• error executing aapt, all of the sudden

  I know there are a lot of these topics around but none seem to help in my case, nor describe it exactly. The best similar one is aapt not found under the right path. My problem is that I can be using Eclipse for a whole evening programming, compiling and using my device, and then suddenly I get "error executing aapt" for my current project and ofcourse R.java isn't (properly) generated anymore. I then restart Eclipse and everything goes away. I'm seeing this once a day on average however. I've recently switched to amd64 and installed the latest Android-2.3 SDK and matching tools. I know that there is now a platform-tools folder that has an aapt version that should work SDK version independently. At first I had added this directory to my PATH, as instructed on the SDK website. I've also tried not adding it to my path and making a link platforms/android-9/tools so that every SDK version might use it's own old copy. Needless to say, platform-tools/aapt is there and has the right permissions, and I have been able to execute it on the command-line at any time. When I do write a faulty xml file or sorts, and appropriately get an error, I see an extra line that says "aapt: /lib32/libz.so.1: no version information available". I'm running a recent Gentoo linux system. I have everything installed to support x86 on amd64, but have re-emerged emul-linux-x86-baselibs and zlib just to be sure. The problem persists. I do see some pages that spell horror over some zlib bugs, but I'm not sure if that's related. I realize I'm not on the reference Ubuntu platform, but surely the difference cannot be that great? It might very well be a bug in aapt or the tools itself. Why would it suddenly stop working? I also experience that the ids in R.java were incorrect, namely that simple findViewById() code would give ClassCastExceptions because of mixed ids the one time, and then work perfectly without any changes bu only a "clean project", in the aftermath of a failing aapt. Does it smell like a bug perhaps (otherwise let's report it (again))? Update 2010-01-06: I've gained some more knowledge. When I recently was trying to export a signed apk, I ran into another error message (full details from the Eclipse error view) regarding aapt I hadn't seen before. Note here too, that I can just restart Eclipse and can export apks again without problems, at least for a little while. I'm starting to think it is related to lack of memory on my system. The message "onvoldoende geheugen beschikbaar" means "insufficient memory available". I have also been seeing insufficient memory errors in DDMS when I'm dumping HPROF files. • WPF Validation with ContentPresenter

  Hi, I have a WPF user control which needs to validate some fields. It is bound to a class implementing IDataErrorInfo. When I set the user control as the content of my ContentPresenter in another, already open, window, I can see validation occurring, and error messages being returned, however, I don't get any validation adorner - e.g. the default red outline. If I enter the field and leave it (triggering re-validation) the validation adorner appears. Also, if I show the user control in it's own window it shows the validation adorner immediately. (I'm using Caliburn IResults to do this underneath, e.g. Show.Dialog<VM>(); but I suspect this isn't related) Can anyone offer any suggestion why the validation adorners aren't appearing immediately. (I had guessed animation on my ContentPresenter ContentChanged, however, I have removed this and still experience the problem. thanks, Chris

• Adding existing entity to navigation property of a different entity

  I'm using EF4 and I'm running into a problem when I try to do something that looks quite trivial to me. I have two entities, let's call them A and B. These entities have a many-to-many association between them with a navigation property on A that contains a list of related B entities. What I want to do is to add existing B entities to a new A entity. When I try to do that, I get an exception: AcceptChanges cannot continue because the object's key values conflict with another object in the ObjectStateManager. Make sure that the key values are unique before calling AcceptChanges. Has anyone run into such a problem?

• SQL 2008 Database tuning advisor won't start

  For some reason I can't get DTA to connect to my development machine. It connects to a remote DB just fine but when I point it to my dev machine I get an error saying: Failed to initialize MSDB database for tuning (exit code: -1073741819). I'm pretty sure it's not a permissions issue since I've used profiler to capture what it's doing and all of the commands it's run so far look fine and are being run under my account which is associated with the sysadmin role, when I run them in sql management studio they go through fine. I'm pretty convinced that the problem is related to creating the objects in MSDB that are used by DTA but I tried creating these manually (I found scripts on the web) and it just seems to push the problem along the line slightly. I'm going out of my mind - have even tried reinstalling SQL but that's not fixed it. I'm using SQL 2008 with SP1 (10.0.2531) on windows server 2008 (patched up to date). SAVE ME!!!!!

• RichFaces rich:insert takes a long time to output large files

  Hello I'm using a RichFaces <rich:insert like this: <rich:panel header="my head"> <a4j:outputPanel ajaxRendered="true"> <rich:insert src="#{MyBacking.myPath}" highlight="groovy" /> </a4j:outputPanel> </rich:panel> If I have a 60k file to output, it takes 23 seconds. I've got a requirement to output the contents of some larger files than that and obviously the larger the file, the larger the wait for content. The recommendation in the answer to another related question is to introduce paging. I will, but the question is, why does it take so long to output 60k of text using JSF/RichFaces? That is, reading off a local disk with Windows XP SP2 PC - I can see from the log the data has already been written to disk from the network. Other scripting languages appear to be faster than this - is it something to do with the JSF lifecycle having to handle the text maybe? Thanks

• Basic Ruby on Rails Question about routing

  I have a controller without any related model. This controller is to span some informations from various models. I have lots of actions there, which define certain views on the page. What would be the best way to organize routes for this controller. What I would like is to have /dashboard/something point to any action in the dashboard controller. Not actions like new/edit but arbitrary (showstats, etc). With trail and error I made something like this: map.dashboard 'dashboard/:action', :controller => 'dashboard', :action => :action Now it is possible to access those url using helper: dashboard_url('actionname') This approch seems to be working ok, but is this the way to go? I am not quite sure understand, how are the helper method names generated. How to generate same helper names as in basic controllers "action_controller_url" ? That would be more generic and made the code more consistent. Thanks in advance.

• I can't make this query work with SUM function

  This query gives an error: select ep, case when ob is null and b2b_ob is null then 'a' when ob is not null or b2b_ob is not null then 'b' else null end as type, sum(b2b_d + b2b_t - b2b_i) as sales from table where ... group by ep, type Error: ORA-00904: "TYPE": invalid identifier When I run it with group by ep, the error message becomes: ORA-00979: not a GROUP BY expression The whole query works OK if I remove the lines sum(b2b_d+b2b_t-b2b_i) as sales and group by ..., so the problem should be related to SUM and GROUP BY functions. How can I make this work? Thanks in advance for your help.

• How do build a composite or template control in ASP.Net MVC, or the equivelant?

  In our current ASP.Net Webforms application we have several composite/template server controls that only exist for a common look and feel. For example, we have a panel control that has a title, a place for buttons related to the contents of the panel, and of course the contents. How is this best accomplished in MVC? RenderPartial doesn't get done what I need here. Should I still be using the same controls, but just on a view page? These controls don't really do anything on postback, they are only there for a common look and feel.

• Android 2.2 AVD: no Quick Search Box?

  I have recently updated my Android SDK to include support for Android 2.2 (API level 8). The app that I'm building integrates with the Quick Search Box (QSB) home screen widget, which I can't seem to find in this version (using both vanilla 2.2 and the Google APIs version). I was kind of excited when they announced that they have improved its functionality, but it seems there's no way for me to observe it. Is this normal? Are others experiencing the same issue? Or is this somehow related to my setup (running Archlinux and installed the Android SDK from the repositories).

• Is it possible to interop with Thunderbird using C#?

  Here's the latest hurdle in my ongoing quest to automate my job: All email in the company goes through 4 different email adresses, switching randomly back and forth (with a note attached in the global share: please set "keep email on server") All logic related to email is contained in a nice big Thunderbird profile, which gets copied back and forth to new machines; this includes sorting invoices into 5 different "folders", the list of VIP adresses to send notifications, and the VIP level of those customers I only need the contents of those folders (the attachments, anyway) The question: is there a way to ask Thunderbird for those attachments and lists from C#? Alternatively, can Outlook be set up to synchronize with Thunderbird? Where do I start reading? Ditching Thunderbird is not an option right now, I need to keep up with changes to the VIP list. P.S. I will set up a real email server right after Monkey saves me enough time to convince people about it.

  I have autotest setup with growlnotify using growl_glue (version 1.0.7): require 'growl_glue' GrowlGlue::Autotest.initialize do |config| config.notification :use_network_notifications => true end growl version is 1.2 each time autotest runs and displays the notification growl popup I also get an OS X firewall popup asking Do you want the application "growlnotify" to accept incoming network connections? I tried answering deny and allow but it still keeps popping up. the deny/allow choice is properly reflected in System Preferences - Security - Firewall - 'application access list', but it still asks every time. update I ended up using autotest-growl gem instead of the growl_glue. it fixed the problem, it was probably related to how growl_glue was calling growlnotify.

• mingw spitting countless warnings about ignoring "dll import" attribute

  I'm using mingw32-make to compile a qt project that uses opengl, it compiles correctly and everything, but it spits countless warning messages of the form: c:/qt3/include/qcolor.h:67: warning: inline function `int qGray(int, int, int)' declared as dllimport: attribute ignored For this particular instance, the function declaration is: Q_EXPORT inline int qGray( int r, int g, int b )// convert R,G,B to gray 0..255 { return (r*11+g*16+b*5)/32; } My question is, why is it spitting all these warning? how can I silence them without silencing other legitimate warnings (i.e. warnings that are related directly to my code and could be potential problems)? More importantly, why is mingw ignoring the dll import attribute in the first place?

  Is there a way in Terminal Services to set limits on memory related parameters for a process. For example working set size and, possibly, if it makes sense, total virtual memory allocation for the session? To turn the question around, we have an application which cannot allocate as much virtual memory running on a terminal server as it can when running on a desktop PC (both I would expect to have a limit of 2GB for user mode address space) and I was wondering if there is another limit for processes or users on a terminal server. Perhaps even 2GB per user rather than per process.

• How do i break a number down into a percentage (0 - 100%)? Details inside...

  I am using a JS progress bar that is set using a percentage: 0 to 100 (percent). I need the progress bar to reach 100% when 160,000 people have signed a certain form. I have the total number of signers set in a PHP variable but am lost on how to do the math to convert that into a percentage that fits within 1 - 100 (so that the progress bar actually reflects the goal of 160,000). I may be missing something obvious here (i suck at anything number-related) so does anyone here have a clue as to how to do this?

• Setting classpath java for use in Runtime.exec

  I am trying to spawn a process using Runtime.exec. I want to use my current classpath : System.getProperty("java.class.path") Unfortunately, I am having all kinds of issues. When it works on my mac, it doesn't work on Windows. And doesn't work on my mac ever when there is a space in the classpath.   I am referencing a COM component from PHP. This COM component returns records using ADO. I am assuming I will need to reference ADO in PHP for this to function. How do I do this? Secondly (related to the first question) I have run accross ADODB abstraction libraries, however these seem to mostly deal with queries and handle the ADO internally. How do I get the returned ADO recordset into a PHP friendly array, and likewise pass in an ADO array to the COM object? Thank you, Josh

I want to perform the inverse: creation of a string from an integer. i.e. I want some function int2base(num,base) such that: int( int2base( X , BASE ) , BASE ) == X the function name/argument order is unimportant For any number X and base BASE that int() will accept. This is an easy function to write -- in fact easier than describing it in this question -- however, I feel like I must be missing something. In Man class, there is a OnClick method that opens a new window showing its name and age. public Man(){ Onclick(){ InfoWindow showinfo = new InfoWindow(this.getid()) // If this is Man[2] the id would be 2. } And in InfoWindow class: public class InfoWindow extends JFrame{ public InfoWindow(Man selectedMan){ setSize(300, 200); JLabel info = new JLabel(selectedMan.getname()); add(info); info.setVisible(true); } } Basically, that's wanna acomplish (show in pseudocode), pass a Man[i] into a class that when a window is created, shows the info related to that man. This is how i'm actualy trying to implement it but it's not working, i'm pretty sure there is a misconception from me in some part. Any help?

  Just installed TFS 2008. Created a project with portal site. When I create a bug in TFS from Visual Studio I'd like to see that bug in the web portal. And the other way around. When I add a task in the web portal I'd like to see that in Visual Studio. It's as if the web portal is not connected to TFS. I'm using the MSF for Agile Software Development template. I just saw Team System Web Access. That's what I want in addition to the other pages Sharepoint portal provides. For example the Wiki page and calendar view. So one place to see all tasks lists and assign task and see other project related pages. Maybe be able to has the tasks due dates come up on the calendar. Many thanks

• Using jQuery to load Telerik MVC scripts.

  I'm busy building my first MVC app that uses the Telerik MVC components. Their docs specify that the ScriptRegistrar helper be called right at the bottom of a view, e.g. "at the end of the master page.". I assume this renders a script block that must only run when the page has loaded. I normally prefer to achieve this using jQuery, and keep all my script related stuff at the top of my master page, preferably in the <head> tag. Is there anything I can do to achieve this with the Telerik components and do away with the lone and forgotten helper call at the bottom of my master page?
