• Command-line way to send keystrokes to a window open on a different X-session

  I have a Ubuntu desktop open and logged on, on my main machine. I am then also logging in to this machine from a remote computer, using X2go which creates a new X-session. I have a libreoffice file open on the original session. I want to save this file and close it - but from the remote machine! (Both sessions have same user logged in; I can sudo if needed) I have tried using xdotool search but this fails to find the window. Is there a way to do what I want from this second session? I can see the process with ps -A I can even see the open file with lsof! How can I do a "save-and-close" on it?

• Chrome's new window disappear from desktop

  I'm having this problem with Chrome on a Windows 7 x86 machine. I'm using Chrome for a locally hosted intranet web app. In the web app, there's frequent use of new window which popup, which works like a dialog box for the app. The problem started since yesterday. All the new windows doesn't appear on top and no where to be found on the desktop. But it does appear on the taskbar. Clicking the button on the taskbar doesn't bring up the window as well. I've also tried Alt+Space, then Move, it doesn't work. I only found 2 way to bring it up, Maximize or Show as tab. What could have caused this and how should I fix it? Thanks EDIT: I've configure to not group taskbar buttons. EDIT: I've just gone through the javascript of the button, it call window.open to display the popup. I can see the popup flicker and disappear. If I step through the code, the popup will display properly, sometime. Also, if I click the button twice, it will also display the popup, but at a much smaller size, less than 100x100

  In Ubuntu, how can I make Quanta Plus the default editor for PHP files? In Windows we just use the open with context menu the first time for any new types of files and check use this application for these type of files. After that the files always open up in checked application. I want to know if Ubuntu has a similar feature. Also, if I open 2 PHP files then two instance of Quanta Plus opens up. How can I get the secondary PHP files to open on another tab instead?

• Vim - dynamic list of open buffers in a window

  I've investigated a few ways to maintain a list of open buffers in Vim, and some of them are very good, but none of them seem to behave the way I'd like. It's very possible that nothing like what I want exists, and it can't hurt to ask. I've been using NERDTree in GVim, and I like the idea of putting the information in a slender left-hand window. • What is causing ocassional white windows on my Mac?

  Hello. I'm having a very strange problem with my Mac lately. When I'm working in an app and a new window pane or sheet is displayed, sometimes it comes up completely white. Once an app is having these problems, it will continue to bring up a blank screen for that particular window (although other windows work fine). After the app is relaunched, the window is fine again. What I'm noticing that's very strange is that although the interface turns completely white, the functions of the interface are still available. So I have to "navigate blindly" around the interface, until I can relaunch. This occurs throughout the operating system. Screenshots: This is what happened when I tried opening the File menu in Lightroom app. What happened to me on Lynda.com (in Firefox) after selecting the "Software..." dropdown. (All other dropdowns were fine. Reloading the page fixed it.) When I was decompressing a file, The Unarchiver launched and opened this white window. It still decompressed the file. This is what happened one time when I opened Finder (with TotalFinder) to my Downloads folder. This is something I've never seen before. This just started happening lately. What could be the problem? Thanks for your help. NOTE: since new users are not allowed to post images, just image blank white interface elements. • Anonymous file sharing without login window, from Windows 7 server to XP clients

  I'm trying to provide machines on a small LAN with read-only, anonymous access to files shared from a Windows 7 workstation (let's call it WIN7SVR). In particular, I don't want clients to have to deal with a login window when they navigate to, e.g., \\WIN7SVR in Windows Explorer, but we do not have a domain and synchronizing accounts between the server and clients would be intractable. There are both Windows 7 and Windows XP clients that need access to these shares. I got this working for Windows 7 clients by just enabling the Guest account on WIN7SVR and setting appropriate share permissions. Other Windows 7 machines automatically try logging in as Guest, it seems, so their users don't have to deal with the login window. The problem is with the XP clients--they can access the server if the user enters "Guest" in the login window, but I don't want users to have to do that. So from what I gather, in my limited understanding of Windows file sharing, this boils down to granting null sessions access to file shares on WIN7SVR. But I've had no success so far on that front. I've tried all the following in the local group policy editor on the Windows 7 server: Set Network access: Let Everyone permissions apply to anonymous users to Enabled Set Network access: Restrict anonymous access to Named Pipes and Shares to Disabled Added the names of corresponding shares to Network access: Shares that can be accessed anonymously Added "ANONYMOUS LOGON" to Access this computer from the network under User Rights Assignment Any advice would be highly appreciated... I'm mostly a Unix guy, so I feel somewhat out of my league with Windows file sharing. I do understand that any sort of anonymous access to file shares isn't generally ideal from a security standpoint, but it's the most practical solution for us in this case, and access to our network is well enough controlled that share-level security isn't a concern.

• Firefox window disappears

  Now this is odd. At some point in the last half hour, my Firefox window disappeared. I didn't notice, as I was working in another program at the time. No Firefox icon shows up with Alt-Tab, and no Firefox listing shows up under the Applications tab in the task manager. There is a Firefox entry under the Processes tab. Normally, I probably wouldn't have noticed, just opened Firefox up again, but I'm listening to an Internet radio station and the stream never stopped. When I did open a new Firefox window, it showed up in the Task Manager's applications tab. I'm running Windows XP, and my Firefox has the add-ons Adblock Plus, BetterPrivacy, Cert Viewer Plus, DOM Inspector, Firebug, Greasemonkey, Java Quick Starter, Live HTTP headers, Microsoft .NET Framework Assistant, NoScript, WebDeveloper and XPather. The radio station is Slacker; it's never given me any trouble before, and I've been using it for months. I don't think there was anything unusual in my open tabs; just a few static pages at non-sketchy sites like Java APIs, plus GMail and the aforementioned Slacker. Googling brought up a handful of similar-but-not-quite-the-same errors, none of which had useful resolutions. Does anyone know how to bring that window back and/or prevent this from happening again?

• Applescript won't open applications on my external monitor

  I'm trying to open a new MacVim window with Applescript, and have found partial success with this: do shell script "cd \"~/code/application\"; ~/bin/mvim > /dev/null 2>&1" This works fine, and opens a new MacVim window with it's working directory set to ~/code/application. BUT it always opens on the screen of my laptop, not on the external monitor with the currently active space where I am working. Is there a way to get MacVim to open in the current space? • C# lost local variable window from debug (f11 step by step)

  I was running my code (visual studio 2010) and I accidentally closed the window that shows the state of variables step by step. I think it was called locals but I can't find it on any of the menu option. Would appreciate any help on this, I didn't realize how handy it was until now - The following link is what my local window looks like when selecting debug/start debugging/selecting breakpoints, which I'm don't find helpful. • How to force "Windows Explorer" to open new folders in the same window

  I have been searching for an answer to this question for a very long time. I have checked the "open folders in the same window" radio button in the general tab of folder options. I have also been told to uncheck the launch as seperate processes button in the view tab of folder options. I'm thinking some how this must be a registry issue. Anyone know a registry hack that will fix this problem and force windows explorer to open folders in the same window. I'm sick to death of having so many windows open. Im running Windows 7 Ultimate Beta 7100.

  Hi folks, I've got an application on Codeplex. It's based on some other free open source code which comes with a BSD license. As such, people keep asking if they can use my open source code/library in their commercial apps. I want them to be able to, provided they give credit to the source app (the project which i based my code, from .. and that has the BSD license) and also my code. They can take my code and do whatever (fork it, etc).. Just make sure they give credit, of course. So - what license could I use? Currently, I've set it to be GPL .. so is that ok? NOTE: Yes yes, I know that any answers are not from a lawyer and it's just all personal thoughts and I need to consult a special lawyer if I want some professional advice, etc. etc. I'm happy to take that risk, here.

  Problems: One of my colleague is having a wired issue today with Search Service Application in SharePoint2010.After he created the Search Service Application, he could not browse to the Search Administration (http://ybbest:5555/searchadministration.aspx?appid=6508b5cc-e19a-4bdc-89b3-05d984999e3c) ,he got 404 page not found every time he browse to the page. Analysis After some basic trouble-shooting, it turns out we can browse to any other page in the search application ,e.g. Manage Content Sources(/_admin/search/listcontentsources.aspx) or Manage Crawl Rules(/_admin/search/managecrawlrules.aspx).After some more research , we think some of the web parts in the Search Administration page might cause the problem. Solution You need to activate a hidden feature using #Enable-SPFeature SearchAdminWebParts -url <central admin URL> Enable-SPFeature SearchAdminWebParts -url http://ybbest:5555 If the feature is already enabled, you need to disable the feature first and then enable it. • ASP.NET JavaScript Routing for ASP.NET MVC–Constraints

A routing constraint is essentially a way for the routing engine to filter out route patterns based on the day from the URL. For example, if I have a route where all the parameters are required, I could use a constraint on the required parameters to say that the parameter is non-empty. Here’s what the constraint would look like: Notice that this is a class that inherits from IRouteConstraint, which is an interface provided by System.Web.Routing. The match method returns true if the value is a match (and can be further processed by the routing rules) or false if it does not match (and the route will be matched further along the route collection). Because routing constraints are so essential to the route matching process, it was important that they be part of my JavaScript routing engine. But the problem is that we need to somehow represent the constraint in JavaScript. I made a design decision early on that you MUST put this constraint into JavaScript to match a route. I didn’t want to have server interaction for the URL generation, like I’ve seen in so many applications. While this is easy to maintain, it causes maintenance issues in my opinion. So the way constraints work in JavaScript is that the constraint as an object type definition is set on the route manager. When a route is created, a new instance of the constraint is created with the specific parameter. In its current form the constraint function MUST return a function that takes the route data and will return true or false. You will see the NotEmpty constraint in a bit. Another piece to the puzzle is that you can have the JavaScript exist as a string in your application that is pulled in when the routing JavaScript code is generated. There is a simple interface, IJavaScriptAddition, that I have added that will be used to output custom JavaScript. Let’s put it all together. Here is the NotEmpty constraint. There’s a few things at work here. The constraint is called “notEmpty” in JavaScript. When you add the constraint to a parameter in your C# code, the route manager generator will look for the JsConstraint attribute to look for the name of the constraint type name and fallback to the class name. For example, if I didn’t apply the “JsConstraint” attribute, the constraint would be called “NotEmpty”. The JavaScript code essentially adds a function to the “constraintTypeDefs” object on the “notEmpty” property (this is how constraints are added to routes). The function returns another function that will be invoked with routing data. Here’s how you would use the NotEmpty constraint in C# and it will work with the JavaScript routing generator. The only catch to using route constraints currently is that the following is not supported: The constraint will work in C# but is not supported by my JavaScript routing engine. (I take pull requests so if you’d like this… go ahead and implement it).   I just wanted to take this post to explain a little bit about the background on constraints. • Errors when installing Open Office

  I followed the first set of instructions on this page to install Open Office: How to install Open Office? However, the last step which says to change the CHMOD of a folder, I got an error saying that the directory does not exist. Open Office now appears in my Ubuntu start menu, but clicking on it does nothing. I tried a reboot. Below is what I could copy from my terminal. I am running the latest Ubuntu. I have not uninstalled Libreoffice as suggested somewhere. The reason is that in the Ubuntu software centre, Libre office appears to be made up of several components and I don't know which ones to remove (or all maybe?). • MySQL Workbench will not open on my Ubuntu 12.04

  I have install mysql-workbench version 5.2.38+dfsg-3 via Ubuntu Software Center on my Ubuntu 12.04 laptop for some week ago, This work fine until now!
