On the Mac, there is a hugely useful iStat Menus. It displays all kinds of statuses, such as CPU/RAM/Disk utilization, HD temperature, etc...
Is there something similar for Windows XP?
I'm looking for a user script that lets me fill out some form fields that are not covered by the Magic Wand in Opera.
Alternately I could accept a solution that lets Opera accept other form fields with the Wand.
To give you one example: when logging into any of the StackExchange sites, I need to manually enter (or enter from a note) the URL of the OpenID provider. I would like to automate this in particular plus several other sites where a similar situation exists.
I recently installed Windows Server 2003 R2 (64) on a DL360 G6 without using the SmartStart CD (it didn't like the MSDN media). But when I attempted to install the network drivers post-install using the packages from the HP website, I wasn't successful. Though I selected the correct package, the installer reported I did not have the necessary hardware configuration. Has anyone had a similar experience?
Thanks
Note, there's already a question on this regard, but it's totally useless.
I need to blur, or put a small opaque mask to a moving object on a movie I took, I am using mac osx. Clearly, I don't want to shell out a lot of money for something so simple, so getting adobe premiere or similar software is a no go. I could however consider paying a small software (max 30 dollars) for this specific task.
When I google for certain questions, or problems I run into I would sometimes run into 'archive' sites - these sites contain forum questions or information from other sites that are extremely poorly formatted, and are copies of the well formatted original posts from various forums. An example of one of those sites in mail-archive.com and various similar sites.
Can anybody explain to me why those sites exist and how come they don't get banned from Google (since all they have is copied content that is really poorly formatted by bots)?
Thanks!
Why when I remove the MACHINENAME\Users group permission set from a websites physical folder and and grant a similar permission set to MACHINENAME\IIS_IUSRS group my website will not start.
Why do I have to grant Read & Execute, List folder contents and Read to the MACHINENAME\Users group physical website folder?
Im trying to automate a long list of database experiments. I would like to save vmstat output while specific parts of the experiments are running.
Does something exist along the lines of time(1) or script(1) that I could use to say:
" While this command is running, save vmstat 2(or similar) output to a file "
I am aware that vmstat gives my vmstat for the complete system including other processes, but that is OK for my usage.
(Running Ubuntu 9.10 if that makes a difference)
I want to setup a kvm-based LTSP appliance with Ubuntu 10.04 (server/desktop for ltsp) on a Dell PowerEdge 2900 for ~10-15 clients. People will mostly use Firefox, Thunderbird, OpenOffice and Qcad.
Does someone have any experience with this setup?
I've had a similar setup with VMware Server 2 and Ubuntu 8.04. How good/bad is kvm compared to VMware for a LTSP appliance? Shall I stick with VMware or can I switch to KVM?
There's ways to get performance graphs with several monitoring software packages out there such as ZenOSS. There's a plugin available that will graph MySQL based SELECT/WRITE/SLOW queries in a nice rrd style graph.
I'm curious if there is a way to also get similar graphs available in Nagios 3.0? I know Nagios has tools like pnp and can integrate rrd, but is there something readily available that can plugin to monitor those MySQL specifics?
I know that VMware ships a vmware-mount utility with its server 2 packages on Linux that allow you to mount a VMDK outside a vm and treat it as a normal filesystem mounted on the given mountpoint. Is there a method for accomplishing something similar in OpenSolaris that does not require converting to a raw image and then back?
How would I go about embedding a text field on my desktop? That is, I want to be able to type into it, but it needs to sit behind my windows at all times. I know I can use geektool to display text. Is there a similar program or piece of code that would allow me to do what I want?
I am trying to hack together a twitter/fb/chat client which will not take up a separate window.
I'm tweaking ext4 file system for speed, one tweak at a time.
First tweak is to change from "data=ordered" to "data=writeback".
To test this, I execute "mount -n -o remount, data=ordered /" but I keep getting "mount: / not mounted already, or bad option".
From lots of google'ing I found many questions about similar problems and one answer circa 2001+ext3 which says that you can't change the journal mode with remount. Is this limitation still current?
Ok, so I'm in need a simple redirect:
Redirect 301 / http://www.new.com/
Similar to that, except I want it to catch anything, such as:
www.old.com/blah/blah/?xyz=123&aaaaabbbb=erewr3ttt#ewtjhirhjerh
and send the user to:
www.new.com
Should be easy right? Finding out how to do this is not so easy. Using the above rule we're still getting 404's for things that aren't there rather than the Redirect rule just getting everything.
First of all, a few questions as I'm a bit confused :P
Is the Chrome OS that is shipped on Chromebooks "Chromium"?
I'm wanting to buy a Chromebook, but I want to download an ISO or other similar format first so I can try it out in VMware.
To be clear, I'm wanting the exact version that ships on Chromebooks, as I want to get a good feel for what I'll be buying
Where can I find this? I've found other things but I'm not sure they're the actual Chrome OS
Hi,
I 've developed a software that automates an online game similar to oGame. You just plan your attacks or whatever and the application sends them automatically.
The application is illegal inside the game (I mean, it's not allowed to use this kind of applications in that game), but I'd like to know if it is legal to sell it to users without getting in trouble with the company that owns the game.
Thanks in advance,
Ivan
I have a directory like this
mkdir test
cd test
touch file{0,1}.txt otherfile{0,1}.txt stuff{0,1}.txt
I want to run some command such as ls on certain types of files in the directory and have the * (glob) expand to all possibilities for the filename.
echo 'file otherfile' | tr ' ' '\n' | xargs -I % ls %*.txt
This command does not expand the glob and tries to look for the literal 'file*.txt'
How do I write a similar command that expands the globs?
(I want to use xargs so the command can be run in parallel)
Basically, in the beginning I had ubuntu installed. Then I installed "kubuntu-desktop" package.
In the beginning, I didnt like the default notification, so I changed to Ayanta.. Now, I installed few packages and now my notifications are similar to what they looked like in ubuntu.
How do i get back my Ayanta notifications.
I'm newbie to Linux.

Code:
#!/usr/bin/rebol -c
REBOL [Title: "Cgi Test in Rebol"]

as I have 2 domain names on this VPS, I can't find where the domain folder are to do so.
Has anyone found a working solution to integrate a GnuPG in windows 7 ? I'm specifically looking for functionality similar to GPGee (right click on encrypted file - Decrypt). I'm having trouble getting GPGee to work under Windows 7 64bit.
Any solutions?
In addition to a really good firewall Linux has a builtin advanced routing and traffic shaping (lartc).
There are many applications (firehol, firestarter, etc) to make the creation of iptables firewall easier, what similar to tools exist to make working with the policy routing and traffic control easy?
Are there any programs (for PC) that will constantly monitor what programs and windows within those programs you have open, and then restore each of those windows in case of a crash/forced restart? (looking specifically for Outlook, but open to all ideas)?
Something similar to Chrome's feature where after a crash, it says "Looks like Chrome didn't shut down properly. Would you like to restore your open tabs?"
For some reason Windows 7's checkdisk freezes and doesn't move its progress bar forward for over an hour, while the disk is still supposedly active.
Now it's possible that if I left it overnight it would finally figure out how to progress, but are there any other programs with similar functionality I could use instead?
This question is similar to Good Open Source issue tracking systems for non-developers
but in our case, we would prefer a hosted solution. The users are end-users, on the low end of computer literate, non developers. We have around 5 support people and 50 or so end users. We are interested in simple issue tracking, like a printer being down, as opposed to project or bug tracking. Email integration is desired.
