• Integrating lesser known e-payment gateways full of surprises?

  I've integrated about half a dozen e-payment gateways, from popular ones (like paypal) to not-so popular ones. It seems every time I try to integrate a non-popular epayment gateway, I exceed my original time-estimation. I think I'm a decent programmer, but my time estimations probably needs work. Do other programmers run into many "surprises" when integrating e-payment gateways they've never heard of? Any advice will help. thanks

• What is the most easy way to get in advanced Type Theory.

  Of course, by 'advanced' I mean here just something beyond what every programmer does know. I'm currently more-or-less comfortable with the basics and want to understand the most important, most elegant and most practically applicable achievements of modern type theory. I just do not have much time, desire and mental powers to study all the formalistics more thoroughly and that may change in the future. • What's the difference between logging and printing to the console

  This is kind of a philosophical question. Basically people often ask if I am logging - and since I am not a full time programmer, but someone who programs often but is actually more of a requirements analyst, I don't know all the best practices. I use Java a lot so I often do things like System.out.println() What's the difference in theory between the two? Ultimately aren't I also logging? Esp, if I prefix my comments with something like "ERROR:" or "WARN:" ?

• Which computer assisted translation format should I use for a ColdFusion site?

  I am creating a multilingual site that will need to support at minimum five different languages, including Korean and Chinese. The site language is ColdFusion, so Java is the native language. • What was the single byte change to port WordStar from CP/M to DOS?

  I was re-reading Joel's Strategy Letter II: Chicken and Egg problems and came across this fun quote: In fact, WordStar was ported to DOS by changing one single byte in the code. (Real Programmers can tell you what that byte was, I've long since forgotten). I couldn't find any other references to this with a quick Google search. Is this true or just a figure of speech? • How does porting between Linux and Windows work?

  If a particular piece of software is made to be run on one platform and the programmer/company/whatever wants to port it to the other, what exactly is done? I mean, do they just rewrite linux or windows-specific references to the equivalent in the other? Or is an entire rewrite necessary?
