  • can bind successfully to the ldap server, but needs to know how to find user w/i AD

    I create a login form to bind to the ldap server, if successful, it creates a session (which the user's username is stored within), then I go to another page that has session_start(); and it works fine. What I want to do now, is add code to test if that user is a member of a specific group. So in theory, this is what I want to do if(username session is valid) { search ldap for user -> get list of groups user is member of foreach(group they are member of) { switch(group) { case STAFF: print 'they are member of staff group'; $access = true; break; default: print 'not a member of STAFF group'; $access = false; break; } if(group == STAFF) { break; } } if($access == TRUE) { // you have access to the content on this page } else { // you do not have access to this page } } How do I do a ldap_search w/o binding?     I seem to recall hearing at some point (I believe it was MIX09) that Microsoft has a licensing model of some sort where a business can consume licenses for up to two years, free of charge, until they reach a point where they are stable position and can pay their licensing at the end of two years. However, I can't find information regarding it online. I want to say that possibly stackoverflow used this licensing model to kick start their site. Is anyone familiar with this?

  • How can I check a user/password combination on an ActiveDirectory without putting the password in a String?

    I want to check User/Password combination on a Windows domain. Right now I do it with the following code: bool Login(String username, String password) { var principalContext = new PrincipalContext(ContextType.Domain); principalContext.ValidateCredentials(username, password); } While it works, the thing that bugs me is that I have to put the password in a String in order to use that API; as I am using a SecureString to store the password everywhere else, I would really like to use some way of checking the username / password combination without having to pass the password as a managed System.String. What would be the best way of achieving that?

I don't know why since my model association are well defined and the event table has the foreign keys for the user table.     Hello, I have a User model as illustrated below: class User < ActiveRecord belongs_to :college belongs_to :class_level end I want to ALWAYS join with those other two tables returning one simplified User object. How do I accomplish this in my User model. I'm aware that I can do this in another model: class Foo < ActiveRecord has_many :users, :include => [:college, :class_level] end But I want to do this in my User model, so Foo.users will either be eager loaded OR be joined already. Is there a way to create an initialize this in the User model?

  • SharePoint Returning a 401.1 for a Specific User/Computer

    We have a SharePoint Services 3.0 site set up supporting about 300 users right now. This report is isolated and has never been duplicated. We have one AD user who cannot log into the SharePoint site with his account from his machine and is subsequently returned a 401.1 error. If any other user tries to log on with their account from his machine, it works okay. If he moves to another machine and logs on, it works okay. The only solution to this point has been to install FireFox on the machine. When he authenticates with FF, everything is okay. Remedies tried so far: Cleared cookies/cache Turned off/on Integrated Windows Authentication in IE Downgraded IE 8 to IE 6 Removed site from Intranet Sites zone Renamed the machine Disjoined/Rejoined Domain

  • How to configure ldap login with php

    I'm attempting to implement a login that works with ldap, My extension=php_ldap.dll is uncommented in both of my php config files, ldap shows up in my phpinfo() I have access to AD and I've been using dsquery to snoop around. So I believe I'm very close to achieving my goal function authenticate($user, $password) { $ldap_host = "na.ad.mycompanyname.com"; $ldap_dn = "CN=USA-USERS,DC=ad,DC=mycompanyname,DC=com"; $ldap_user_group = "Domain Users"; $ldap_manager_group = "Domain Admins"; $ldap_usr_dom = "@na.ad.mycompany.com"; So for now when I enter my login credentials, it fails and I get the appropriate error, my question is, what information do I need to enter and which dsquery commands should I use? Without being spoonfed, could someone point me in the right direction? I've done some extensive research, but nothing I could find really assists with figuring out which CN's and OU's to use. Yes I realize I need to be using the correct CN's and OU's that correspond to my location, but I've been trying the guess and check method to no avail, so I figured I would ask.   • Log On As A Service Permission getting removed

    We have PC's that are in a domain that run a windows service on startup. They continually are having the Log On As A Service permission removed for the domain account that is running the service. So when the PC restarts the service won't run. We can re-add the permission by hand to the Group Policy on the machine or retype the password on the service (which grants the permission) and it runs fine for a day or so. What could be removing it? Could it be a Default Policy that does not have this domain account being applied to the PCs thus removing the Log On As A Service permission?

  • Bacula & Multiple Tape Devices, and so on

    Bacula won't make use of 2 tape devices simultaneously. (Search for #-#-# for the TL;DR) A little background, perhaps. In the process of trying to get a decent working backup solution (backing up 20TB ain't cheap, or easy) at $dayjob, we bought a bunch of things to make it work. Firstly, there's a Spectra Logic T50e autochanger, 40 slots of LTO5 goodness, and that robot's got a pair of IBM HH5 Ultrium LTO5 drives, connected via FibreChannel Arbitrated Loop to our backup server. There's the backup server.. A Dell R715 with 2x 16 core AMD 62xx CPUs, and 32GB of RAM. Yummy. That server's got 2 Emulex FCe-12000E cards, and an Intel X520-SR dual port 10GE NIC. We were also sold Commvault Backup (non-NDMP). Here's where it gets really complicated. Spectra Logic and Commvault both sent respective engineers, who set up the library and the software. Commvault was running fine, in so far as the controller was working fine. The Dell server has Ubuntu 12.04 server, and runs the MediaAgent for CommVault, and mounts our BlueArc NAS as NFS to a few mountpoints, like /home, and some stuff in /mnt. When backing up from the NFS mountpoints, we were seeing ~= 290GB/hr throughput. That's CRAP, considering we've got 20-odd TB to get through, in a <48 hour backup window. The rated maximum on the BlueArc is 700MB/s (2460GB/hr), the rated maximum write speed on the tape devices is 140MB/s, per drive, so that's 492GB/hr (or double it, for the total throughput). So, the next step was to benchmark NFS performance with IOzone, and it turns out that we get epic write performance (across 20 threads), and it's like 1.5-2.5TB/hr write, but read performance is fecking hopeless. I couldn't ever get higher than 343GB/hr maximum. So let's assume that the 343GB/hr is a theoretical maximum for read performance on the NAS, then we should in theory be able to get that performance out of a) CommVault, and b) any other backup agent. Not the case. Commvault seems to only ever give me 200-250GB/hr throughput, and out of experimentation, I installed Bacula to see what the state of play there is. If, for example, Bacula gave consistently better performance and speeds than Commvault, then we'd be able to say "**$.$ Refunds Plz $.$**" #-#-# Alas, I found a different problem with Bacula. Commvault seems pretty happy to read from one part of the mountpoint with one thread, and stream that to a Tape device, whilst reading from some other directory with the other thread, and writing to the 2nd drive in the autochanger. I can't for the life of me get Bacula to mount and write to two tape drives simultaneously. Things I've tried: Setting Maximum Concurrent Jobs = 20 in the Director, File and Storage Daemons Setting Prefer Mounted Volumes = no in the Job Definition Setting multiple devices in the Autochanger resource. Documentation seems to be very single-drive centric, and we feel a little like we've strapped a rocket to a hamster, with this one. The majority of example Bacula configurations are for DDS4 drives, manual tape swapping, and FreeBSD or IRIX systems. I should probably add that I'm not too bothered if this isn't possible, but I'd be surprised. I basically want to use Bacula as proof to stick it to the software vendors that they're overpriced ;) I read somewhere that @KyleBrandt has done something similar with a modern Tape solution..   • Mac OS X: What is using my 'active' memory?

    Hello fellas, I'm using a recent MacBook Pro with 8 GB of RAM and after a few hours of using it at work I notice the amount of 'active' memory growing and growing. Whenever I reboot my Mac, everything looks fine and it is hardly using any RAM. But after a few hours it looks like this: As you can see, in this case it's about 4.3 GB. Being a developer, I know that 'active memory' is the amount of memory that is currently used by running processes. So the first thing I did was quitting all applications and killing all processes that don't seem to belong to Mac OS X. After I did that, my active memory came down about 400 MB, but got stuck at what you see in the screenshot. There are no more processes or applications to quit. Now I'm wondering what is actually holding on to the memory? top and Activity Monitor don't report any processes with a high memory usage. Any ideas? Thanks!

  • How do I remove an active outline from jquery accordion ?

    I am using Jquery Accordion. The active link has an outline. I have tried using css: #accordion a:focus { outline: none; } #accordion a:active {outline: none; font-weight:bold;} and also #accordion a:-moz-any-link:focus { outline: none; } None of these seem to work. Can anyone advise a setting or another option to remove the dotted outline around the active links?

  • Is it possible to open an Active Director or Exchange Management Console user dialog directly from Powershell?

    I'd like to be able to launch either the AD user dialog, or the EMC mailbox dialog directly from a Powershell script to open a specific user. The workflow goes something to the effect of "Does everything look correct on this user? Y/N" to continuing on, or to bringing up the account to edit. There's no reason to completely duplicate the functionality of these dialogs. I don't mind requiring that EMC or ADU&C already be open before the script is run, if necessary.
