• Handling Dialogs in WPF with MVVM

  In the MVVM pattern for WPF, handling dialogs is one of the more complex operations. As your view model does not know anything about the view, dialog communication can be interesting. I can expose an ICommand that when the view invokes it, a dialog can appear. Does anyone know of a good way to handle results from dialogs? I am speaking about windows dialogs such as MessageBox. One of the ways we did this was have an event on the viewmodel that the view would subscribe to when a dialog was required. public event EventHandler<MyDeleteArgs> RequiresDeleteDialog; This is OK, but it means that the view requires code which is something I would like to stay away from.

  I have the following class: public class UserGroup { public string GroupName { get; set; } public bool IsIntheGroup{ get; set; } } I want to bind an ObservableCollection of UserGroup items to listbox containing checkbox’s for each item in the collection and the checkbox is cheked based on the IsIntheGroup property of the UserGroup. I think listview can help me in this regard but don't know how to implement. i figured out that each row of listview should have 2 textbox, 1 combobox and few textblock or label. I have a WPF application, in each of my usercontrols / windows I am currently putting the following code in xaml in the header... xmlns:properties="clr-namespace:MaxCut2.Properties" This particular properties namespace I use in every window / usercontrol in my project and I would have thought that if I had put the code in my App.xaml, it would have been exposed to all the child windows/uc's - but it doesn't seem to work. Is there a way that I can expose this without having to declare it in every file in XAML?

• How to manage toolbars with mvvm and WPF

  I'm looking for a smooth method of managing toolbars (and menus) with mvvm in WPF. Consider an UI with tabbed workspaces and heterogenous content (like Visual Studio). There the toolbars should be hidden or visible depending on the active tab. How would you design the view viewmodel for the toolbars? I'd use a collection of toolbar-viewmodels and bind the ToolbarTray to it, but afaik that's not possible. Any recommendations are apreciated. Links to samples, best practice papers, etc. are welcome.

• Embed Icons into WPF Application as Resource

  I am trying to embed an icon into my my WPF application so that I can pull it out for use as an icon in the Window 7 JumpList using the following code: newScene.IconResourcePath = System.Reflection.Assembly.GetEntryAssembly().Location; newScene.IconResourceIndex = 0; I've gotten it to work using the following method: http://dennisdel.com/?p=38 However, it doesn't seem like the best approach and it seems like there should be an easier way to embed an icon resource into my application while still leaving the "Icon and Manifest" option checked in the Application properties for my program. I've tried numerous methods including setting the icon build action as a resource and an embedded resource, but every time I open my .exe in a resource editor, the icon does not appear. Any suggestions?

  I have a custom font family embedded in my WPF application which I can reference by specifying a base URI and font family name. new FontFamily(new Uri("pack://application:,,,/Fonts/"), "./#My Custom Font Family"); However, when I copy a selection which uses this font the xaml on the clipboard resembles the following <Run Text="Foo" FontFamily="./#My Custom Font Family" /> When I paste into the same RichTextBox I lose the font as it falls back to the system default because - When a FontFamily is specified as an attribute in markup, the base URI value is always implied—its value is the URI of the XAML page. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.windows.media.fontfamily.aspx and my xaml page is not located in the same directory as the custom font family. Any ideas for a workaround?

• [WPF] Drag and drop between 2 popups

  Our application is a WPF (4.0) AppBar docked to the top of the desktop. Various buttons in the AppBar produce Popups containing various data (in ListBoxes). I am trying to implement drag and drop of items between 2 Popups. It's pretty standard boiler plate stuff using Josh Smith's draggable ListBox that I've used half a dozen times before. Drag is initiating correctly, but the target Popup is not receiving the DragOver or Drop. Is this a focus issue? Or is there something else at work here?

• WPF TextBlock Overflow Text to the Left

  As background I have a very long ID that too long to display in the given area of the TextBlock. The interesting portion of the ID is the end, that is the rightmost portion. What I would like to do is have the TextBlock, rather than the text overflowing right and cutting off the rightmost portion, overflow left and cutoff the leftmost portion. That is given the ID 123456 and a TextBlock with enough space to hold four characters, to get the TextBlock to display 3456 rather than 1234 as it does by default. I could manually trim my ID for display, but given a variable spaced font that's not ideal. So is there someway to get WPF do change the overflow direction?

• WPF: How to efficiently update an Image 30 times per second

  Hello, I'm writing a WPF application that uses a component, and this component returns a pointer (IntPtr) to pixels of a bitmap (stride * height). I know in advance that the bitmap is a 24bits rgb, its width and height. Updating the Image control with these bitmaps makes up a video to the user, but I'm not sure what's the most efficient way to do that, most of the time the CPU usage goes to 75%+ and memory changing from 40mb to 500mb and the nI think GC starts to work and then it drops again to 40mm. The app starts to not be responsive. What shoud I do? thanks!

• WPF application in obj directory doesn't work.

  When I build my WPF application the exe that ends up in the bin directory works just fine, but the one in the obj directory does not. When I Debug the exe from the obj directory I get the following exception: TypeInitializationException was unhandled: The type initializer for 'MyProject.App' threw an exception. So basically I'm wondering why the obj exe doesn't work while the bin one does (I was under the assumption that the obj exe was just copied to the bin) and how to fix it. The reason that I even care is because I'm using Wix to create a MSI for my application and I have a Votive project setup that uses var.MyProject.TargetPath which points to the exe in the obj directory.

• WPF webbrowser - get HTML downloaded?

  I'm listening to the WPF webbrowser's LoadCompleted event. It has some navigation arguments which provide details regarding the navigation. However, e.Content is always null. Am I paying attention to the wrong event here? How can I fetch the HTML that was just downloaded as string? I tried some things which I would consider hacks, but they return a string of HTML, even though that was not the string downloaded. For instance, with that method when I go to a page which just sends me the string abc, I get the result <document><body>abc</body></document> or something similar. I would prefer not getting into any more hacks than nescessary to get this running.

• Is there a more efficient way to retrieve tables from websites using wpf + webclient

  new to the community, but here is my first question that I am stuck on. I am new to WPF and WebClient using c# and I am attempting to make a program that access www.nba.com to populate a combobox I have with team names, and then when a user selects a team from the combobox, I wanted to populate a portion of the main window with the roster from the teams home site, same style and eveything. I was able to populate the combobox using the WebClient.OpenRead and reading in the markup to extract the team names. Now I am on the more difficult part. I was planning on using the same method to grab all the markup and then somehow display the table in a content panel, but I feel that this is a very tedious thing to do. Can anyone give me any tips for completing this action or is there a method in the webclient class that allows me to search a webpage for a table or object other than text? Thanks.

  I am writing a Tetris clone in WPF. If I hold down the right arrow key, the current piece shifts right. For playability, I want to allow the user to press another key (i.e. F-key) and rotate the moving piece without having to let go of the right arrow key first. Currently when I do this, the piece stops shifting. My first basic attempt at this was hooking into Window_PreviewKeyDown(object sender, KeyEventArgs e) and then sending a message to the controller layer.   As we can see in Photoshop layer window (or other image editting tool also), it has several features: groups with folder-like header (collapse/expandable) ungroupped item (no header) sort "manually" by dragging. In case of No 1, I made groupped item with expander control. • WPF: Convert memory stream to BitmapImage?

  I have an image that was originally a PNG that I have converted to a byte[] and saved in a database. Originally, I simply read the PNG into a memory stream and converted the stream into a byte[]. Now I want to read the byte[] back and convert it to a BitmapImage, so that I can bind a WPF Image control to it. I am seeing a lot of contradictory and confusing code online to accomplish the task of converting a byte[] to a BitmapImage. I am not sure whether I need to add any code due to the fact that the image was originally a PNG. Can anyone provide the code to convert the stream to a BitmapImage? Thanks for your help.

• Strange WPF Behaviour With WCF Async calls

  I have a WPF application calling WCF via Async calls. The application has four tabs in which each are loaded from seperate async calls, each tab has a busy indicator. The problem: When running within Visual Studio I can click a refresh button on each tab and each tab's busy indicator starts and the data is retrieved from the WCF service. As each tab's data comes back it is refreshed. When I deploy the application via one click the application's UI hangs after only two tabs start refreshing. So in this case I press refresh on tab one, then on tab two and the application hangs until one of the two tabs data comes back. I thought at first that it was something to do with the WCF service throtteling and that was not the case as both the Visual Studio and the One Click deployments of the application point to the same service. Anyone have any ideas on where to look? I cannot reproduce the hang issue within Visual Studio?

  I have a WPF application with many tabs.. in one tab.. i make a verycomplex vector drawing consisting of thousands of drawing visuals.. (this represents a machine and all elements need to be interactable..) It takes 3/4 seconds for drawing this for the first time..After the first draw it should be done.. The problem is if i switch to another tab and comeback, it takes atlease 2,3 seconds to show the tabpage with drawing again.. Since there is no redraw, why should it take so much time..?

  Hey all, I have a listbox of items that I am using, and I have a button I made which scrolls up and down, but the only problem is, that you have to click every single time you want to scroll up and down a bit.   I'd like to create a dropdown panel in WPF the acts like a ComboBox/Expander hybrid. I'm currently using an Expander but it pushes the the controls underneath it down when it expands. I simply want it to act like a ComboBox and overlay it's dropdown. I've looked at using Popups but they don't move with the underlying window if it's moved. • Decentralized Chat feature in C#/WPF?

  What are some options for implementing a chat feature in a C#/WPF desktop application? Is it possible to do this without a central server? I have a desktop app and 1 user may be logged in at one time or 50 users may be logged in. I would like to add a chat feature that will allow them to talk to each other without relying on a central server. If I do have to use a central server, I assume that WCF would be the best option?
