    Hello, I just found out by using TCPView that one of my svchost.exe had an http connection in "CLOSE_WAIT" to a strange ip address, although no other visible program was running. With the help of Process Explorer I discovered that this svchost was using the WebClient windows service. I'm wondering how I can figure out what program used WebClient to connect to this ip, in order to determine if it's malware.

    Hi I am beginner for SSH stuff but i want to dump a big sql file and for that i need to be able to navigate to the appropriate path in my hosting account. I managed to login to SSH and i typed pwdbut it gave me a shared hosting pathway like /home/content/r/o/s/roshanjonah How Can i go to the path where i upload my files to...i use FTP but in FTP path it just shows / so i cannot go any further back than that...so using SSH how can i come to this path in ftp...   • Windows RemoteApp deploying software updates, is there a better way?

    We provide an application as a service, over Windows RemoteApp. It's nearly impossible to deploy updates to the software, though, because if even a single user is online then the file is in-use and cannot be replaced. Is there some way to make this possible or easier? If it were possible, I'd be deploying probably 2-3 updates per day. As it is, I sometimes have to go all week without deploying one.

    Hello, I was discussing with my others personalities, and came up with a conflict. In http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc938440.aspx , says that FAT32 is faster when using smaller volumes. Ok separate disk, will give more performance than same disk. But did anyone test this? Scenario 1 : Separate hard disk FAT32 (small volume) Scenario 2 : Separate hard disk NTFS which one will win? minimum gain?

  • Does anyone know about nagios plugin that uses nmap and does port checking??

    Hi to all. I need to monitor open and closed ports on dozens of hosts. I've found a Nagios plugin that does what I need, but I would have to use this script through nrpe. Some of the hosts are powered by linux and they all have perl installed. But some of them are Windows machines, and it's not convenient for me to install perl on every one of them. That's why I can not use this plugin. I hope that there's Nagios plugin that uses nmap, or something similar, so it could check ports on every host remotely, without installing plugins on remote hosts, only on server.

    Seagate has released a product called the Momentus XT Solid State Hybrid Drive. This looks exactly like what Windows ReadyBoost attempts to do with software at the OS level: Pairing the benefits of a large hard drive together with the performance of solid-state flash memory. Does the Momentus XT out-perform a similar ad-hoc pairing of a decent hard drive with similar flash memory storage under Windows ReadyBoost? Other than the obvious "a hardware implementation ought to be faster than a software implementation", why would ReadyBoost not be able to perform as well as such a hybrid device?

  • Does scheduling recycling app pool in IIS7 help the server conserve memory better?

    Hello, I have a VPS (IIS7 with Win 2008) It's got: 40 websites and a SQL Server 2008 powering them with only 2 Gigs of RAM. None of the sites are mission critical, they are all just demos. I often have ram issues on the server because each site has does caching and generally uses a lot of memory. Would it make sense to set the application pools to recycle every 3 hours? I'm sure this would free up any memory leaks or processes left "hanging" Are there any other tips on this? Thank you very much!, Aron

  • Wireless technology - which is better: more single radio APs or less dual radio APs?

    We are currently talking to vendors of wireless solutions for a wireless deployment in a university campus with some 5000 students. One vendor is offering us a Cisco solution with a WLC 5508 controller and 69 2x2 MIMO Dual-band/Dual radio APs (Aironet AP 1042 model) The other vendor is offering us an Aruba solution with a 3600 controller and 96 2x2 MIMO dual band BUT single radio APs (Aruba AP93) Both vendors are charging 82.000 US$ (support, 3y service contracts, switches and additional required options all included of course) The Aruba vendor is trying to convince me that 96 single radio APs will give us more connection/users/capacity then the 69 dual radio APs. I have my doubts about that and since it is my core competence-domain I wanted to ask here the opinion of people that have a more profound knowledge and experience in this area. When you talk to vendors it's often hard to get objective information. So try to answer only if you are sure and please mention it if you are affiliated with one of the vendors. I appreciate all useful help and want to thank you in advance for the effort!

  • SCSI vs SATA? Is SCSI "actually" better?

    Well, I was talking with a guy about servers the other day. I was a bit shocked whenever I asked him if there was any significant difference between SCSI and SATA and why he always uses SCSI. (note, I'm not sure if by SCSI he meant SAS) He told me that SCSI is always faster and that the drives are always more reliable.. I mean, this seems like a bold statement. He told me something about how SCSI will always be faster than SATA because the OS sends the SCSI (controller?) a request to get a file and it will build the file inside of the SCSI controller, instead of searching all over the disk.. which I do not understand how that would work, so I figure it is BS. SAS and SATA currently have equivalent data rate speeds.. Is there any true backing for his reasoning that SCSI is always faster and more reliable than SATA?

  • Tomato vs X-Wrt Wireless Router Firmware - which is better?

    A few years ago, I've switched over from DD-WRT to Tomato and I haven't looked back since. Before I did, I poked around with OpenWRT but found it too confusing or annoying to use (and I'm a CS major and setup and configured Linux servers using SSH). I'm probably not going back to DD-WRT because of all the controversy but I was wondering how X-Wrt is nowadays? From the screenshots, it looks a lot more featured packed than Tomato and that definitely has its appeal. Then again, simplicity has its advantages to. Any thoughts?

  • I used "autoconf6" (used to configure IPV6) on an AIX 6 target and I don't know how to change it back.

    So I got curious and ran autoconf6 and now I can't figure out how to undo the changes that were made. I have tried using smitty to modify the en0 interface but have had no luck getting it back to it's old configuration.   • What would be better in my case - apache, nginx or lighttpd ?

    Hey everybody, I'm writing a php site that's expected to get about 200-300 concurrent users browsing it. When initializing the application will load about 30 php classes, some 10 maybe 15 images and a couple of css files. So my question is what else can I do (except optimizing my code and using apc/eaccelerator for php) to get as close as possible to those numbers of concurrent users ? Currently we haven't chosen a server for the site to be hosted on but most probably it'll be a VPS Dual core + 2 or maybe 4gb ram. Is it possible for such a server to handle that load ? Also how could I test it myself and be sure that it'll be able to handle it ? Thanks in advance, Me

My ideal setup to keep my credits going would be some kind of media box that keeps and manages my music and videos etc. Ideally, I'd like this to be a headless box that I could just telnet into and have it run torrents that way.   • How to make Synaptics touchpad work better on Linux?

    I have Debian Squeeze currently installed on a Samsung N250 netbook with a Synaptics touchpad. These touchpads are, generally, good, and everything works perfectly on Windows. The support is extremely sucky on Linux through. Of course it has all the cool features like two-finger scrolling, but the cursor (or whatever is a replacement for cursor when scrolling) is trembling awfully. It trembles when I just keep the finger on touchpad, it shakes awfully if the finger is close to the top of touchpad, and when I'm scrolling with it (no matter with two fingers or one), the page shakes a lot too. None of this behavior is observed even in Windows XP with just the default drivers installed.   • My Macbook Pro wifi intermittently won't turn on sometimes after sleep, does anyone know how to solve this?

    Hello, My current-generation MacBook Pro 15" (10.6.5) intermittently has problems turning the wifi (airport) on. The usual symptom happens when I: Sleep the machine Open from sleep Wifi is off (the airport signal is blank) I click on airport icon-Turn Airport On, but nothing happens. I googled around a bit and found one recommended solution where I delete the "automatic" location and create a new one and enable the wifi, or I delete the "AirPort" from the location and add it back, but neither of these resolve the problem. I also called AppleCare and they had me delete /Library/SystemConfiguration and restart, but that hasn't solved the problem. I have to reboot, which is very painful. Does anyone have any idea of how to solve this?
