• which is better in general, map or vector in c++?

  As I know that accessing an element in vector takes constant time while in map takes logarithmic time. However, storing a map takes less memory than storing a vector. Therefore, I want to ask which one is better in general? I'm considering using one of those two in my program, which has about 1000 elements. I plan to use 3 dimensional vector, which would take 1000x1000x1000 elements.

  I am newish to MVC and understand all the great things about it, including the reasons why voewstate isnt available, however there are some circumstances where I think having some kind of view state will be quite handy, In my case I am thinking about list pages with various search filters that can be applied to the list. Would it be worthwhile implementing some kind of pseudo viewstate to hold this info in some cases? or is there a better solution? Any examples out there? Your comments appreciated.

I understand the concept of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" but when does that become losing pride in code you've already written and what does it say for refactoring.

  I will probably start with C and then Lisp. Although I started programming in C, I did not program in it as much as I want. It's fun working with the low level stuff. Learning C helped me a lot when I started working. I've only started learning Lisp now and I found it amazing that the concepts it supported from the very start are still very relevant today.   I'm using .NET WebBrowser control. How do I know when a web page is fully loaded? I want to know when the browser is not fetching any more data. (The moment when IE writes 'Done' in its status bar...). Notes: The DocumentComplete/NavigateComplete events might occur multiple times for a web site containing multiple frames. The browser ready state doesn't solve the problem either. I have tried checking the number of frames in the frame collection and then count the number of times I get DocumentComplete event but this doesn't work either. this.WebBrowser.IsBusy doesn't work either. It is always 'false' when checking it in the Document Complete handler.

I'm currently using MySQL, but before I make a decision to switch I want to know: How easy is scaling horizontally? Is it easier to manage than an SQL based solution? Would the above data I want to store be too hard to do schema-free? When I think association, I immediately think RDBMSs; can data be stored in something like CouchDB but still have some kind of association as stated above?

  One particular problem I was having was using ${word_selection} in an Eclipse PDT template. I was recently trying to use some code templates with Eclipse PDT 2.1 to speed up some common tasks. We use a lot of getters/setters, so I wrote the following template. function get${word_selection}() { return $$this->getData('${word_selection}'); } function set${word_selection}($$${word_selection}) { $$this->setData('${word_selection}', $$${word_selection}); } I named the template "getset" and the only way I know to use the Code Assist is to type: "getset" then hit my code assist keys (I have it set to Esc, but I think the default was Ctrl+Space). The problem is, this doesn't actually let me select a word to be used by the ${word_selection}. how do I type in my template name, hit the key combo, and have a word selected all at the same time? I also want to know what kinds of templates people have set up and any other tips for using templates to speed of programming.
