• Passing arguments between classes - use public properties or pass a properties class as argument?

  So let's assume I have a class named ABC that will have a list of Point objects. I need to make some drawing logic with them. Each one of those Point objects will have a Draw() method that will be called by the ABC class. The Draw() method code will need info from ABC class. I can only see two ways to make them have this info: Having Abc class make public some properties that would allow draw() to make its decisions. Having Abc class pass to draw() a class full of properties. The properties in both cases would be the same, my question is what is preferred in this case. Maybe the second approach is more flexible? Maybe not? I don't see here a clear winner, but that sure has more to do with my inexperience than any other thing. If there are other good approaches, feel free to share them. Here are both cases: class Abc1 { public property a; public property b; public property c; ... public property z; public void method1(); ... public void methodn(); } and here is approach 2: class Abc2 { //here we make take down all properties public void method1(); ... public void methodn(); } class Abc2MethodArgs { //and we put them here. this class will be passed as argument to //Point's draw() method! public property a; public property b; public property c; ... public property z; } Also, if there are any "formal" names for these two approaches, I'd like to know them so I can better choose the tags/thread name, so it's more useful for searching purposes.   I am using EF4 with Visual Studio 2010. I have a SQL database already created and all my columns are documented with the Description property in SQL management studio. When I create the edmx in Visual Studio, how can I make it read those descriptions and use them to add comments to my generated classes? I know I can use the Summary and LongDescription in the edmx properties but I'm looking for a way to do this without having to copy and paste every description. Thanks!

• SQL Alter Table to Add a Column, does it do anything "scary"?

  I need to add a column to an existing table in my live sql database. I know how to use the ALTER command, but what I want to know is the effect this has on the table. For example,, if using SQL Management Studio, it claims that adding a column will "drop and recreate" the table. Will the ALTER table command do that as well? This table is CONSTANTLY accessed and VERY important so I want to make VERY sure of this before going forward.

  I have an Ubuntu Server 12 virtualbox guest running on a Windows 7 host which has a dynamic IP (and I don't wanna change this considering it's a laptop and I'm changing network frenquently). I want to have a static IP for my VM and a SSH access from my host but I still want to have the internet access on my VM. I tried added a second host only adapter and configured /etc/network/interface to set eth1 to a static ip, but I can't connect via SSH to it. Setting only adapter1 to host only works for SSH and static IP but I lose the internet access.

  Modern browsers such as Firefox and Chrome are able to shutdown and restore the same group of tabs they had before the next time you open them, and even sometimes remember additional tab state such as scroll position within the tab. I would like ideally to be able to select a group of tabs (about some coherent theme, perhaps) and save them away into some kind of "folder" that I could later open independently, without opening any other tabs. Obviously I can use bookmarks for this, but bookmarks are kind of old-fashioned. It would be excellent if it could also record forms that I had filled in but not submitted, scroll position, tab position within the tab group, and any other "dynamic" aspects of the current tab state.

  Hi, Here is the case: I have created a test application which simply loops to load a same url for 1000 times by using HTMLLoader class from Adobe AIR. What I found is that the memory of this app keeps rising. So is this expected? I mean it's the same URL although it get loaded for 1000 times. Does the AVM create 1000 objects behind the scene?
