    On MDN, the phrase "Add-on Manager-enabled XUL" is introduced. By dragging a XPI file containing an add-on and dropping it onto a FireFox window, the addon's widgets will be installed in FireFox's add-on bar. By specifying the commandline option "-app application.ini" at the root of a chrome-structured directory, Firefox will display XUL using chrome:// protocol. Since MDN makes me think that the two are not mutually exclusive, my question is, "What do I have to do to get Firefox 8.0.1 to display the add-on bar and XUL simultaneously?"

  • why is the address bar black in Google chrome so you cannot see what you're typing ?

    The address bar background color in Google Chrome is black. I cannot see what I'm typing. What's going on? This is a problem when you're typing in a URL you've never used before (so there's no matching history). Type in a URL you've never used before. Imagine someone is giving it to you over the phone. Make a typo somewhere. Use the back arrow to go back and correct it. You cannot see where the cursor is. This just started happening yesterday. I'm on WinXP Pro.

  • Is it worth setting pointers to NULL in a destructor?

    Imagine I have a class that allocates memory (forget about smart pointers for now): class Foo { public: Foo() : bar(new Bar) { } ~Foo() { delete bar; } void doSomething() { bar->doSomething(); } private: Bar* bar; }; As well as deleting the objects in the destructor is it also worth setting them to NULL? I'm assuming that setting the pointer to NULL in the destructor of the example above is a waste of time.

    Just few hours ago FileZilla was working fine. Then, suddenly I started to get this error: Status: Resolving address of ftp.readtypechinese.com Status: Connecting to 69.175.14.60:21... Error: Connection timed out Error: Could not connect to server And it happens with all my sites: Status: Resolving address of edasich.dreamhost.com Status: Connecting to 173.236.223.223:21... Status: Connection established, waiting for welcome message... Error: Connection timed out Error: Could not connect to server I'm using FileZilla 3.5.0 and Ubuntu 11.10. Any suggestions to fix this?   • Our Look at the Internet Explorer 9 Platform Preview

    Have you been hearing all about Microsoft’s work on Internet Explorer 9 and are curious about it? If you are wanting a taste of the upcoming release then join us as we take a look at the Internet Explorer 9 Platform Preview. Note: Windows Vista and Server 2008 users may need to install a Platform Update (see link at bottom for more information). Getting Started If you are curious about the systems that the platform preview will operate on here is an excerpt from the FAQ page (link provided below). There are two important points of interest here: The platform preview does not replace your regular Internet Explorer installation The platform preview (and the final version of Internet Explorer 9) will not work on Windows XP There really is not a lot to the install process…basically all that you will have to deal with is the “EULA Window” and the “Install Finished Window”. Note: The platform preview will install to a “Program Files Folder” named “Internet Explorer Platform Preview”. Internet Explorer 9 Platform Preview in Action When you start the platform preview up for the first time you will be presented with the Internet Explorer 9 Test Drive homepage. Do not be surprised that there is not a lot to the UI at this time…but you can get a good idea of how Internet Explorer will act. Note: You will not be able to alter the “Homepage” for the platform preview. Of the four menus available there are two that will be of interest to most people…the “Page & Debug Menus”. If you go to navigate to a new webpage you will need to go through the “Page Menu” unless you have installed the Address Bar Mini-Tool (shown below). Want to see what a webpage will look like in an older version of Internet Explorer? Then choose your version in the “Debug Menu”. We did find it humorous that IE6 was excluded from the choices offered. Here is what the URL entry window looks like if you are using the “Page Menu” to navigate between websites. Here is the main page of the site here displayed in “IE9 Mode”…looking good. Here is the main page viewed in “Forced IE5 Document Mode”. There were some minor differences (colors, sidebar, etc.) in how the main page displayed in comparison to “IE9 Mode”. Being able to switch between modes makes for an interesting experience… As you can see there is not much to the “Context Menu” at the moment. Notice the slightly altered icon for the platform preview… “Add” an Address Bar of Sorts If you would like to use a “make-shift” Address Bar with the platform preview you can set up the portable file (IE9browser.exe) for the Internet Explorer 9 Test Platform Addressbar Mini-Tool. Just place it in an appropriate folder, create a shortcut for it, and it will be ready to go. Here is a close look at the left side of the Address Bar Mini-Tool. You can try to access “IE Favorites” but may have sporadic results like those we experienced during our tests. Note: The Address Bar Mini-Tool will not line up perfectly with the platform preview but still makes a nice addition. And a close look at the right side of the Address Bar Mini-Tool. In order to completely shut down the Address Bar Mini-Tool you will need to click on “Close”. Each time that you enter an address into the Address Bar Mini-Tool it will open a new window/instance of the platform preview. Note: During our tests we noticed that clicking on “Home” in the “Page Menu” opened the previously viewed website but once we closed and restarted the platform preview the test drive website was the starting/home page again. Even if the platform preview is not running the Address Bar Mini-Tool can still run as shown here. Note: You will not be able to move the Address Bar Mini-Tool from its’ locked-in position at the top of the screen. Now for some fun. With just the Address Bar Mini-Tool open you can enter an address and cause the platform preview to open. Here is our example from above now open in the platform preview…good to go. Conclusion During our tests we did experience the occasional crash but overall we were pleased with the platform preview’s performance. The platform preview handled rather well and definitely seemed much quicker than Internet Explorer 8 on our test system (a definite bonus!). If you are an early adopter then this could certainly get you in the mood for the upcoming beta releases!   • Why Hebrew letters in the address bar break the ARR gateway (Only With Explorer 8,9,10)?

    The ARR is working great in all browsers except Internet Explorer 8,9,10. When I paste Hebrew URL directly to the address bar it's working good, but when I surf (click on a simple href URL) from one Hebrew URL page to another Hebrew URL the ARR return me that error: "502 - Web server received an invalid response while acting as a gateway or proxy server." There is a problem with the page you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed. When the Web server (while acting as a gateway or proxy) contacted the upstream content server, it received an invalid response from the content server. I checked it number of times including with HTTP analyzer and I saw that the "referer" is making all the problems and cause to that error. For example when I enter to that page: mydomain.com/somehebrewchars (mydomain.com/???? you will need Hebrew install) And click in the page on a link to: mydomain.com/somehebrewchars2 (mydomain.com/???????? you will need Hebrew install) I will get the error above and when you look at the referrer you will see something like that: mydomain.com/עמוד-× ×—×™×ª×” We use other proxies application to others projects and we don't have the same issue like that. For this example we used WIN 2008 and 2012 with ARR 2.5 and also 3 beta. Any help is welcome :-) Thanks, Noam

  • Can Safari 5.1 for Mac OS display favicons for bookmarks in the Bookmarks Bar?

    When bookmarking a web site, most contemporary browser will display the site's favicon next to the bookmark, both in the bookmark view and the bookmark toolbar. This is a useful feature. In the bookmark toolbar you can edit the name of the bookmark to be blank, effectively leaving the favicon there as an easily identifiable "button" from which to launch the bookmark. This allows you to make more effective user of the space in the bookmark toolbar. I use this approach effectively in Firefox, Chrome, and IE. For example, here is a portion of my Bookmarks Toolbar from Firefox: However, in Safari, no favicon is ever displayed for bookmarks. In the full bookmark view only a generic globe icon is displayed. In the Bookmark Bar in Safari, no icon at all is displayed. Which means the habit of removing the bookmark name & leaving the favicon is useless. Here's what the same configuration (synced between browsers via Xmarks) looks like in Safari. That blank space is where the favicons should be. The boomark is there -- if you hover over it, the blank space changes color to indicate the presence of a bookmark and a tool tip will with the URL will pop up after about two seconds. However, it's really quite unusable. So. The question: is there an extension, plug-in, or modification of some sort that will enable the display of favicons for bookmarks in Safari (OS X Lion 10.7.3 , Safari version 5.1.3)?

  • iTunes Title Bar is Equal to the Location of the Library file?

    I have never been able to get a clear answer on why the latest edition of iTunes does this. I have my entire iTunes library located in C:\itunes\ and the library data files inside C:\itunes\!library_info for backup purposes. However when version 9 of iTunes came out it went from having iTunes as the title, to !library_info. Anyway to get around this without moving my data files away? Annoying "feature" if that is what it is. Again Apple support and forums were of no help to me. Anyone have insight on this?     I am having a problem opening port 21 on my Linux Ubuntu server. No matter what i do, i can not get my status to change from closed to open.     I had a little bit of budget left at year end and I wanted to start a little skunk works project to display build status what everyone was working on (our team is aobut 10 folks all told). I am thinking to buy a 47" LCD HD TV and drive it from a small pc via a browser/.NET web application. I was going to build the software over the christmas break since we are closed for 2 weeks starting this Friday. I thought I would solicit advise/feedback on what other teams had done. a lot of the tools we use SVN, Mantis have RSS feeds that I was thinking to render. Is this the way to go ? Treeview shows all folders. if user clicked on treenode their files all displayed in gridview. If user checked some files and selects another node and return back it should display checked files as it is. How do i maintain grid-view checked-box column status..? One more query If i checked specific node it should checked all rows of a gridview.

  • Why are Views loaded from nibs being placed 20 pixels down from the status bar?

    I am trying to set up a layout as such in an iPad application. It will have three major views, which make up the whole screen. The views will be stacked one on top of the other, each taking up the full width. I have one major nib file which accounts for the entire screen space. In that nib file, I am instantiating the three view controllers with outlets. Then I have this code: - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; [self.view addSubview:controllerOne.view]; [self.view addSubview:controllerTwo.view]; [self.view addSubview:controllerThree.view]; } This adds the views on top of one another and 20 pixels lower. However, after rotating to landscape and back they are right under the status bar. Do you know what would be causing this?

    Hello, I am using jQuery ajax, and it worked very well until I tried the site in Google Chrome. I am directed to the success handler. However, when I printed the status of the XMLHttpRequest, I got a 0. The responseText is empty as well. This only happens in Google Chrome. I tried the same code on Safari, Firefox, and Opera, they are worked correctly. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi, I just found out that spamassassin skips checking for email bigger than 250KB by default. Due to a coding bug, I check for the X-Spam-Status header in incoming emails and did not take into account the fact that it might be null. I know that I can increase the size of the limit by configuration but it may cause a load issue on my server. Since I do not want to redeploy my application at this time I was wondering if there is a way to make sure this header exists automatically in every email, either by spamassassin configuration or by postfix or something else. NOT the moral issue. -- for example. at the google search webpage. before I click the link, the link does not indicate the google url. but After I click the link with shift-key, the url on the status bar is changed. this mean the google webpage indicate 'Fake URL'. the google compressed script is too difficult to read and analyze. # edited The second url should work on ie8 even if I click with ctrl key.
