  • App crashes when adding array data to table cells

    - by bassmandan
    I am trying to create a table view that loads a number of tweets into the table (one per cell etc). I am using NSXMLParser to get the information and have got as far as creating an array with the selection of tweets that I want. However, when I try to add them to the table cells, the app crashes on the line: cell.textLabel.text = cellValue; An NSLog before this shows in the console that the app is getting the correct data, so I am a bit stumped as to why this isn't working. This is the block of code that appears to be having the problem: - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { static NSString *CellIdentifier = @"Cell"; UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier]; if (cell == nil) { cell = [[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier]; } // Set up the cell... NSString *cellValue = [statuses objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]; NSLog(@"%@", cellValue); cell.textLabel.text = cellValue; return cell;} If it makes a difference, I am using ARC and the latest version of XCode. I'm still quite new to all this, so if I need to give some extra information, let me know. Thanks in advance. Edit: Backtrace gives the following: * thread #1: tid = 0x2003, 0x918a19c6 libsystem_kernel.dylib`__pthread_kill + 10, stop reason = signal SIGABRT frame #0: 0x918a19c6 libsystem_kernel.dylib`__pthread_kill + 10 frame #1: 0x9968ff78 libsystem_c.dylib`pthread_kill + 106 frame #2: 0x99680bdd libsystem_c.dylib`abort + 167 frame #3: 0x03c93e78 libc++abi.dylib`_Unwind_DeleteException frame #4: 0x03c9189e libc++abi.dylib`_ZL17default_terminatev + 34 frame #5: 0x0154df4b libobjc.A.dylib`_objc_terminate + 94 frame #6: 0x03c918de libc++abi.dylib`_ZL19safe_handler_callerPFvvE + 13 frame #7: 0x03c91946 libc++abi.dylib`std::terminate() + 23 frame #8: 0x03c92ab2 libc++abi.dylib`__cxa_throw + 110 frame #9: 0x0154de15 libobjc.A.dylib`objc_exception_throw + 311 frame #10: 0x013bdced CoreFoundation`-[NSObject doesNotRecognizeSelector:] + 253 frame #11: 0x01322f00 CoreFoundation`___forwarding___ + 432 frame #12: 0x01322ce2 CoreFoundation`_CF_forwarding_prep_0 + 50 frame #13: 0x0015168f UIKit`-[UILabel setText:] + 56 frame #14: 0x00003088 Twitter`-[TwitterViewController tableView:cellForRowAtIndexPath:] + 376 at TwitterViewController.m:131 frame #15: 0x000ace0f UIKit`-[UITableView(UITableViewInternal) _createPreparedCellForGlobalRow:withIndexPath:] + 494 frame #16: 0x000ad589 UIKit`-[UITableView(UITableViewInternal) _createPreparedCellForGlobalRow:] + 69 frame #17: 0x00098dfd UIKit`-[UITableView(_UITableViewPrivate) _updateVisibleCellsNow:] + 1350 frame #18: 0x000a7851 UIKit`-[UITableView layoutSubviews] + 242 frame #19: 0x00052301 UIKit`-[UIView(CALayerDelegate) layoutSublayersOfLayer:] + 145 frame #20: 0x013bde72 CoreFoundation`-[NSObject performSelector:withObject:] + 66 frame #21: 0x01d6692d QuartzCore`-[CALayer layoutSublayers] + 266 frame #22: 0x01d70827 QuartzCore`CA::Layer::layout_if_needed(CA::Transaction*) + 231 frame #23: 0x01cf6fa7 QuartzCore`CA::Context::commit_transaction(CA::Transaction*) + 377 frame #24: 0x01cf8ea6 QuartzCore`CA::Transaction::commit() + 374 frame #25: 0x01d8430c QuartzCore`+[CATransaction flush] + 52 frame #26: 0x000124c6 UIKit`-[UIApplication _reportAppLaunchFinished] + 39 frame #27: 0x00012bd6 UIKit`-[UIApplication _runWithURL:payload:launchOrientation:statusBarStyle:statusBarHidden:] + 1324 frame #28: 0x00021743 UIKit`-[UIApplication handleEvent:withNewEvent:] + 1027 frame #29: 0x000221f8 UIKit`-[UIApplication sendEvent:] + 68 frame #30: 0x00015aa9 UIKit`_UIApplicationHandleEvent + 8196 frame #31: 0x012a6fa9 GraphicsServices`PurpleEventCallback + 1274 frame #32: 0x013901c5 CoreFoundation`__CFRUNLOOP_IS_CALLING_OUT_TO_A_SOURCE1_PERFORM_FUNCTION__ + 53 frame #33: 0x012f5022 CoreFoundation`__CFRunLoopDoSource1 + 146 frame #34: 0x012f390a CoreFoundation`__CFRunLoopRun + 2218 frame #35: 0x012f2db4 CoreFoundation`CFRunLoopRunSpecific + 212 frame #36: 0x012f2ccb CoreFoundation`CFRunLoopRunInMode + 123 frame #37: 0x000122a7 UIKit`-[UIApplication _run] + 576 frame #38: 0x00013a9b UIKit`UIApplicationMain + 1175 frame #39: 0x0000239d Twitter`main + 141 at main.m:16 frame #40: 0x00002305 Twitter`start + 53 Debugging console shows this: 2012-04-08 10:10:05.084 Twitter[25309:f803] ( { text = "Have you shared the Shakedown yet? http://t.co/WHrIC9w7"; }, { text = "For all you closet rocknrollas pencil in Sat 12th May The Rebirth of Rock n Roll Party.   • Load NSAttributedString from File

    - by Wayfarer
    Is there a way to have some sort of rich text in a file, and load the file into an NSAttributedString? I looked into loading a .rtf file into an NSAttributed String: NSString *filePathFooter = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:kFooterFileName ofType:@"rtf"]; NSError *error = nil; NSAttributedString *string = [[NSAttributedString alloc] initWithFileURL:[NSURL URLWithString:filePathFooter] options:nil documentAttributes:NULL error:&error]; But this leaves me with: Error Domain=NSCocoaErrorDomain Code=258 "The operation couldn’t be completed. (Cocoa error 258.)" Is there a way to do this?

  • Using ModalAlert from cookbook - app does not load

    - by user127091
    I'm using iphone cookbook code to prompt a user for text in a UIAlertView. The cookbook code is available at http://github.com/erica/iphone-3.0-cookbook-/tree/master/C10-Alerts/03-Soliciting%20Text/ In my AppDelegate, applicationDidFinishLaunching(), I invoke as below NSString *str = [ModalAlert ask:@"what is your name?" withTextPrompt:@"ATTUID"]; But my app does not finish loading at all. I get a black screen indefinitely. There are no messages in the console. I tried creating just a UIAlertView with UITextField in the above function and it displays properly. (commenting out her code) Commenting out "CFRunLoopRun()" also loads the app. I'm probably doing something stupid but can't seem to figure it out.

  • Using (void)awakeFromNib

    - by MN
    I am trying to run an action when the application starts. The action checkAtStart is supposed to display an alert if there is no text in field1 and hide startView if there is text in field1. checkAtStart works fine if assigned to a button, but when I try to run it using (void)awakeFromNib, the alert will display no matter what and startView will never hide. Its probably something really simple that I'm forgetting. Any help is appreciated! Here is my code: - (void)awakeFromNib { [self checkAtStart:self]; } - (IBAction)checkAtStart:(id)sender { if (field1.text == nil || [field1.text isEqualToString:@""]) { NSString *msg = nil; msg = nil; UIAlertView *alert = [[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle:@"Test Message" message:@"Test Message" delegate:self cancelButtonTitle:@"Close" otherButtonTitles: nil]; [alert show]; [alert release]; [msg release]; } else { startView.hidden = YES; } }

  • Parser line break if string contains &#8211;

    - by pask
    Hi all, My NSXMLParser breaks on this string: <title>AAA &#8211; BCDEFGQWERTYUIO</title> I parsed it in this way, hope is the right way: - (void) parser: (NSXMLParser *) parser foundCharacters: (NSString *) string{ [...] if ([currentElement isEqualToString:@"title"]) { if (![string isEqualToString:@""]) { [title addObject:string]; NSLog(@"str: %@", string); } } it returns me: str: AAA str: - str: BCDEFGQWERTYUIO But i want to return a single string: str: AAA - BCDEFGQWERTYUIO because it's the correct title. Any idea? Thanks.

  • Can I update an iOS Enterprise App in the background like an App Store app can?

    - by lehn0058
    I have an iOS enterprise app that we are wirelessly distributing to our devices. Currently the app polls our server once a day to see if there is an app update. If there is, we try to install it by having the app call the following code: NSURL *installUrl = [NSURL URLWithString:[NSString stringWithFormat:@"itms-services://?action=download-manifest&url=%@", plistUrl]]; [[UIApplication sharedApplication] openURL:installUrl]; This causes the app to prompt the user with an alert dialog to install the update. If they click install, the app closes and the update is downloaded and installed. I am wondering if there is anything for enterprise apps for iOS 7 similar to the AppStore's automatic updates? I would like to be able to update our app without the user having to press an update button and be able to update at a time when the user won't have to wait for it to install.

  • Comparison between pointer and integer (cocoa)

    - by Cal S
    Hi, I'm just learning cocoa (coming from C#) but I'm getting a strange error for something that seems really simple... (charsSinceLastUpdate=36) #import "CSMainController.h" @implementation CSMainController //global vars int *charsSinceLastUpdate = 0; NSString *myString = @"Hello world"; // - (void)applicationDidFinishLaunching:(NSNotification *)aNotification { ... } //other functions - (void)textDidChange:(NSNotification *)aNotification { NSLog(@"charsSinceLastUpdate=%i",charsSinceLastUpdate); if (charsSinceLastUpdate>=36) { // <- THIS line returns the error: Comparison between pointer and integer charsSinceLastUpdate=0; [statusText setStringValue:@"Will save now!"]; } else { charsSinceLastUpdate++; [statusText setStringValue:@"Not saving"]; } } //my functions - (void)showNetworkErrorAlert:(BOOL)showContinueWithoutSavingOption { ... } // @end Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

  • Save UIView's representation to file.

    - by fish potato
    What is the easiest way to save UIView's representation to file? My solution is, UIGraphicsBeginImageContext(someView.frame.size); [someView drawRect:someView.frame]; UIImage *image = UIGraphicsGetImageFromCurrentImageContext(); UIGraphicsEndImageContext(); NSString* pathToCreate = @"sample.png"; NSData *imageData = [NSData dataWithData:UIImagePNGRepresentation(image)]; [imageData writeToFile:pathToCreate atomically:YES]; but it seems tricky, and I think there must be more efficient way to do this.

  • Objective-C Custom extend

    - by ryanjm.mp
    I have a couple classes that have nearly identical code. Only a string or two is different between them. What I would like to do is to make them from another class that defines those functions and then uses constants or something else to define those strings that are different. I'm not sure if "___" is inheritance or extending or what. That is what I need help with. For example: objectA.m: -(void)helloWorld { NSLog("Hello %@",child.name); } objectBob.m: #define name @"Bob" objectJoe.m #define name @"Joe" (I'm not sure if it's legal to define strings, but this gets the point across) It would be ideal if objectBob.m and objectJoe.m didn't have to even define the methods, just their relationship to objectA.m. Is there any way to do something like this? If all else fails I'll just make objectA.m: -(void)helloWorld:(NSString *name) { NSLog("Hello %@",name); } And have the other files call that function (and just #import objectA.m).

  • Is it possible to have a sound play before/during the splash screen?

    - by Jeff
    My app takes a few seconds to load and I have a splash screen. Once "viewDidLoad" I have a little sound play. I feel that the sound would be in better use if it started playing when the splash screen popped up. Is it possible to have a sound start before/during the splash screen? Here is my code: (under viewDidLoad) NSString *soundFilePath = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource: @"intorSound" ofType: @"aif"]; NSURL *fileURL = [[NSURL alloc] initFileURLWithPath: soundFilePath]; player = [[AVAudioPlayer alloc] initWithContentsOfURL: fileURL error: nil]; [player setVolume: soundVolumeValue]; // available range is 0.0 through 1.0 [player play]; [fileURL release]; Thank you for your time!

  • Why is my UIViewController initializer never called?

    - by mystify
    I made a view-based project from a fresh template. There's a UIViewController which is created with an XIB. In the implementation I uncommented that and added an NSLog. But this is never called: // The designated initializer. Override to perform setup that is required before the view is loaded. - (id)initWithNibName:(NSString *)nibNameOrNil bundle:(NSBundle *)nibBundleOrNil { if ((self = [super initWithNibName:nibNameOrNil bundle:nibBundleOrNil])) { // Custom initialization NSLog(@"nib"); } return self; } since that is initialized from a nib / xib, that should be called for sure, right? however, it doesn't. I do get an NSLog message when I put that in viewDidLoad.

  • Programatically get own Phone Number in iPhone OS 4.0

    - by sandy
    I am developing an iPhone application for jail broken phones and in this application I would like to fetch user's phone number. I have gone through the entire stackoverflow.com and found some relevant answers but all of them are obsolete and doesn't work with iOS 4.0 anymore. The most famous solution for this problem is NSString *num = [[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] stringForKey:@"SBFormattedPhoneNumber"]; but as I mentioned this solution no more works with iOS 4.0 As my application is intended towards the jail broken phones and not intended the Apple app store so I am not worried about my app rejection, hence any private API will also work for me. Also please let me know if we can fetch IMSI number from SIM using any private APIs of iPhone

  • Common views in viewControllers - Code re-usability

    - by Nitish
    I have few common views in most of my viewControllers. What I noticed is that I can reuse single code for all viewControllers which is absolutely wise. For this I decided to create a class Utils which has static methods like +(void)createCommonViews:(float)yAxis:(NSString*)text; In my case common views are three labels and two images. Problem : I am not able to add these views from Utils. I am wondering how can I send self as a parameter so that I may add the views from Utils. It may be wrong to add views outside the viewController. In that case what can be the solution? Taking all these views in a UIView, setting return type of Utils method as UIView and then adding UIView to viewController(after calling method from viewController) might solve my problem. But what I am looking for is some other solution. Thanks, Nitish

    I'm trying to save a UIImageView image to a png file, and then use that file as a GLTexture. I'm having trouble with this, when I try to run my code in the simulator, XCode says it succeeded, but the simulator crashes with no error messages. Can someone help me with this? Here is my code: NSString *dataFilePath = [NSHomeDirectory() stringByAppendingPathComponent:@"Documents/Picture.png"]; NSData *imageData = UIImagePNGRepresentation(imageView.image); [imageData writeToFile:dataFilePath atomically:YES]; // Load image into texture loadTexture("Picture.png", &Input, &renderer);

  • How to observe NSScroller changes?

    - by Paperflyer
    I have an NSScrollView subclass and I would like to update another NSView based on the current scroll position. I tried KVC-observing the value of [self horizontalScroller] but that never gets called. // In awakeFromNib [[self horizontalScroller] addObserver:self forKeyPath:@"value" options:NSKeyValueObservingOptionNew context:NULL]; // Later in the file - (void)observeValueForKeyPath:(NSString *)keyPath ofObject:(id)object change:(NSDictionary *)change context:(void *)context { if (object == [self horizontalScroller] && [keyPath isEqualToString:@"value"]) { // This never gets called } } Do you see an error in my reasoning or know a better method of how to observe the scrolling of an NSScrollview?

  • objectWithFieldNAme Best Practice for CoreData

    - by Rafael
    Hello, I'm trying to implements some methods for my CoreData models and I'm wonndering if the way I'm doing it is a good practice. I want to implement methods of the type getObjectsWithFieldName. This methods could be used by severals views. So the way I'm doing it is implementing a Class method in the model in the following way: +(NSArray *)getObjectWithFieldName:(NSString *)fieldName andContext:(NSManagedObjectContext *) context; Is this a good practice? Or there is another way to do it for iPhone Development? Thanks in advanced.

  • Returning NSNull from actionForLayer:forKey

    - by MrHen
    If I implement the CALayer delegate method actionForLayer:forKey I can return [NSNull null] to force the CALayer to not animate any changes. Unfortunately, [NSNull null] doesn't implement the CAAction delegate and XCode kicks out the following warning: warning: class 'NSNull' does not implement the 'CAAction' protocol Here is the method code: - (id<CAAction>)actionForLayer:(CALayer *)theLayer forKey:(NSString *)theKey { //This disables the animations when moving things around //Also, don't animate the selection box. It was doing weird things if(undoGroupStarted || theLayer == self.selectionBox) { return [NSNull null]; } else { return nil; } } Am I doing something wrong? Is returning [NSNull null] bad behavior? If so, what is another way to do what I am trying to do here? If not, how do I make the compiler happy?

  • NSURL not instantiating properly

    - by taokakao
    Hi, I am new to IPhone developing. I have got very strange issue with NSURL which is driving me crazy. I want to instantiate NSURL object to use it in loading image. But instantiation never happens in proper way. It always says my url in invalid. Basically I use code like below: NSString *str = @"http://google.com"; NSURL *url = [NSURL URLWithString:str]; but I also have tried a lot of different modifications (with CFStringRef + CFURLCreateStringByAddingPercentEscapes and so on). All of them are not working for me. In debugger url is set to "Invalid". What it could be? I don't think this is algorithmic or environment issue. It could be about some settings? Have anyone any idea of what happens?

  • What is the proper location for a sqlite3 database file?

    - by Elliot Chen
    Hi, Everyone: I'm using a sqlite3 database to store app's data. Instead of building a database within program, I introduced an existing db file: 'abc.sqlite' into my project and put it under my 'Resources' folder. So, I think this db file should be inside of 'bundle', so at my init function, I used following statement to read it out: NSString *path = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@"abc" ofType:"sqlite"]; if(sqlite3_open([path UTF8String], &database) != SQLITE_OK) ... It's ok that this db can be opened and data can be retrieved from it. BUT, someone told me that it's better to copy this db file into user folder: such as 'Document'. So, my question is: is it ok to use this db from main bundle directly or copy it to user folder then use that copy. Which is better? Thank you very much!

  • How to Invoke iPhone Maps for Directions with Current Location as Start Address

    - by eriaac
    Hi all. I know it's possible to start the iPhone maps application by calling openURL on a google maps URL with parameters saddr and daddr with location strings or LatLong (see ex. below), but I'm wondering if it's possible to make the start address be the "Current Location" maps bookmark so that I can use the maps app's location handling code. My Google search has been pretty fruitless. ex: [[UIApplication sharedApplication] openURL:[NSURL URLWithString:[NSString stringWithFormat: @"http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=%@&daddr=%@", myLatLong, latlong]]]; Except with something to invoke the current location bookmark in place of myLatLong. Thanks!

  • sizeToFit label voids align right / set minimum width of label

    - by Deco
    Here is my code I am using to make a label (which contains content of an unknown length) the correct height for the content. (lines is equal to 0) myLabel.text =[NSString stringWithFormat:@"%@", myLabelContent]; myLabel.frame = CGRectMake(myLabel.frame.origin.x, myLabel.frame.origin.y, myLabel.frame.size.width, 800); [myLabel sizeToFit]; The only problem is, it is resizing the width as well as the height. I have two labels side by side, one aligned left, one aligned right. The left aligned one works fine. However, the right aligned one becomes intended (from the right). Because of its width resize, the content always starts at the origin.x position (in effect) because the label is made to be the shortest width required. I hope that makes sense. Is there a way to override or reset the width after auto resize had solved the height problem, or set a minimum width for the label? Many Thanks in advance, Deco
