• Centos/Postfix able to send mail but not receive it

  I have set up postfix and used the mail command to test and an email was successfully sent and delivered. The email arrived in my yahoo inbox BUT the sender also recieved an email in the Maildir directory saying "I'm sorry to have to inform you that your message could not be delivered to one or more recipients", even though the message was delivered. I tried replying from yahoo to the email but it never arrived. I have 1 MX record added to godaddy which i did last week. However, what I want to express is that I want the Events where Data CONTAINS the word "Error" . . . how do I express that? I've Goggled around, but I can find no references to Regular Expression like pattern matching in the Event Viewer. XPath has "contains", but if Event Viewer will support it, I cannot seem to figure out the syntax for invoking it.

• Gmail won't forward mail sent to myself.

  I own a dedicated server with a domain, we'll say foobar.com. I use google apps to manage my email SMTP servers. Now I don't check two gmail inboxes. I have my own personal one, and then I have foobar.com's inbox from google apps. Naturally the easiest thing to do is just have all foobar's emails forwarded to my personal one. So then I am only checking 1 inbox. This is all fine and dandy. I use MSMTP that with a wrapper that uses /etc/aliases. I have it set so any mail attempting to go to root (Things from cron, etc) will go to [email protected]. So when google app's (foobar.com) gets an email from the email I have setup with it ([email protected]), it automatically doesn't forward the message. This is a "feature" to gmail/google apps I suppose. How do I get around it? workarounds? etc. I could just have my alias set to my personal email but I wanted a place to have all foobar related emails archived in one place (googleapps).

• 550 Requested action not taken: mailbox unavailable on OS X server 10.6

  I recently added a new domain to my mail server. I have 1 main server mail.example.com and several others that have the mx record pointing to mail.example.com. My two new domains have the mx record set correctly. The issue I am experiencing is the 550 Requested action not taken: mailbox unavailable error but only when I send emails to accounts on the new urls from an external email account such as gmail. If i send an email to one of the newly made email addresses with the new url from an email account within the same server it delivers normally. For example.... sending [email protected] to [email protected] receives 550 error sending [email protected] to [email protected] works normal here is a report from wormly.com with server and account names changed for obvious reasons Resolving hostname... Connecting... • Corrupted attachments in Thunderbird forward filter

  I created a filter in Thunderbird 14 on client A that, when a certain rule on incoming mail is satisfied, the same mail is forwarded to client B and C. Matching mails received from A are always forwarded to B and C, and that's what I want. Though, when the mail on A has an attachment, it is also forwarded by B and C but the file they receive is corrupted. In my case the incoming file on A is a Word file of about 10kb in size; clients B and C receive a Word file of 27 bytes. I think this could happen because the forward starts from A when the attachment is not yet completely downloaded. I'm not sure this is the cause, though. And I wouldn't have any idea for a fix. Any idea about how to investigate or solve the issue?

• Copy files with filter (XP)

  I have a huge folder (over 6GB) with multiple sub-folders that I want to copy onto an external hard drive, however I do not want it to copy any PDF, EXE or ZIP files across to save space. Is there any software that will help me achieve this? I have looked at TeraCopy but this doesn't seem to have any filter mechanism on it. I am using Windows XP (* sigh *). *edit: found the xcopy command, will this do it? Can anyone help me with the syntax?

• Web Filter For Multiple Networks

  I have been using a Barracuda web filter 310 in our network and I have just had enough of it. It does not support trunking and we have several networks that have users that need to be web filtered. (I guess if everyone just did their flippin jobs I would not have this issue) but the management wants me to get it resolved. Does anyone know the top five web filters that are better than the barracuda web filters that support network trunking so that I can have multiple domains and subnets going through it? • How to filter Varnish logs based on XID?

  I'm running into infrequent 503 errors which appear hard to pinpoint. Varnishlog is driving me mad, since I can't seem to get the information I want out of it. I'd like to see both the client- and backend-communications as seen by Varnish. I thought the XID number, which is logged on Varnish's default error page, would allow me to filter the exact request out of the logging buffer. However, no combination of varnishlog parameters gives me the output I need. The following only shows the client-side communication: varnishlog -d -c -m ReqStart:1427305652 while this only shows the resulting backend communication: varnishlog -d -b -m TxHeader:1427305652 Is there a one-liner to show the entire request?

• Can Dovecot IMAP automatically create Maildir folders for new (virtual) users?

  everyone. I am learning to set up a dovecot home IMAP server using a virtual Ubuntu 12.04 machine. My intention is eventually to have a home server that uses POP3 to take email from several addresses and remove them from my ISP's servers, while making them accessible through a home IMAP server (this is similar to the setup described at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/POP3Aggregator, which explains how to set up the system with dovecot version 1, and is thus outdated). I intend to use the ISP's server directly when sending messages, and to BCC all sent messages to myself. I've completed the basic set up of the test server: getmail uses POP3 to fetch messages from two test email accounts, and successfully delivers them to the respective Maildir-style new folders on the virtual machine. Dovecot then successfully sees these messages. I have two questions: 1) I had to set up new, cur, and tmp folders for both of the test accounts manually to get this setup to work. Is there a way to get dovecot to create these Maildir folders automatically when I create a new virtual user account (e.g., when I add a user and password combination to my dovecot password file), or is it expected that I write a bash script to automate that task? 2) I would welcome any comments you have on how this approach could be improved as I learn to set it up. My motivations with this approach are 1) to enable archiving/storing emails from several hosting providers that impose a cap on server storage, and 2) to give me somewhat greater control over email storage without requiring that I set up and administrate a mail server from scratch (which I'm not yet prepared to do) (this follows the recommendations at https://ssd.eff.org/tech/email). The special requirement: any js file - either identified by the .js extension and/or the mime-type (if that is possible) text/javascript needs to be served from a different location, a local tool that inspects the js for potential threats. • Copy only remaining rows after filter to new Excel Workbook

  I have an Excel file with an external data connection set up. It pulls data in directly from a database, and gives us about 450 rows. The header row allows us to filter the data in the sheet, and we use this as a general purpose tool... I will use the filters to narrow down what I'm looking at based on criteria that change depending on the circumstance. Often, after filtering the data, I want to send just the filtered records to another person. I'd like to copy/paste just the remaining rows into a new Workbook to send via e-mail. Unfortunately, this doesn't work. When I paste the data, it still pastes all the data. The filtered rows are still in the workbook... they're just hidden. I want them gone from the new file completely. How can I do this?

• How do I setup a secondary incoming mail server?

  I currently have a server running Debian 6, with postfix and dovecot handling email. This server hosts email for a number of domains and users, so I use MySQL as my backing store for users and forwardings and everything related. Currently, this server is the only server listed in an MX record for all of the domains it serves. I would like to create a secondary server that would be listed in the DNS with a lower priority (e.g. current primary server is priority 5, secondary would be priority 10), so that in the event that I need to reboot the primary server, or otherwise make it unavailable, the secondary server would receive email, and hold it until the primary server came back up, at which point it would deliver any held email to the primary server. I do not need the secondary server to function as a backup sending server. Users would never need to see the secondary server, they would simply not lose incoming emails if the primary server is down, and they would be unable to send or receive until the primary came back up. How would I go about doing this? I would like to use the same software if they can handle this task, because I’m already familiar with managing them.

• Filter tagged threads in Thunderbird

  I have a big issue with Thunderbird, I need to process a lot of emails coming from request tracking system. Since only few of those apply to me personally, I tag these threads with appropriate tags. The issue now is that I would like to filter out threads, that do apply to me and those that I haven't tagged yet. I'm unable to do this, because new emails keep arriving into the already existing threads, and of course, these new emails don't get the tags. Basically I would need some sort of filtering rule, that would apply not to a specific message, but the master message in the thread. Is there some possibility to create such filters, or is there some other facility, that would allow me to do the same? Tags are great, since they are actually saved into the messages and correctly sync across multiple machines when using IMAP.

• Emails not arriving to client's inbox. Server not on black list.

  Hi, I'm sending emails to my clients who are hosted on GoDaddy for both their website and email. For some reason, my system's emails are no longer reaching their inbox. My email server sends them alerts when an action is completed. These alerts are posted in my system and my email server is sending these out, but there are no bounceback emails. There have been no issues in the past year, but in the past two weeks the problem started cropping up. My clients were forced to switched to a web-based email provider like Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo to receive their alerts. This is a temporary solution that works in the interim. I contacted GoDaddy and they are indicating that I am not being blocked. I also have a GoDaddy account and can confirm that my alerts aren't arriving in the inbox regardless of whatever safe sender items I employ in the webmail interface. I even switched all the system's outbound emails to Plain Text, no luck. Can anyone provide some insight and point me in the right direction? Thank you in advance.

  From MS Outlook I am used to have an input field above my list of mails where I can type in a filter string such that every mail not matching this string vanishes. I remember that once - by accident (pressing a weird combination of keys because the window I was actually working in lost focus) - I got something very similar in Lotus Notes. So I think there must be something like this out there, but unfortunately I cannot find it anymore. Does somebody know how to get this kind of functionality in Lotus Notes? Thanks!

• Sending emails to site subscribers

  I have a site where people enter their email address to be reminded of a weekly posting. I only send them the weekly email that they double-opt-in for. I do not sell, trade, expose, or do anything else with their address. Right now I have a bit of a hack, connecting to a large email providers SMTP server to send the emails. As the site grows I fear that my emails will be marked as spam and that I will be violating the TOS of the provider. I'm considering two options, building an in-house SMTP server or using a mailing list service. Is there a best-known-method for this? I'd really prefer to simply build my email and use a script to send them through the SMTP server rather then use some GUI to build the email and import a list of addresses. But previous experience tells me that running a mail server and not being marked as spam can be difficult. Help!?

  I'm trying to create a spam filter in Java using the Bayesian algorithm. I use a text file that contains email messages and split the tokens using regex, storing these values into a hashmap. My problem is, with regex, the email addresses are split so instead of: [email protected] regex causes the token to be: john smith example The same holds true for ip addresses, so for example, instead of: 192.55.34.322 regex splits the tokens to be: 192 55 34 322 So does anybody know of a way that I could read the email messages and store their contents as is?

  Hi there, In my database I have a lot of users who've misspelled their e-mail address. This in turn causes my postfix to bounce a lot of mails when sending the newsletter. Forms include (but are not limited to) "yaho.com", "yahho .com" etc. Very annoying! So i have been trying to update those record to the correct value. After executing select email from users where email like '%@yaho%' and email not like '%yahoo%'; and getting the list, I'm stuck because I do not know how to update only the yaho part. I need the username to be left intact. So I thought I would just dump the database and use vim to replace, but I cannot escape the @ symbol.. BTW, how do I select all email addresses written in CAPS? select upper(email) from users; would just transform everything into CAPS, whereas I just needed to find out the already-written-in-CAPS mails.

• Sending emails based on intervals using Ruby on Rails

  Hi, I would like to be able to send a string of emails at a determined interval to different recipients. I assign to each Contact this series of Emails called a Campaign, where Campaign has Email1, Email2, etc. Each Contact has a Contact.start_date. Each Email has email.days which stores the number of days since a Contact's start-date to send the email. For example: Email1.days=5, Email2.days=7, Email3.days=11. Contact1.start_date = 4/10/2010; contact2.start_date = 4/08/2010 IF today is 4/15, then Contact1 receives Email 1 (4/15-4/10 = 5 days) IF today is 4/15, then Contact2 received Email 2 (4/15 - 4/8 = 7 days). What's a good action to run every day using a cron job that would then follow these rules to send out emails using ActionMailer? Thanks.

The reason for integrating this filter comes from Spring security FAQs: I'm using Tomcat (or some other servlet container) and have enabled HTTPS for my login page, switching back to HTTP afterwards. It doesn't work - I just end up back at the login page after authenticating. This happens because sessions created under HTTPS, for which the session cookie is marked as “secure”, cannot subsequently be used under HTTP. The browser will not send the cookie back to the server and any session state will be lost (including the security context information). Starting a session in HTTP first should work as the session cookie won't be marked as secure.

  Hello , I send email on GoDaddy site ( from my .NET application): mail.From = new MailAddress("[email protected]"); mail.To.Add(emailadmin); mail.Subject = "Subj"; mail.IsBodyHtml = true; mail.Body = Body; ... smtp.Host = "relay-hosting.secureserver.net"; smtp.Port = 25; smtp.EnableSsl = false; smtp.Send(mail); but I have received the error : The server response was: mail server permanently rejected message (#5.3.0) else I have tried this code : smtp.Host = "relay-hosting.secureserver.net"; smtp.Credentials = new NetworkCredential("[email protected]", "password"); smtp.Port = 25; smtp.EnableSsl = false; but get same error. Please advice.

• TB3.0.10: Messages being sent back to me

  Hello, I don't know if this will make any sense to you; but here goes. When I send an email and I get a response, more often than not, in the 'to:' is my email address. However, my email address also ends up in the 'from' column.The 'reply-from' address is nowhere to be found;so I don't have any address with which I can send my reply, as both of them have just my email address. What am I doing wrong here? Is there some set-up in my TOOLOPTIONS set-up incorrectly? The set-up in OPTIONS is pretty difficult to understand and it doesn't offer any 'to' or 'reply-from' choices. This is critical because I just cannot answer my emails because there is no one I can send a reply to. Please, please try to help me.   We are a growing Django app that is currently using Google Apps to send email. We are hitting the maximum limits of email sending and need a better solution. We prefer not to have to manage our own email servers and the easier the better. What is the best, easiest, and cheapest way to send a large amount of email? We have looked at Postageapp but they require you to use your own SMTP server. We are considering App Engine to send email but it will require a lot of configuration to get it to work correctly. What can we use to quickly fix this problem?
