• Cannot resize OS X partition

  I am trying to resize my existing Mac OS Extended partition on my Macbook to install Windows 7 (using steps similar to these), but when ever I go to apply the changes, I get this error: Partition failed Partition failed with the error: The partition cannot be resized. Try reducing the amount of change in the size of the partition. The total capacity of the hard drive in question is 260GB, with the entirety being taken up by the OS X boot partition. There is I am aiming to shrink that partition down to 60GB. How can I fix this problem? I have been reducing the amount of change by 10GB each attempt, but it still is not working. I assume the problem is that there is not a large amount of continuous space on the device. Is there some way to can do a manual defrag that would rectify this problem?

• How to reset MacOsX while keeping BootCamp?

  I have MacOsX 10.8.2 installed on my MacBook Pro and Windows 8 licenced on a BootCamp partition. I have messed up my MacOsx partition (problems while programming, .h files not found, old applications removed that still appears) and I wanna start back from a clean OS. Is there a Way to reset my partition (or reinstall, obviously) keeping my BootCamp partition safe ? I know I could use my recovery partition but I do not know if it won't delete my Windows and it no longer appears in disk utility. As I found no answers in the Internet, does someone how how to do that ? Thanks in advance.

• How to automate changing my ip?

  I am very new to OSX. I will use my MBP at work and home. I would like to be easily able to switch my ip when changing location. Thus far I have dabbled with the automator, hoping to do something like this: [pseudocode] If IP = 192.168.0.10 root# changeip 192.168.0.10 10.0.0.15 else root# changeip 10.0.0.15 192.168.0.10 The reason for this is that my IP from home will not allow me access at work and vice versa. I have friends and family who drop in now and then, multiple wireless devices set up for the home IP range. Changing all of that to accommodate one new device (the Macbook) would make me reconsider my foray into OSX. I'd rather have the MBP adapt to me than I to it.

• MAC and PC problems on home network

  Hello! At home we have a wireless router that my family want to use. We have our main computer physically connected to the router, and my laptop is connected wirelessly. When the network is like this then it is faultless. However, when my brother introduces is Apple MAC into the equation, both my laptop and the family machine gets all sorts of problems, primarily long load times and timeouts. The MAC, however, works fine. I think I've read something here or SF about a MAC continusly pinging a router which times it out, but I've not found any solution so far. • Entering new user data into AD LDS

  I need some help configuring AD LDS (Active Directory Lightweight Directory Services). I'm not an administrator, have never configured domains and I don't have a clue how to add new users to existing domains. The thing is I need to develop an app on top of Sharepoint 2010 that must be connected to AD. I've chosen AD LDS because I can install it on Windows 7 and it acts as an active directory even though there's no domain controller present in the network. What I've done so far: I've installed AD LDS I've added a new instance with appication directory partition name DN=Air,DC=Watanabe,DC=pri I can connect to it using ADSI Edit and see all kinds of strange But now I don't know what to do? When it opens I can see the window below, but where's next? Can anybody give me some guidelines, how can I add domain users, so I can use them in my app AD required app?

I'm not really a perl user beyond enjoying it for massive directory-recursive find/replace operations within text files, so I haven't much of an idea what the permissions here are supposed to look like, and I'm not really sure how to go about determining how macports has gone and installed perl this way when it's otherwise worked without failure for years now. Does anyone have any recommendations for the sanest path towards rectifying this issue? Also, is there any interesting reason as to why the macports default for the perl5 port installs 5.12.4, and not 5.16.0, which has to be explicitly installed via the perl5.16 port? Thanks again!

• Can't change to Korean-named directory on my debian server

  I made a rsync backup of some directories from a macbook laptop to a debian server. Some of these have korean characters (Hangeul) in their names. After fixing my server's locale, it displays well when I do a ls for instance. But I can't cd to it. Example: $ ls -1 | head ??? dirA dirB … But if try to go browse that directory: $ cd ? ? ? cd: 3: can't cd to ??? Any idea what's wrong and how to fix it ?

• Formatted a Bootcamped drive as a dynamic disk, now can't boot to either Mac or Windows

  I was trying to create an extra partition to get a file from the Windows side of my Macbook Air to the Mac side, and I accidentally made the disk dynamic without realizing it. I am now unable to boot to the Mac side (holding Alt to go into the system manager at startup doesn't even list the Mac partition), and the Windows side blue screens during boot (goes so quickly that it doesn't even get to the error code before restarting). What can I do to fix the issue? I don't know how to make a bootable flash drive that a Mac will recognize, and Disk Utility (via Internet Recovery) couldn't do anything. • Drivers for Wacom Bamboo Tablet on Windows 7

  I would like to use my Bamboo tablet on my newly installed windows 7 box. However I definitively only want have the drivers to be installed. I don’t want all the additional software which is provided by Wacom in the standard software Installation package. I already tried different installation packages from the Wacom webpage, but I have not found a package which does not install all the additional apps (Adobe AIR etc). I also have not found an option to disable the installation of the undesired apps in the installer . Have I missed something? May someone give me a hint on how to get/install the drivers only?

• Compiling zip component for PHP 5.2.11 in MAMP PRO

  Helo I installed MAMP PRO on my Macbook Pro (10.6) some time ago. Now I would like to use zip functions in php. I found that I must add zip.so to my extension folder and edited php.ini. On my computer I have two different versions of PHP one in MAMP folder and other in user/lib which was pre-installed on my system. Now I wish to compile my zip library for MAMP version. I got zip sources for my version of PHP then in terminal called function /Applications/MAMP/bin/php5/bin/phpize so it uses mamp php version ./configure make then I moved compile zip.so to extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20060613. When MAMP is launched it returns this error: [11-Apr-2010 16:33:27] PHP Warning: PHP Startup: zip: Unable to initialize module Module compiled with module API=20090626, debug=0, thread-safety=0 PHP compiled with module API=20060613, debug=0, thread-safety=0 These options need to match in Unknown on line 0 Can some body explain to me how to do this the right way.

• When to move into a CRM system?

  I have a client that is currently managing around 5000+ contacts via Outlook. There is also a BES Express installation in place. There are a couple problems. First, there is a corrupt contact in there somewhere that is preventing either a cabled or over the air sync of the complete list to a blackberry. The second, is that it just seems to be getting a bit unruly. They currently have a license for ACT, which I'm trying to get them to move into, but at what number does the contact list need to be at to migrate away from using Outlook/Exchange and into a real CRM solution?

• Computer and internet use on a boat?

  Let's assume that I seriously would like to be able to use my computer as easily and as carefreely while on a boat as I do while at home. In short, if I were on a boat for extended periods, such as two weeks at a time and occasionally over a few days out of port (this would be a 2 person sailing vessel), what would my options be for power, durability, and of course, internet access? I want more than just email, as I will likely keep doing a tad of development, and will be looking at google earth from time to time. I am already assuming that we're going with some kind of laptop, maybe even a macbook pro 12". I personally feel that netbooks are underpowered. And the last computer that I got a boat-friendly rating for was a ZX Spectrum, which was before the internet, and was likely due to it's 12vdc-happiness.

• Install 64-bit Windows 7 on Mac Using Bootcamp

  Has anyone been able to install Windows 7 x64 under Bootcamp on a Mac? I was able to get the 32-bit version to install, but I cannot get x64 to install. The Mac doesn't seem to even want to boot the DVD. And even if I get it installed are there drivers that will work with it? I'd prefer to have Windows 7 x64 because I'd like to use the entire 6GB RAM in my MacBook Pro. I'd appreciate any tips or advice.

  I need to start using GIT for my projects from now on and I need to use some UNIX commands. but no matter what I do, I always receive "command not found" error. • Windows 7 Activation with Bootcamp and VMWare

  I have windows 7(64) installation setup on a Boot Camp partition on my MacBook Pro 13". I also access this partition through VMware hosted by OS X (snow leopard). Every time I switch between VMware and Boot Camp windows says that it needs to be re-activated because of hardware or driver changes. I've tried wmware KB KB 1003426 to no avail. • Good window management grid keyboard shortcuts on keyboards without a numeric keypad

  I like to use Winsplit Revolution to position open windows in a specific place on my screen in a grid-like fashion. One of the things I like about Winsplit Revolution is that the default keyboard shortcuts use the physical layout of the numeric keypad as a mnemonic for where each key positions a window (e.g. Ctrl + Alt + 7 positions window in top left hand corner because 7 is in top left hand corner and Ctrl + Alt + 3 positions window in bottom right hand corner because 3 is in bottom right hand corner). I am looking to get a laptop (Macbook Pro) whose keyboard does not feature a numeric keypad. Can anyone suggest a set of keyboard shortcuts on such a machine that provides a similar mnemonic to aid in remembering what each shortcut does, rather than a simple arbitrary assignment of shortcuts? To be clear, I am not interested in specific window management software, just suggestions for keyboard shortcuts that are easy to remember.

• Mac Book Refuses to Boot

  I have a Macbook that has unfortunately died on me. I randomly got a pop up message that said I needed to restart my computer, and once I did, I was greeted with the blinking folder question mark start up screen. I've tried everything, including running Disk Utility repair and reformatting the hard drive and reinstalling OS X. All of my data is backed up and safe, I just need my computer to start again. Before I go off and buy a new hard drive, I wanted to see if there is anything I might have forgotten.

• usb vs firewire for connecting two RAID 0 disks

  I have a 2TB and a 4TB RAID 0 external drives (both have two physical hard drives in them). Both have a FW800, FW400, and USB port. My MacBook Pro has one FW800 port and two USB ports. I want to copy data from the 4TB drive to the 2TB drive. Is it better to A - connect both directly to the laptop, one with USB and one with FW800 or B - connect the 4TB drive to laptop with FW800 and the 2TB drive to the 4TB drive using a FW400 cable? Anyone have problems daisy-chaining RAID 0 disks using FW? Thanks!

  I installed xampp back around January 2009, and CF8 to test coldfusion on my macbook (note: I do not think that this issue is related to CF, but only xampp). I only ever used the apache part of xampp, and this was working for over a year. In the last couple of months at the most I've started getting the following error message (even for none CF sites, and non .cfm pages, the error occurs for .html files..): Access forbidden! • Problem with Skype in Snow Leopard

  Ever since I upgraded my MacBook Pro from Leopard to Snow Leopard I have always had problems with Skype. When I start a video chat, Skype tells me that my camera is not installed on the machine (even though it clearly is). After searching the internet I have found some 'solutions' but none of them work. After trying them, it makes my camera feed appear as a blank, green image. How can I get Skype to function with the built in iSight with Snow Leopard properly? is there any body else face this problem?

  Hi, I'm new to this site but have found the articles and feedback very useful. We have a Server Room which our Organisation owns and controls, yet there are several thirs party companies that have open access to this room. As such, we have been asked to put together a protocol paper that stipulates the standards that we expect to be adhered to when working in this room. Other than the monitoring of UPS loads, Air Cooling functionality, alarm systems etc, does any one have any guidance on the kind of issues that need to be documented to make this protocol all encompassing? I'm thinking along the lines of not leaving cardboard or other combustibles in the room, not having food and drink in the room, not altering the fabric of the building by drilling through walls etc? • Work firewall blocking Gmail IMAP port

  My work has a very over protective firewall. We use Google Apps for our email and so can access the web interface just fine. I use my laptop at work however (MacBook connected via WiFi through my AirPort Express), and prefer to use Sparrow to check my email. The problem is that our firewall blocks whatever port Gmail's IMAP server uses. I'm trying to figure out the easiest way to work around this. I'm guessing I'll need to use an SSH tunnel or VPN, but I'm looking for specific instructions. I'd prefer to only route the IMAP stuff around the firewall as opposed to using a VPN full time. I have two computers at home (one PC, one Mac Mini) that are always on and could probably act as a server if needed.

  I have the following hardware: 2 Desktop PCs, running Windows XP and Ubuntu Macbook Pro a LCD monitor, a wired keyboard, and a wired mouse Currently, I'm using an oldish IOGear KVM switch to connect the two PCs to the input/output (and it works very well). I'd like a setup that includes the laptop as well, ideally maintaining as much portability as possible (meaning I'd like to be able to sit down, easily plug in my laptop, work on all computers, then easily pick up and leave with the laptop - is docking station the right word here?). What hardware do I need to do this?

• Mac OSX application running but window is not visible

  greatful for any assistance as this is driving me nuts.. I'm running an application on my macbook pro, and since yesterday I can't see the application's main window. It's icon is showing in the doc and it's options are showing in the top menu bar on the desktop. The program is running normally in all other respects as far as I can tell (its an audio sampler which I am triggering via an external pedal, so I can tell its working). The window did show up once in Expose but now it is not showing up there either (no idea why). I've tried adding the application to every space in 'Spaces' and also removing the preferences file but neither of those helped. I have also reinstalled the application. I really need this back for a music project so any help would be massively appreciated, cheers!
