• C# .net framework- border on only one side of the form

  I am an inexperienced programmer , completely new to programming for windows . I am writing a little program that I always wanted . Its being written using C# using .net framework. atleast thats what I think I am doing. All the talk about framework and .nets , windows forms , and win32 api has all got me really confused.. :( anyways I have simple Form object. Form f = new Form() ; f.Text = "" ; f.ControlBox =false ; Now How to remove the all the borders on the form except one sides? As in, the side borders should go , but the top border should stay FormBorderStyle doesn't have anything for this Also how do you people solve such problems yourself , without asking ? look at others code ? read a a book ? any particular website ? I have googled , but it didn't turn up nothing.

• Drag and Drop to explorer causing invalid FORMATETC (DV_E_FORMATETC) error

  I'm trying to use this excellent example to implement dropping virtual files into Windows Explorer. However, I'm stymied by this error. Towards the bottom, inside void System.Runtime.InteropServices.ComTypes.IDataObject.GetData(ref System.Runtime.InteropServices.ComTypes.FORMATETC formatetc, out System.Runtime.InteropServices.ComTypes.STGMEDIUM medium) on the first call to ((System.Runtime.InteropServices.ComTypes.IDataObject)this).GetDataHere(ref formatetc, ref medium); I'm getting back a DV_E_FORMATETC error. As far as I can tell, all the elements of the FORMATETC struct that are being passed in are valid: cfFormat is "Shell IDList Array" (-16141), ptd is 0, dwAspect is DVASPECT_CONTENT, lindex is -1, and tymed is TYMED_HGLOBAL. I'm kind of confused how there'd be a problem anyway, since this was generated by explorer. I know very little about COM interaction, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

• When using the getInstance() method of the abstract java.text.NumberFormat class, what is the actual

  This question expands upon the one at abstract-class-numberformat-very-confused-about-getinstance. I feel that this question is different enough to merit being asked on its own. In the answers to that question, it was stated that a code statement such as NumberFormat en = NumberFormat.getInstance(Locale.US); returns an object that is a subclass of the java.text.NumberFormat class. It makes sense to me why the return type can't be just an instance of NumberFormat since that is an abstract class. Rather, it was stated that the returned object is at least an instance of NumberFormat, but actually something else. My question is this: what specifically is the class of the object that is returned? In the Sun documentation the only subclasses I see are ChoicesFormat and DecimalFormat. Is there some sort of behind the scenes compiler voodoo going on here? Thanks in advance!

  I am developing an iPhone application that downloads data from a website. The website database is implemented in SQL and the site itself uses the classic ASP interface. I am unsure as to which method would be best for transferring data to and from the server. Both JSON and SOAP require XML processing and I'm not sure how that affects performance or which of those two is best. What would be the best method in general for data transfer given the server configuration we currently have? I very new to this field and I'm a bit confused. Any help would be appreciated.

  I am just starting out with PHP, and I am wondering if there is a way to add an anonymous function to a class instance. For instance, lets say... class A{ public B; } $c = new A(); //This is where I am getting a little confused... //The following wont work $c->B = function(){echo('HelloWorld');}; $c->B(); What I am hoping to do is reuse the same spit of code in a great number of different applications, and make it so that I can just 'swap-out' and replace functions in specific instances.   We do have many frameworks available in Java. Struts, Swing, JSF 2.0, Spring etc are used as per their priority. Actually, I don't know how many they are as well! But, as I am fresher to Java, even learning after their architecture, I cannot decide which framework can be used with what type of Projects ! Also, I am confused with mixed use of framework like Spring + JSF. What is the benefit to it ? Another thing making me confusing is about the UI components available in market. Like, we do have Primefaces, Ice-faces, MyFaces, Rich-faces. They may or may not have been supporting AJAX in-built. They may contains some bugs as well. What is best choice for Framework + UI component that can directly provide a best feet solution for any project ?

• Google Vizualization with CSV data

  Hi, I have a URL that returns data in CSV format. I would like to use Google Vizualization to create an interactive chart of the data. I've looked at several examples on Google Chart and Vizualization web page but I'm a bit confused as I'm not familiar with JavaScript or web programming in general. Question: Do I have to use JavaScript to parse the CSV string myself and manually construct the DataTable with addColumn() and addRows()? Or, is there a way to simply pass the CSV url to the charting function? I'm hoping to do something like this: var csv_data = get_data_from_url('http://...') var data = new google.visualization.DataTable(csv_data); var chart = new google.visualization.PieChart(document.getElementById('chart_div')); chart.draw(data, ...); Can someone please help me out?   I watch some video and read articles about MVVM pattern and start thinking how should I implement it in my Silverlight app. So at first I create Silverlight application. I think that for clear view I create 3 folders: View - for each user control page in my app, ViewModel - for c# class which will querying date and Model- Entity Data Model of my SQL Server or Oracle Database. And now I am confused, cause I want to implement *WCF/RIA Services/Web services* in my project. In which folder should I put in class of services? I see in examples that Services take date and filtering it and then output data was binding in View - so It looks as ViewModel. But I was sure that someone use Services in Model and that I want to do. But how? Can someone explain me implementing Services as Model? Is my point of view at MVVM is correctly?

• Java Math.cos() Method Does Not Return 0 When Expected

  Using Java on a Windows 7 PC (not sure if that matters) and calling Math.cos() on values that should return 0 (like pi/2) instead returns small values, but small values that, unless I'm misunderstanding, are much greater than 1 ulp off from zero. Math.cos(Math.PI/2) = 6.123233995736766E-17 Math.ulp(Math.cos(Math.PI/2)) = 1.232595164407831E-32 Is this in fact within 1 ulp and I'm simply confused?   stackoverflow, I am experimenting with implementing OpenID in my existing site. I have looked at Plaxo's article on this very subject and I'm a mite confused about something. I am using this PHP OpenID library. I have some code running, and I am getting a unique OpenID back. From myopenid.com, I am getting an id that looks like https://mecablaze.myopenid.com/ But from Yahoo and Google, I am getting an ID that much more cryptic, e.g. https://www.google.com/accounts/o8/id?id=AItOawlbp1cxujdJWDnpx72xVROOw-5V_WzIDZA Are Google's and Yahoo's "gibberish" ids unique for every login user, i.e. is this the value that I use to tie in with existing user on my web app?

  Hello! Couple of questions regarding Twill and Mechanize: 1) Is Twill still relevant as a web-automation tool? If yes, then why is not currently maintained? If no, has Mechanize matured further to support Twill-style simple scripting? Or is there another package that has stepped up to fill the gap? 2) I was able to very quickly setup a couple of test suites in python using Twill, but I'm a little confused on how to access the information that Twill spits out in my python program. That is, I can do showforms() and see the form values neatly listed and I can use fv to update the form values and submit. But how do I access one of those form values as a python var?   Hey guys im in a very confused state of mind at the moment and need some help with Word Press and generally starting a website. My parents have had a business for 20 years and have finally decided to get a website! As im studying IT and Business i said id get it done for them. Rather than design it from scratch i used a template which i bought from themeforest.net (awesome template!) and yesterday a friend mentioned in passing using word press as a CMS which i had never heard of before, and he left before i could ask any questions. SO basically i have a site working on my computer and i have no idea how to get it live as a .com or .com.au, so far as i can see wordpress is a blog with .wordpress.com which isnt what im looking for.   I am a reasonably competent programmer, with about 11 years experience. I particularly like Ruby/Rails and ActionScript. And Java is not too hard. I'd like to develop a web application in Java in order to leverage things like BlazeDS and learn some new tricks with regard to JBoss and the whole Java App thing. But I'm having trouble - and confused - looking for a smooth start. I don't want to use Grails, thanks, I want to use Pure Java, with whatever Framework you can think of. Spring, Hibernate, lalala, it's cool. Where do I start?

• Release a retain UIImage property loaded via imageNamed?

  In my class object i've defined a (nonatomic, retain) property for UIImage. I assigned this property with an image loaded via [UIImage imageNamed:@"file.png"]; If at some point I want to reassign this property to another image, should I have to release the prior reference? I am confused because by the retain property I know i should release it. But because imageNamed is a convenience method (does not use alloc), im not sure what rule to apply here.   have funciton in my object which is called regularly. parse : function(html) { var regexp = /...some pattern.../ var match = regexp.exec(html); while (match != null) { ... match = regexp.exec(html); } ... var r = /...pattern.../g; var m = r.exec(html); } with unchanged html the m returns null each other call. let's say parse(html);// ok parse(html);// m is null!!! parse(html);// ok parse(html);// m is null!!! // ...and so on... is there any index or somrthing that has to be reset on html ... I'm really confused. Why match always returns proper result?

• ASP.NET Web User Control with Javascript used multiple times on a page - How to make javascript func

  I think I summed up the question in the title. Here is some further elaboration... I have a web user control that is used in multiple places, sometimes more than once on a given page. The web user control has a specific set of JavaScript functions (mostly jQuery code) that are containted within *.js files and automatically inserted into page headers. However, when I want to use the control more than once on a page, the *.js files are included 'n' number of times and, rightly so, the browser gets confused as to which control it's meant to be executing which function on. What do I need to do in order to resolve this problem? I've been staring at this all day and I'm at a loss. All comments greatly appreciated. Jason

• Difference between halo and mx namespace

  Hi there ! As far as I know, the support for library://ns.adobe.com/flex/halo namespace has been dropped, and now we have to use library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx instead (reference). Can someone provide if there's any difference between the two namespaces? I am just starting to learn Flex and this change make me confused. For example, if I have an <mx:Tree> tag in my mxml document, the compiler complains that <mx:Tree> could not be resolved to a component implementation. But if I change my mx namespace to use the old one instead (halo), it successfully compiled without error. Thanks. • Mercurial - revert back to old version and continue from there

  I'm using mercurial locally for a project (it's the only repo there's no pushing/pulling to/from anywhere else). To date it's got a linear history. However, the current thing I'm working on I've now realised is a terrible approach and I want to go back to the version before I started it and implement it a different way. I'm a bit confused with the branch / revert / update -C commands in Mercurial. Basically I want to revert to version 38 (currently on 45) and have my next commits have 38 as a parent and carry on from there. I don't care if revisions 39-45 are lost for ever or end up in a dead-end branch of their own. Which command / set of commands do I need?

  Can anyone suggest some good materials for learning more about the Linux filesystem and command line? I have found myself frequently confused as to what programs go where on the Linux filesystem. I would like to learn how the various directories (var, etc, usr ...) are used and how to use the commandline more effectively. I come from the Windows development world (.NET developer) so I am very familiar with Windows system administration. However, when doing more and more work with PHP I found myself lost in the internals of Linux (specifically Ubuntu). For example I was having problems installing PEAR properly on my Ubuntu system and not understanding why it was installed where it was. All of my interactions with Linux machines is done via SSH so I would like to focus on the command line and the filesystem. Thanks for any suggestions.

  I recently installed the Visual Studio 11 Developer Preview. But since there are two arguments for "foo", VS 11 doesn't want to compile it. So my questions are: Is this code correct according to the C++11 standard? Is this bug already known/reported?

In the service, I've got my DAO, and my entity, and I want to delete my entity, so I call DAO.delete(entity); Then, seemingly out of nowhere, I get an InvocationTargetException.
