• How to safely use VSS when using a working directory on a thumb drive?

  I know putting code into VSS in general is as safe as putting money into a mutual fund run by Bernard Madoff, but I don't have the luxury of ditching it for subversion. That said, I need to be able to write code on two machines, I'm considering checking out code to a flash thumb drive. Anyone know in advance what I should/shouldn't do to avoid loss of work? Do I need to ensure the drive letter stays the same?

  I've got validation working with DataAnnotations on all my models, but I'd like to display an indicator for required fields on page load. Since I've got all my validation centralized, I'd rather not hard-code indicators in the View. Calling validation on load would show the validation summary. Has anyone found a good way of letting the model determine what's required, but checking it upon rendering the view, similar to Html.ValidationMessageFor?

• How to keep iPhone app out of iPad store?

  I have an iPhone app that I have started to turn into a universal app, however the process is not complete and I want to release an update to the iPhone version. I know that you can specify device capabilities in the Info.plist file to restrict your app to certain devices, but how can I do this to prevent the unfinished universal version from appearing in the iPad store? Is checking the LSRequiresiPhoneOS BOOL entry (in the Info.plist file) enough? Thanks!

  I would like to know if ParseExact is faster than Parse. I think that it should be ParseExact since you already gave the format but I also think all the checking for the Culture info would slow it down. Does microsoft say in any document on performance difference between the two. The format to be used is a generic 'yyyy/MM/dd' format .

  I am trying to make a macro in Outlook that will scan the To: list for a certain text string, and spit out a message if all but one (or two, etc) addresses have it. Is there a simple way to do this? Essentially, I am trying to write something that'll avoid being able to send a restricted message to a bunch of people with the string 'xyz' in the address, if one or more do not have it. AutoComplete makes this difficult, without checking through one-by-one.

  I understand that Haskell's filter is a high order function (meaning a function that takes another function as a parameter) that goes through a list checking which element fulfills certain boolean condition. I don't quite understand its definition: filter:: (a->Bool)->[a]->[a] filter p [] = [] filter p (x:y) | p x = x:filter p y | otherwise = filter p y I understand that if I pass an empty list to the function, it would just return an empty list, but how do I read the last two lines?

I have one c/Linux application that interacts with some webservice (c#) and also a web application (VB.NET).   Hello, I'm running into a scenario where at random times I am getting "Access Denied" when executing javascript. It is not repeatable and occurs in random places of my application. There is not indication of what is causing it in the logs and I'm really at a loss on this. It seems to be UI problem only.   For a multiplayer game I'm working on I'd like to record events to the mysql database without blocking the game update thread so that if the database is busy or a table is locked the game doesn't stop running while it waits for a write. What's the best way to accomplish this? I'm using c3p0 to manage the database connection pool. My best idea so far is to add query update strings to a synchronized list with an independent thread checking the list every 100ms and executing the queries it finds there.
