• Rails Installed But Not Working

  Folks, Yesterday I installed Rails 3.2 on Ubuntu 12.10 and created a new project in order to check it. It was working OK. Today I tried to create a new project and got the message bellow (Portuguese version): O programa 'rails' pode ser encontrado nos seguintes pacotes: * rails * ruby-railties-3.2 Tente: sudo apt-get install <pacote selecionado> Something like: The program 'rails' could not be found in the follow packages: ... ... Try: sudo apt-get install <selected package> I run the command gem list and all the gems are listed, including Rails one. I tried to search on the web for a solution, but haven't found any. • Connect to an elevated COM server from a non-elevated process

  We have a program which launches a child process that hosts a local COM server, which for various reasons must be launched elevated. Everything works fine so long as both the parent and the child process are elevated. However, we also want to run when the parent process is non-elevated. Launching the child process results in a UAC dialog (which is acceptable), and the child appears to start correctly and successfully calls CoRegisterClassObject. However, the parent process gets REGDB_E_CLASSNOTREG when calling CoCreateInstance with the same CLSID. I assume this is some sort of permissions issue. How can I register my class in the elevated server to allow it to be called from a non-elevated process.

• How to create a persistent connection using AS3 Sockets for a chat client

  I want to create a chat client in flash/flex for a chat server,something like a MUD/MOO client but I'm unable to create a persistent connection . I've been using the AS3 Socket class,but I'm getting disconnected from the server side,soon after the connection is made but the client still shows the 'connected' property as true .The server is asynchronous and was written in python using asyncore/asynchat, it works fine with most open source MOO/MUD clients . I tried connecting my program to a simple synchronous echo server,here both read and write worked fine with no disconnections from either side . So my question is how do I make a persistent connection with the server?

  I am trying to write a program that will verify that all cookies sent out from the machine are in fact going to the domain they came from. This is part of a larger security project to detect cookie based malicious attacks (such as XSS). The main snag for this project is actually detecting the out-going cookies. Can someone point me in the right direction for monitoring out-going HTTP traffic for cookie information?   I need to know if the user is currently viewing the current tab or not in Google Chrome. I tried to use the events blur and focus binded to the window, but only the blur seems to be working. window.addEventListener('focus', function() { document.title = 'focused'; }); window.addEventListener('blur', function() { document.title = 'not focused'; }); The focus event works weird, only sometimes. If I switch to another tab and back, focus event won't activate. But if I click on the address bar and then back on the page, it will. Or if I switch to another program and then back to Chrome it will activate if the tab is currently focused.

• C: Cannot declare pointer inside if statement

  Hi, I have a pointer which points to a function. I would like to: if (mode == 0) { const unsigned char *packet = read_serial_packet(src, &len); } else { const unsigned char *packet = read_network_packet(fd, &len); } But I cannot do it because my compiler complains when I first use the pointer later in the code. error: 'packet' undeclared (first use in this function) This is strange. It worked without the if statement, but now I need my program to be able to get data from different sources. Isn't it possible to do this? I think so. If it isn't, is there any other simple way to get what I am trying? Thanks a lot.

  Hi all i am a junior level SQL developer. I have a situation where I have a text file with 1100 lines of a search result with each line containing a file path and a stored procedure associated with that file. Each line has a structure like the one below: abc\def\ghi\***.cs(40): jkl=******.*****.******, "proc_pqrst", parms); Where abc\def\ghi\***.cs is file path of the file ***.cs. The stored procedure names begin with proc_. I have to extract the ***.cs and the corresponding stored procedure name begining with proc_ and write them to a .xls file. Can some body help me in writing the parsing program to do this? Also can I get a detailed outline on where should I write the code for c# and where should I compile it? This could be a great help as I don't have any knowledge of C#. Thank you, BK.

  I'd like to write a .NET application in F# to automate some of the processing of my e-mails. For example, when an order comes in my program might compute a new htpasswd from the e-mail's contents, upload it to our web server and reply to the customer with login details. How do people do this? I've tried Outlook 2007 automation but it just prompts the user for security and my attempts to get it to stop doing this have failed so I cannot automate anything with it. Is there a .NET-friendly e-mail client I can use more easily? This has been so tedious that I'm seriously considering writing my own .NET-friendly e-mail client...

When I start looking at queries which our ERP sending to database I see a lot of totally needlessly subselect queries inside main queries. As I am not member of developers which is creator of program we using, they do not like much when I criticize they code and job. Let say they do not taking my review as serious statements. So I asking you few questions about subselect in SQL Does subselect is taking a lot of more time then left outer joins? Does exists any blog, article or anything where I subselect is recommended not to use ? How I can prove that if we avoid subselesct in query that query is going to be faster ? • Getting ssh to execute a command in the background on target machine

  This is a follow-on question to the How do you use ssh in a shell script? question. If I want to execute a command on the remote machine that runs in the background on that machine, how do I get the ssh command to return? When I try to just include the ampersand (&) at the end of the command it just hangs. The exact form of the command looks like this: ssh user@target "cd /some/directory; program-to-execute &" Any ideas? One thing to note is that logins to the the target machine always produce a text banner and I have ssh keys set up so no password is required.

  Hi All, I want to enable Access for assistive devices in System Preferences programmatically. But Problem is that my application is not running as root user and i do not want my application to be as root user and also should not ask for any authentication in between. I want to tap all keyboard events globally. I am using CGEventTapCreate() for the same.In the documentation of CGEventTapCreate() API it is mentioned that, Event taps receive key up and key down events if one of the following conditions is true: The current process is running as the root user. Access for assistive devices is enabled. In Mac OS X v10.4 & later, you can enable this feature using System Preferences, Universal Access panel, Keyboard view. I tried manually by checking the Enable Access for assistive devices from System Preference and it gives me expected output. So is there any way to do the same via program without asking for authentication and also application is not running as root user? Thanks, Dheeraj.

  I have a datagridview populated with some Names, I want to perform a check of all the Name in another database with the Names in datagridview and add the Surnames to the adjacent cell when a match is found, this I am achieving by string compare method. My Problem is that due to typing inconsistencies & at times with two people having same names some of the names are not being adjudged properly. What I want is to give user the choice to either choose one of the names present in Datagridview which they consider is best match or enter both First Name & Surname in a new row. To achieve this I want the program to wait until user has clicked on one of the rows in the datagridview. Is there a way to wait to this effect? Thanks Jhon

• Why can't my main class see the array in my calender class

  This is a homework problem. I'm already 5 days late and can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.. this is my 1st semester in Java and my first post on this site Here is the assignment.. Create a class called Calendar. The class should contain a variable called events that is a String array. The array should be created to hold 5 elements. Use a constant value to specify the array size. Do not hard code the array size. Initialize the array in the class constructor so that each element contains the string “ – No event planned – “. The class should contain a method called CreateEvent. This method should accept a String argument that contains a one-word user event and an integer argument that represents the day of the week. Monday should be represented by the number 1 and Friday should be represented by the number 5. Populate the events array with the event info passed into the method. Although the user will input one-word events, each event string should prepend the following string to each event: event_dayAppoinment: (where event_day is the day of the week) For example, if the user enters 1 and “doctor” , the first array element should read: Monday Appointment: doctor If the user enters 2 and “PTA” , the second array element should read: Tuesday Appointment: PTA Write a driver program (in a separate class) that creates and calls your Calendar class. Then use a loop to gather user input. Ask for the day (as an integer) and then ask for the event (as a one word string). Pass the integer and string to the Calendar object’s CreateEvent method. The user should be able enter 0 – 5 events. If the user enters -1, the loop should exit and your application should print out all the events in a tabular format. Your program should not allow the user to enter invalid values for the day of the week. Any input other than 1 – 5 or -1 for the day of the week would be considered invalid. Notes: When obtaining an integer from the user, you will need to use the nextInt() method on your Scanner object. When obtaining a string from a user, you will need to use the next() method on your Scanner object.   Hi All, Wanting to see the output of the compiler (in assembly) for some C code, I wrote a simple program in C and generated its assembly file using gcc. • Hex Decompilers for PIC

  I've faced to a problem with a PIC Micro controller. I have a micro-controller programmed by me long time ago and I lost the relevant source code and the schematic diagrams. Now I need to invert the value of a port. I can do this using some NOT gates but it is a big hassle to do so. or alternatively I will need to write the whole program back. I don't expect to see the code back in PIC C or MikroC. Having an understandable assembly code would be sufficient. So do anyone has any experience on a good HEX decompiler that I can use for this purpose? Any comments based on your experience? :)

  This questions is semi-based of this one here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/582336/how-can-you-profile-a-python-script I thought that this would be a great idea to run on some of my programs. Although profiling from a batch file as explained in the aforementioned answer is possible, I think it would be even better to have this option in Eclipse. At the same time, making my entire program a function and profiling it would mean I have to alter the source code? How can I configure eclipse such that I have the ability to run the profile command on my existing programs? Any tips or suggestions are welcomed!

• What's the diffrence btw System property and system environment variable

  Hi all I am not clear about this. When I run a java App or run an Applet in applet viewer,( in the IDE environment), System.getProperty("java.class.path") give me the same as System.getenv("CLASSPATH"), which is the CLASSPATH env variable defined. But when I deploy my applet to webserver and access it from the same computer as a client, I get different result for the two (System.getProperty("java.class.path") only point to jre home and System.getenv("CLASSPATH") return null). And here is some other things that make me wonder: For the applet part, the env var JAVA_HOME, i get the same result when deploying the applet in a browser as well as Applet Viewer. And if I define myself a env variable at system level, and use getenv("envName") the result is null. Is there anyway I can define one and get it in my java program? Thanks a lot Regards K.

  Hi, running Sinatra 1.0, I wanted to add a database table to my program. In my Rakefile I have a task task :environment do ActiveRecord::Base.establish_connection(YAML::load(File.open('config/database.yml'))["development"]) end I have a migration task in my namespace that calls the migration code: namespace :related_products do desc "run any migrations we may have in db/migrate" task :migrate => :environment do ActiveRecord::Migrator.migrate('db/migrate', ENV["VERSION"] ? ENV["VERSION"].to_i : nil ) end My console pukes out an error when the call to ActiveRecord::MIgrator.migrate() is made. rake aborted! undefined method `info' for nil:NilClass The migration code itself is pretty simple... and presents me with no clues as to what this missing info class is. class CreateStores < ActiveRecord::Migration def self.up create_table :stores do |t| t.string :name t.string :access_url t.timestamps end end def self.down drop_table :stores end end I am a little mystified here and am looking for some clues as to what might be wrong.   How can I determine the compile options used to compile an IBM Enterprise COBOL program by looking at the load module? When a dump is issued they are listed as follows: Compile Options for PROGXX: ADV, ARITH(COMPAT), AWO, NOCICS, CODEPAGE(01140), DATA(31), NODATEPROC, NODBCS, NODLL, NODYNAM, NOEXPORTALL, NOFASTSRT, INTDATE(LILIAN), NUMPROC(NOPFD), NOOPTIMIZE, OUTDD(SYSOUT), PGMNAME(COMPAT), RENT, RMODE(AN NOSQL, SQLCCSID, SSRANGE, NOTEST, NOTHREAD, TRUNC(OPT), XMLPARSE(XMLSS), YEARWINDOW(1900), ZWB so I presume they must be tucked away somewhere in the load module. I want to scan a load library checking that each load was compiled with some specific options to ensure compliance to shop standard (eg. SSRANGE). Any ideas would be appreciated.

• my realtime network receiving time differs a lot, anyone can help?

  I wrote a program using tcpip sockets to send commands to a device and receive the data from the device. The data size would be around 200kB to 600KB. The computer is directly connected to the device using a 100MB network. I found that the sending packets always arrive at the computer at 100MB/s speed (I have debugging information on the unit and I also verified this using some network monitoring software), but the receiving time differs a lot from 40ms to 250ms, even if the size is the same (I have a receiving buffer about 700K and the receiving window of 8092 bytes and changing the window size does not change anything). The phenomena differs also on different computers, but on the same computer the problem is very stable. For example, receiving 300k bytes on computer a would be 40ms, but it may cost 200ms on another computer. I have disabled firewall, antivirus, all other network protocol except the TCP/IP. Any experts on this can give me some hints?

• Touching an object in a tweened animation?

  I'm having trouble porting a simple game I developed for the iPhone over to Android. The game has an animated ball which moves from Point A to Point B. The user must touch the ball before it reaches point B or lose the game. This was easy to implement on the iPhone using Core Animation since I could locate the current position of the ball by accessing its animation layer. In Android, I attempted to recreate the game using tweened animation and represented the ball as a Drawable. My issue is that I can't determine if the user is touching the spot because the Drawable apparently bounds do not update as the ball visually moves - making the program think the ball is always in its original position. While searching these forums I saw an Android team dev. confirm that you can't get the current location in a tweened animation but offered no solution for a workaround. Can I accomplish this on the Android using my current approach? If not, what approach should I use? Best regards, Michael
