  In the W3C working draft for HTML5 here's a line I find confusing: http://www.w3.org/TR/html5/introduction.html#html-vs-xhtml Comments that contain the string "--" can be represented in the DOM but not in the HTML syntax or in XML. I can interpret this in two different ways: Comments that contain the string "--" can be represented in XML and in the DOM but not in the HTML syntax Comments that contain the string"--" can be represented in the DOM but neither in the HTML syntax nor in XML. I really find the original formulation highly confusing. Which one does it mean and is it even correct english? Who should I contact if I want to point out that I find such a wording highly confusing and that hence there's a high probability that other non-native english speaker would find this kind of formulation highly confusing too?

• Translating external api results in Drupal

  We're building a multi-language Drupal stack and one of the concerns we have is that our payment processor is going to have to send back some information to us. We've been able to narrow this down so that the strings they're sending back look like <country code>-<number of months> so we can easily translate that into any number of languages, except English. t('FR-12') is all well and good if we want to translate that into a french description, but because there's not an English language a similar string like t('EN-12') is not translatable. Similarly for the generic string: #API_Connection_Error This sort of generic string approach seemed really compelling to me at first but it seems to not work in Drupal. Do you have any suggestions about how to translate generic strings like this into both English and other languages? Thank you, I've been looking through Google all morning.

  Let say that given the following signature in LegacyLib.dll: int Login(SysInst *inst, char username[8], char password[6]); The simple way to marshal this function in C# would be: [DllImport("LegacyLib.dll", CharSet=CharSet.Ansi)] public static extern int Login(ref SysInst inst, string username, string password); The problem of doing it in a such a naive way is that the managed string we passed into the username or password parameter could be longer than the array bounds and this could potentially cause a buffer overrun in LegacyLib.dll. Is there a better way which overcomes this problem? i.e. is there any quick [MarshalAs(…)] magic that I could use to counter that?

  Hi, I've been attempting to invoke a private method whose argument is a parameter and I can't quite seem to get it right. Here's kind of how the code looks so far: public class TestClass { public TestClass(){ } private void simpleMethod( Map<String, Integer> testMap) { //code logic } } Then I attempt to use this to invoke the private method: //Hashmap Map <String, Integer> testMap = new HashMap <String, Integer>(); //method I want to invoke Method simpleMethod = TestClass.class.getDeclaredMethod("simpleMethod", Map.class); simpleMethod.setAccessible(true); simpleMethod.invoke(testClassObject, testMap); //Throws an IllegalArgumentException As you can see, it throws an IllegalArgumentException. I've attempted to cast the hashmap back to a map, but that didn't work. What am I doing wrong?

  I implement the IRefactoringExecutionListener interface in an Eclipse plug-in to get notified when the user refactors his code, so I can update a visual editor displaying corresponding UML Boxes accordingly. Now I have a RefactoringDescriptor and cannot manage to map it's information (project name as String, new name as String and resource path as IPath) to my model. My model is basically a Hashmap in which fully qualified names (String) of types are mapped instances of IJavaElement, or more precisely: IType. How can I "convert" between the two representations so I can update my model? Regards, Chris

And to test these controllers. EDIT ZOMG, made a terrible copy-paste error into this SO posting. The controller was PostsController, not the PagesController that I pasted into there. Problem still stands, as my code is correct, just the SO post, here was wrong.

  Hi, so in my program I have parts where I use try catch blocks like this try { DirectoryInfo dirInfo = new DirectoryInfo(someString); //I don't know if that directory exists //I don't know if that string is valid path string... it could be anything //Some operations here } catch(Exception iDontCareWhyItFailed) { //Didn't work? great... we will say: somethings wrong, try again/next one } Of course I probably could do checks to see if the string is valid path (regex), then I would check if directory exists, then I could catch various exceptions to see why my routine failed and give more info... But in my program it's not really necessary. Now I just really need to know if this is acceptable, and what would a pro say/think about that. Thanks a lot for attention.

• AutoKey - clipboard.get_selection() function fails on certain strings

  I've simplified my script so you can focus on the essence my problem. In AutoKey (not AutoHotKey), I made a Hot-Key (shift-alt-T) that performs this script on any string I have highlighted (like in gedit for example -- but any other gui editor too). strSelectedText = clipboard.get_selection() keyboard.send_keys(" " + strSelectedText) The script modifies the highlighted text and adds a space to the beginning of the string. It works for most strings I highlight, but not this one: * Copyright © 2008–2012 Lonnie Best. Licensed under the MIT License. It works for this string: * Add a Space 2.0.1 but not on this one: * Add a Space 2.0.1 – At the python command prompt, it has no problem any of those strings, yet the clipboard.get_selection() function seems to get corrupted by them. I'm rather new to python scripting, so I'm not sure if this is an AutoKey bug, or if I'm missing some knowledge I should know about encoding/preparing strings in python. Please help. • Poor DB4O performance - What am I doing wrong?

  I read Rob Conery's post about Object databases and thought I'd give it a go. I have a class lets say Book with 15 properties mostly string, some int, one Datetime and 2 decimals. I used Rob's code to open the database file etc to test on a Winforms project not a Web project. So I did the following: for(int i = 0; i < 1000000; i++) { var Book = new Book(); //Assign variables s.Save(Book); } s.CommitChanges(); This took at least a couple of minutes. I then tried to retrieve all data to test speed: var spp = s.All<Passports>(); This one line was quick, however, then doing: sppp.Count() as well as a seperate test doing a foreach loop and incrementing a counter took a couple of minutes. This seems quite slow to me. Am I doing something wrong or am I expecting too much?

  Hey there! I'm having a bit of trouble here and I was hoping someone throws me a hint :) I'm getting some GET VARS with JS but I have trouble with non-latin charsets: cyrillic for example. The cyrillic var appears correct in the url but when I retrieve it with JS I get some dummy string. I was wondering of a function similar to "unescape" for such a case. Alternatively, if someone knows a way I could convert a cyrillic string to the same dummy string I get from the URL, it will still do me the trick, since all I need is compare. :) Thanks! Martin

• Calculate an Internet (aka IP, aka RFC791) checksum in C#

  Interestingly, I can find implementations for the Internet Checksum in almost every language except C#. Does anyone have an implementation to share? Remember, the internet protocol specifies that: "The checksum field is the 16 bit one's complement of the one's complement sum of all 16 bit words in the header. For purposes of computing the checksum, the value of the checksum field is zero." More explanation can be found from Dr. Math. There are some efficiency pointers available, but that's not really a large concern for me at this point. Please include your tests! (Edit: Valid comment regarding testing someone else's code - but I am going off of the protocol and don't have test vectors of my own and would rather unit test it than put into production to see if it matches what is currently being used! ;-) Edit: Here are some unit tests that I came up with. • Wordpress auto excerpts from post content?

  I'm trying to create an auto generated post excerpt from the current page's post content using a function in my theme's header file. The post excerpt will be used as the page's meta description. Can someone give me an idea of how you might go about this once you've got the post content into a string variable? The somewhat tricky part is that, in order to predict a viable stopping point for the post excerpt, I'd like to specify that the cutoff point be the end of the first paragraph of text. And for that reason, it does not make sense to load the entire post content into the string I'm using. Can I grab the first paragraph without having to load the entire post content string? And I'm not certain how to test for that in php. Would regex be the only way?

My current regex is: Firefox\/[0-9]\.[0-9]\.[0-9] and it returns Firefox/3.5.2 I only want it to return 3.5.2 from the Firefox version, not the other versions in the string. I already know the browser is Firefox.

Edit 2 I should have said that I´m testing some method implementations in an abstract class (edited the code to reflect this). Since I can not instantiate the class, how can I test this? I´m thinking in creating an SomeClassSimple extending SomeClassAbstract and testing this one instead. Is it the right approach?
