• How do I stop Gimp from autolaunching on startup?

  Gimp launches every time I log into Xubuntu (v. 13.10). Gimp is not shown under Settings Manager- Sessions and startup. It does not appear in ~/.config/autostart. I immediately close Gimp in these cases, so it is not running when I shut down the session. How do I stop Gimp from autolaunching on startup?   This is the message I get when I try to rip a cd from any player. I usually use the stock Rhythmbox but have tried others to no avail. I have just updated to 12.10 from 12.04 and I had no problems in 12.04. I have read the other posts and have switched to the Main Server in the Software Sources menu. I have installed Ubuntu Restricted Extras. Nothing seems to help. I would appreciate any help. • How can I get media keys working on my keyboard?

  Just got a new keyboard, the Microsoft comfort curve 2000, and everything seems to work fine accept for the 'back' and 'forward' multimedia keys. I am running Ubuntu 11.10 and have tried going into system settings - keyboard - shortcuts, then I try and hold down the keys to set the action I want them to perform, but nothing changes. Any thoughts on where else to look? Thanks -- UPDATE -- I rebooted and the options to change the keyboard shortcuts seem to be working now. Now I can tweak the whole thing and I managed to assign the media keys correctly. Thanks to everybody for the suggetions

• Iomega Home Media Network Hard Drive 1TB Cloud Edition failed, data recovery?

  I have a Iomega Home Media Network Drive Cloud Edition 1TB that started clicking and then displayed a failure LED code Power LED and Red LED. I removed the SATA drive and inserted in a 'All in 1 HDD Docking Station' and connected to laptop by USB - Laptop has Win 7 OS. The dock is seen as drive E but cannot access and says 0% data etc. The drive does spin up when I power the dock. Web searches say the drive has EXT3 file system and to use Ubuntu to access drive. I have now setup a dual boot laptop but still do not see the drive using ubuntu. Is there something else I need to do to get it recognised etc. I really would like to recover the data, any suggestions please?

• Unable to access media wiki pages from another computer?

  I have set up a web server in my Windows 7 with easyPHP. The website works fine when I browse the locally via localhost or 127.0.0.1. But, unable to open the site from another computer which is in the same LAN or in connected to my LAN. My local IP is in the 10.x.x.x range. The firewall turned off on my private network. I've also tried by changing Listen 127.0.0.1:80 to Listen 80 In httpd.conf but still i'm unable to access the media wiki from other machines. Unable to browse the pages from other machines using localhost or using IP address (Ex: 10.x.x.x). Could you please let me know your suggestions and comments?

• Difficulty restoring a differential backup in SQL Server, 2 media families are expected or no files are ready for rollforward

  I have sql backups copied from server A to server B on a nightly basis. We want to move the sql server from server A to server B without much downtime, but the files are very large. I assumed that performing a differential backup and restore would solve the problem with the databases. Copy full backup from server A to copy to server B (10+gb) Open SQL Server Managment Studio on server B Right mouse on databases Restore Database Type in the new DB-name Choose "From Device" and browse to the backup file Click Okay. This is now resorting the original "full" backup. Test new db with dev application - everything works :) On original database rightmouse on DB Tasks Backup... Backup Type = Differential, Backup to disk, add a new file, and remove the old one (it needs to be a small file to transfer for the smallest amount of outage) Copy the diff backup onto the new db Right mouse on DB Tasks Restore Database This is where I get stuck. If I add both the new differential file, and the original backup to the restore process I get an error The media loaded on "M:\path\to\backup\full.bak" is formatted to support 1 media families, but 2 media families are expected according to the backup device specification. RESTORE HEADERONLY is terminating abnormally. But if I try to restore using just the differential file I get System.Data.SqlClient.SqlError: The log or differential backup cannot be restored because no files are ready to rollforward. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo) Any idea how to do it? Is there a better way of restoring backups with limited downtime?

• Play mp3 using Python, PyQt, and Phonon

  I been trying all day to figure out the Qt's Phonon library with Python. My long term goal is to see if I could get it to play a mms:// stream, but since I can't find an implementation of this done anywhere, I will figure that part out myself. (figured I'd put it out there if anyone knew more about this specifically, if not no big deal.) Anyway, I figured I'd work backwards from a working example I found online. This launches a file browser and will play the mp3 file specified. I wanted to strip out the file browser stuff and get it down to the essentials of executing the script and having it play an Mp3 file with a hardcoded path. I'm assuming my problem is a misunderstanding of setCurrentSource() and specifying the data types. • Any Red5 Working Example Project for 0.9 release

  I'm trying to find 1, just 1, working sample project for Red5 that's updated to work against the latest 0.9 release without missing jars and other nonsense. Right now, it's at v0.9 and the libs are different from other versions. They have 5 pathetic examples on their website, but all were built with the older versions, and who knows which version since they don't seem to be putting any effort into updating or marketing their open source project. For these 5 old examples, I could use the Add External JARS feature to try and add libs from previous versions, they don't mention which versions they were built against and I'm not going to try each previous version to see which works (I already did and nothing works). P.S. Voted the worst documented project on the planet. It's hilarious, one of their developers posted a few videos on youtube, without bothering to attach a sample zip for the get-started project he's demoing. No offense, but that's seriously #(#$$#($!@#*. Not a good start for any tech decision maker to assess a technology for commercial use. Anyone who's more intelligent and can shed some light on behalf of these fools?

• Simple XML variable returns "0"

  Ok, so im working with tumblr's API and im using SimpleXMLElement with php and ive run into a problem. Basically, when I call on a variable it just prints a zero. for instance : <?php echo $data->posts->post[0]->photo-url[5]; ?> This just breaks the page, and when I leave out the [5] it just prints zero I want to echo the photo-url with the number [5] but I cant get my head around this and its killing me. I just dont understand why it wont work. • Catching MediaPlayer Exceptions from WPF MediaElement Control

  I'm playing video in a MediaElement in WPF. It's working 1000's of times, over and over again. Once in a blue moon (like once a week), I get a windows exception (you know the dialog Dr. Watson Crash??) that happens. The MediaElment doesn't expose an error, it just crashes and sits there with an ugly Crash report on the screen. If you "view this report" you can see it is in fact MediaPlayer that has crashed. I know I can disable the crash reports from popping up - but I'm more interested in finding out what's going wrong. I'm not sure how to capture the results of the Dr. Watson capture, but I have the dialog open now if someone has advice on a better way to capture. • Why are there so many data centres in Texas?

  I've been searching for online hosting recently and have noticed a high concentration of hosting providers in Texas. Just wondering why this is? It couldn't be possibly be because of temperature (I don't think Texas is a particularly cool place to be) or maybe power is cheaper in Texas vs the rest of the States? Or maybe it's just there are laws in place which give hosting providers tax breaks? Would be very interested to find out.

  Hi, I have a UITableViewController view a UITableView that I alloc/init with a frame of CGRectZero : self.tableView = [[UITableView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectZero style:UITableViewStyleGrouped]; I want to add a view at the middle of the tableView (a loading view with a UIActivityIndicatorView and a UILabel), but I don't know how to position it, since I don't know the tableView frame. x = (self.tableview.frame.size.width - loadingView.frame.size.width) / 2.0; y = (self.tableview.frame.size.height - loadingView.frame.size.height) / 2.0; [loadingView setCenter:CGPointMake(x, y)]; I did init my tableView with CGRectZero frame so it can take the whole place available on screen (which it did), but I thought its frame would update or something. • print css: fit in one page

  Hi. In my page there's only one image. Kind of 1500x3000 px. In the printer, I need that this image's maximum width to be the width of the page, so I did: width 100% in the css, and it works. But the height... the old bullshit of height 100% will never work. Because it always will be 100% of the parent container, then someone must have height defined. Or html or body. So, my question is: make this image fit in one page. Any ideas?
