• jQuery UI draggable and text selection

  I am using jQuery 1.8.3 and jQuery UI 1.9.2. My web application has got some draggable elements and I would like to allow the user to select some text in the contained elements. I've seen there are some other questions on this topic. Another path I am following is use the right-click of the mouse and use some text-selection plug-in I have found. Still I can't make it work. It seems that draggable/sortable elements don't allow text selection or can intercept mouse (clicks) events. Any ideas? Regards.

• Patterns for avoiding jQuery silent fails

  Is there any good practice to avoid your jQuery code silently fail? For example: $('.this #is:my(complexSelector)').doSomething(); I know that every time this line get executed, the selector is intended to match at least one element, or certain amount of elements. Is there any standard or good way to validate that? I thought about something like this: var $matchedElements = $('.this #is:my(complexSelector)'); if ($matchedElements.length < 0) throw 'No matched elements'; $matchedElements.doSomething(); Also I think unit testing would be a valid option instead of messing the code. My question may be silly, but I wonder whether there is a better option than the things that I'm currently doing or not. Also, maybe I'm in the wrong way checking if any element match my selector. However, as the page continues growing, the selectors could stop matching some elements and pieces of functionality could stop working inadvertently.

• resort on a std::vector vs std::insert

  I have a sorted std::vector of relative small size ( from 5 to 20 elements ). I used std::vector since the data is continuous so I have speed because of cache. On a specific point I need to remove an element from this vector. I have now a doubt: which is the fastest way to remove this value between the 2 options below? setting that element to 0 and call sort to reorder: this has complexity but elements are on the same cache line. call erase that will copy ( or memcpy who knows?? ) all elements after it of 1 place ( I need to investigate the behind scense of erase ). Do you know which one is faster? I think that the same approach could be thought about inserting a new element without hitting the max capacity of the vector. Regards AFG

  What is the best practice is in the case of altering the render order of elements on a webpage. For example, I have two DIVs that are to be displayed on a page: <div id="appleSection"> <!-- Apple DIVs, content, form elements, etc --> </div> <div id="orangeSection"> <!-- Orange DIVs, content, form elements, etc --> </div> Depending on user selection (perhaps by country or something), the order which the DIVs are presented to the user can differ. Certain conditions present appleSection above orangeSection, and for other conditions, their order is reversed. If the core logic of the page is the same regardless, is it a best practice to determine order on the server-side (perhaps via two pages that differ in the order of the DIVs), or is it more appropriate to have just a single page and use CSS to control whether appleSection is above orangeSection or vice versa?

• Quick way to get an NSDictionary from an XML NSData representation?

  I've loaded an XML file as NSData into memory and parse over the elements using NSXMLParser. Although it works, it's a very ugly and hard to maintain code since there are about 150 different elements to parse. I know there are nice third-party solutions, but I want to keep it with the iPhone SDK for purpose of practice and fun. So I thought: Why not convert that XML file into an NSDictionary? Having this, I could use fast enumeration to go over the elements. Or is it just the same amount of ugly code needed to parse and process an XML right away with NSXMLParser? Would I build up an NSDictionary for every found node in the XML and create a huge one, containing the whole structure and data? Or is there an even simpler way?

• Iphone UI Size / Layout Resource?

  Is anyone aware of a website or download to reference for the size of UI elements or standard iphone interface stuff? What I mean is something that gives the height of elements like the status bar, tab bar, navigation bar, default tableviewcell height (and such things as width of accessory view, indentation, etc), default icon sizes, default font sizes for UI elements (if they need to be mimicked, for instance), etc etc etc. It's amazing how many times I have to go back to find a reference or estimate the size and position of a standard element. It seems like it would be an invaluable resource that could fit on a printed page or two.

• Is a selector like *+* safe to use?

  I recently came across this CSS selector while trying to find a way to easily space out major blog elements such as paragraphs and images. An example of its use would be something like this: .post *+* {margin-top: 15px;} /* or... */ .post > *+* {margin-top: 15px;} /* if you don't want the margin to apply to nested elements */ At first glance, it seemed pretty useful. So my question is: What downsides are there to using these selectors? Specifically: What's the browser support like for this? Are there any cases you wouldn't want an even margin spacing between elements in an article and if not, is it easier to declare this first and then overwrite or simply declare each element individually? Does this have performance issues since you're selecting everything twice?

  Sample jquery. Assume $cog is a cached selector of multiple items. $cog.fadeOut('slow',function(){ alert('hey'); }) In that example, of $cog is a jQuery object of 4 DOM elements, the above will fade each element out one by one, and trigger an alert each time on the callback (4 alerts). I'd like to only call the alert when all 4 elements are done with their fadeOut function. This: $cog.fadeOut('slow',function(){ }) alert('hey'); when run, will show an alert, then the $cog elements disappear (I'm guessing due to timing issues with the fadeOut animation) Is there a way when calling a function against multiple DOM objects in a jQuery object to know when it's done with the last item?

  I have an elements on page that are draggabe with jQuery. These elements have click event wich navigates to another page (ordinary links for example). What is the best way to prevent click from firing on dropping such element, while allowing clicking it in not drag and drop state? I have this problem with sortable elements, but think it is good to have solution for general drag and drop. I've solved the problem for myself. After that found that same solution exists for Scriptaculous, but maybe someone have a better way to achieve that.

  Hi all! I have an Array of Class elements, and by an int variable i need to resize this array to the last X elements. So for example i have an array with: Array[0] = Msg1 Array[1] = Msg2 Array[2] = Msg3 Array[3] = Msg4 Array[4] = Msg5 Array[5] = Msg6 Array[6] = Msg7 Array[7] = Msg8 Array[8] = Msg9 Array[9] = Msg10 and i need to have only the last 8 elements in the array. i cannot use the Array.Resize function because the result would be: Array[0] = Msg1 Array[1] = Msg2 Array[2] = Msg3 Array[3] = Msg4 Array[4] = Msg5 Array[5] = Msg6 Array[6] = Msg7 Array[7] = Msg8 and i need something like this: Array[0] = Msg3 Array[1] = Msg4 Array[2] = Msg5 Array[3] = Msg6 Array[4] = Msg7 Array[5] = Msg8 Array[6] = Msg9 Array[7] = Msg10 How can i do this? i hope my problem is clear. • How to store coordinates in a database

  Hello all! I have a Flex GUI where I have to place quadrate elements. The position of these elements need to be stored into a database. So I can create two integer fields in the db table x and y. Also I need an angle, because the user can rotate these elements, so I can also make a int (int is okay, I do not need a double value therefore). As a ORM, I use Hibernate. But the question is, if creating three integer fields is the best way to handle this. Perhaps someone can tell me if this will be okay or if there are better ways? • Automatically save CSS changes made to existing styles in Chrome dev tools?

  I've already mapped the necessary files to the local resource - however, while that does allow me to save any changes made to a file in the Sources panel, I was wondering if it's possible to automatically save changes to CSS made in the Elements panel. Otherwise at the moment, any changes made to the style in the Elements panel seem to exist only there. I remember at some point there used to be a little indicator of the file and line number next to a class/id etc. in the Styles tab of the Elements panel - surely it can't be that hard to simply 'update' any changes to that style rule considering Chrome knows exactly where it's coming from (in the case that it's a stylesheet and not an inline style?). It would be a great relief to my workflow. The answers to this similar question are obsolete.

• Manipulate DOM before it is shown to the user?

  Hi, I'm not too familiar with javascript, is there a way to manipulate the DOM before the page is displayed to the user? I'm using GWT which makes you create the page elements via javascript. This is kind of convenient, but it appears that all the javascript code is executed after the page is first shown to the user. This has the effect of showing the page as a blank white screen, then all the UI elements popping onto screen. The effect is really apparent when switching between pages. If I were using php or jsp, it looks like the page ui elements are already prerendered and the browser won't show a blank white screen before display. So is there any hook in javascript where we can manipulate the DOM before the browser clears out the contents of the last page shown? Thanks

[b,a,c] in list A and [b,d,c,e] in list B how can i get prolog to give me C,which is a list of elements that A has which are not included in list B Ex. So if i type difference([b,a,c],[b,d,c,e],C). I want the answer to read: C=[a] If i have two lists where list A is made up off [a,b,c] and list B is [c,a,b] i want the result to be Yes if i type: same([a,b,c],[c,a,b]). since they contain the same elements the fact that they are in a different order does not matter. Also it should only answer yes if all of the elements are the same not if 3/4 are right.

I would like to print this list to a text file like this: mylist.txt 234984 10354 41175 932711 426928 1693237 13462 I know that I can use sink(), but it prints names of elements [[x]], [y] and I want to avoid it. Also because of different number of elements in each element of the list it is not possible to use write() or write.table().

  I have a table with multiple <tbody> elements. At a given momement, certain <tbody elements are visible and some are hidden, and I need to select only the visible ones. I use jQuery's :visible selector. Now the problem is that I need to perform that task before I display the table, AKA while the table is hidden, and then the :visible selector doesn't work. How can I select "visible" <tbody> elements while the table is hidden? Thanks.

  My question, is, whether the sequence of elements picked from a list will always be the same, is this construction behaviour is deterministic for java "List"s - descendants of java.util.List 2) question, if I use for(Object o: list) construction and inside the loop's body increment a variable, will it be the index of list's elements? So, how it goes through list's elements, from 0 to size()-1 or chaotically? List.get(i) will always return this element? 3) question ( I suppose for the 2-nd question the answer will be negative, so:) for (int i=0; i < list.size(); i++) { } is the best way if I need to save the index of an element and later get it back from a list by its id?

Assume that it is a square matrix: all rows have the same length and there are as many rows as elements in each row. Also assume that the matrix is at least of dimension 2 by 2 (i.e. minimally the matrix has 2 rows with 2 elements each) The function should return a list with as many elements as number of rows. Element i in the resulting list should have the sum of the values in row i. For example, if the matrix is 1 2 3 10 20 30 100 200 300 then this function should return the list [6,60,600] That is, addValuesInAllRows( [ [1,2,3], [10,20,30], [100,200,300] ] ) should return [6,60,600] Isn't this sort of similar but how would you sum up the list individually

  I am programming a GUI application in Java. I do it for the first time. I would like to have a form (with radio buttons and so on). After the form is filled in and the "Submit" button is pressed I would like to have a new window. I see two potential ways to do it: Close the "old" window and open a "new" one. Remove "old" elements from the existing window and put there "new" elements. What is the standard way to go? If it is the first way, what is the command to close the window? If it is the second one, how can I remove elements from the existing window?

  I have been struggling with this for a few days. I need somebody to steer me in the right direction. I have been searching on the web. I am not sure if I took the right approach. What I need is that each time a person hovers over a particular keyword, it should display an alert box. In this example the word is else.   In this blog I will explain how to add a custom DFF in a custom OAF page.I am using XXCUST_DFF_DEMO table to store the DFF values.Also I am using custom DFF named XXCUST_PERSON_DFF.  Following steps needs to be performed to create this solution. 1) Register the custom table in Oracle Application2) Register the DFF3) Define the segments of DFF4) Create BC4J components for OAF and OA Page which holds the DFF I will explain the steps in detail below. Register the custom table in Oracle Application I am using custom DFF here so I have to register the custom table which I am going to capture the values.Please click here to see the table script. I am using the AD_DD package to register the custom table.Please click here to see the table registration script. Please verify the table has registered successfully. Navigation: Application Developer > Application > Database > Table Table has registered successfully. Register the DFF Next step is to register the DFF. Navigate to Application Developer > Flex Field > Descriptive > Register. Give details as below. Click on Reference Fields and set the Reference Field as ATTRIBUTE_CATEGORY. Click on the Columns button to verify that the columns ATTRIBUTE_CATEGORY,ATTRIBUTE1 .... ATTRIBUTE30 are enabled. DFF has registered successfully. Context Code Segments Global Data Elements Phone Number Email Fax Contractor Manager Extension Number CSP Name Permanent Extension Number Access Card Number Phone Number,Email and Fax displays always.When user choose Context Value as "Contractor" Manager Extension Number and CSP Name will show.In case of "Permanent" Extension Number and Access Card Number will show.  Assign value set also as follows. Create BC4J components for OAF and OA Page which holds the DFF Create the BC4J components ( EO,VO and AM) appropriately.Create the page based on the created VO.For DFF create an item of type "flex" with following property.  Note: You cannot create a flex item directly under a messageComponentLayout region, but you can create a messageLayout region under the messageComponentLayout region and add the flex item under the messageLayout region. In the Segment List property give the segment names which you want to display.The syntax of this is Global Data Elements|SEGMENT 1|...|SEGMENT N||[Context Code1]|SEGMENT 1|...|SEGMENT N||[Context Code2]|SEGMENT 1|...|SEGMENT N||... Eg: Global Data Elements|Phone Number|Email|Fax||Contractor|Manager Extension Number|CSP Name||Permanent|Extension Number|Access Card Number When you change the Context Value corresponding segments will display automatically by PPR in the page. You can attach partial action to the DFF bean programmatically so that you can identify the action related to DFF. pageContext.getParameter(EVENT_PARAM) will return "FLEX_CONTEXT_CHANGEDPersonDFF" when you change the DFF Context. Page is ready and you can test. When you choose "Contract" following output you can see. When you choose "Permanent" following output you can see.  Give proper values and press Apply.You can see values populated in the table.

• If you had to reinvent a new syntax for regular expressions, what would it look like?

  Regular expressions as they are today are pretty much as concise and compact as they can be. Consequently, they are often criticised for being unreadable and hard to debug. If you had to reinvent a new syntax for regular expressions, what would it look like? Do you prefer the concise syntax they already have (or a different but similarly concise syntax)? If so, please justify why you think regular expressions deserve to be this concise, but your favourite programming language doesn’t (unless it’s Perl). Or do you think regular expressions should have a slightly more spaced-out syntax and look a bit more like operators and syntax elements normally do in programming languages? If so, provide examples of what you think the syntax should look like, and justify why it is better than the current syntax. Or do you think there shouldn’t even be a special syntax for regular expressions, and instead they should be constructed from syntax elements already present in the programming language? If so, give examples of a syntax that might be used to construct such regular expressions.
