  • Mounting a network filesystem into schroot

    - by haggai_e
Hi, I'm using a network file system (AFS) and I would like to also mount it into my schroot. Adding a line to /etc/schroot/mount-defaults, with bind or rbind in the options didn't help: schroot always mounts the directory with bind, and it remains empty in the chroot. My current solution is a script that remounts the /afs directory with rbind after the schroot has been set up. Is there a way to make schroot use rbind directly?

  • How to Stream Videos and Music Over the Network Using VLC

    - by Chris Hoffman
VLC includes a fairly easy-to-use streaming feature that can stream music and videos over a local network or the Internet. You can tune into the stream using VLC or other media players. Use VLC’s web interface as a remote control to control the stream from elsewhere. Bear in mind that you may not have the bandwidth to stream high-definition videos over the Internet, though. • Build Your Personal Network

    - by AllenMWhite
Recently a few people have approached me privately about their careers, and how they can make the changes to allow them to do the kind of work they'd like to do, be it consulting or in a full-time role. (In every case, I was flattered and surprised, as I never felt I had that much insight into career choices.) The most important thing, I told each of them, was to use the network of people you know. You will always be more successful finding opportunities through personal contacts than you will through...(read more)

  • Fail to access Network options

    - by Konstantinos Marinis
I am trying to use OpenDNS for my newly installed Ubuntu 12.10... However I cannot insert custom DNS addresses... I am accessing Network, then at my wireless connection, no matter how many times I press the "options" tab at the low right corner (I am not using english Ubuntu, so the button might have a different name), nothing happens. Any ideas why or how should I configure my OpenDNS connection?

  • Upgrade from 12.04 to 12.10 Failed due to network troubles

    - by user99100
Every time I try and upgrade from 12.04 to 12.10 it keeps telling me that there are network problems. Is this a problem on "the other" side? My upgrade got through downloading half the packages last night but then went into sleep and then failed. Could it have something to do with that? Would I need to open a terminal and clear a "cache" (no idea what I'm talking about here) Thanks (Solved now, tried it again through out the day and it downloaded and installed fine)

  • Common Network Administrator Tools

    - by No Time
I would like to make a custom clump of Network Admin packages, to be able to carry on a thumb drive, to administer Debian based machines. Examples of what I would include so far: nmap traceroute vnstat zenmap * I know every situation may be different, but I would like to build a toolbox I could bring everywhere, and am looking for advice on other tools which would work. (If there is a similar question, I am fine being directed there)

  • network problem

    - by TimbooXD
I was trying to make my IP static from my ubuntu 12.10 laptop but I made a mistake and after restarting with sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart Ubuntu crashed. So after restart my system it said that it couldn't use the network. Now I need to reconnect to the Internet and make my ip static. It is for a server and that isn't the problem, but how can I reconnect and make my ip static and which data I need to know?

  • IIS7 returns 403.1 (execute access denied) for image file

    - by Kristoffer
I have a web app running in IIS7 on Windows Server 2008. There is a virtual directory pointing to a shared folder "/Content/Data" on another machine (running Windows Server 2003), as well as a real directory "/Content/Images" on the local machine (web app sub folder). Accessing images in "/Content/Images" is no problem, but when an image (e.g. a JPEG file) in the "/Content/Data" is accessed by a browser, IIS returns this error: HTTP Error 403.1 - Forbidden: Execute access is denied. However, the web app can read and write to / from it. I assume IIS and ASP.NET are running under different user accounts? Does anyone have an idea on what I have to do to make it work? I have set the permissions on the shared folder to Everyone Full Control, with no luck.

  • Mounting NFS share between OSX and Centos VM

    - by Adam
I'm having issues mounting an NFS share I've made on my Mac host (server) from a Centos VM (client). I'm getting a permission denied error. I have this line in /etc/exports on server: /Users/adam/Sites/ 192.168.1.223(rw) and in /etc/fstab on client: 192.168.1.186:/Users/adam/Sites/ /home/adam/Sites/ nfs rw 0 0 I'm sure this is a simple configuration issue, but I've never set up NFS properly before. • Share laptop Wi-Fi with router set up as access point via ethernet cables

    - by obie
I have an ADSL modem which serves as a wireless router. There's a laptop connected to it through cable. On the other room I have a laptop which is connected through the router wirelessly. Since I have other appliances that need to get connected but are not Wi-Fi capable I have another Wi-Fi router. How can I share the second laptop's Wi-Fi with the second router so that the router can then serve as an access point to give internet to my other appliances through ethernet cables? I want something like this: INTERNETMODEM (WIFI)LAPTOP 1 (WIFI)LAPTOP 2 (WIFI)Router 2 (ETHERNET)DREAMBOX & WDTV What I've tried so far is opened the admin interface of router 2 then set static IP 192.168.100.13 and disabled the DHCP. The DHCP of the main router starts with 192.168.100.1 then I hooked up router 2 with the laptop 2 through Cat5 cable but for some reason it's not working.

  • Write-but-not-delete permissions on SAMBA

    - by m6a-uds
Hi! I installed samba on my linux server for public file sharing on the LAN. I works great currently, but I would like to add some security: People from LAN should be able to Read files present and Add new ones, but not delete files. I want to keep this privilege for me ;-) How should-I do this? I have set up a "admin" account having full access even to deletion. There is just left to configure the "guest" acount. Google isn't helping that much right now...

  • Trying to mount NFS share on Windows Machien at startup with Z: letter for all users

    - by ScottC
Windows Server 2008 We are trying to mount a specific drive letter on a windows machine from a unix machine. We need the mount to be available to the server even if no users are logged in and to users who are logged in with If we run the command from the command prompt manually it conencts and we have access to the NFS share, and can open it and see and edit files. mount -o fileaccess=777 anon \\127.0.0.1\nav z: (ip address replaced with 127.0.0.1 for security reasons) However if we try to automate the task by making an entry in the task schedule for boot time, to execute the batch script, it adds a disconencted drive to the list in 'My Computer' but it is disconencted and when trying to access the drive an error is produced: Z: is not accessible The data area passed to a system call is too small.| Tried as administrator with highest privelidges, as SYSTEM (group) and as my user (adminstator level user) same results. Is there another way to do this? Most of the help I have found online suggest this way but it keeps failing.

  • Terse, documented, correct way to create Kerberos-backed user shares in Greyhole

    - by MrGomez
As a migration strategy away from Windows Home Server (which is currently out of support and intractable for our needs, for a variety of reasons), our little cloister of nerds has targeted Greyhole for our shared use at home. Despite the documentation's terseness, getting the system set up for simple, single-user operation isn't especially difficult, but this scenario fails to service our needs. Among other highlights of the system, we're attempting to emulate Integrated Windows Authentication (with Kerberos) and single-user shares to keep the Windows users in the house happy and well-supported. I'm aware of the underlying systems that go into Greyhole and understand how to set up per-user shares in Samba, but the documentation doesn't seem to support cases for Greyhole to sop up these directories as separate landing zones for replication. Enter my question: are both of these cases (IWA user authentication and user-partitioned personal shares) supported by Greyhole? If so, please cite or link the supporting documentation if it exists.

I have spare ethernet cables if that would help... Please help, thank You.

  • Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard: Locks MS Office files, but not Adobe .AI and .PSD files?

    - by Bruce Garlock
We have some shares setup on a Windows 2003 R2 server, and the MS Office files people save behave properly: The first person to open the file gets read/write, and the second person to open the file while the first person still has the file open, gets a read-only version. This is not true for the graphics files, like Adobe Illustrator .AI files, and Photoshop .PSD files. Anyone who goes to open these files has full read/write, even if someone else is already working on the file! This has lead to numerous file corruption issues, as well as other lost work, since it always saves the last changes to the file. How do we get Windows to properly lock these files so when someone is working on a file, and someone else wants to open one, they get read-only access? Many thanks, Bruce
