  • What's the proper way of importing option lists into an Android app?

    I have been storing option lists for my Android app in a cloud table. For example, categories like "historical fiction","biography","science fiction", etc. I see the following pros and cons: Pro: I can make changes to the list without sending an app update to Google Play Not normalized - I can use the text in my other data tables instead of a reference ID Con: App needs to take time to download from the web each time (or at least check for changes) English only I believe the "proper" way to do this is the use the XML resource files. But I need to make sure the selection references correctly with my data. That is, my app needs to understand that "Poetry" and "Poesía" are the same thing. Is the correct thing to do: Forget about it since I'll never get to the point where I'm translating my app anyway Use a string-array and use the index (0...x) to know what the selection is Use a 2-dimensional string-array with a reference ID in the first column and the text in the second?

    I have this class that contains vars for db connection; Public Shared s As String Public Shared con As String = WebConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("foo").ToString() Public Shared c As New SqlConnection(con) Public Shared x As New SqlCommand(s, c) I import this to my page like this; Imports DBVars I'm then able to access these vars from my page. But if I try to import them into a user control the variables are not available. Am I making an error or is this expected? Thanks.

    For those unfamiliar with JNotify, this is a library which provides an easy way to monitor events in a directory. For instance, when a file gets deleted in the selected folder, the method "fileDeleted" gets called, along with a few parameters. Here's an example of the fileDeleted method: public void fileDeleted(int wd, String rootPath, String name) { print("deleted " + rootPath + " : " + name); } Now, I would like to know if the deleted file was a file or directory. My usual approach is to create a new File object with the given path, and use the methods isFile() and isDirectory() However, since this file is already deleted, these methods always return false. So here's my concrete question: I have the path to a deleted file or directory, how can I tell wether it was a file or a directory? Is there a workaround to this? What's the best practice to do here?     Hi All, Sure, even I can do this... var testarray : array of string; setlength(testarray, 5); but if I want to get clever and have a procedure into which I pass the array by referance like this I cant do it! procedure DoStuffWithArray(var passedarray : array of string); begin setlength(passedarray, 5); end; compiler says 'incompatible types' on the single line of code in my proc. I can do other stuff on the array like set set element values if i do a setlength before i call the proc, but I cannot do the setlength in my proc, which is what I want to do.   • Does MultiThreading in Java takes much time for task completion?

    I have to search for a string in 10 large size files (in zip format 70 MB) and have to print the lines with the search string to corresponding 10 output files.(i.e. file 1 output should be in output_file1...file2--- output_file2). The same program takes 15 mins for a single file. But if use 10 threads to read 10 files and to write in 10 different files it should complete in 15 mins but its taking 40 mins. How can I solve this. Or multithreading will take this much time only?

    I am getting an error when I try to insert an item into a list (in C++). The error is that there is no matching function for call to the insert(). I also tried push_front() but got the same error.     I'm using two class NiceCustomer & RoughCustomer which implment the interface ICustomer. The ICustomer has four properties. They are: 1) Property Id() As Integer 2) Property Name() As String 3) Property IsNiceCustomer() As Boolean 4) ReadOnly Property AddressFullText() As String I don't know how to map the interface ICustomer, to the database. I get an error like this in the inner exception. "An association refers to an unmapped class: ICustomer" I'm using Fluent and NHibernate. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I added the following to attrs.xml <declare-styleable name="Spinner"> <attr name="tag" format="string" /> </declare-styleable> <declare-styleable name="EditText"> <attr name="tag" format="string" /> </declare-styleable> I get an error saying "Attribute tag has already been defined" for the EditText. Is it not possible to create a custom attribute of the same name on different elements?

Will there be conflicts on the toString? Or can Class1 use Base2::toString to satisfy IBase? Like I say there are lots of other things not shown, so suggestions for major design changes on this example are probably not that helpful... though any general suggestions/advice are welcome.

    I need to match two cases js/example_directory/example_name.js and js/example_directory/example_name.js?12345 (where 12345 is a digit string of unknown length and the directory can be limitless in depth or not exist at all) I need to capture in both cases everything between js/ and .js and if ? exists capture the digit string after ? This is what I have so far ^js/(.*).js\??(\d+)? This works except it also captures js/example_directory/example_name.js12345 I want the regex to ignore that. Any suggestions? Thank you all!   • c++ "interface"-like classes similar to Java?

    In Java, you can define an interface as a class with no actual code implementation, but only to define the methods that a class must implement. Those types can be passed as parameters to methods and returned from methods. In C++, a pure virtual class can't be used as a parameter or return type, from what I can tell. Any way to mimic Java's interface classes? I have a string class in C++, and several subclasses for different encodings (like UTFxxx, ISOxxx, etc) that derive from the base string class. However, since there are so many different encodings, the base class has no meaningful implementation. But it would serve well as an interface if I could handle it as its own object and calls to that object would call on the correct subclass it was inherited to.

    I want to make an intellisense code snippet using Ctl K + Ctl X that actually executes code when it runs... for example, I would like to do the following: <![CDATA[string.Format("{MM/dd/yyyy}", System.DateTime.Now);]]> But rather than giving me that string value, I want the date in the format specified. Another example of what I want is to create a new Guid but truncate to the first octet, so I would want to use a create a new Guid using System.Guid.NewGuid(); to give me {798400D6-7CEC-41f9-B6AA-116B926802FE} for example but I want the value: 798400D6 from the code snippet. I'm open to not using an Intellisense Code Snippet.. I just thought that would be easy.

    im having a weird problem with one variable: its not being recognized but its still printing. i would post my code, but it is massive. the basic idea is: # pseudocode def function(stuff): <do stuff> # These are the only 2 conditions if tag == 3: pka = <a string> if tag == 4: pka = <a string> print pka # (1) print pka # (2) <do stuff not modifying pka> print pka # (3) if pka == 'RSA': <do stuff> elif pka == 'DSA': <do stuff> my code will error at (2). however, it will print out (1), (2), and (3), all of which are the same. is there any general explanation of why this is happening? if my code is really needed, i will post it, but otherwise, i would rather not due to its size update: now the code will error at the if statement after (3), saying UnboundLocalError: local variable 'pka' referenced before assignment even though (1),(2),(3) just printed

    I have a time-series simulation model which has more than 10 input variables. The number of distinct simulation instances would be more than 1 million, and each simulation instance generates a few output rows every day. To save the simulation result in a relational database, i designed tables like this. Table SimulationModel { simul_id : integer (primary key), input0 : string or numeric, input1 : string or numeric, ...} Table SimulationOutput { dt : DateTime (primary key), simul_id : integer (primary key), output0 : numeric, ...} My question is, is it fine to put an unique constraint on all of the input columns of SimulationModel table? If it is not a good idea, then what kind of other options do i have to make sure each model is unique?

    Hi, i was trying to serialize an ArrayList which contacins custom objects. I`am serializing it in a servlet(server side), and deserialize at the client side. (using ObjectOutputStream,ObjectInputStream) it worked fine, when I work with ArrayList< String but when i tried it with ArrayList< MyObject i couldnt get any results in the client side, this is the exception: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: web.MyObject *ofcourse that i have done this: MyObject implements Serializable ...
