    I am a total newbie to Shell Scripting so please bear with me. I need to create a shell script called script1 that will calculate and then display letter grade of ABC2345. Read in the following grades from keyboard: Assignments 40% Test1 15% Test2 15% Final exam 30% Calculate and display the number grade using the weight of each factor above Convert the number grade to letter grade using the table below: Number Grade Letter Grade 90 - 100 A+ 85 - 89 A 80 - 84 77 - 79 B+ 73 - 76 B 70 - 72 B- 67 - 69 C+ 63 - 66 C 60 - 62 C- 57 - 59 D+ 53 - 56 D 50 - 52 D- 0 - 49 F Any help would be appreciated :) Thank you!

  • How to handle inputs in a C shell program during exec

    I am currently writing my own shell program. This simple shell can just execute commands. When executing commands like vi or calc which require input from the terminal , the command is getting executed and is waiting for the input from the user. But I am unable to give any input on the screen. How should the input be handled during the fork and exec.     I have hit the googles as much as I can on this, being specific to OS X, I am not finding an answer. Nothing is wrong, but curiosity levels are high. $ssh [email protected] Password: Last login: Wed Apr 7 21:28:03 2010 from my-laptop.local ^lonely tylenol^ Line 1 is my command line 2 is the shell asking for the password line 3 is where my question comes from line 4 comes out of /etc/motd I can find nothing in ~/ of an of the .bash* files that contains the string "Last Login", and would like to alter it. It performs some type of hostname lookup, which I can not determine. If I ssh to another host: $ssh [email protected] Last login: Wed Apr 7 21:14:51 2010 from 123-234-321-123-some.cal.isp.net.example hi there, you are on box 456 line 1 is my command line 2 is again, where my question comes from line 3 is from /etc/motd *The dash'd IP address is not reversed On this remote host, I have ~/.ssh and it's corresponding keys set up, so there was no password request Where is the "Last Login:" coming from, where does the date stamp come from, and most importantly, where does the hostname come from? While on [email protected] (box 456) $echo hostname remote.location.example456.com Or with dig, to make sure I have rDNS/PTR set up, for which I am not authoritative, but my ISP has correctly set... $dig -x 123.234.321.123 PTR remote.location.example456.com or $dig PTR 123.321.234.123.in-addr.arpa. +short remote.location.example456.com. my previous hostname used to be 123-234-321-123-some.cal.isp.net.example, which I set with hostname -s remote.location.example456.com, because it was obnoxious to see such a long name. That solves the value of $echo hostname which now returns remote.location.example456.com. Mac OS X, 10.6 is this case, does seem to honor: touch ~/.hushlogin If leave that file empty, I get nothing on the shell when I login. I want to know what controls the host resolution of the IP, and how it is all working. For example, running last reports a huge list of my logins, which have obtusely long hostnames, when they would be preferable to just be remote.location.example456.com. More confusing to me, reading the man page for wtmp and lastlog, it looks like lastlog is not used on OS X, /var/log/lastlog does not exist. Actually, none of these exist on 10.5 or 10.6: /var/run/utmp The utmp file. /var/log/wtmp The wtmp file. /var/log/lastlog The lastlog file. If I am to assume that the system is doing some kind of reverse lookup, I certainly do not know what it is, as it is not an accurate one.

  • Windows 7 Favorite folder doesn't work

    So recently I did a very stupid thing and accidentally deleted my APPDATA (LOL yes), and now the favorite folder doesn't work anymore. The favorite folder I am refering to is the one in windows explorer (not the horrid IE) in windows 7, which appears on the left of windows explorer windows. The %USERPROFILE%/Favorite folder still works correctly, but the favorite folder in the shell doesn't point there, instead it points to a nonexistant and broken location, how do i fix this problem?

  • Find out how many DNS Queries/month via WHM or SSH?

    Is it possible? We have complete control over our DNS server and the server actually being pointed to. We are interested in how many DNS Queries we are currently getting, as we want to move to Ultra DNS, but we need to know how many queries we're likely to get in a month. Is this possible to figure out? Do I need to start a service before tracking begins? Or use shell to access the data?

  • Linux servers going into Halt when pressing Control-D in putty or exit in the shell

    Since today at noon, there's a number of Linux CentOS servers which are going to Halt whenever i type exit or use Control-D to close the putty window. Did anyone encounter this weird behavior before? I've checked the aliases list on the servers and there is no alias regarding halt command. After the server came online i've checked the history and saw a "logout" command there but nothing which is related to Halt. At first, i thought it happens only from my computer but later i realized that it happens to everyone which types exit, logout or control+d. 2 of these server are our main iptables firewalls and so it's super critical, your assistance is much appreciated.     I would like my computer to automatically connect to a WPA2-Enterprise network as soon as it boots whenever the network is available, without any action needed by me. The computer already offers to connect, and even remembers the password, but I must still hit 'Enter' to connect. Also, connection does not occur if my login is at the terminal. I would like to automatically connect every time I login, no matter how I do so, unless a more preferred network is available. What is the best way to do this? I am running Fedora 19. A shell script that can be invoked at the terminal would be preferred. Connecting even if the Gnome-desktop has not launched is a must.

    So when i hibernate my laptop the screen doesn't lock automatically. To solve this i've changed /etc/acpi/powerbtn.sh to contain: su - myUsername -c "gnome-screensaver-command -l" sudo pm-hibernate exit 0 When running this file from a command line it works as intended (ie, lock the screen and then hibernate). Unfortunately, when pressing the power button, it still just hibernates without locking the screen -what am I missing? EDIT: I've added the line whoami>>~/Desktop/test.txt to verify which user is executing the /etc/acpi/powerbtn.shscript. When pressing the power button, the file test.txt is created, but is empty. From this i conclude that the script is in fact being called when pressing the power button. What i do not understand is how the output of whoami can be empty...

  • Migrating users and mailboxes from postfix / Maildir to Postfix with Mysql backend

    So I've got 60 or so users on a hand rolled postfix installation on openbsd and I'd like to move their mailboxes to our new mail server running iRedMail (postfix, vmail/mysql back end) Does anyone know of a good way to do this? Preferably a script I can run to keep syncing the users mailboxes as MX records get updated? I presume one way (though I don't have all their passwords!) would be to have a command line imap client that simulated the users copying their mail themselves but I'm sure there must be a shell / php script to migrate users?
