64bit. Things went south once I started attempting to check out code from my personal svn server. It would hang and freeze often, although sometimes it would work - I was able to partially check out projects, but I would get frequent connection time out errors. My personal svn server (VisualSVN 2.7.2) runs at home on a windows 7 machine, and I have a dyndns url pointing to it. I have also configured my router to passthrough all 443 traffic to the appropriate port on the server. I self-signed a cert and made sure it was imported into the VM cert store under trusted root authorities. I have no problems connecting to my svn server from 4-5 other computers & locations. From the Azure VM, in both IE and Chrome, I can access the repository web browser with no issues. There are no outbound firewall restrictions. I have installed other SVN add-ons for Visual Studio (AnkhSVN, VisualSVN) and attempted to connect with my svn server, with largely the same results - random and persistent connection issues (hangs/timeouts). I spun up a completely fresh WS 2008 Azure VM, and installed TortoiseSVN, and had the same results. So I'm at a loss as to what the problem is and how to fix it. Web searches on tortoisesvn and windows server issues doesn't yield any current or relevant information. At this point, i'm guessing that maybe some setting or configuration that MS Azure VM images is the culprit - although I should probably attempt to spin up my own local WS VM to rule out that it's a window server issue. Any thoughts? I hope I'm just missing something really obvious!

• Redmine git integration - issue in accessing git from redmine but not from external git client

  I have setup redmine integration with apache as described in the redmine documentation. I have a /git path accessible with auth and /git-private accessible only to redmine. When I clone the repository through /git path, I get the up-to-date repo. But when I try to view it in redmine repo viewer, I get a 404 "The entry or revision was not found in the repository." error. Trying to clone using the git-private url in the redmine box gives a bare repository though it is the same repo as the one cloned by the /git path. I have enabled RedmineGitSmartHttp in the /git path. What could be the issue here?   I have a shell script that I use to monitor loading times and response codes on my live server cluster. It runs a total of 250 iterations every 5 minutes, distributed across 10 servers and 6 sites. It uses curl with the -w flag to return pertinent information which is then parsed by my shell script: curl -svw 'monitor_load_times %{time_total} %{http_code}' -b 'server=$server' -m 15 -o /dev/null $url 2>&1 This information is then parsed by a graphing script that can display a number of different responses. However, curl will occasionally return a response code of "000". When this happens, it seems to happen multiple times at once despite being distributed over many iterations: What I'm trying to work out is if this is a client-side issue that's skewing my results or if it's actually indicative of a server-side problem affecting my entire cluster. Does 000 mean that the connection was dropped? Database entries corresponding to curl iterations with that response code return "0.000" for the time_total value. All of the search results I've found for curl returning a code of 000 are related to HTTPS being unsupported, but all of my test URLs are HTTP. (The spike in 500 errors is a completely unrelated issue that affected my servers last night.)

• Nginx as a proxy to Tomcat

  Pardon me, this is my first attempt at Nginx-Jetty instead of Apache-JK-Tomcat. I deployed myapp.war file to $JETTY_HOME/webapps/, and the app is accessible at the url: http://myIP:8080/myapp I did a default installation of Nginx, and the default Nginx page is accessible at myIP Then, I modified the default domain under /etc/nginx/sites-enabled to the following: server { listen 80; server_name mydomain.com; access_log /var/log/nginx/localhost.access.log; location / { #root /var/www/nginx-default; #index index.html index.htm; proxy_pass http://127.0.0.1:8080/myapp/; } error_page 500 502 503 504 /50x.html; location = /50x.html { root /var/www/nginx-default; } } Now I get the index page of mypp (running in jetty) when I hit myIP, which is good. But all the links are malformed. eg. The link to css is mydomain.com/myapp/css/style.css while what it should have been is mydomain.com/css/style.css. It seems to be mapping mydomain.com to 127.0.0.1:8080 instead of 127.0.0.1:8080/myapp/ Any idea what am missing? Do I need to change anything on the Jetty side too?

• Issues with ProxyPass and ProxyPassReverse when proxying to localhost and a different TCP port

  I am attempting to use ProxyPass and ProxyPassReverse to proxy requests through Apache to another server instance that is bound to the localhost on a different TCP port that the Vhost exists (VHost is bound to :80, when the target is bound to :5000). However, I am repeatedly receiving HTTP 503 when accessing the Location. According to the ProxyPass documentation... <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName apacheserver.domain.local DocumentRoot /var/www/redmine/public ErrorLog logs/redmine_error <Directory /var/www/redmine/public> Allow from all Options -MultiViews Order allow,deny AllowOverride all </Directory> </VirtualHost> PassengerTempDir /tmp/passenger <Location /rhodecode> ProxyPass http://127.0.0.1:5000/rhodecode ProxyPassReverse http://127.0.0.1:5000/rhodecode SetEnvIf X-Url-Scheme https HTTPS=1 </Location> I have tested binding the alternate server to the interface IP address, and the same issue occurs. The server servicing request is an instance of python paste:httpserver, and it has been configured to use the /rhodecode suffix (as I saw this to be mentioned in other posts about ProxyPass). The documentation from the project itself, Rhodecode, reports to use the above. The issue is persistent if I target another server that is serving on a different port. Does ProxyPass allow proxying to a different TCP port? [update] I won't delete this, in case someone comes across the same issue. It turns out the SELinux boolean httpd_can_network_connect must be set to 1. For persistence on reboot: setsebool -P httpd_can_network_connect=1

• How to resolve Windows Update Error 8024402F on Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit?

  I have been having the same problem with Windows Updates on 2 of my machines at home, both running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. One of the 2 machines is a brand new install, the other has run Windows Update in the past, but is also not working now. When I manually check for updates using the Control Panel, I get error code 8024402F: I followed the link to "Get help with this error", which brings up several articles in Windows Help and Support, none of which are for this specific error code. From the help and general googling I've tried: Checking internet connectivity. Most of the help suggests that this error is caused by a general internet connectivity problem. But if you're reading this, my connection is definitely working fine. Disabling antivirus temporarily and trying to run Windows Update. This didn't help (I run AVG free) Running Control Panel - Troubleshooting - Security Systems - Fix Problems with Windows Update. This said it detected and resolved problems, but didn't help. Update using IE (as I used to in XP). Go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ redirects me to http://test.update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/vistadefault.aspx for which IE displays a "connection problem" (i.e. site unreachable) I've had the same problem for 24 hours now, so surely the Windows Update servers haven't been down this whole time? A quick check on twitter shows no worldwide outcry about Windows Update being unavailable, so is it just me? When I navigated to the following url h t t p://127.0.0.1/index.php I got the following error messages: Warning: require_once(C:\xampp\htdocs/system/codeigniter/CodeIgniter.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in C:\xampp\htdocs\index.php on line 115 Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required 'C:\xampp\htdocs/system/codeigniter/CodeIgniter.php' (include_path='.;C:\xampp\php\PEAR') in C:\xampp\htdocs\index.php on line 115 When I checked line 115 in the index.php, it stated: require_once BASEPATH.'codeigniter/CodeIgniter'.EXT; Experimenting a little, I put CodeIniter's "system" folder at the root as well, and it worked, providing me access to CodeIgniter's Welcome page, but the instructions did not say to do this. Experimenting further, when I put back the "system" folder and navigated to the original place where the index.php h t t p://127.0.0.1/codeigniter_1.7.2/index.php it worked. But myquestion is, how do I get to the CodeIgniter's welcome page by placing only the index.php in XAMPP's htdocs as instructed by CodeIgniter? Any assistance will be appreciated.

• Having trouble redirecting frevvo using mod_proxy

Confluence sits on port 8080 while frevvo sits on port 8082. I want to redirect both of them to port 80 via Apache HTTP web server so that it doesn't get blocked by company proxies. I've been using the document on Atlassian that shows me how to run confluence behind Apache (I can't post a second URL due to being a newbie here) I've successfully redirected Confluence from port 8080 to port 80 so I can now access Confluence using www.example.com/confluence. Now I tried doing the same thing to frevvo with the following configurations: Apache httpd: ProxyRequests Off ProxyPreserveHost On <Proxy *> Order deny,allow Allow from all </Proxy> ProxyPass /confluence http://localhost:8080/confluence ProxyPassReverse /confluence http://localhost:8080/confluence <Location /confluence> Order allow,deny Allow from all </Location> ProxyPass /frevvo http://localhost:8082/ ProxyPassReverse /frevvo http://localhost:8082/ <Location /forms> Order allow,deny Allow from all </Location> And in server.xml for the frevvo Tomcat instance, I added the following within <Host> tag: <Context path=" " docBase="" debug="0" reloadable="false"> <!-- Logger is deprecated in Tomcat 5.5. Logging configuration for Confluence is specified in confluence/WEB-INF/classes/log4j.properties --> <Manager pathname="" /> </Context> The plugin, frevvo, when accessed through the browser using http://localhost:8082 usually redirect to http://localhost:8082/frevvo/web With the above configuration, when accessing www.example.com.au/frevvo redirects to www.example.com/frevvo/web/static/login - which doesn't work.   I have a webserver that has an ssl certificate applied to a subdomain https://shop.mydomain.com. I also have the hostname http://mydomain.com that has no ssl certificate. When invoking https://mydomain.com, browsers issue a warning that a certificate could not be verified because the webserver is identifying itself as https://shop.mydomain.com. I would like all traffic that hits https://mydomain.com to be redirected to http://mydomain.com, and leave https://shop.mydomain.com as is. My httpd.conf file generally looks like this: < VirtualHost 122.11.11.21:80 > ServerName shop.mydomain.com .. regular old port 80 .. < /VirtualHost > < VirtualHost 122.11.11.21:443 > ServerName shop.mydomain.com .. SSL applies here .. < /VirtualHost > < VirtualHost 122.11.11.21:80 > ServerName mydomain.com .. regular old port 80 .. < /VirtualHost > It does not look as if I have SSL set up for https://mydomain.com yet one can invoke SSL mode and the browser identifies the connection as https://shop.mydomain.com. I need to redirect from https://mydomain.com because for some reason, Google has indexed my website with this url even though it shows a warning. I have tried various methods to get this to redirect and nothing has worked. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
