  • Implementing google dashboard type interface in asp.net

    - by Sam_Cogan
I'm looking at implementing a Google IG type dashboard in a .net app. There are a number of options I've found to do this, and i'm trying to establish what is going to be the best to use, in terms of speed, versatility etc. So far the options I am looking at are either to use asp.net webparts and .net Ajax, this would make it quicker to build, but I'm concerned this is going to make the application bulky and slow, or using JQuery, and either .net MVC or Webforms, to custom build an interface. Does anyone have any thoughts on what the best option may be, or any options I may have missed? All I want to do here is to allow users to customise a dashboard with a number of components (which will be user controls). I do also have access to Telerik controls, but I'm not sure if they would be any use here.

  • The specified type member 'EntityKey' is not supported in LINQ to Entities

    - by user300992
I have 2 Entities "UserProfile" and "Agent", they are 1-many relationship. I want to do a query to get a list of Agents by giving the userProfileEntityKey. When I run it, I got this "The specified type member 'EntityKey' is not supported in LINQ to Entities" error. public IQueryable<Agent> GetAgentListByUserProfile(EntityKey userProfileEntityKey) { ObjectQuery<Agent> agentObjects = this.DataContext.AgentSet; IQueryable<Agent> resultQuery = (from p in agentObjects where p.UserProfile.EntityKey == userProfileEntityKey select p); return resultQuery; } So, what is the correct way to do this? Do I use p.UserProfile.UserId = UserId ? If that's the case, it's not conceptual anymore. Or should I write object query instead of LINQ query?

  • Html.RenderAction<MyController> - does not have type parameters

    - by Ami
Hi, I'm trying to use RenderAction in the following way: '<% Html.RenderAction( x = x.ControllerAction() ); %' as seen here: http://devlicio.us/blogs/derik_whittaker/archive/2008/11/24/renderpartial-vs-renderaction.aspx and here: http://eduncan911.com/blog/html-renderaction-for-asp-net-mvc-1-0.aspx but I keep getting an error about the method not having type parameters. also in MSDN I see there is no documentation for it, and also checking the MVC source code I can't find anything. I'm using the latest ASP.Net MVC (2.0 RTM) is this feature no longer available? how can I use it? thanks.

  • how to group by over anonymous type with vb.net linq to object

    - by smoothdeveloper
I'm trying to write a linq to object query in vb.net, here is the c# version of what I'm trying to achieve (I'm running this in linqpad): void Main() { var items = GetArray( new {a="a",b="a",c=1} , new {a="a",b="a",c=2} , new {a="a",b="b",c=1} ); ( from i in items group i by new {i.a, i.b} into g let p = new{ k = g, v = g.Sum((i)=>i.c)} where p.v > 1 select p ).Dump(); } // because vb.net doesn't support anonymous type array initializer, it will ease the translation T[] GetArray<T>(params T[] values){ return values; } I'm having hard time with either the group by syntax which is not the same (vb require 'identifier = expression' at some places, as well as with the summing functor with 'expression required' ) Thanks so much for your help!

  • jQuery/AJAX type-ahead/auto-complete

    - by Prasad
I have read several articles/questions/forums discussing the best auto-complete plugin for jQuery. After trying several good ones, I've realized a flaw in most. If you are looking up countries and type 'In', a couple of countries show up. If you continue typing I-n-d-i-a, this results in 5 AJAX calls (see http://www.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/6f1bcd69e1.png) its quite natural that India is a subset of In, so why call again? We need to simply filter the retrieved list client-side. Anyone knows about such an implementation? What is the status of the Jquery Autocomplete feature? I read at StackOverflow that it is no longer available with Jquery; but the Jquery website has a 'New' mark besides the link to Autocomplete. Thanks

  • Custom Errors "Could no load type error"

    - by anil
I am creating ASP.Net MVC application and want to handle errors globally. I have set web.config value as mode=On and defaulRedirect="Error.aspx". I have Error.aspx at two places. One at Views/Shared folder and one at project root folder level. But each time an unhandled error occurs, the error page at root level gets called. How can I make it redirect to the one at Shared folder level? I want to do this becasuse, currently I am getting error as "could not load type System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage" when any error is occuring. • Leaving out type="text/javascript" language="javascript"

    - by coffeeaddict
Most of the script tags I create, I always include type="text/javascript" language="javascript" in the tag. My boss however does not. Sometimes he excludes both, sometimes just has language=javascript even without the quotes Now we have not had an issue in any of the major browsers with his tags. I'm talking about all versions of IE, FF, Safari, and Chrome. Personally I feel it's laziness and just totally improper and bad coding practice to leave stuff out like this even if it works without it. Anyone know if both should be included or just one or is it ok to leave both out in ASP.NET?

  • How to CompareTo two Object without known about their real type

    - by Kamil
    I have to implement a one linked list but it should put object in appropriate position. Everything was OK when I use it in conjunction with specific class, but when I tried make it universal and argument of method insert was Object some problem appeared. When I want to input Object in right position I should use CompareTo method, but there isn't method in Object class! The problem is how to compare two object elements without known about their real types. Maybe I should use generic class type? But what about CompareTo? Or maybe combine with Element class and place CompareTo there? I suppose it is feasible. :) public void insert(Object o) { Element el = new Element(o); // initializing and setting iterators while(!it.isDone() && ((it.current().getValue())).CompareTo(o)<0) // it.current() returns Element of List { //move interators } //... }

  • Generic type parameters using out

    - by Mikael
Im trying to make a universal parser using generic type parameters, but i can't grasp the concept 100% private bool TryParse<T>(XElement element, string attributeName, out T value) where T : struct { if (element.Attribute(attributeName) != null && !string.IsNullOrEmpty(element.Attribute(attributeName).Value)) { string valueString = element.Attribute(attributeName).Value; if (typeof(T) == typeof(int)) { int valueInt; if (int.TryParse(valueString, out valueInt)) { value = valueInt; return true; } } else if (typeof(T) == typeof(bool)) { bool valueBool; if (bool.TryParse(valueString, out valueBool)) { value = valueBool; return true; } } else { value = valueString; return true; } } return false; } As you might guess, the code doesn't compile, since i can't convert int|bool|string to T (eg. value = valueInt). Thankful for feedback, it might not even be possible to way i'm doing it. Using .NET 3.5

  • Size of int in C on different architectures

    - by NawaMan
I am aware that the specification of the C language does not dictate the exact size of each integer type (e.g., int). What I am wondering is: Is there a way in C (not C++) to define an integer type with a specific size that ensures it will be the same across different architectures? Like: typedef int8 <an integer with 8 bits> typedef int16 <an integer with 16 bits> Or any other way that will allow other parts of the program to be compiled on different architecture.

  • Python: convert buffer type of SQLITE column into string

    - by Volatil3
I am new to Python 2.6. I have been trying to fetch date datetime value which is in yyyy-mm-dd hh:m:ss format back in my Python program. On checking the column type in Python I get the error: 'buffer' object has no attribute 'decode'. I want to use the strptime() function to split the date data and use it but I can't find how to convert a buffer to string. The following is a sample of my code (also available here): conn = sqlite3.connect("mrp.db.db", detect_types=sqlite3.PARSE_DECLTYPES) cursor = conn.cursor() qryT = """ SELECT dateDefinitionTest FROM t WHERE IDproject = 4 AND IDstatus = 5 ORDER BY priority, setDate DESC """ rec = (4,4) cursor.execute(qryT,rec) resultsetTasks = cursor.fetchall() cursor.close() # closing the resultset for item in resultsetTasks: taskDetails = {} _f = item[10].decode("utf-8") The exception I get is: 'buffer' object has no attribute 'decode'

  • Dynamic type for List<T>?

    - by Brett
Hi All, I've got a method that returns a List for a DataSet table public static List<string> GetListFromDataTable(DataSet dataSet, string tableName, string rowName) { int count = dataSet.Tables[tableName].Rows.Count; List<string> values = new List<string>(); // Loop through the table and row and add them into the array for (int i = 0; i < count; i++) { values.Add(dataSet.Tables[tableName].Rows[i][rowName].ToString()); } return values; } Is there a way I can dynamically set the datatype for the list and have this one method cater for all datatypes so I can specify upon calling this method that it should be a List<int or List<string> or List<AnythingILike>? Also, what would the return type be when declaring the method? Thanks in advance, Brett

  • Tomcat Exception-Type Ignoring Specific Exception for More General

    - by David Marks
For one type of exception, IOException, I want to display one page. For all other exceptions I have a default error page. In my web.xml I have things setup like this: java.io.IOException /queryException.jsp java.lang.Exception /error.jsp The problem is the error.jsp is the only page that ever shows, even if an IOException is thrown. The order the tags appear in doesn't matter; if I remove the java.lang.Exception tag though, I can get queryException to show for IOExceptions. What is the solution here? How can I keep a general error page for all exceptions EXCEPT for those with specific pages?

  • Intellij-Idea: Marking all files of unknown type as text (so that they are searchable)

    - by sixtyfootersdude
Many of my scripts etc in intellij are marked with a question mark. Then when I click on them them it prompts me: The file "bla" cannot be associated with a registered file type. Please choose one: <insert table of file choices> This would not matter except the files are not searchable (with ctrl-shift-n) until they are marked as text. This is a major problem for me. I have an enormous code base and I don't want to mark all of the unknown files as text. Is there anyway that I can do that?

  • How to register a custom type in Hibernate using org.springframework.orm.hibernate4.LocalSessionFactoryBean

    - by Luis
I'm migrating from hibernate 3 to hibernate 4, In hibernate 3 the way I was registering a custom type was: public class AnnotationSessionFactoryBean extends org.springframework.orm.hibernate3.annotation.AnnotationSessionFactoryBean { private Collection<? extends BasicType> customTypes; public Collection<? extends BasicType> getCustomTypes() { return customTypes; } public void setCustomTypes(Collection<? extends BasicType> customTypes) { this.customTypes = customTypes; } @Override protected Configuration newConfiguration() throws HibernateException { Configuration configuration = super.newConfiguration(); if (CollectionUtils.hasEntries(customTypes)) { for (BasicType customType:customTypes) { configuration.registerTypeOverride(customType); } } return configuration; }} I'm now trying to do the same operation but using hibernate 4, my question is how is the best way to do this? since I dont have access do change configuration when using "org.springframework.orm.hibernate4.LocalSessionFactoryBean" instead of "org.springframework.orm.hibernate3.annotation.AnnotationSessionFactoryBean". Thanks

  • PHP - Opening uploaded DOCX files with the correct MIME TYPE

    - by user270797
I have users uploading DOCX files which I make available for download. The issues we have been experiencing is the unknown mime types of DOCX files which causes IE to open these docs as Zip files. It is running on a Windows/IIS server. Because this is a shared host, I cannot change any server settings. I was thinking that I could just write some code that would handle DOCX files, perhaps custom output: if (extension=docx) { header("Content-Disposition: attachment; etc) header('Content-Type: application/application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.wordprocessingml.document'); Output the file contents etc } Would this be a viable solution?? If so, can someone help fill in the gaps? (PS I know the above syntax is not correct, just a quick example)

  • The method split(String) is undefined for the type String

    - by pi
I am using Pulse - the Plugin Manager for Eclipse and installed. I have the Eclipse 3.5 for mobile development(Pulsar) profile with a couple other profiles. I realized that the split() method called on a string from code such as below: String data = "one, two, three, four"; data.split(","); generates the error: "The method split(String) is undefined for the type String". I am aware that the split() method did not exist before Java's JRE 1.4 and perhaps could be the cause of the problem. The problem is I don't think I have jre/sdk versions installed. Perhaps there's one in-built with the Pulsar profile and needs editing - but I couldn't tell what settings (and where) needs tweaking. I have checked WindowsPreferencesJavaInstalled JREs and it's set to = jre1.4. Please help thanks.

  • An unhandled exception of type 'System.StackOverflowException' occurred in System.Windows.Forms.dll

    - by Tanner
    OK, Im trying to highlight keywords in a richtextbox, the problem is I've got the code to highlight only the visible text on textChanged event,so I tryed putting the code in the richtextbox VScroll, so when I scrolled up it would highlight the text that wasn't visible before, but every time I start to scroll I get this error: "An unhandled exception of type 'System.StackOverflowException' occurred in System.Windows.Forms.dll" Does any one know why? Or maybe a way I could highlight the words while scrolling? Thanks, Tanner. int selectionstart = richTextBox1.Selectionstart; int topIndex = richTextBox1.GetCharIndexFromPosition(new Point(1, 1));//This is where I get the error. int bottomIndex = richTextBox1.GetCharIndexFromPosition(new Point(1, richTextBox1.Height - 1)); int topLine = richTextBox1.GetLineFromCharIndex(topIndex); int bottomLine = richTextBox1.GetLineFromCharIndex(bottomIndex); int start = richTextBox1.GetFirstCharIndexFromLine(topLine); int end = richTextBox1.GetFirstCharIndexFromLine(bottomLine); int numLinesDisplayed = (bottomLine - topLine) + 2; richTextBox1.Focus(); richTextBox1.Select(start, end);

  • Casting a non-generic type to a generic one

    - by John Sheehan
I've got this class: class Foo { public string Name { get; set; } } And this class class Foo<T> : Foo { public T Data { get; set; } } Here's what I want to do: public Foo<T> GetSome() { Foo foo = GetFoo(); Foo<T> foot = (Foo<T>)foo; foot.Data = GetData<T>(); return foot; } What's the easiest way to convert Foo to Foo<T>? I can't cast directly InvalidCastException) and I don't want to copy each property manually (in my actual use case, there's more than one property) if I don't have to. Is a user-defined type conversion the way to go?

  • Type casting needed for byte = byte - byte?

    - by Vaccano
I have the following code: foreach (byte b in bytes) { byte inv = byte.MaxValue - b; // Add the new value to a list.... } When I do this I get the following error: Cannot implicitly convert type 'int' to 'byte'. An explicit conversion exists (are you missing a cast?) Each part of this statement is a byte. Why does C# want to convert the byte.MaxValue - b to an int? Shouldn't you be able to do this some how without casting? (i.e. I don't want to have to do this: byte inv = (byte) (byte.MaxValue - b);)

  • C# ASP.Net The type or namespace name 'Secure' does not exist in the namespace 'source_extranet'

    - by Louis Russell
Afternoon all, I really need your help as this is a Nightmare! I was earlier having a problem with referencing a 3rd Party Dll (Here) but have overcome this problem and am now having a problem referencing my own classes! Everything seems fine at build with no errors at all but when I go to run the application it comes up with the following Compilation Error: Compiler Error Message: CS0234: The type or namespace name 'Secure' does not exist in the namespace 'source_extranet' (are you missing an assembly reference?) The line that the Error points to this line in the class: source_extranet.Secure.BackendCustomData newdata = new source_extranet.Secure.BackendCustomData(); This line of code points to a class in the same folder as the calling code class. I have scoured Google looking for an answer and haven't found anything that points me to an answer to my problem. Any help would be AMAZING!
