  • Letting users make their own dns changes? Any software available to manage this tricky situation?

    I currently waste a lot of time making dns changes for my organization. DDNS of course helps for workstations, but we still have a few thousand unique servers with still more applications needing cname records that DHCP/DDNS alone will not support, so someone needs to make updates, but I'd like to see sysadmins make their own dns updates for their machines. I'm currently working on extending our asset database to support this functionality, but I hold out hope that there are COTS solutions available.

    Ok probably a bit of an odd question, but is there a way to enable "finger" like functionality on a Windows network? we'd basically like the ability to find out where a user is logged in on a network and possibly which users are logged onto a workstation if possible. We're currently on AD2003 functional level, with the intent of going to AD2008 very soon, so compatibility in that arena is preferable.

    My Firefox upgraded itself automatically to version 3.6, and I found that IE tab is broken there. Apparently IE tab is known to be broken in this version. Are there any known workarounds such as these? a different plugin with the same functionality a way to tell FF to behave in some legacy or compatibility mode for certain plugins a new version of IE tab In the meanwhile I'm glad that Chrome's current release supports plugins, and IE tab works there.

At the moment I am having a problem with some users having mixed case user names in active directory. Would it be possible to change all users with mixed case user names to be all lowercase instead? I'm using Windows Server 2003 Active Directory with 64 bit domain controller running on Windows 2000 mixed functionality.

    I'm currently running a Microsoft Server 2008 R2 box and want to utilize Volume Shadow Copy but my development machine doesn't have enough hard drive space for 30 days worth of copies, which is what I am aiming for and currently only have 5 days of backups. I have another Windows XP box and I was wondering if it was possible to remotely store the shadow copy images in my remote XP box. If it isn't possible with the built in Volume Shadow Copy, is there an open source alternative that I can utilize that has the same or similar functionality?

    Does mysql replication supports delayed sync if remote slave server is OFF? For example I want to make my developing server have a fresh copy of databases each morning. It should be partial sync, not full copy of databases each morning. And synchronization should be only ONE way, not duplex, to avoid deleting something of master server. Or, alternatively, edit the email messages in the OST file (of MS Outlook), so that they then can be synchronized with the Exchange server? PS.     I'm running an Asus MyCinema U3100mini ATSC on Windows 7 64-bit. When I play live TV in Windows Media Center, it's very choppy and uses 500+ MB of RAM, I'm guessing due to the hard drive buffering functionality. Is there any way to disable the live TV pause buffer completely? If not, can anyone recommend alternative software that: Works with the MyCinema. Is lightweight and not horribly bloated with features I'll never use like Windows Media Center is.

  • Sendmail is not ignoring MX lookups

    Hello, I recently learned of the joys of square brackets with SMART_HOST to have sendmail ignore MX lookups. I need this functionality, however, I can't seem to make it persistant. Sending mail with -Am works, however, -bm does not. In the -Am case, the correct mail server is used. In the -bm case, an MX lookup is still being performed. Is there a way to disable MX lookups (or some working alternative)? Thanks

    Is there an application or plug-in that allows viewing .eml E-Mail dumps (that may contain HTML and attachments) in Windows 7's preview pane? I'm aware of the possibility of adding the file type in the registry but that will give only a plain-text view of the files, not a parsed view. HTML viewing is a must for what I need, attachments are optional. Is there some top-notch E-Mail client that introduces this functionality? Is there a generic way of doing this?

    Are there any extensions for Chrome that allow me to export all currently opened tabs as a text file, containing all the URLs of those tabs? I don't necessarily need it to be a text file if there is another way that you can think of. My goal is to share the URLs with someone via email.   • AD group authentication to view wordpress posts?

    I'm trying to set up a wordpress site using active directory authentication. One question that has come up is the ability to limit category/post/blog reading to specific AD groups. I've never seen this done and I haven't been able to find any plugins that seem to promise this functionality. It would seem that the best option is to just give a bunch of users a role with the read_private_posts capability, but I'm not sure this will do the trick.
