• Why does deploying a .NET Compact Framework assembly cause .NET Desktop Framework assemblies to be d

- by Matthew Belk
I am trying to get one of my developers set up to work on a fairly large .NETCF project. When we try to simply deploy the solution and all of its projects to a target device, deploying one of the projects triggers several assemblies from the desktop framework to be copied from the GAC to the device. What on earth could cause this? The assemblies from the "big" framework are ones like System.DirectoryServices, System.Design, and a bunch of others.

• URLRewriter.net with multiple querystring separated by /

- by Andreas Strandfelt
I have been looking around the site a bit, but I didn't find any replies on how to do it the way I want. What I want is an URL like this: www.example.com/Projects/"querystring1 - text only"/"querystring2 - 4 digits only"/ to show the page with this URL: www.example.com/Projects.aspx?Region=querystring1&Zip=querystring2 What I have been trying is the following: <rewrite url="~/Leje-og-udlejning-arbejdskraft/(.+)/(.+)" to="~/Workers.aspx?Region=$1&zip=$2"/> But it just takes both of them as one querysting and put them in the Region-querystring.

• eclipse+bzr (Or: DVCS + IDE)

- by Adam Matan
Hi, I have some projects on bzr code repositories shared with colleagues. Problem is, I really want to switch to eclipse in some projects, but I don't want to pollute the repository with the unnecessary metadata eclipse creates in its Workspaces. Any idea how to keep Eclipse's metadata outside my bzr repo? Adam

• How do I specify a keys password with MSBuild for the purpose of using Hudson?

- by Brett Ryan
We have just setup our hudson server to build .NET projects which seems to be working fine, however for projects that require a password when signing the assemblies I can not figure out how to tell hudson what the password is? For us the password is asked the first time a developer checks out the source code and they open with visual studio, how is this stored? Can we just place a secret file somewhere on the server?

• Unable to deploy WAR file to Websphere using IBM Rational Application Developer

- by Matt1776
Hello - I am using the IBM RAD IDE and building a dynamic web project. When I build the project and attempt to add it to the server by selecting 'add or remove projects' I get the response that there are no projects to add or remove. Does this mean I will have to create a EAR file (J2EE Project) and add my web project to it in order to deploy to the local WAS? Might I be missing some essential configuration?

• What is the correct response for web service?

- by Eric
One of my web services returns the list of ids of the the projects a person is owner of. That is, when I GET http://example.com/wsListProjects?user=eric I get back xml with the list of projects. However, when I specify user=xxx, who doesn't exist, I currently return a 404 response? Is this the correct response to return? Thanks.

• VSS - Solution file between multiple users

- by BhejaFry
Hi folks, we have a solution with multiple projects that is being developed by a team of developers. Project paths in the solution file checked in initially contains the path that are specific to that developer. Now when another dev gets latest of the solution, some of the projects won't load as the path differs. What's a better way to manage this ? TIA

• Are Visual Studio Express and SharpDevelop Project Interchangeable?

- by Luminose
I'm starting to learn WPF and currently use Visual Studio Express 2010 at home. I want to be able to work on my projects at work but I am unable to install any unauthorized software on my computer. I downloaded SharpDevelop 4 and changed it so I can run it from my USB drive. SharpDelvelop will open Visual Studio projects but are there any issues I should be aware of?

• What is the advantage of the 'src/main/java'' convention?

- by Chris
I've noticed that a lot of projects have the following structure: Project-A bin lib src main java RootLevelPackageClass.java I currently use the following convention (as my projects are 100% java): Project-A bin lib src RootLevelPackageClass.java I'm not currently using Maven but am wondering if this is a Maven convention or not or if there is another reason. Can someone explain why the first version is so popular these days and if I should adopt this new convention or not? Chris

• Generate Makefile from Xcode Project for port of project to other UNIX systems

- by Manfred R. Koethe
(This was asked before but the answers were not conclusive) While I love development using Xcode (3.2.1), I have the need to port some projects to other UNIX systems, and even Windows. The code is all C++ but fairly complex. I'm looking for a way to automated / semi-automated generation of equivalent Makefiles out of my Xcode projects, after getting tired to do this by manual trial-and-error. Thanks for any hints. • Can I create an ASP.NET MVC 2 project with multiple areas without referencing each Child in the pare

- by No Refunds No Returns
This is a follow-up question to my original query: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1791605/how-can-i-use-multiple-projects-to-separate-a-large-asp-net-mvc-site-into-departm Now that I have this working, is there a way to still have multiple project but not have to reference each child area from the parent project? Ideally I'd like to be able to have multiple, separate and distinct projects that only come together on the production/test machines. I should be able to build and test each "area" separately.
