  • Word 2010, Multiple Columns, Vertical center one column only

    I am creating a document with two columns in Microsoft Word 2010. I want the first column to be centered vertically. I want the second column to be on the same page and the vertical placement to be from the top. I highlight my text in the first column that I want centered vertically, then go to Page Layout Margins Custom Margins Layout, you can choose to center the vertical alignment. I have choosen the "Section Start" to be "Column" and also tried "Continuous." In all cases it always shifts all of my second column information to a new page. I don't want my second column text to be on a new page, I want it to be on the same page and vertically aligned from the top--not the center. Am I understanding the functionality of the Section Start on the Layout tab correctly? Maybe the page layout isn't the correct formatting to use. What I am really doing is formatting columns. I haven't found anywhere to format the columns for this. Am I missing some important column formatting features? I know that I can use the paragraph formatting and add space above the first line of text to make it look like it is centered vertically. However, this is a template for a master document and will be changed frequently. I really would like the first column text to be automatically formatted to be centered vertically without having to go in and manually change the space above the paragraph every time. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    I've got two VMware Workstation virtual machines running ... Virtual A can ping the host laptop most of the time, other real machines on my home network all of the time, but it gets a "request timed out" for virtual B Virtual B can ping the host laptop most of the time, and the machines, both real and virtual A all of the time The only difference I know of is virtual B has been joined to my works domain, whereas virtual A is still in workgroup mode Can anyone explain how / why this is occurring ?

I found method LDAPConnection myCon = new LDAPConnection("localhost",389); myCon.delete("uid=test1, ou=People, o=domain.com, o=isp"); but this remove whole user and i need remove only one attribute "notifyTo" of this user.     I changed some names of namespaces, assemblies in one of existing project (C# and ASP.NET). But when I try to debug it; I get this error. Could not load file or assembly 'HR' or one of its dependencies. The located assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131040). I have replaced DFI with HR in the code.

  • Restrict SSH user to connection from one machine

    During set-up of a home server (running Kubuntu 10.04), I created an admin user for performing administrative tasks that may require an unmounted home. This user has a home directory on the root partition of the box. The machine has an internet-facing SSH server, and I have restricted the set of users that can connect via SSH, but I would like to restrict it further by making admin only accessible from my laptop (or perhaps only from the local 192.168.1.0/24 range). I currently have only an AllowGroups ssh-users with myself and admin as members of the ssh-users group. What I want is something that works like you may expect this setup to work (but it doesn't): $ groups jonathan ... ssh-users $ groups admin ... ssh-restricted-users $ cat /etc/ssh/sshd_config ... AllowGroups ssh-users [email protected].* ... Is there a way to do this? I have also tried this, but it did not work (admin could still log in remotely): AllowUsers [email protected].* * AllowGroups ssh-users with admin a member of ssh-users. I would also be fine with only allowing admin to log in with a key, and disallowing password logins, but I could find no general setting for sshd; there is a setting that requires root logins to use a key, but not for general users.

  • Renting an "EC2" server VS buying one (for a start up in initial stages)

    We are a small start up in the early stages and are working on a SaaS-based Rails product. Currently, we use EC2 for a small instance and have a need for another large/extra-large instance as we are beginning to deploy to the Cloud and get ready to release our "alpha" version. While EC2 was my choice for numerous reasons (reliability, accessibility - small team is geographically dispersed, maintainability, and things of that nature), it appears to be rather expensive. While the product will ultimately be deployed in the Cloud (be it EC2 or otherwise) and that experience would help the development team, would it make sense to purchase a physical server and stick it in the basement or bite the bullet and pay the price for EC2 (or other Cloud Providers)? While such decisions are driven by numerous factors, it would certainly help to get the thoughts of other folks who may have been in similar situations. Hence, the post. Thanks much!

  • Hosting several domains on one server using IIS 7

    I have created several web sites inside IIS7 on my server. All of them use the same ip and port, but different host names. Currently I have set the host name to www.mydomain.com. Now my question is, how do I get my actual domains to target the different sites on my server. Second question. Can I set my host name to only mydomain.com to make sure that all requests to that domain is handeled by the same application? Primarily, I want both www.mydomain.com and mydomain.com to work when the user types the address in their browser.

  • two samba servers and one ldap backend

    I had setup a Samba 3 server as PDC with a passdb LDAP backend. Server SID: S-1-5-21-3270... Domain: A Every user has a SambaSID beginning with this Server SID. But now I try to setup a second server for some shares. This server should use the same LDAP backend because I don't want to have two LDAP backends. Otherwise I have to do modifcations (e.g. add users) twice. Second Server SID: S-1-5-21-3797... Domain: B But now when a user try to mount this new share I see this error in samba log: The primary group domain sid(S-1-5-21-3797....) does not match the domain sid(S-1-5-21-3270...) for xxx(S-1-5-21-3270...). I understand the problem but what can I do to avoid to maintain two LDAP backends? Regards, Simon

  • Synchronising a remote folder with a local one.

    I am using a network disk (that's connected to my router by USB) to store several data files. A simple .NET application that I've created is supposed to read and modify these data files. However, some security issues are preventing this application to access these files directly. (Actually, these have been built-in to my application on purpose since it's not going to support NAS disks.) Since this disk is shared with several computers, I just want to have a simple synchronisation method, which will copy the files to a local folder where3 my application can access them. And, once modified, it should send back the modified files to the NAS disk again. I have two options: 1) Build a second application to do my own synchronisation. 2) Find some build-in function inside Windows 7 Ultimate which can do this for me. Option 2 is preferred. Option 1 is something I can do easily, if need be. I don't need third-party tools. (Still, feel free to add some references to good tools, although I won't accept them as answers.) Basically, is this possible with Windows 7 and if so, how?

    Hi guys, I guess no one will have a definative answer to this but considered predictions would be appriciated. I am in the process of developing a mySQL database for a web application and my question is: Is it more efficient to make a single query that returns a single row using AJAX or To request 100 - 700 rows when the user will likely only ever use the results of two or three? Really I am asking what is heavier for the server 2-3 requests with one result or 1 request with 100 - 700 results? Thanks, Mark

  • Puppet causes endless restarts of CUPS (how does one prevent this)

    Hi! It makes sense, and is in fact suggested on this site, to have a critical file change trigger a service restart with puppet meta-parameters (such as notify or subscribe). For example: ## file definition for printers.conf file { "/etc/cups/printers.conf": [snip], source => "puppet:///module/etc/cups/printers.conf" } ## service definition for sshd service { 'cups': ensure => running, subscribe => File['/etc/cups/printers.conf'] } But in the case of CUPS, this triggers and endless loop of restarts; the logic works like this: Change puppetmaster's version of /etc/cups/printers.conf puppetmaster pushes new version to client, triggering cups restart cupsd restart insists on putting its own time stamp at the top of printers.conf, 'Written by cupsd...' This change will be seen as out of date, so after runinterval, we return to (1). Is there a way to suppress cupsd's need to time stamp the file? Or is there a puppet trick that could help here?     This January I'm migrating our main SQLServer 2000 based database to a beefier server. Is there any standard procedure or documentation on how to do it? I need to replicate all at the new server (databases, jobs, DTSs, vinculated servers, etc). Edit: I mean SQLServer 2000 on both ends!     I have a document (docA) with arabic page numbers in the header. Now docA is part of a thesis which has roman numbers in the footer. So I want to add roman page numbers to docA. This is no problem. But now I want to adjust the numbering of the roman numbers (as the thesis has lets say five pages). This is what I want: arabic page numbers in the header, starting at 1 roman page numbers in the footer, starting at VI I tried this: I choosed 'Page Number', 'Page Number Format' and tried to adjust the starting point. However, this changes both page numbers. How is it possible to have different numbering in the header and in the footer?
