  • Looking software for making an animated cartoon to present a new application/scenario idea [closed]

    I have an idea for an application (+usage scenario) and I would like to create an animated cartoon that shows a use case for this application and its novelty. My company is a rather big so I am looking for an interesting way to get people know my idea to get feedback/get a green light to further develop it. Therefore I am looking for an application (free or commercial) that I could use to realize such an animated cartoon. I have posted this quesion before on stackoverflow, but I think this might be a better community to ask such a question.

  • TDD, new tests while old ones not implemented yet

    I am experimenting with test-driven development, and I found that I often come to a following situation: I write tests for some functionality X. Those tests fail. While trying to implement X, I see that I need to implement some feature Y in a lower layer of my code. So... I write tests for Y. Now both tests for X and Y fail. Once I had 4 features in different layers of code being worked on at the same time, and I was losing my focus on what I am actually doing (too many tests failing at the same time). I think I could solve this by putting more effort into planning my tasks even before I start writing tests. But in some cases I didn't know that I will need to go deeper, because e.g. I didn't know the API of lower layer very well. What should I do in such cases? Does TDD have any recommendations?

  • Moving 11.10 complete system to a new bigger Harddisk

    I would like to move my current installation of Ubuntu 11.10 to a bigger harddisk, since the old one is failing. I would like to avoid solutions like dd block copying (since there would be unused space at the end) with something cleaner, but I'm open to suggestions. Partitions info: Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on Partition type Encrypted 19G 9.9G 7.6G 57% / ext4 59G 50G 6.2G 90% /home ext4 Yes What is the best way to accomplish such a task, preferably with advantages/disadvantages.

  • Dash home button in unity5 of new ubuntu 12.04lts

    If I click on the dash home icon nothings come up. It's as if it's not responding, but just above the dash home icon, I can see close, minimize and restore buttons. I have tried all the links present in this forum, so please don't suggest these: sudo apt-get install --reinstall unity unity --reset pkill -f unity-applications-daemon None of those worked. I am facing this problem after upgrading to 12.04 LTS.

  • Skillset improvement in coming new year

    Here is a little background information. I have been working for Java 10 years. The product I am working on went to live about 3 years ago. Now, the product is getting stable. After all the post-product drama, I gained a lot of knowledge about Oracle & SQL. People(mainly management) were desperated enough to give me deep oracle-related task over DBAs. I admit I considered becoming DBA but eventually decided to remain as a programmer. DBAs & Management are demanding all the DB & Query related task back to DBA, which makes me a bit sad. In short, I anticipate a lot of time next year. What would you do to improve your skillset?? I am thinking to upgrade my Java version(Not from experience though, we are using JDK1.5) to 1.6 getting certificate. Any good idea from fellow developers?? -----------Edit --------------------- How about data modeling for application? Do you guys think it is developer role??

  • New Horizon

    I have resigned from Oracle and thus will soon leave the GlassFish group. I feel very proud looking back at what we've achieved as a team with GlassFish in the past few years, including those past two years at Oracle. If you know anything about the history of application servers at Sun, you'll recognize that building such a community around GlassFish and its amazing number of downloads is nothing short of a small miracle. The Java EE platform has also seen a strong resurgence, bringing it back to the forefront of effective enterprise Java development in many ways. Having been hired by Sun some 13 years ago to sell NetDynamics I certainly feel that I leave the company's application server in *much* better shape. Oracle has ambitious plans for GlassFish and has been in my opinion a good steward for this community. I see no reason for this to change and I do expect the community to keep on pushing Oracle to get even better with time. This ride has been intense and the people I've met and worked with, both inside and outside Sun/Oracle, have made the experience the best one of my career. I didn't realize I was so popular!Well, I've obviously since abandonded this blog and don't really want to maintain a blog in 2 locations now that I am getting back into it. (At least, not at this time - if I can figure out how to cross-post things may change...) This change is now online for several high-use CRM products.
