• Vista laptop won't connect to airport extreme

  Our previous router died, and to replace it I procured an apple airport extreme. My mac, my wrt54gs (with ddwrt acting as a bridge) and a linux machine have had no problem connecting to the wireless. None of the wired clients are having a problem obviously. The problem is one of my roommates can not connect. That's not strictly true. He can connect to the network, and will, infact, get a dhcp lease. However he cannot get any packets out. Can't ping the router, can't access any web sites, nothing. However he's fine if we switch to an unsecured network. Which is obviously not acceptable. The airport only allows for 'wpa/wpa2 personal' and 'wpa2 personal' (and of course the enterprise versions there of) I keep reading about this problem in multiple spots on the web, but never see any actual answers...   I currently have Windows 8 32-bit installed from MSDN (I didn't realise at the time that my processor supports 64-bit). I understand that you can't upgrade within Windows 32-bit to 64-bit directly from the ISO. I have burned the ISO to a DVD, and have attempted booting from this drive. The problem I am encountering: The operating system couldn't be loaded because a required file is missing or contains errors. File: CI.dll Error code: 0xc0000221 You'll need to use the recovery tools on your installation media. If you don't have any installation media (like a disc or USB device), contact your system administrator or PC manufacturer. • BSOD on windows 7 with SSD during boot after improper shutdown

  I have a BSOD on windows 7 with SSD during boot after improper shutdown (while windows animation logo is moving). The computer restart imediatly after BSOD, and windows proposes to launch startup repair (if i do it, it takes +-5min and fixes the problem : computer starts normally). However, after any new improper shutdown, i got the same problem. Remarks: If i unplug, re-plug the SSD whyle system is shutdown, i have the same problem. If i reproduce the situation with old HDD, i havn't the problem Previously, i had a different problem: BSOD when waking up after sleep, which was fixed by installing drivers (ethernet, usb, graphic card) I have made ram chech and ssd check and found no problems Starting with safe mode after improper shutdown causes a BSOD at loading of classpnp.sys Configuration: System: HP compaq 8510p SSD: OCZ vertex-2 2.5 Boot options: SATA native mode - Enable, HDD transalation mode - LBA-assisted

  Hi all, I have a friend with a Toshiba Satellite A200. He's running Vista HP SP2 32-bit. For some reason, when he attempts to uninstall Open Office or some other programs, a dialog box appears, which states, "The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation." After I click OK, another dialog box entitled "Installed Updates" says that "You do not have sufficient access to uninstall _. Please contact your system administrator." Any ideas? • Building uEFI bootable ISO and USB for Windows 7 deployment

  I have been trying to build up a window's 7 and 2k8 EFI deployment ISO or USB. But struggling to to even get an ISO to boot from even VMware Workstation EFI implementation. The problem is there is no clear requirement to what the EFI bootloader is looking for, "e.g EFI boot file" even ISO's and USB's that are bootable don't find the required .efi file. I'd like to know what is the process EFI bootloader follows to boot the EFI file. e.g; in a EFI windows system its; C:\Windows\Boot\EFI\bootmgfw.efi From DVD it's; F:\efi\microsoft\boot\cdboot.efi from what people tell me it's on USB; G:\efi\boot\bootx64.efi (bootmgfw.efi renamed) I've been testing on a HP notebook with EFI 2.0 and VMware Workstation 8.0 with .vmx file firmware = "efi"

• Restoring from .wim image without access to Windows DVD

  I'm attempting to fix a friend's computer. It will not boot to anything Windows-related (see my earlier question for more information). I was able to boot into Peppermint OS to back up her files and grab the HP OEM image (.wim) so that I can restore from it (OEM W7 key, so I can't just do a W7 reinstall). However, I cannot figure out what the heck I need to do to be able to actually restore her computer to that image. I tried using these instructions on TechNet to create a WinPE flash drive, but those instructions don't actually make the flash drive bootable, so that option didn't work (the partition is labeled as active, but when trying to boot from it I get the message "Remove disks or other media. Press any key to restart."). All of the other instructions that I found require that I get into WinRE or boot from an install disk, which I cannot do. Any suggestions as to how I can apply this .wim boot image?

• How to enter a bash script at the command line, but not process the script until the entire script h

  I am performing some interactive testing using HP's QuickTest Professional and Linux. I am connecting via SSH and feeding the BASH script lines directly into the command line. The problem I'm having is that the script executes as it is entered. I'm attempting to find a way that I can feed the script to the command line, but save execution until the entire script is complete. Anyone have any experience around doing this? I'll admit, it isn't the ideal way to perform this, but it's what I'm faced with at the moment. Any other suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

  Can ECC registered RAM 512 MB DDR-400 be used on thin clients - specifically Neoware CA10/CA22? Neoware thin clients (now HP Thin clients e100/e140) have 2 slots for a max of 1 Gb of DDR-400 RAM (184 Pin PC3200). I notice that the price of ECC reg RAM is considerably less than that of non-reg RAM ($10 for ECC reg 512 MB vs $24 for non-ECC reg 512 MB) so this approach is worth it for me to upgrade my memory on numerous thin clients (approx 40). The BIOS is Phoenix E686 and the chipset is VIA 800MHz - 1 Ghz.

But when I run [root@host plugins]# ./check_hpjd -H printer1.mydomain.com -C public Error in packet () I get this error - From what I've tried so far, I know my host can communicate via SNMP, I know the printer responds via SNMP, so I guess I'm left to look at the plug-in, which I will be checking up on. I'm new to SNMP, I am investigating this with my good friend Google search, but I am on a learning curve here, so please forgive my questions if they sound stupid,

• SAN alternative for VMWare

  Has anyone utilized something aside from a SAN to run their VMWare images off? We are looking to drop in two HP Servers and VMWare on them and run them off a SAN. Due to the cost of SAN though our CFO and VP are wondering if there are any viable alternatives (I.e. NAS) that can effectively run a VMWare. I can't think of any off of the top of my head. IF anyone can provide one or a good article outlining why to stick to SAN that'd be great.

• Laptop abruptly powers off after few seconds of booting

  I have a 3 year old HP Pavilion dv2208 laptop. Recently it started abruptly powering off in like ~20-30 seconds into Windows boot sequence after almost every reboot/shutdown. Even if I leave it in Repair/Start Windows Normally stage it powers off anyway. The only way I managed to workaround this is to enter BIOS setup screen and leave it on for no less than 10 minutes. I don't know what happens there but this helps every time. Any ideas of possible ways to fix this that don't include replacing motherboard are highly appreciated. P.S.: I've tried resetting BIOS to defaults, updating to the latest BIOS version, etc. Happens with both Vista and Windows 7.

• Problem setting up DL360G5 with scsi RAID

  I have a problem with reinstalling OS on a DL360G5. The BIOS [F9] do not detect any disc controllers and the HP SmartSetup did not find any compatible controllers. Inside the server, the two SCSI disks are conncted to a RAID controller using BCM8603 chipset. How is disc contoller supposed to be setup? I have tried to do a full BIOS reset. EDIT At the moment we suspect that the Smart Array controller E200i/412205-001 is broken. Are there any status LED's that indicate failure or success during start up? At the moment all LED's are off.

• Logitech M185 Wirless Mouse issue

  An issue with a Logitech M185 mouse today. A user is unable to use the device. The device works perfectly fine on my PC (It appears as HID-compliant mouse), but not on her laptop. It does not appear in her device manager on the 'Mice and other pointing devices' section. I did notice an unknown device in the Universal Serial Bus Controllers section, but when I try to update the driver, it says it has the most up to date driver. We've tried plugging in the dongle in multiple USB slots but no luck. Any advice? It's a HP 620 Laptop on Windows 7. Thank you :)

• External monitor image not centered in the screen

  I'm using Xorg 7.5 on a Radeon HD4870 with the FOSS radeonhd server on my HP 6830s. The laptop has a VGA connector and I attach it to a 37" panasonic plasma TV. It works fine except for a little annoyance: when activated, the TV screen is set to the resolution of 1360x768 (which it reports as being the highest it supports) but all the image is shifted by about 100 pixels to the right. I can't see the leftmost part of the page, and I have a black vertical bar to the right. If I change the resolution to 1024x768 there is no shifting, the image fills the entire screen with no parts hidden, but at this resolution the image is stretched. How can I tune the position on the external monitor so that the image is centered in the screen filling it entirely?

Other tools like SGI's PCP, HP's MeasureWare, and SEC provide monitoring over time - monitoring things like average disk access time over the last five minutes, or other similar items. Is there anything like this for Nagios? I'm already running NDOUtils, which seems like a natural source for such data. I'd like to have something that would monitor and fire off alarms based on a time-based check using historical data. Is there anything like this for Nagios?

  I have an HP Compaq TC4400 and I recently was able to make most of the Tablet PC functions work in Ubuntu 9.10. (The step-by-step guide can be found in my blog.) Unfortunately I have yet to make the jog dial work. This would be particularly useful for scrolling up and down websites and documents when the TC4400 is in slate mode (with no access to the keyboard). I would be much obliged if anybody could tell me: How to find out the input button/key assignment that Ubuntu 9.10 has for jog-up and jog-down; How to assign jog-up to scroll up (D-pad key UP, or PAGE UP) and jog-down to scroll down (D-Pad key DOWN, or PAGE DOWN). I am using xbindkeys to assign different shortcuts to the quick launch buttons, perhaps I could use the same program for the jog dial? I would have done that, except I do not know how to find the proper button/key assignment for xbindkeys to use. Thanks in advance!

• Windows 7 trying to turn off UAC every time Windows starts

  I have strange problem on my HP laptop. This began to happen recently. Whenever I start my machine, Windows 7 Action Center displays the following warning: You need to restart your computer for UAC to be turned off. I never disable UAC, but obviously some process or virus (I'm not sure, only guessing) causes this. As soon as I get this warning, I head for the UAC settings, and re-enable UAC to dismiss this warning. This is a bothersome situation as I really don't know what causes the problem. I have run a full scan on the computer for any probable virus activity, but TrendMicro OfficeScan said that no viruses have been found. There are no other strange incidents on the machine. Everthing works fine except this bizarre incident. How can I learn what process is trying to turn off UAC? What way should I follow to overcome this problem?

• Capture RTSP stream from IP Camera and store

  I've got a few IP Cameras which output an RTSP (h264 mpeg4) stream. Hitting the URL locally via VLC: rtsp://192.168.0.21:554/mpeg4 I can stream the camera and dump to disk (on my desktop). I'd like to however store these files on my NAS (FreeNAS). I was looking at ways to capture the RTSP stream and dump them to disk but I'm unable to find anything. Is it possible to capture the stream on FreeBSD or Linux (RaspberryPi) and dump the streamed content to a disk local to Linux or FreeBSD - preferably every 30minutes? EDIT: The NAS is headless (HP N55L or something) and the RaspberryPi's are headless too. I've already looked into ZoneMinder but need something small. I was hoping maybe using Motion to detect motion on the stream but that will come later.

• Weather Logging Software on Windows Home Server

  I'm looking for some weather logging software that I can run as a Windows Home Server add-in, or as a service on my Home Server, so I don't need to log into my Home Server to log weather data. I have an Oregon Scientific WMR918 weather station, and an HP MediaSmart EX485 Windows Home Server. The two are currently connected through a serial bluetooth adapter, but that shouldn't matter as the computer sees it basically as a serial device. I'm currently using Cumulus to log data and upload to Weather Underground, but it is a regular windows application, so I need to remain logged into my Home Server by RDP in order to run the software (I disconnect, but don't log off so the session remains open). Ideally I would like something to run as a service or WHS add-in, so that it runs all the time without logging in, can log data from my WMR918, and can upload to Weather Underground. Thanks!

  Hi, We are Rendering 16 live Streams at our client machine through one of our applications and the resolution of the video streams are as 4CIF/MPEG4/25FPS/4000Kbits. The configuration fo the client machine is below. HP Desktop Machine: Microsoft Windows XP Intel (R) Core2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00 GHz 2.99 GHz, 1.94 GB of RAM Intel (R) Q45/Q43 Series Express Chipset (Inbuild) The CPU usage of the machine peaks 99% for 16 straems. After some discussion, we had decided to install external graphics card to reduce the CPU usage. So that, we have tried following graphics cards. NVIDIA Quadro NVS 440 - 128 MB Radeon HD 4350 - 512 MB GDDR2 Redeon HD 4350 - 1GB DDR2 ASUS EAH 4350 Silent 1GB DDR2 But the performance wise no difference, even worst. So, what is the pupuse of these external graphics cards? Really it will reduce the CPU usage? What parameters have to check, if we want to reduce the CPU usage?   Possible Duplicate: Is it better to use a laptop on battery or on AC power? I bought a new laptop from HP. I am not sure if I should remove the battery while I am working on my laptop or not. What is better for my laptop battery, to keep it while the laptop is plugged in or to remove it? or to charge it and then pull out the plug and when the battery is flat then plug it again? I use my laptop alot (at home and sometimes at work as well).
