• Do you use a grid system when designing a web page?

  I'm trying to figure out why I would use a grid system. I have read some but I just don't get it. I'm used to just putting stuff in html on a page and beind done with it but I have a new project and would like to use a grid because apparently it is a best practice. I read in one article referenced in another SO question and it said that grid design was in all sorts of development, even application form design. That made me think of things like snap to grid, etc. and I didn't know if the grid in the web design sphere was the same. I was hoping someone could give me a brief but not overly complicated view and not a link to Google which I have used already. Thank you for any help.

• How to reference an object in a lower fragment in android

  I am trying to build a help screen that is going to go on a mediaplayer. The idea is to put a fragment with a transparent theme on top of the current view. (See How do I create a help overlay like you see in a few Android apps and ICS? for the basic idea). Now, I understand the steps in the mentioned link, but how do I connect the circles and arrows and paragraphs next to each one (explaining what each one was) to the lower object? Example, I have an object: R.id.music_button and I want there to be and arrow that points to music button. Trying to support as many devices as we do it will be very difficult to just draw a few pictures as part of the top layout and expect them to line up. Again, how do I reference an object on a fragment below the top level? Thanks

  We have a Asp.Net Webform page which contains a GridView inside UpdatePanel and refreshes every minute. And every one minute we get the following error in Event log. Error Message:Unable to validate data. Stack Trace: at System.Web.Configuration.MachineKeySection.GetDecodedData(Byte[] buf, Byte[] modifier, Int32 start, Int32 length, Int32& dataLength) at System.Web.UI.ObjectStateFormatter.Deserialize(String inputString). We have tried the following. Adding a static machine key in the Web.Config. (Did not work?) Disabling the View State Mac in the Web,.Config using following entry. (Did not work) <pages buffer="true" enableViewStateMac="false"> Is there something else that might cause this?

• Detect numbers and process them ?

  Hi, I am trying to detect the numbers written on a grid and then process them using the iPhone camera. What i have found till yet are some good examples like: http://blog.damiles.com/?p=93 http://cmgresearch.blogspot.com/2010/01/augmented-reality-on-iphone-how-to_01.html Although I am able to draw the numbers on the overlay view to a good extent but still not able to detect what these numbers are. What I don't wanna do is to go through the whole AI process: training the system, providing the system whole set of values and then process them, because this is so much troublesome for me as well for the performance of my application.   i have very basic question about How JSF2.0 binds Managed Beans with xhtml? say i have inputtext with value="#{MymanagedBean.property}" how this MymanagedBean reference is resolved in JSF 2 ? please consider following points while answering. in ealier version i.e. with JSF 1.2 we have to write binding in faces-config.xml but with JSF 2 it is not mandatory to have faces-config.xml if you do view source of xhtml pages.. you will not find anywhere MymanagedBean reference. then how it is done?

• Adding buttons dynamically to a uitableviewcell - iPhone app

  I have a verb conjugation app that displays verb translations in the first cell of a table. At present the translation list is just a string (comma-separated list) but I'd like to change it to have clickable buttons. I had a play around adding buttons to the cell view without too much success but my only experience with custom cells has been using specific positioning so I'm unsure as to how to achieve a dynamic list of buttons (varying widths) within a cell. Any help greatly appreciated. Cheers.

• asp:calendar not work correctly in MVC

  I have an asp:calendar on my view page and as I hover over it..it shows a javascript postback status bar. but I have an asp:button also on the same page and when I hover over it. The action from the controller is in the status bar..because I have an onClick attribute for the button that triggers an action on the server side. and in the asp:calendar I also have a trigger event OnSelectionChanged the has a method on the server side...but as I said when I hover over the calendar to pick a date in the status bar it shows:javascript:_doPostBack($ct100ContentPlaceHolder?mycalendar',''3270) and when I click a date I receive an error that says object doesnt support this method..Also mycalendar is the id name of the asp:calendar

• Setting Corner Radius on UIImageView not working

  I'm at a bit of a loss. I've used the layer property of UIView to round the corners of multiple elements in my app. However, this one UIImageView is simply not complying. Not sure what I am missing. The UIImageView (called previewImage) is contained in a Table View Cell. • iPhone - UIScrollView is scrolling before UIDatePicker that is placed inside it

  Hello, I have a UIDatePicker inside a UIScrollView. But the UIDatePicker does not respond to scroll touches. It's the scrollview that is scrolling. Reading some docs on the net, I've set "Delay Content Touches" to NO, an now I see the datepicker starting a slight scroll, but it's still the scrollview that take the final word. I have some place on the screen where the user can touch to scroll the view. So how may I separate the two kind of scrolls ans make the datepicker scroll in a normal way ? Thank you for your help

  UPDATE: My model going into the save method is PartialViewModel, which in the save method, is pushed into the index's ContactViewModel and sent back. This wasn't clear. I am playing around with MVC3, and have a contact controller with a SaveDetails action. The index cshtml has a partial with a form whose action is pointing to this controller. When I submit the form not having completed it fully, thereby firing the validation, the url now contains the SaveDetails action name (http://localhost:7401/Contact/SaveDetails). The form code is: @using (Html.BeginForm("SaveDetails", "Contact")) { ... } The controller action looks like this: public ActionResult SaveDetails(Models.PartialsViewModel pvm) { return View("Index", new ContactViewModel{ PartialsViewModel = pvm } ); } What am I doing wrong?

  I want to add an overlay view for my video when the video is paused by the user. Is there any way to get the pause notification from MPMoviePlayerController? According to Apple Doc, there should be ways to do this but I can't find which notification should I use for this purpose.   Hello, I have a program that displays a list (a TableView). When the user clicks an item, it's detail is shown. On the detail view, the user can ask to modify it so a modify window is shown. Here, the user can ask to delete the item. I would like at this time return to the list with the item deleted from the list and from the data source. There may be thousands of methods to do this, but I wonder which is the best / good one. Could you help me, and/or give me a good reference to read about this ? Thank you.

  Rails and MySQL: I have a table with several boolean columns representing tags. I want to find all the rows for which a specific one of these columns is 'true' (or I guess in the case of MySQL, '1'). I have the following code in my view. @tag = params[:tag] @supplies = Supply.find(:all, :conditions=>["? IS NOT NULL and ? !=''", @tag, @tag], :order=>'name') The @tag is being passed in from the url. Why is it then that I am instead getting all of my @supplies (i.e. every row) rather than just those that are true for the column for @tag. Thanks!

The structure of project directory is like this: series/ episode1/nameofepisode1.str episode2/nameofepisode2.str episode3/nameofepisode3.str ... Question: When I finish subtitle of an episode, I want to assign release tag for this episode (episode1_v1). I wanted to use git for this, but in git tag is assigned only to the whole repository. What to do, so that I can view every episode progress separately? Maybe there are some more suitable VCS for this?

  I'm trying to implement a control similar to Firefox's Rich List Box: However, I can only find the XUL implementation of this control, and I don't want to have to include a XUL processing engine in my application just to get a cool looking listbox. I've been trying to implement one on my own by customizing MFC's CListBox control, but am starting to realize it may take more time than I had intended. Before continuing to implement this control from scratch, I was wondering if anyone knew of a similar control that already exists, either commercial or open source. The main functionality I would like to have is: Small display for non selected items that expands when selected. Ability to add arbitrary controls to the expanded view. Preferably native code, but can probably use managed controls via native/managed interop with out too much extra work. Any help would be appreciated, I don't want to have to reinvent the wheel if I don't have to.

  Hi, I am creating small django application which holds some few questions (and answers for them) What I want to do is to show user random question, but only from those which was not solved by him yet. I wonder how to do this. For now, I defined user profile model this way: class UserProfile(models.Model): rank = models.IntegerField(default = 1) solvedQ = models.ManyToManyField(Question) user = models.ForeignKey(User, unique=True) So solved problems are added this way: if user.is_authenticated(): profile = user.get_profile() profile.rank += 1 profile.solvedQ.add(Question.objects.get(id=id)) Now if the view must show random question, but not from already solved list... Is there a good way to intersect Questions and solvedQuestions.... so question is chosen from the unsolved list?

  Hi I've been through many sites and can't seem to find an answer. I modified a view that was connected to a Datagridview connected through a tableadapter on a C# Winforms app and in order to "reconnect" I had to delete the tableadapter and reconnect it. This was to get rid of an error regarding Unique contstraints. So I fixed that and now the application launches but when I click on the tab that that grid is on I get: System.ArgumentException was unhandled Message="Cannot bind to the property or column Id on the DataSource.\r\nParameter name: dataMember" Source="System.Windows.Forms" ParamName="dataMember" StackTrace: at System.Windows.Forms.BindToObject.CheckBinding() at System.Windows.Forms.BindToObject.SetBindingManagerBase(BindingManagerBase lManager)......... I can't seem to find an answer to this problem. Can someone help me? Thanks

• Choosing a Reporting Services parameter value based on the currently logged in user

  Here's my situation. I have a Microsoft Reporting Services report that as a parameter takes a salesperson's name and shows them their sales across their territories blah blah blah. But, salesperson A should not be able to choose and view salesperson B's data. So, my thought was to get the currently logged in user from Reporting Services, and then use that to populate the "salesperson" parameter. Is there a way to get the currently logged in user through some hidden RS interface, or is there some other way of accomplishing my goal that I'm just not seeing? Any help would be GREAT, as the higher ups aren't too happen with my (apparent) lack of security right now.

• Can I set a style for the content of an iframe from the main page?

  We have a page the embeds a Google Calendar in an iframe. Recently, a warning box div began appearing on the calendar that looks like this: <div id="warningBox" style="color:#aa0000;">Events from one or more calendars could not be shown here because you do not have the permission to view them.</div> Obviously the best solution here is to find the private events and remove them, but so far the search for those events has proved fruitless. This calendar is an aggregate of several calendars, including a few we don't control (ie weather). We're still looking, but in the meantime, I would like to try to hide that div. I know that iframes enforce the separation between the pages, such that the child page is pretty much a law unto itself. But surely there must be some way to set a style on an element inside the frame?

• How do I get a title or some text to appear in a Silverlight mediaplayer when switching to FullScree

  I am working on an ASP.NET website with VB.NET code-behind. I have a Silverlight mediaplayer object on one of the pages and the user may view that video in FullScreen mode. When changing to full-screen mode they are losing the title and chapter of the video series they are viewing. I have tried accessing properties and searched the web for examples on how I could put a title or some text over the player when in FullScreen mode to give the user an indication of where they are currently at while viewing each video. I am using OnClientMediaEnded to move through the videos after each video has ended so they are able to watch the whole series once in FullScreen mode. I am using a call to javascript in with this method to do that and want to know if there is any way to get a title or text up there and then change once the video switches to the next in the series? The controls on the player also go away when going into FullScreen mode so any help with that would be greatly appreciated as well. Thanks

Tests In the MVC4 project I have added a web.config file with the connection string as <add name="EfDbContext" connectionString="Data Source=.;Initial Catalog=SportsStore;Integrated Security=true;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/> I have a class by name EfDbContext in Domain project which inherits DbContext. When I view the website in browser, I get the server not found error. I debugged the EfDbContext class and found that the Database.Connection.ConnectionString is set to \SqlExpress with database as EfDbContext. Why is that?

• Jquery prettyPhoto and star conflict....DOM not loading?

  I'm working on an online ordering system for photography clients: Here. (Forgive the requirement of having to sign in). After signing in, the user is able to rate pictures using the stars listed below each picture, then subsequently view 3 star pics, or 4 star pics, etc. However, when the user clicks on an image, a lightbox expands (prettyPhoto namely) which contains the picture as well as the stars listed below. I want users to be able to star a picture within the lightbox, but the javascript is not being passed after the prettyPhoto lightbox is initialized. Consequently, they can't rate pictures within the lightbox. I've heard of something similar to this, but have no idea about how to go about tackling the problem. Any help would be appreciated.   I've begun watching a series of first year lectures from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Australia, and I'm a bit perplexed by the instructors explanation of how an SRAM gate works. I realize this isn't exactly "programming-related" but since it comes from a series of lectures relating to computing and programming, I thought StackOverflow may be able to help (reddit failed me entirely). In this lecture beginning at around 32:12, Richard (the lecturer) tries to explain how a "latch gate" works within SRAM. Although his students seem to keep up, I feel I'm missing something crucial which is preventing the concept from really "clicking" in my brain.
