  • Which Files located under C:\ are Necessary for Win7 to Boot?

    I had my greatest moment of incredible stupidity and deleted all hidden files of the Windows partition, most commonly known as C:\, while running Gnu/Linux. All the directories are intact. I instantly unmounted it, and run ntfsundelete, though of the thousands entries I wonder which ones I have to recover. So hence my question: Which files located directly under C:\ are necessary for Windows 7 to boot?

  • Which card readers support HID (Human Interface Device) and emulate keyboard input? [closed]

    I'm looking for a card reader to interface with an inhouse webapp and need it to emulate keyboard input to type the card data (serial number) into a web form. A simple usage scenario would be where I open notepad, have notepad focused as front most, swipe the card, and the card reader can type out the card data into notepad as plain text. As long as this works, the card data can work with any web form. Which card readers supports this kind of keyboard emulation mode?

    Well, I'm trying to code a gui for my engine, but I've got some problems. I know how to make a UI overlay but buttons are still black magic for me. Anything I tried was to compilcated ( if it goes big ). To Example I tried to look if the mouse position is the same as the Pixel that is showing the button. But If I use some bigger areas it's getting to complicated. Now I'm searching for a Tutorial how to implement your own gui. I'm really confused about it. Well I hope you have/ know some good tutorials. By the way, I took a look at the DXUTSample, but it's to big to get overview.

  • Can I Reimage My Laptop With the Image of My Desktop?

    I figured if I could reimage the new laptop, I wouldn't have to reinstall all the development software I install on a regular basis on every new system when I get a new contract gig and have to work on site--it takes me a day and a half to get through all of them, so I really need a better solution. Note: I am using Windows 7 Ultimate on my desktop, and using Windows 7 Home on my laptop.

I assume I need to install some type of codec pack. I'm looking for suggestions on a codec pack that I can easily deploy through a Win2003 server to WinXP clients. Ideally, this codec pack shouldn't break anything else and be easily removed if need be.

  • 15 Puzzle Shuffle Method Issues

    I am making a 15 puzzle game in C# that allows the user to enter a custom row and column value up to a maximum of a 10 x 10 puzzle. Because of this I am having problems with the shuffle method. I want to make it so the puzzle is always solvable. By first creating a winning puzzle then shuffling the empty space. The problem is it is too inefficient to call every click event each time. I need a way to invoke the click event of a button adjacent to the empty space but not diagonal. I also use an invisible static button for the empty spot. The PuzzlePiece class inherits from Button. I am not too sure how to do this. I would appreciate any help.   • How do I re-install Samba?

    I recently followed a guide to configure Samba but I couldn't get it configured properly. After realizing that the guide was six years out of date I thought I should start again. I reinstalled samba by first using these commands: sudo apt-get purge samba sudo apt-get install samba But after reading my configuration file (/etc/samba/smb.conf) I noticed that it was the same file, containing the same edits I had made. I then proceeded to delete the directory and then re-install samba again. However, the directory is not replaced after re-instillation and now I don't appear to have a configuration file. How do I get it back? Or install Samba correctly?

  • Can i change the order of these OpenGL / Win32 calls?

    I've been adapting the NeHe ogl/win32 code to be more object orientated and I don't like the way some of the calls are structured. The example has the following pseudo structure: Register window class Change display settings with a DEVMODE Adjust window rect Create window Get DC Find closest matching pixel format Set the pixel format to closest match Create rendering context Make that context current Show the window Set it to foreground Set it to having focus Resize the GL scene Init GL The points in bold are what I want to move into a rendering class (the rest are what I see being pure win32 calls) but I'm not sure if I can call them after the win32 calls. Essentially what I'm aiming for is to encapsulate the Win32 calls into a Platform::Initiate() type method and the rest into a sort of Renderer::Initiate() method. So my question essentially boils down to: "Would OpenGL allow these methods to be called in this order?" Register window class Adjust window rect Create window Get DC Show the window Set it to foreground Set it to having focus Change display settings with a DEVMODE Find closest matching pixel format Set the pixel format to closest match Create rendering context Make that context current Resize the GL scene Init GL (obviously passing through the appropriate window handles and device contexts.)   • Alternative to Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection for Mac?

    When working from Windows, I prefer to use RoyalTS instead of the default Microsoft RDP client, because it allows me to save multiple connections, the credentials of the connection, etc; as well has having more than 1 connection open at a time. Is there a similar (or any) alternative to the Microsoft RDP client for connecting from OSX to Windows? Aside from VNC, that is; at this point I'm hoping to continue using the RDP protocol.

  • How can I automatically require a password when connecting to a WD MyBookLive?

    I have created a user which has specific privileges to access the shares on our WD MyBookLive Network drive (ie it requires a password to connect), however after connecting once Windows seems to remember the password (or at least for the rest of the session). How can I make it so it is necessary to require a password every time the user connects to the drive or makes some change on Windows? I am particularly thinking of Cryptolocker and other variants of "ransomeware" which will try and connect to the drive and encrypt it.

  • No Firefox UI if launched during boot-up

    At work I'm using Windows XP SP2. What I've noticed is if I launch Firefox while Windows hasn't finished booting up, it launches the firefox.exe process but fails to launch the associated UI i.e. there's no Firefox window at the end of it. The only way to resolve this is to kill the firefox.exe process and re-launch Firefox. Has anyone else experienced this kind of behavior? Update: I'm using Firefox 3.6

  • WIN7 and Ubuntu lost after Installing ubuntu 12.04 and win7 dual system ,I have no OS on my laptop now

    Here is the procedure: In the morning I installed ubuntu using a USB directly without config any thing to my win7 system. After install complete, ubuntu installation software tell me to reboot.And everything is just find. While rebooting, there is NO UBUNTU system for me to select,and my laptop go straight to log in using WIN7. NO ubuntu shows on WIN7's configuration(Default System). Log in ubuntu using usb(try ubuntu without installation), I can find ubuntu's filesystem was already there. Formatting the disk on WIN7's disk management, rearranging them to other disk.Still having no trouble with WIN7. In the afternoon try a few times of installation and uninstallation of ubuntu. still shows no sign of selecting ubuntu system. In the evening another trial while installing ubuntu with the third option of: installing ubuntu alongside with INW7, erase win7 and install ubuntu. somethingelse --- my check failed with configuartion for what comes out with the 'something else' option,reboot. And I have no system now with some cmd tips say: Reboot and Select proper Boot Device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key. Files those on win7's orginal file system and Ubuntu filesystem can still be found when I 'try ubuntu without installation'. 5.But I just got no OS when I reboot my laptop normally.

    So I just recently installed Ubuntu Linux 10.04 on my desktop machine alongside Windows 7, it booted just fine the first few times but after I went into my Windows 7 recovery software provided by Packard Bell (I did this on accident BTW I exited it straight away and made no changes as far as I know) and re-booted I get this screen: error: no such partition grub rescue>_ PS: I have installed it on a USB stick using the ISO on the official Ubuntu website.

    Does anyone know if there is a way to prevent windows 7 to go to sleep while using Spotify? I have read the answers in this question but if it's possible I'd rather not resort to start a third party program like insomnia every time I want to listen to music. So are there a setting or a registry entry buried somewhere deep in windows that allows you to do this? Either for a group like "all audio" or for specific programs?

  • Remove USB device from command line

    I'm constructing a backup script for Windows 7, and the last action I want it to perform is to safely "remove" the USB drive that it is backing up to. I am under the impression that plugging the drive into the SAME USB port all the time will keep the same DEV_ID, correct me if I'm wrong. With a Command Line (or PowerShell), how can I tell Windows to safely remove the hardware automatically without user input? Just as a place holder, other OSes that may have a way to do this would be great to know as well

  • IBM LTO 3 Tape drive periodically going "offline"

    I have a problem with a LTO 3 Tape Drive. I'm using Brightstor ArcServe Backup software with Windows Server 2003. Sometimes, the scheduled backups will stop working and going into "devices" inside this software reveals that the Tape Drive is offline. The only way to make it work again is uninstalling the Tape Drive's driver and rebooting the server: Windows then auto recognizes and installs the required drivers and the Tape Drive works again. Has anyone ever encountered a similar problem?
