• How remove/de-index a page from Google?

  On the results page when I Google "e-luminate", the 3rd and 4th link seems to point to specific directory deep within the folders which stores the images. How can I get rid of these 2 results from Google search results? How can I get Google to de-index it? I checked on the server and the folders did not seem different from other folders but these 2 paths seems to get indexed by Google. Thank you.

• Using key().id() on GAE Datastore and reverse geocoding

  I have 6000 data of district, subdistrict. I need to represent this on dependent dropdown. The datamodel is for example; class Location(db.Model): location_name = db.StringProperty() location_parent = db.IntegerProperty() location_parent is reference to key() or id()? Still cannot decide which one is good. When i use key() as reference then using JSON to create jquery dependent drop down. My page loading/query and rendering time the dropdown is quite slow? Can i use key().id() as drop down option value to lighten up the page load? Any better solution for this parent/child reference for the drop down? For example: for the district record/entities the location-parent is null, for sub district record location_name will contain reference to parent district record. Other issue is to reverse geocoding the location to store or display geoPoint (lat,long)? Is google MAP API always find the exact lat,long of specific region boundaries or any error checking for the result?

• Click GEvent.addListener with jquery

  Created a google map with GMap2 and put pinpoints on there that open up a balloon with the address when the pinpoint is clicked. I would like users to be able to click text on the page itself and use jquery to open up the corresponding balloon. However I can't figure out the ID to use to call a jquery click event. Basically I've got a store listing down the left side and when user clicks store name I want it to open up the corresponding balloon. GEvent.addListener(marker_500, "click", function () { map.openInfoWindowHtml(point, myHtml); } Any idea what element tied to this click event is? Tried $("#marker_500").click(); And that doesn't work. Also tried alerting $(this).attr('id'); inside the click function and that is undefined. thanks jason

• How to think in data stores instead of databases?

  As an example, Google App Engine uses data stores, not a database, to store data. Does anybody have any tips for using data stores instead of databases? It seems I've trained my mind to think 100% in object relationships that map directly to table structures, and now it's hard to see anything differently. I can understand some of the benefits of data stores (e.g. performance and the ability to distribute data), but some good database functionality is sacrificed (e.g. joins). Does anybody who has worked with data stores like BigTable have any good advice to working with them?

  I'm using google maps api to have a map show up on my website where visitors can also find directions. I have a starting point setup and an end point. Both are text areas. The start is empty, but I want the end point to be populated with the address from a div that I already have in the page. I have the javascript as: var address = document.getElementById("address").innerText.replace(/\n/g, " "); It works in Chrome, but Firefox shows the text in the endpoint box as 'undefined.' And Firebug is giving me - document.getElementById("address").innerText is undefined [Break On This Error] var address = document.getElementB...ress").innerText.replace(/\n/g, " "); Any help is appreciated. • Windows 7 - User profile corrupted on standby/hibernate

  I have a friend who uses Windows 7 for her home PC. She has a RAID1 array that is using up-to-date Intel Matrix storage drivers, and the entire array is backed up to a separate internal SATA HDD via Acronis True Image every night. Over the weekends, she lets her machine go into suspend after 4 hours of inactivity, and then later into hibernation after 6 hours of inactivity. Her Acronis backup system does nightly incremental backups, and full backups every Saturday night. She also has AVG Free Antivirus installed which does full scans every Monday. So far, on two occasions, on Sunday morning, her user profile is corrupt. I couldn't find any solution that allowed me to repair her profile, so I end up having to (as suggested by MS Knowledge Base, http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/fix-a-corrupted-user-profile ;, Yep, no solution to fixing it, just clobber the whole thing) recreating her profile, then copying over data, recreating her Outlook profile, reconfiguring all third-party applications, etc. It's a real nightmare, and takes 4 hours to do each time. Are there any suggestions on how to resolve this profile corruption? This was happening even before the RAID/Acronis solution was in place, but I thought I'd provide as much information as possible.

• Windows service fails to start with local user until password is entered again in logon tab

  Basically we have a service where we use a local account as its logon. it has all the proper permissions, and everything is working fine, service starts and runs and all is good. Then one day, after rebooting, the service fails to start. Logs show incorrect password. Our technicians resolve the issue by simply retyping the password into the "Log On" tab from the services.msc. Unfortunately we have not been able to root cause. I suspect that the password that is stored for the service is lost somehow. Does anyone know where the password hash might be stored so we can check it? The only activities that seem to be possibly related are patching with Microsoft security patches, but we have multiple servers running the same service, and we have never seen more than one at a time, and its usually a different one each time when this occurrs. • Lost user account for Windows Vista

  Hello, I'm trying to help a friend who's lost her user account in Vista. I know there's supposed to be a way you can boot the computer from the vista installation disc and create an admin account you can later login with, but her installation disc is in Australia and her laptop in London. Is there any other way to get in? Or would it be better to try and access just the harddrive? She's mainly concerned with getting all her data off it. As for how she lost the account, I'll let her explain in her words. :) My computer basically got some virus and now is up sh*t creek. it told me i had this cryptic thingy majiggy was missing and then this fake virus told me i needed to scan my computer. SO i tried to do malware thing but it kept shutting my computer down. ANYWAY...now its it will only open up with 'launch startup repair' and has got rid of my settings for logging in and wants me to be 'other user' which i have no password or username for'...so basically im stuffed. • Memory leak in Google Chrome

  As a developer it is very common for me to have 2-3 different IDE's open, 10-15 google chrome windows which can hold up to 200 open tabs (I know I get out of hand some times), Photoshop, couple twitter bots for promo, and a few other programs but my system still runs fast and smooth. I have an i7 processor with 12gb ram. Now with all my usual stuff running my Physical memory is usually running around 50-60% however over the course of the day or much less even, I will gradually grow to 98% The highest Memory usage processes will be from Google Chrome, if I sort in the task manager by highest memory usage and end the 1 highest process which will be a google chrome one, my memory usage will jump back down to about 60%. Also by ending that 1 process, all my Chrome windows will remain open and in use, so it doesn't affect me at all by ending that process. Based on this research I am assuming that that 1 runaway process is likely the Adobe Flash as I also can say that it gets up to the 98% much faster when I am using flash items like video or music player. But even without using any of them it will still climb up to that high number eventually. Has anyone else experienced similar results?

• A special user does not appear in Windows login screen

  In the list of users (under Local Users and Groups in my Windows 7) I have an ASPNET user (its description says "Account used for running the ASP.NET worker process (aspnet_wp.exe)" and its full name is "ASP.NET Machine Account") The thing is this user does not appear in Windows login screen. What I have found: It is not a "Built-in security pricipal" user It belongs only to Users group I don't have HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SpecialAccounts key in my registry In every sense I can see that it is a normal user yet it does not appear in login screen. Now the questions are: What does make it special? How can I create a user like this?

• User Permissions: Daemon and User

  Hello: I often run into this issue on Linux, and I'd love to know the proper way of solving it. Say I have a daemon running. In my example, I'll use LigHTTPD, a webserver. Some software, like Wordpress, enjoys having read/write access to files for updating applications via a web interface, which I think is quite handy. At the same time, I enjoy being able to hack on my files using vim, using my local user account, 'eddie'. Herein lies the rub. Either I chown everything to lighttpd or eddie and a shared group between them both, and chmod it 660, or perpetually sudo to edit the damned things. The former isn't a bad solution, until I create a new file in which case I have to remember to chmod it appropriately, or create some hack like a cron job that chmods for me. Is there an easier way of doing this? Have I overlooked something? Cheers, -e-

There are times when you need to build something up and you may need more hands to help with coding, but you may also want to keep some secrets to yourself, I'm not saying I have secrets, but I wonder how do they manage their coding. I'm sure there are some ways to do it decently and professionally. The reason why friendster failed was because one of the factors they lost control over their coding part. I think this is an interesting question. But not easy to answer, maybe only a marginal knew.

• IE9 will not navigate to some websites but Google Chrome can

  Was recommended by a friend to ask for help here. I am using Internet Explorer 9. As of two days ago I was suddenly unable to navigate to any part of the following websites: www.computerandvideogames.com www.deviantart.com www.cnet.com However I can still access all of them normally through Google Chrome. I am on a college network but these sites are also accessible through fixed terminals provided by the school and are definitely not blocked. I do not know of any other sites similarly affected. There is no popup, no error message, no diversion to a site telling me I can't access / am blocked etc. I can be on www.google.com and attempt to access these sites through the URL or google search, and my cursor will just show the little moving blue wheel next to the arrow for a couple of seconds, and the page displayed on my browser will not change; ie. not navigating at all. Running antivirus software, changing proxy settings in IE, clearing cookies, unplugging/plugging in computer, restarting PC etc have not changed the situation. Any assistance or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

• Google Desktop Search problems - unable to disable indexing and no index status page

  I've been running Google Desktop (I've used both the regular and Enterprise versions) without issues on my Windows 7 64-bit PC for a long time with no issues. I just paved my PC and reinstalled Google Desktop (regular edition). Initially, I want to use it only for the CTRL-CTRL launcher capability - I don't want it to do any indexing. So I unchecked all the items in the configuration dialog as well as excluded c:. Despite this, it is indexing all the content on my hard drive as well as Outlook email, etc. In my previous installations I had the same options set and they worked properly. The other problem I have is that when you right-click on the Google Desktop system tray icon, there used to be an option for "Index Status" which showed you the percentage complete the index creation process was, as well as an option to clear and rebuild the index. Those are no longer there. I uninstalled the regular edition and installed the Enterprise Edition, but same problems. Any ideas?

• Google Chrome for Mac, CSS colors and display profiles

  So, I'm aware that some browsers correct the colors in images in accordance with system settings, and that browsers differ in how they do this. But I'm very surprised when a color specified in a stylesheet appears different from one browser to another on the same system. With the latest Safari and Firefox, if I draw a div with background: #885500, I get a box with that color (as confirmed by the native DigitalColor Meter app): But when I load the same page in Chrome (Mac version 12.0.742.91) on the same system, a MacBook Pro with the default "Color LCD" display profile set, I get a noticeably different-colored box (DigitalColor Meter reports #a34d00—much more red, a bit less green): I tried a few different color profiles, and found that the color reported by DigitalColor Meter changed under Chrome. It stays constant in Safari. What's going on? Is it that Chrome is adjusting its colors depending on the system's display profile, or is it that Safari and Firefox are doing so? Does this happen under other operating systems, or is it purely a Mac phenomenon? And is there any way, from CSS/JavaScript, to detect/prevent this behavior so that colors are consistent across modern browsers on the same system?

The issue All I get is: Error 136 (net::ERR_PROXY_CERTIFICATE_INVALID): Unknown error. in the window, and something like: [13633:13639:1017/182333:ERROR:cert_verify_proc_nss.cc(790)] CERT_PKIXVerifyCert for localhost failed err=-8179 in the console. Note: this is not the big red warning that complains about insecure certificates. Now, I have to admit that I'm quite n00b for what concerns certificates and such, if I'm missing some fundamental points, please let me know.

• View all users in a specific group in CentOS

  I added a user user01 to a group group01 using: usermod -a -G group01 user01 When I run in command id user01 it shows that this user has actually been added to the group. However, the file /etc/group doesn't reflect this. i.e. I believe that on this file, users that belong to each of the groups should be listed next to it. Please correct me if I am wrong. This is a fresh installation of CentOS 6.4 Also, since id user01 shows that this is updated, is there any way to check all the members of group group01?

• Google Webmaster tools and geotargeting at TLD and Folder levels

  Hoping you can help us with this question: We are one Canada’s leading websites with a PR8. For privacy's sake, let's call our main URL www.OurMainWebsite.com As we are expanding globally, we are planning to build a web site to service the US market but want to keep the domain above as is from branding perspective. Questions: Can we keep: www.OurMainWebsite.com as the main Canada site and create a www.OurMainWebsite.com/US as the US site? Can those 2 URL's be geotargetted as per above, and wouldn't the fact that US is a subfolder of the main TLD through things off? can I target a TLD to one country and a subfolder under the TLD to abother? • Google not indexing new forum

  We installed a new forum a few months ago now. The URL is: https://www.scirra.com/forum I've 301'd the old topics/threads, as well as included all the new URLs in the sitemap. Yet they still are not appearing. Webmaster tools is showing: 139,512 URLs submitted 50,544 URLs indexed And has been stuck there for quite some time. A massive drop in indexed pages since we updated the forum as well: Any help much appreciated

• Spreadsheet functions to query route planner for travel time/distance

  I would like to achieve something whereby I have a spreadsheet such that the columns are: Column A - place name Column B - place name Column C - distance by road between places in columns A and B Column D - travel time by road between places in columns A and B I thought it might be possible using Google Docs' spreadsheet and its 'Google' functions, but I've not found any that might do the trick. In the end I could knock up an app to do it using the Google Maps API but would rather avoid it if I can.

  Can someone please advise me what is the possible solution of using GAE to make a Client/Serer Application? As far as I know, GAE is designed to do web applications. What I want to do is to have a Java Client(Swing based) deployed on a number of computers and deploy the server on GAE. I found an example on GAE website which teaches how to make a SOAP service using GAE, but I don't know whether using SOAP is a good idea for client/server applications. Can someone give me some hints about how to design this system and what technology should be used? Any advices are welcome. Many thanks.

  We have an issue with User Profile Sync in SharePoint 2010 when the following happens: A new user is added to AD (ie DOMAIN\jdoh) The user is synched successfully to SharePoint Time passes The user's account name is changed in AD (ie because it was originally misspelled: DOMAIN\jdoe) The user is re-synced to SharePoint The behavior appears to be that the account name is not changed. In the above example, accountname will continue to be DOMAIN\jdoh in SharePoint, though other properties are synced correctly- I would assume by SID. This means that the users' my profile and mysite links still refer to the 'old' name (ie Person.aspx?accountname=Domain\jdoh). What steps should be taken to fix this in SharePoint when an account name is changed in AD?
