  • How to remove an entry from Chrome's Remembered URLs from the url bar?

    - by cmcculloh
I've got a url in Chrome "local.mysite.com" that autopopulates when I start typing "local.my" into the URL bar. Note that this URL DOES NOT EXIST in my browser history (at chrome://history/#e=1&p=0) because it isn't a real site and therefor couldn't ever be successfully visited and therefor never shows up in my history. The URL I want is "local.mysite.com/subdir/". That URL is like 3 down in the suggested results because I keep accidentally hitting "enter" when it auto-suggests the unwanted first URL and thus re-enforcing it's assumption that that is the one I want. How do I get rid of the "local.mysite.com" entry in Chrome's memory?

  • How to condense a path in C++ using Boost?

    - by pdillon3
Does Boost offer a simple way to condense a path such as /foo/bar/../bar or /foo/../. into the absolute path it refers to. /foo/bar/../bar -- /foo/bar /foo/../. -- / The goal is to combine base_path and rel_path with boost::filesystem::complete(rel_path, base_path) into a path into /foo/bar/with/no/dots. thanks

  • How can one make the title bar text/buttons have better contrast on dark colors in Windows 8?

    - by zeel
When Windows 8 color setting are set to a very dark color, such as black or navy blue, the title bar text and the minimize/maximize buttons are nearly invisible. This makes dark colors difficult to work with. In Windows 7 there was an advanced color options, this is gone in 8. The registry keys associated with this seem to still be present, but they have no effect. Is there a way to change this? Or a third party application that can do it? I don't want to use the ugly high contrast theme, I want to use the nice Win 8 theme with a dark color.

  • How to quickly start Programs like "regedit.exe" from the Windows 7 search bar using substring matching?

    - by Palmin
The search bar in Windows 7 is very convenient to quickly start applications by pressing the Win-key and then entering the name of the application. For applications with a Program Menu entry like Firefox, it is sufficient to type Fire and Firefox will be displayed in the Programs section of the search results. For other applications like regedit.exe, I have to type the full command regedit before the correct choice regedit.exe appears. Is there any way to have regedit.exe appear already when I have just entered a substring? Please note: I have seen Add my applications to Vista’s Start Search, but I don't want to add anything to the Start Menu manually. This question is about if there is some configuration that can be tuned to make the results appear. I have also seen Search behavior of Windows 7 start menu, but my problem is not that the exe appears under Files, regedit.exe correctly appears under Programs, but it should appear already for a substring match.

  • How to hide action bar before activity is created, and then show it again?

    - by Ilya Izhovkin
I need to implements splash screen in my honeycomb app. I use this code in activity's onCreate to show splash: setContentView(R.layout.splash); getActionBar().hide(); and this code to show main UI after some time: setContentView(R.layout.main); getActionBar().show(); But before onCreate is called and splash appears, there is small amount of time when action bar shown. How can I made it not to show? I tried to apply theme to activity without action bar: <item name="android:windowActionBar">false</item> but in that case getActionBar() always returns null and I found no way to show it again.

  • Is this technically thread safe despite being mutable?

    - by Finbarr
Yes, the private member variable bar should be final right? But actually, in this instance, it is an atomic operation to simply read the value of an int. So is this technically thread safe? class foo { private int bar; public foo(int bar) { this.bar = bar; } public int getBar() { return bar; } } // assume infinite number of threads repeatedly calling getBar on the same instance of foo.

  • XmlSerializer construction with same named extra types

    - by NoizWaves
Hey, I am hitting trouble constructing an XmlSerializer where the extra types contains types with the same Name (but unique Fullname). Below is an example that illustrated my scenario. Type definitions in external assembly I cannot manipulate: public static class Wheel { public enum Status { Stopped, Spinning } } public static class Engine { public enum Status { Idle, Full } } Class I have written and have control over: public class Car { public Wheel.Status WheelStatus; public Engine.Status EngineStatus; public static string Serialize(Car car) { var xs = new XmlSerializer(typeof(Car), new[] {typeof(Wheel.Status),typeof(Engine.Status)}); var output = new StringBuilder(); using (var sw = new StringWriter(output)) xs.Serialize(sw, car); return output.ToString(); } } The XmlSerializer constructor throws a System.InvalidOperationException with Message "There was an error reflecting type 'Engine.Status'" This exception has an InnerException of type System.InvalidOperationException and with Message "Types 'Wheel.Status' and 'Engine.Status' both use the XML type name, 'Status', from namespace ''. Use XML attributes to specify a unique XML name and/or namespace for the type." Given that I am unable to alter the enum types, how can I construct an XmlSerializer that will serialize Car successfully?

  • Query to find all bars that sell three different beers at the same price

    - by Eternal Learner
Query to find "All bars that sell three different beers at the same price?" My Tables are Sells(bar, beer, price) - bar - foreign Key.. Bars(name, addr) - name primary key. I thought of something like this but that dosent seem to work ... Select A.bar As bar , B.bar as bar From Sells AS A, Sells AS B Where A.bar = B.bar and A.beer <> B.beer Group By(A.beer) Having Count(Distinct A.beer) >= 2 Is this the correct SQL query ?

  • Name lookup for names not dependent on template parameter in VC++2008 Express. Is it a bug?

    - by Maciej H
While experimenting a bit with C++ templates I managed to produce this simple code, for which the output is different, than I expected according to my understanding of C++ rules. void bar(double d) { std::cout << "bar(double) function called" << std::endl; } template <typename T> void foo(T t) { bar(3); } void bar(int i) { std::cout << "bar(int) function called" << std::endl; } int main() { foo(3); return 0; } When I compile this code is VC++2008 Express function bar(int) gets called. That would be the behaviour I would expect if bar(3);in the template body was dependent on the template parameter. But it's not. The rule I found here says "The C++ standard prescribes that all names that are not dependent on template parameters are bound to their present definitions when parsing a template function or class". Am I wrong, that "present definition" of bar when parsing the template function foo is the definition of void bar(double d);? Why it's not the case if I am wrong. There are no forward declarations of bar in this compilation unit.

  • How can I use multithreading in a Windows Forms application to update a progress bar?

    - by Steve Syfuhs
There are two objects. The Windows Form with a button and a progress bar, and another object that handles an algorithm. In the algorithm object there is an event, and a property. The event is ProgressChanged, and the property is Progress (which is an int). In the calling window, the button starts off a set of steps in the algorithm object. As each step (or substeps) occurs, the ProgressChanged event fires, and in the window there is an event handler that essentially increments the progress bar relative to the Progress property. The problem I am running into is that because the algorithm has a possibility (and high liklihood) of running a relatively long time, I need to move it into it's own background thread and push the event back up to the window. My issue is that I'm not completely sure what I'm doing when it comes to multi-threading. I've looked at Control.Invoke and I'm a little lost. Can someone point me in the right direction?

  • JSON can't read, key reading fail maybe

    - by Abdullah Al Mubarok
    I wonder why I can't read the JSON Object like this : { "1":{"bulan":"Januari","tahun":"2012","tagihan":"205000","status":"Lunas"}, "2":{"bulan":"Februari","tahun":"2012","tagihan":"180000","status":"Lunas"}, "3":{"bulan":"Maret","tahun":"2012","tagihan":"120000","status":"Lunas"}, "4":{"bulan":"April","tahun":"2012","tagihan":"230000","status":"Lunas"}, "5":{"bulan":"Mei","tahun":"2012","tagihan":"160000","status":"Lunas"}, "6":{"bulan":"Juni","tahun":"2012","tagihan":"150000","status":"Belum Lunas"}, "panjang":6 } with my android code like this : try { int length = jobj.getInt("panjang"); for(int n = 0; n < length; n++){ String m = Integer.toString(n) JSONObject row = jobj.getJSONObject(m); String bulan = row.getString("bulan"); String tahun = row.getString("tahun"); String tagihan = row.getString("tagihan"); String status = row.getString("status"); HashMap<String, String> map = new HashMap<String, String>(); map.put("bulan", bulan); map.put("tahun", tahun); map.put("tagihan", tagihan); map.put("status", status); list.add(map); } } catch (JSONException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } It always return nothing, but it works fine if I change the key m to specific key like if String m = "1"; and I can't use JSONObject row = jobj.getJSONObject(n); because getJSONObject() just accept string, not int. is there something wrong with my code?

  • delegating into private parts

    - by FredOverflow
Sometimes, C++'s notion of privacy just baffles me :-) class Foo { struct Bar; Bar* p; public: Bar* operator->() const { return p; } }; struct Foo::Bar { void baz() { std::cout << "inside baz\n"; } }; int main() { Foo::Bar b; // error: 'struct Foo::Bar' is private within this context Foo f; f->baz(); // fine } Since Foo::Bar is private, I cannot declare b in main. Yet I can call methods from Foo::Bar just fine. Why the hell is this allowed? Was that an accident or by design?

  • Ruby hash value truthiness and symbols

Could somebody please explain why the variable named foo remains true in the code below, even though it's set to false when the method is called? And why the symbol version behaves as expected? def test(options = {}) foo = options[:foo] || true bar = options[:bar] || :true puts "foo is #{foo}, bar is #{bar}" end >> test(:foo => false, :bar => :false) foo is true, bar is false I've only tried this using Ruby 1.8.7.

  • best scala idiom for find & return

    - by IttayD
This is something I encounter frequently, but I don't know the elegant way of doing. I have a collection of Foo objects. Foo has a method bar() that may return null or a Bar object. I want to scan the collection, calling each object's bar() method and stop on the first one returning an actual reference and return that reference from the scan. Obviously: foos.find(_.bar != null).bar does the trick, but calls #bar twice.
