• Using SSL with Openfire

  I'm having a rough time getting SSL configured properly on an Openfire install. Quite honestly, I just don't know what to do. It seems convoluted on the steps necessary to get a cert imported. Has anyone out there successfully done this? I'm running Openfire 3.6.4 on Server2003 R2. I have a signed UC cert which is ready to roll, I just don't know what to do with it. I've been through tons of tutorials on converting from .crt to .der to .pem, using openssl and java tools, but its only getting more confusing as I go.

  I want to turn off Firefox autocomplete, but only for specific websites--not for the entire interwebs. My language course has an online workbook, and the autocomplete keeps giving me the answers if I need to re-do an exercise. The tutorials I've found online all tell me to clear out my form history. I don't want to do this. I just want autocomplete to not work for a specific set of websites, or alternately turn it off temporarily. How can I do this?

• Need advise on linking apache and tomcat

  I have been searching this for hours with no luck. I have a web server that uses https on Apache2. I also have installed tomcat7 on the same server to run some Java webapp on it. I need to keep my https port 443 on Apache but forward the requests to the Java webapp to tomcat. I tried to use mod_jk to redirect the requests to tomcat but I failed. Most tutorials talk about redirecting plain http requests not https. I also could not let tomcat use https on 8443. I'm following the steps here but facing errors. The question: Can I redirect https traffic to tomcat without installing https on tomcat? Is there a good tutorial you can recommend to me?

  Hi Guys, I'm new to linux server. I'm currently trying to get an Ubuntu 10.10 server up and running for the first time and I'm using Webmin for administration. I'm stuck on the setting up the firewall. What I need to do is to ONLY allow a range of IPs (e.g 128.171.21.1 - 128.171.21.100) to access the HTTP server and Webmin.   I have the following 2 links, I'm not great with .htaccess rules yet. Old URL: http://www.mywebsite.org.uk/donate/donate.php?charity_id=885&project_id=18111 New URL: http://new.mywebsite.org.uk/donation/to/885/18111 I want all the traffic coming from the old URL to the new url (including the parameters charity_id & project_id). • Recover a Parallel Desktop 3 virtual machine in VirtualBox

  I have an old HDD image file that was used with Parallels Desktop 3. Ideally I'd like to use it in VirtualBox (conversion). In all the tutorials I found (like this one or that one) the VM must be started: there's the problem. I don't have the machine where Parallel 3 was installed anymore. I tried installing the trial version of the last version of Parallels (9) but it seem it doesn't offer the possibility to import an old VM. So here's the question: Given I can't boot the VM with Parallels Desktop, is there a way to convert the image file to another format that is bootable in VirtualBox? If it changes anything, the host is MacOS X 10.9, the guest is Windows XP.

Obviously this is either not true or I'm missing something. Googling hasn't brought up any new insights (besides that 'BC' can also stand for 'British Columbia'). Do you see my error? Better yet, do you know any good references/tutorials to bc?

• Why can't I install MySQL on my computer?

  I have read a lot of tutorials, but I am still having problems. What I tried: I downloaded mysql-5.5.9-winx64. All that I read says that I can run Setup.exe, but there is no such file in the download. The other option I know there is, is including \mysql-5.5.9-winx64\bin in the PATH variable and then trying to execute the mysql command. When I do that, the error I get is: ERROR 2003 (HY000): Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' (10061) I then downloaded mysql-5.5.9-winx64.msi, which is easier to install, but once I followed the instructions and it was installed, I got the same error executing the mysql command. How can I use MySQL? EDIT: I've now removed everything I installed, and I want to start from scratch.

I want to remote desktop connection to my friend over the internet, but I don't have premission for port forwarding on the router, and my friend also can't configure his router. • Windows 7 - add item to 'New' context menu

  I've installed Access 2010 but have some software that can only handle the old .mdb files. When I right click an empty space in a folder and select 'New', I would like to create an .mdb file instead of .accdb. I've managed to remove the "New Access Database" that created a new .accdb file, but I can't find how to create a context menu item to make a new .mdb file. I've tried: Windows 7 - Add an item to 'new' context menu http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/22001-new-context-menu-edit-desktop.html However I've had no luck, nothing appears in the 'New' menu. Any ideas?

• Is there any trick to join and use Windows 8/8.1 with Samba 4 (4.1.6)?

  It seems that Samba doesn't like at all. I've followed various tutorials and I can't get Windows 8 to work properly with a Ubuntu Server as domain controller. This week i've downloaded ubuntu 14.04 lts and set a fast domain configuration. As usual all other Windows version (XP and 7) work but the newest M$ nightmare doesn't. In this try it doesn't even join the domain, keeps saying the my username or password are wrong. • Jail user to home directory while still allowing permission to create and delete files/folders

  I'm trying to give a client SFTP access to the root directory of their site on my server (Ubuntu 10.10) so they can manager their website themselves. While I have been successful in jailing a user to a directory and giving them SFTP access; they are only allowed to create and delete new files in sub directories (the directories they own). This means that I must give them access to the parent directory to the root of their site. How can I limit them to the root of their site (for example public_html) while still allowing them the ability create and delete files. All the tutorials I have read suggest that the root must be the owner of the user's home directory, which prevents them from write access inside that directory. I'm relatively new to managing my own server so any advice would be very grateful. Many thanks.

• Opening notebooks

  I have a Compaq CQ40 which has a defective CPU fan, it seems unable to cool the notebook enough at this time, it is constantly running, and if you move the pc up/down to look under it, it makes some sort of chainsaw sound. I have tried to take out all the screws underneath, but I still have a problem with the plastic cover on the above; I am afraid I might break it since it seem to be connected with plastic clips underneath. I have fixed notebooks before, but this one seem new, how can I open the plastic cover above without breaking it? Any advice, tips and tricks would be so nice to have, not only for this notebook, but any future notebook also I might need to repair. It would be nice if anyone here knows a place with video tutorials on this subject as well.

The latest php version is indeed installed in /usr/local/bin The problem is that my $PATH variable is the following (doing an echo $PATH reveals it) : /usr/local/mysql/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/opt/X11/bin ...so the old version of php (that comes with mountain lion) always run first Any ideas on how to solve this?   3 room mates share a single 2 Mbps connection. Have a 40GB per month download limit beyond which speed drops to 256Kbps which is annoying. One of the roommates abuses the connection by downloading beyond his quota limit. I have a Netgear WNR1000v2 Wireless router + ADSL Modem to connect to the internet. We all access internet via Wireless router which connects to ADSL Modem. I need a free proxy solution which can help me set 40GB / 3 (13 GB) limit for each person (every person has 2 devices - a PC and a phone with Wifi) Uniform Bandwidth control - when 2 people browse the internet they should get 1 Mbps each, and when 3 people access, they should get 2Mbps divided by 3. After each person crosses their monthly download limit, they should be able to access the internet with 256Kbps speed only or lesser. Can I have a custom firmware on my wireless router do this (or) Do I need a proxy server ? Please point me to any relevant tutorials (for example with Squid).

  This maybe more of a Linux specific question but... I've been reading many tutorials and it seems that you can use JavaScript, Python, and C++ to write code for the Beaglebone Black(BBB). It looks like the way C++ interfaces with the BBB hardware is via reading/writing text files on the OS while Python has it's own library. All the C++ examples out there control the GPIO and PWM via reading/writing to text files. Is this the only way to access the hardware or just how Linux does drivers?

  Installing linux/windows through pxe works smoothly for me. But downloading images(especially windows) is a headache. Let alone the time, bandwith usage is horrible. And p2p tech comes to my mind.   I'm trying to set up my own vps hosting. It wont be a paid service, just an experiment for me and some nerdy friends. What I'd like to be able to do is this: Run multiple virtual servers on 1 external IP. These servers can run anything from Minecraft servers to simple http servers. They will also need to be accessible thru SSH. What I don't get is how I can address these servers using domain names. I've done some research and found out that I could use Vhosts with Apache. However this only applies to http servers. It was also suggested I'd use a reverse proxy(squid) but this also only applies to http requests. I could just use different ports for different servers, but thats not ideal and not what I want. Can someone suggest a setup? Maybe some tutorials or anything.

  I installed XAMPP on Ubuntu, and its running without any of its files. Well, not really, but it sure seems that way. I followed the directions on the Apache Friends website to the letter. XAMPP works fine, it's sample apps run like a charm. But I have no idea how it is running. The installation should have created an otf folder, or a XAMPP folder, or an htdoc file according to the tutorials. But there is no trace of any of these files or folders anywhere in the file browser. Are there any linux utilities as good as the Windows Explorer that can find my missing files? I particularly need to find the var/www folder to put my .php files in.

  I am a bit confused with the abundant tcpdump tutorials on internet. I am having a few of the virtual machines running on a virtualization server.Where I am debugging a problem.Port 53 is the one in problem. I have a bridged setup where out of 4 LAN cards on the machine in question one is active and it is xen-br0 I want to check if there is any request coming on port 53 on the server by other machines on LAN in question. I also want to see if the guest operating systems on LAN or any other machine is sending traffic at port 53.Due to abundant messages being generated via tcpdump I am finding it difficult to grep the output at desired port. So how can I use it if some one can give an example that would be helpful. Thanks in advance.
