  • Pause and Resume AsyncTasks? (Android)

    - by Matt Swanson
    I have an AsyncTask that acts as a countdown timer for my game. When it completes the countdown it displays the out of time end screen and it also updates the timer displayed on the screen. Everything works fine, except I need to be able to pause and resume this when the pause button in the game is pressed. If I cancel it and try to re-execute it, it crashes with an IllegalStateException. If I cancel it and instantiate a new AsyncTask in its place the old one begins to run again and the new one runs at the same time. Is there a way to cancel/pause the timer and restart it using AsyncTasks or is there a different way I should be going about doing this?

    - by Harish
    We are using a JEE application and we are right now using Informix DB.Our code hits the DB with queries like "select first 10 * from test" Now as far as I know Oracle does not support 'first 10 *' kind of statements.We have more than 1000 queries like this.Should we manually change this or can have some manual customization?

  • A lock could not obtained within the time requested issue

    - by Wayne Daly
    The title is the error I'm getting, when I click load my program freezes. I assume its because I'm doing a statement inside a statement, but from what I see its the only solution to my issue. By loading I want to just repopulate the list of patients, but to do so I need to do their conditions also. The code works, the bottom method is what I'm trying to fix. I think the issue is that I have 2 statements open but I am not sure. load: public void DatabaseLoad() { try { String Name = "Wayne"; String Pass= "Wayne"; String Host = "jdbc:derby://localhost:1527/Patients"; Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection( Host,Name, Pass); PatientList.clear(); Statement stmt8 = con.createStatement(ResultSet.TYPE_SCROLL_INSENSITIVE, ResultSet.CONCUR_UPDATABLE); String SQL8 = "SELECT * FROM PATIENTS"; ResultSet rs8 = stmt8.executeQuery( SQL8 ); ArrayList<PatientCondition> PatientConditions1 = new ArrayList(); while(rs8.next()) { PatientConditions1 = LoadPatientConditions(); } Statement stmt = con.createStatement(ResultSet.TYPE_SCROLL_INSENSITIVE, ResultSet.CONCUR_UPDATABLE); String SQL = "SELECT * FROM PATIENTS"; ResultSet rs = stmt.executeQuery( SQL ); while(rs.next()) { int id = (rs.getInt("ID")); String name = (rs.getString("NAME")); int age = (rs.getInt("AGE")); String address = (rs.getString("ADDRESS")); String sex = (rs.getString("SEX")); String phone = (rs.getString("PHONE")); Patient p = new Patient(id, name, age, address, sex, phone, PatientConditions1); PatientList.add(p); } UpdateTable(); UpdateAllViews(); DefaultListModel PatientListModel = new DefaultListModel(); for (Patient s : PatientList) { PatientListModel.addElement(s.getAccountNumber() + "-" + s.getName()); } PatientJList.setModel(PatientListModel); } catch(SQLException err) { System.out.println(err.getMessage()); } } This is the method that returns the arraylist of patient conditions public ArrayList LoadPatientConditions() { ArrayList<PatientCondition> PatientConditionsTemp = new ArrayList(); try { String Name = "Wayne"; String Pass= "Wayne"; String Host = "jdbc:derby://localhost:1527/Patients"; Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection( Host,Name, Pass); Statement stmt = con.createStatement(ResultSet.TYPE_SCROLL_INSENSITIVE, ResultSet.CONCUR_UPDATABLE); String SQL = "SELECT * FROM PATIENTCONDITIONS"; ResultSet rs5 = stmt.executeQuery( SQL ); int e = 0; while(rs5.next()) { e++; String ConName = (rs5.getString("CONDITION")); PatientCondition k = new PatientCondition(e,ConName); PatientConditionsTemp.add(k); } } catch(SQLException err) { System.out.println(err.getMessage()); } return PatientConditionsTemp; }

  • use boolean value for loop

    - by Leslie
    So technically a boolean is True (1) or False(0)...how can I use a boolean in a loop? so if FYEProcessing is False, run this loop one time, if FYEProcessing is true, run it twice: for (Integer i=0; i<FYEProcessing; ++i){ CreatePaymentRecords(TermDates, FYEProcessing); }

  • Playing around with Eclipse features - Project files are now hidden?

    - by Daddy Warbox
    I don't even remember how, but somehow I managed to make all of my project's source files hidden in Eclipse's Package and Project Explorer panels. Go figure. 'Show Filtered Children (alt+click)' temporarily reveals the files, and only in Package Explorer can I double-click to reopen them from this view. They go back into hiding after I select another item, though. Plus, now I'm getting other annoyances, such as all of the folded non-hidden trees altogether expanding when I click on any item, and the entire file folder tree of my project now being shown in these panels (including my .svn subversion folders... which shouldn't be any of Eclipse's business, presently). Long story short, my Package/Project Explorers' just blew up on me, and I want to know how to fix this. Thanks in advance. P.S. What's a good guide I can use to learn my way around this silly contraption, anyway?

  • Inspect in memory hsqldb while debugging

    - by Albert
    We're using hdsqldb in memory to run junit tests which operate against a database. The db is setup before running each test via a spring configuration. All works fine. Now when a tests fails it can be convinient to be able to inspect the values in the in memory database. Is this possible? If so how? Our url is: jdbc.url=jdbc:hsqldb:mem:testdb;sql.enforce_strict_size=true The database is destroyed after each tests. But when the debugger is running the database should also still be alive. I've tried connecting with the sqldb databaseManager. That works, but I don't see any tables or data. Any help is highly appreciated!

  • Is it possible to build a JPA entity by extending a POJO?

    - by Freiheit
    Lets say I have the following POJO: public class MyThing { private int myNumber; private String myData; //assume getter/setter methods } Is it now possible to extend this POJO as a JPA entity? @Entity @Table(name = "my_thing") public class MyThingEntity extends MyThing implements Serializable { @Column(name = "my_number") //????????? @Column(name = "my_data") //???????? } I want to keep the POJO separate from the JPA entity. The POJO lives in a different project and is often used without a persistence layer, my project wants to persist it in a database and do so without the overhead of mapping from a POJO to an entity and back. I understand that JPA entities are POJOs, but in order to use it I would have to include a library that implements javax.persistence and the other projects using the same base object have no use for a persistence layer. Is this possible? Is this a good idea?

  • Controlling the order of PicoContainer startup

    - by Trejkaz
    I have been tasked with doing some refactoring work on how we start up applications. Basically we have a bunch of console apps which were depending on the GUI application startup code, causing bogus dependencies which have kick-on effects for which libraries we need to ship, and which dependencies other modules need to declare. So I have written a simple startup framework where I basically just throw a bunch of Runnable objects into a list and then run them in order - and it works. But I was thinking - we already have PicoContainer in our project, so all these things that need to be run on startup could potentially be thrown into a PicoContainer, and if they implement Startable they will start... But in some cases we want to specify the ordering between them. For example, I don't want any other component writing to the log before we write a header into the log indicating that the application is starting up. I know I can introduce ordering by introducing injection dependencies, but this feels like a hack in this case - I would need to add the log header writer as a dependency for every other component which might write to the log, which isn't great at all. Nonetheless it seems like it would be nice to control the order of PicoContainer startup, so is there perhaps some other way? Alternatively I could just keep it simple and stick to my list of Runnable. It does, after all, work.

  • How to shuffle pairs

    - by Jessy
    How to shuffle the elements in the pairs? The program below, generate all possible pairs and later shuffle the pairs. e.g. possible pairs before shuffle is ab,ac,ae,af..etc shuffled to ac,ae,af,ab...etc How to make it not only shuffled in pairs but within the elements in the pair itself? e.g. instead of ab, ac, how can I make ba, ac ? String[] pictureFile = {"a.jpg","b.jpg","c.jpg","d.jpg","e.jpg","f.jpg","g.jpg"}; List <String> pic1= Arrays.asList(pictureFile); ... ListGenerator pic2= new ListGenerator(pic1); ArrayList<ArrayList<Integer>> pic2= new ArrayList<ArrayList<Integer>>(); public class ListGenerator { public ListGenerator(List<String> pic1) { int size = pic1.size(); // create a list of all possible combinations for(int i = 0 ; i < size ; i++) { for(int j = (i+1) ; j < size ; j++) { ArrayList<Integer> temp = new ArrayList<Integer>(); temp.add(i); temp.add(j); pic2.add(temp); } } Collections.shuffle(pic2); } //This method return the shuffled list public ArrayList<ArrayList<Integer>> getList() { return pic2; } }

  • Tomcat reporting 404 error on all of newly deployed WAR files?

    - by dacracot
    I deployed a WAR file into $TOMCAT_HOME/webapps by copying the file into the directory, just like I've done a thousand times before. Tomcat detects the WAR and inflates it. I can traverse the directory tree on my server at the command line (it's Fedora). But when I address the webapp within my client machine's browser, I get nothing but 404 errors. This has happened to the last two deployments of completely separate WARs. The first was a replacement of an existing WAR. I first deleted the WAR and its inflated directory, and then copied in the WAR which inflated... 404. I deleted everything again, put back the previously working WAR from backup. It inflated and worked. The second was a completely new, never before deployed WAR... nothing but 404. Other WARs are working, but now I'm afraid to change anything until I know what is going on. Any clues? Edit: From my comment you can see that the logs included "SEVERE: Error listenerStart" after the WAR was deployed by Tomcat. There were no stack traces or other errors reported.

  • Merging two templates in iText

    - by Shaggy Frog
    Let's say I have two PDF templates created with Adobe Acrobat, which are both single-page, 8.5x11 documents. The first template (A.pdf) has content for the top half of the page. The second template (B.pdf) has content for the bottom half of the page. (It just so happens the content in both templates does not "overlap" each other.) I would like to use iText to take these two templates and create a single, "merged" template from it (C.pdf) that is only a single page (with A.pdf's content on the top half and B.pdf's content on the bottom half). (I do not want to "merge" these two files into a 2-page document. I need the final product to be a single page.) I will be running iText in a servlet environment (Tomcat 6) but I don't think that makes a difference to the answer. Is this possible?

  • Do we need HyperJAXB generated hashCode & equals methods?

    - by Marcus
    We've generated some (well a lot) of classes using HyperJAXB. All of the classes implement Equals and HashCode and have the implementation style below. Appears this code is never executed.. is there any particular reason we need this code? I'm looking to simplify the classes if we can. public boolean equals(Object object) { if (!(object instanceof MyClass)) { return false; } if (this == object) { return true; } final EqualsBuilder equalsBuilder = new JAXBEqualsBuilder(); equals(object, equalsBuilder); return equalsBuilder.isEquals(); } public void hashCode(HashCodeBuilder hashCodeBuilder) { hashCodeBuilder.append(this.getValue()); hashCodeBuilder.append(this.getId()); } public int hashCode() { final HashCodeBuilder hashCodeBuilder = new JAXBHashCodeBuilder(); hashCode(hashCodeBuilder); return hashCodeBuilder.toHashCode(); }

  • Is it considered a good/bad practice to configure tomcat for deploying certain apps?

    - by Roman
    Disclaimer: I've never used technique which is described below. That's why there may occur some mistakes or misunderstandings in its description. I heard that some teams (developers) use 'pre-configured' tomcat. As I understand they add different jars to tomcat \lib folder and do something else. Once I've read something about recompilation (or reassembly?) of tomcat for certain needs. Just yesterday I heard a dialog where one developer sayd that his team-mates were not able to deploy the project until he would give them configured tomcat version. So, I wonder, what is it all about and why do they do it? What benefits can they gain from that?

  • What are the pros and cons of using an in memory DB rather than a ThreadLocal

    - by Pangea
    We have been using ThreadLocal so far to carry some data so as to not clutter the API. However below are some of issues of using thread local that which I don't like: 1) Over the years the data items being carried in thread local has increased 2) Since we started using threads (for some light weight processing), we have also migrating these data to the threads in the pool and copying them back again I am thinking of using an in memory DB for these (we doesn't want to add this to the API). I wondering if this approach is good. What are the pros and cons? thx in advance.

  • Blob object not working properly even though the class is seralized

    - by GustlyWind
    I have class which is seralized and does convert a very large amount of data object to blob to save it to database.In the same class there is decode method to convert blob to the actual object.Following is the code for encode and decode of the object. private byte[] encode(ScheduledReport schedSTDReport) { byte[] bytes = null; try { ByteArrayOutputStream bos = new ByteArrayOutputStream(); ObjectOutputStream oos = new ObjectOutputStream(bos); oos.writeObject(schedSTDReport); oos.flush(); oos.close(); bos.close(); //byte [] data = bos.toByteArray(); //ByteArrayOutputStream baos = new ByteArrayOutputStream(); //GZIPOutputStream out = new GZIPOutputStream(baos); //XMLEncoder encoder = new XMLEncoder(out); //encoder.writeObject(schedSTDReport); //encoder.close(); bytes = bos.toByteArray(); //GZIPOutputStream out = new GZIPOutputStream(bos); //out.write(bytes); //bytes = bos.toByteArray(); } catch (Exception e) { _log.error("Exception caught while encoding/zipping Scheduled STDReport", e); } decode(bytes); return bytes; } /* * Decode the report definition blob back to the * ScheduledReport object. */ private ScheduledReport decode(byte[] bytes) { ByteArrayInputStream bais = new ByteArrayInputStream(bytes); ScheduledReport sSTDR = null; try { ObjectInputStream ois = new ObjectInputStream(bais); //GZIPInputStream in = new GZIPInputStream(bais); //XMLDecoder decoder = new XMLDecoder(in); sSTDR = (ScheduledReport)ois.readObject();//decoder.readObject(); //decoder.close(); } catch (Exception e) { _log.error("IOException caught while decoding/unzipping Scheduled STDReport", e); } return sSTDR; } The problem here is whenver I change something else in this class means any other method,a new class version is created and so the new version the class is unable to decode the originally encoded blob object. The object which I am passing for encode is also seralized object but this problem exists. Any ideas thanks

  • Am I correct in my assumption about synchronized block?

    - by kunjaan
    I have a method shout() with a synchronized block. private void shout(){ System.out.println("SHOUT " + Thread.currentThread().getName()); synchronized(this){ System.out.println("Synchronized Shout" + Thread.currentThread().getName()); try { Thread.sleep(50); } catch (InterruptedException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } System.out.println("Synchronized Shout" + Thread.currentThread().getName()); } } If I have two Threads that run this method, am I correct in assuming that the two "Synchronized Shout" will always appear one after the other? There can be no other statements in between the "Synchronized Shout"?

  • in a J2EE application when does a listener get called?

    - by josh
    I have a J2EE app and it has a listener in web.xml. Listener contains a method called contextInitialized I want to know when does contextInitialized actually get called? From my reading I understand that it gets called when deploying the application. Can there be situations/scenario's where it could be called after the application has been deployed? Say that I am in a Clustered GlassFish app server environment. Could it be called after the application has been deployed?
