  I would like to slice random letters from a string. Given s="howdy" I would like to pick elements from 's' without replacement but keep the index number. For example >>> random.sample(s,len(s)) ['w', 'h', 'o', 'd', 'y'] is close to what I want, but I would actually prefer something like [('w',2), ('h',0), ('o',1), ('d',3), ('y',4)] with letter-index pairs. This is important because the same letter appears in 's' more than once. ie) "letter" where 't' appears twice but I need to distinguish the first 't' from the 'second'. Ideally I actually only need to pick letters as I need them but scrambling and calculating all the letters in a list (as shown above) is ok.

  Hi, I have to create a very simple webpage to show, filter and add data from not-yet-defined source (probably txt/xml/cvs). Records should be visible as a table, filtered using 3 criteria fields. There should be also possibility to add new records. My first thought was: XHTML + jQuery + csv2table + PicNet Table Filter. It does exactly what I want except adding rows - that is saving changes in source file (probably due to security risk). My question is - is there any possibility to do it without involving server side like asp.net, jee, php, sql? Source file is located on the server. Thanks for your ideas :-)

• Send data over telnet without pressing enter

  I've recently started messing around with Java sockets and telnet... I want the user to be able to connect to the server, just type a letter and have it sent to the server, without pressing enter to send it. I'm sure there's no way for the server to set this up, but maybe telnet has a parameter or something which could allow this? Maybe if I got the user to type stty cbreak or stty raw before running telnet, this would work? (UNIX only, I know!) If I can get telnet to do this then it saves me having to write a special client just for this feature...

  I'm not a programmer, so I'm not sure what I'd needed to answer my question. I'm wondering if it's possible to program a way to half wake your cell phone screen without having to press any buttons or using the sensors. Like I've found you can do on the blackberry z10, you have an option to wake the screen by swiping up from a locked screen. I love android and will use it regardless, but I had to use a z10 for work for a while and stumbled upon that feature. It would be fantastic to have that feature with Android as hitting a power button can get annoying. Thanks in advance

  I am current in planning on creating a big database (2+ million rows) with a variety of data from separate sources. I would like to avoid structuring the database around auto_increment ids to help prevent against sync issues with replication, and also because each item inserted will have a alphanumeric product code that is guaranteed to be unique - it seems to me more sense to use that instead. I am looking at a search engine to index this database with Sphinx looking rather appealing due to its design around indexing relational databases. However, looking at various tutorials and documentation seems to show database designs being dependent on an auto_increment field in one form or another and a rather bold statement in the documentation saying that document ids must be 32/64bit integers only or things break. Is there a way to have a database indexed by Sphinx without auto_increment fields as the id?

• Execute .sh script on ec2 instances without rebooting

  I currently keep my app code on S3 and have a startup.sh script which is fired via /etc/rc.local and installs the apps and any edits etc. Thus when I make a change, I need to reboot all my instances for the change to take effect. Is there a way to trigger the script without rebooting the instance? EDIT: I do not want to individually log into all my instances. I would prefer a method that I can script up to apply to all my instances at once - which are in an autoscaling group.

• Getting the fractional part of a float without using modf()

  Hi, I'm developing for a platform without a math library, so I need to build my own tools. My current way of getting the fraction is to convert the float to fixed point (multiply with (float)0xFFFF, cast to int), get only the lower part (mask with 0xFFFF) and convert it back to a float again. However, the imprecision is killing me. I'm using my Frac() and InvFrac() functions to draw an anti-aliased line. Using modf I get a perfectly smooth line. With my own method pixels start jumping around due to precision loss.   I have a classifieds website, and on the page where ads are showed, I am creating a "Send a tip to a friend" form... So anybody who wants can send a tip of the ad to some friends email-adress.   Hello, I am trying to set up a navigation system that uses GET parameters with no value, example: http://foo.bar/?mainPage takes the visitor to the main page. So I am using if statements and I am wondering if there is a way I can do this without a bunch of if statements? I don't think switch statements would work for this. This is currently what I have: $mainPage = $_GET['mainPage']; $contact = $_GET['contact']; if(isset($mainPage)) { // go to main page } if(isset($contact)) { // go to contact page } I don't want to have to end up writing a ton of if statements, though. In my case I get 'OK' displayed even when I click on the red cross icon at the upper right corner. Is there a way I can have 'Do Nothing' displayed when I click on the cross. I not want to add any more buttons.

  I'm making a scoreboard for my game. And when I do a NSLog of the data it comes out as this: { name = TTY; score = "3.366347"; } So my question is how do I remove this brackets and also just grab the name (TTY) and score (3.36 without the quotations) and place them in variable for me to put into labels. Currently I can place them in labels but they have the lingering curly braces "{" and "}". Any hints would be helpful as I'm happy to search further I just don't know the vocab to search for it. thanks

• Wicket: stateless AJAX behaviors in stateful page without serialization

  I have pretty stateful page with plenty of AJAX components. Most of these components have behaviors, which renders JavaScript code for calling AJAX requests to Java code. Because page isn't stateless, each request causes serialization of page. So far so good. But some of these AJAX requests doesn't change page ever, so serialization of page isn't necessary. For example it is forward caching data for (home-brewed) datagrid component. These requests are calling continuously and serialization of page during each request causes delays. There are some projects for stateless wicket components out there, e.g. wicket-stateless, but it solves another situation -- request of stateless components are processed on new instances of stateless pages. I want to process requests on existing stateful page instance but without serialization. I have tried to implement this in my own RequestCycleProcessor.resolve(), but I hung on searching for page from requestParameters because Session.getPage() always touches page and it causes serialization after request processing. Is there any example, idea, whatever for implementing this in Wicket? Hope it's understandable :)

• Maven WTP webapp with maven-eclipse-plugin but without m2eclipse

  I use the eclipse:eclipse goal to generate an Eclipse Project environment. The deployment works fine. The goal creates the var classpath entries for all needed dependencies. With m2eclipse there was the Maven Container which defines an export folder which was WEB-INF/lib for me. But i don't want to rely on m2eclipse so i don't want to use it anymore. the class path entries which are generated by eclipse:eclipse goal don't have such a export folder. While booting the servlet container with WTP it publishes all resources and classes except the libraries to the context. Whats missing to publish the needed libs, or isn't that possible without m2eclipse integration?   I have inhertied a sequential sharepoint workflow which deals with multiple tasks for different people; multi step approval based on certain condition..For each approval new task is created and monitored...For some reason; we have decided to use single task for the whole workflow and the single task will get assigned to required person at different stages...this will help us reduce the cluter in the task list For refactoring it; I am trying to create "CreateOrUpdateTaskAndWaitForCompletition" activity...so that I can use this component multiple times as per given workflow. Create/Wait branch of my activity works fine; as I have the correlation token within the activity. But when I try two instances of this activity; task is created in first activity and it needs to be updated in second instance where I dont have the correlation token. In the second instance; (Update/Wait branch) I have tried updating the task through code activity but its not working and I am getting "This task is currently locked by a running workflow and cannot be edited" exception! Can I use UpdateTask activity without correlation token? Can I programmatically update the workflow task? Can I programmatically unlock the workflow task?

Because with 32bits signed 2^31 = overflows to 29. Which works! Prototype in PHP $r = $x - (($x - $y) & (($x - $y) / (29))); Actual code for LEADS (you can only do one math function PER LINE!!! AHHHH!!!) I'll try to make this simple. I need to find the max values between two numbers without being able to use a IF or any conditional statement. In order to find the the MAX values I can only perform the following functions Divide, Multiply, Subtract, Add, NOT, AND ,OR Let's say I have two numbers A = 60; B = 50; Now if A is always greater than B it would be simple to find the max value MAX = (A - B) + B; ex. 10 = (60 - 50) 10 + 50 = 60 = MAX Problem is A is not always greater than B. I cannot perform ABS, MAX, MIN or conditional checks with the scripting applicaiton I am using. Is there any way possible using the limited operation above to find a value VERY close to the max?
