  • Trying to Nullify Django model fields with method where model and fields are parameters

    I'm trying to write a method like the below where a list of fields (a subset of all the fields) is passed in as a parameter and has their column values set to null. I would be happy of I could get a method with just the fields as a parameter like below, but having the model as a parameter would be even better. from my_project.my_app.models import MyModel def nullify_columns (self, null_fields): field_names = MyModel._meta.get_all_field_names() for field in field_names: if field in null_fields: # The below line does not work because I'm not sure how to # dynamically assign the field name.     I have just installed the lastest RC of VS2010, which for me represents a shift from VS2008. A new comment formatting feature that I was looking forward to appears to be missing. About 6 months ago I read a Scott Gu blog post that mentioned a new VS2010 feature that would format /// style method comment blocks into more readable formatted regions inline with other code. The Scott Gu blog did not provide a screen shot but I was expecting the VS2010 editor to remove the XML tags from the /// method comment block and render just the essential text comment. Was this feature pulled during the Beta, or is there an option switch urking somewhere?

    The helper method current_user is defined and made available as a helper in ApplicationController like this: class ApplicationController < ActionController::Base helper_method :current_user def current_user return @current_user if defined?(@current_user) @current_user = current_user_session && current_user_session.record end end My question is how I can use the current_user helper method in a mailer template (obviously it will always return nil, but I'm trying to render a partial that depends on it). Normally when I want to use helpers in a mailer, I do something like add_template_helper(SongsHelper), but since the helper is defined in a class instead of a module I'm not sure what to do

    I'm making a shopping cart app in Google App Engine. I have many classes that derive from a base handler: class BaseHandler(webapp.RequestHandler): def get(self, CSIN=None): self.body(CSIN) Does this mean that the body() method of every descendant class needs to have the same argument? This is cumbersome. Only one descendant actually uses that argument. And what about when I add new args?     hi there is there a way to translate an expression to sql to use with linq to sql? for example I have a method that compares two values example: MyComparer.Compare(value1, value2, ">") return value1 > value2 MyComparer.Compare(value1, value2, "=") return value1 == value2 MyComparer.Compare(value1, value2, "<=") return value1 <= value2 and i would like a query like var list = from i in dataContext.items where MyComparer.Compare(i.value, someValue, "some operator") select ... this won't work because, obviously, MyComparer doesn't translate to sql maybe this is a twisted question, but how can i translate this method to sql or is this possible? tks

  • can i change membership provider GetAllUsers method?

    Hi i am using vb.net and the .net membership provider. i want to bring back a gridview with user account information, like GetAllUsers() does. However i want to only bring back users with certain profile information, that will be users whos profile information matches the selected value in a dropdownlist on the same page. I am using profile provider to record just one extra piece of user information. Can i change or override the GetAllUsers method for this? Adding an extra parameter so its GetAllUsers by Profile. Membership has a FindUsersByName method, i want to do something similar with users by Profile. I am very much a noob with .net programming so i hope i have explained this ok.

  • How to remove ActiveX Add on from IE 7 (normal method does not work)

    Hi, Does anybody know how to remove an ActiveX control from Internet Explorer 7.0 ? I had been deleting and adding this control numerous times using the built in delete button in Tools, Manage Add-ons, Enable or Disable. This is required for me to test a downloader ActiveX used for a website. It had always shown up in the "Downloaded ActiveX Controls (32 bit) section of the drop down which activates the delete button. However, all of a sudden it now appears under "Add ons that have been used by Internet Explorer" and I cannot delete it from there. The "in folder" column says it's in the C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files folder... But it does not appear to be there either... Thanks, James

    Hello friends, I have created my own custom role provider class "SGI_RoleProvider" and configured properly. Everything is working fine. Suppose that I have added a public method say "SayHello()", then how can i call that. Because if i am using Roles then the method is not displayed. If i am forcefully using that Roles.SayHello() then compiler gives the error. Any suggestion how can i call this. Because creating a new instance of SGI_RoleProvider is meaningless.   • Better Method of Opening TTY Permissions

    At work, I have a few legacy servers that I log into as root, and then su down to a user. I continue to run into an issue where after doing so, I am unable to run screen as this user. I don't want to open screen as root, because then I have to consciously su down the user every new shell, and I often forget. The question is, is there an easier resolution to this than I'm currently aware of? My current solution is to find my terminal pts number, then set it chmod 666. I'm looking for something akin to X11's xhost ACL management, if such a thing exists for this situation.

    I want to convince my boss that we should be using git for version control. He says, that it absolutely must authenticate users through our central LDAP server. I looked at the various solutions (gitweb, gitorious ... ) and couln't really find a definitive answer about whether they support LDAP authentication. The only solution I could find a little info on was a Apache+mod_ldap setting. But that would mean that the user authenticating on LDAP wouldn't necessarily be the same as the actual git user, right? (Not that this is a huge problem, but just something which would bug me.) So, what's the best way to authenticate git users via LDAP?

  • Help choosing authentication method

    I need to choose an authentication method for an application installed and integrated in customers environment. There are two types of environments - windows and linux/unix. Application is user based, no web stuff, pure Java. The requirement is to authenticate users which will use my application against customer provided user base. Meaning, customer installs my app, but uses his own users to grant or deny access to my app. Typical, right? I have three options to consider and I need to pick up the one which would be a) the most flexible to cover most common modern environments and b) would take least effort while stay robust and standard. Option (1) - Authenticate locally managing user credentials in some local storage, e.g. file. Customer would then add his users to my application and it will then check the passwords. Simple, clumsy but would work. Customers would have to punch every user they want to grant access to my app using some UI we will have to provide. Lots of work for me, headache to the customer. Option (2) - Use LDAP authentication. Customers would tell my app where to look for users and I will walk their directory resolving names into user names and trying to bind with found password. This is better approach IMO, but more fragile because I will have to walk an unknown directory structure and who knows if this will be permitted everywhere. Would be harder to test since there are many LDAP implementation out there, last thing I want is drowning in this voodoo. Option(3) - Use plain Kerberos authentication. Customers would tell my app what realm (domain) and which KDC (key distribution center) to use. In ideal world these two parameters would be all I need to set while customers could use their own administration tools to configure domain and kdc. My application would simply delegate user credentials to this third party (using JAAS or Spring security) and consider success when third party is happy with them. I personally prefer #3, but not sure what surprises I might face. Would this cover windows and *nix systems entirely? Is there another option to consider?

  • Scala Lift - Robust method to protect files from hotlinking

    I'm attempting to implement a way to stop hotlinking and/or un-authorised access to resources within my app. The method I'm trying to add is something I've used before in PHP apps. Basically a session is set when the page is first called. The images are added to the page via the image tag with the session value as a parameter: <img src="/files/image/[handle]?session=12345" /> When the image is requested the script checks to see if the session is set and matches the provided value. If the condition is not met the serving page returns null. Right at the end to the code I unset the session so further requests from outside the scope of the page will return null. What would be the best implementation of this method within the lift framework? Thanks in advance for any help, much appreciated :)

  • Automated method to convert .reg registry file to reg.exe commands

    Occasionally I need to put registry entries into batch files to use in login scripts, unattended installers, etc. While it's pretty easy to add one or two registry commands to a batch file using reg.exe, when there is a large amount of registry data, it becomes tedious. I usually just end up merging an external reg file in those cases, which I would like to avoid, since it ruins the self-contained nature of the batch file. Does anybody know of any tools which can automatically convert a .reg file to a series of REG ADD and REG DELETE commands? This would make life a lot easier! Thanks.

  • Creating method templates in Eclipse

    Is there any way to do the following in eclipse? Have eclipse template a method like the following public void test(){ // CREATE MOCKS // CREATE EXPECTATIONS // REPLAY MOCKS // VERIFY MOCKS } so then I could presumably just use intellisense and select an option like "createtest" and have it stub out a method with the comments similar to the above?My problem is that often myself and other developers I know forgot all the steps we need to follow to do what we dub as a valid unit test for our application. If I could template our test methods to stub out the comments above it would be a big help.

    Hi, I am trying to write a Ruby script in one file. I would like to know if it is possible to write the "main" function in the beginning, having the other functions that are used by main, defined after it. In other words, I would like to call a not yet defined function, so that they do not depends on definition order. Just changing the order is not possible because it gives an "undefined method" error. In C/C++ we use forward declarations... is there something similar in Ruby or another solution to this?

  • Mapping to a JSON method with url-pattern

    I'm creating a Spring MVC application that will have a controller with 'RequestMapping'-annotated methods, including a JSON method. It currently has static content that resides in webapps/static, and the app itself resides in webapps/myapp. I assume that Catalina's default servlet is handling the static content, and my *.htm url-pattern in web.xml is returning the request for my JSP page, but I haven't been able to get the JSON method to be called. How do I write the url-pattern in the servlet mapping to do so? Using /* has not worked; it prevents the app from being accessed at all. Is there anything else to be aware of? EDIT: The url-pattern '/' appears to allow the JSON request through, because a 406 error is returned. What then would need to be modified to allow JSON to be returned?

  • Best method of transferring files over internet?

    I have a seedbox (running Ubuntu 9.10) at my (parent's) house and will be leaving it there once I go to college this fall. Currently I'm using samba to transfer files between computers, but I was wondering if once I am on my university's network, whether using FTP would be a better option versus samba over a VPN. The files will range from 100 MB to 17 GB, if that matters. Would one be more efficient over the other? Did I forget any other options?
