  • iPhone all day meeting request bug?

    We've come across a bit of a weird bug in the office. our office is closing for a week or so over christmas, and our admin staff sent a meeting request to everyone in the office to go from 5pm on the 23rd of December until we return to work at 8.30 on the 5th. However there was some confusion, as if you look at the image below, the same meeting request is showing up with different start times for some people. While most people get the 5pm date, for others it shows up as an all day event! Staff have been planning their activities for the 23rd only to find out that their calendar is wrong and they are required to work. With some investigation, we noticed that all of the people with the incorrect time own iPhones or iPads. So perhaps they accepted the meeting on their phones, and it has put the meeting in wrong? There are people with the correct one that have iPhones, but perhaps they are on ios4 still, or perhaps they didn't accept the meeting request on their phone. has anyone else come across this error at all? is there a fix?

  • Watchguard Firebox "split" fibre optic line into 2 interfaces

    We have a requirement on our Watchguard Firebox XTM505 to be able to split our incoming external interface, in this case a fibre optic dedicated leased line, 100/100. We use the line in our office of approx 30 machines however we also re-sell to an external company who utilise it to provide wireless internet solutions to the public. The current infrastructure is as follows: Data in (Leased Line) - Juniper SRX210 managed by ISP - 1 cable out into unmanaged Netgear switch - 1 cable into our firewall and office network, 1 cable to our external providers core router managed by them. We have been informed that having the unmanaged switch in the position it is poses a security risk and that a good option would be to get our Watchguard Firewall to perform the split, by separating our office onto a trusted interface, and by "passing through" the external line to their managed router. It is alleged that the Watchguard is capable of doing this and also rate limiting the interfaces, i.e. 20mbps for the trusted interface and 80mbps for the "pass-through", however Watchguard technical support don't seem to be able to understand what we're trying to achieve. Can anyone provide any advice on whether this is possible on a Watchguard device and how or perhaps if there's a better way of achieving this, perhaps with a managed switch instead of unmanaged?     Im a student and I have been assigned the task of creating a logical network diagram for the following scenario There are 2 buildings, the first is the head office and the second is the branch. The data centre is in the head office, it contains domain controller, mail server, file server and a web server. it provides wired and wireless access to the staff. the branch building is new and it does not have a network. The two buildings must be connected using a VPN connection. The branch building will not have any servers but just network devices that will provide the connectivity, the users in the branch building will be connected to the head office over the VPN. I had created a diagram based on this scenario, but my teacher rejected it saying that it does not follow Cisco hierarchical Model and the servers were not placed correctly in the diagram. I just wanted some help in this matter so that I Can create my network diagram correctly. If anyone could upload a picture of how the logical diagram should be for this scenario will be helpful, any other resources would also be great.

    I run a small architectural firm with several drafters employed, I'm currently setting up a new office space and one of the things on top of my list is a figuring out a way to keep tabs on my drafters work and being able to collaborate in real time. Here's the challenge, they sit in a separate large cubicle room and I'm on the other end of the hallway, the way it is now; every time they’ve got some question on how to proceed on a certain design, they would come all the way to my office, I'd open their file (in read only) give some ideas, save-as new file, they go back copy paste... in short, nonsense. What I've been thinking of is to setup a hardwired solution that should enable me to have an extra monitor on my desktop which is hardwired (through KVM or something) to each of my employees workstations serving as a secondary display, so that I can watch live what they do, interact with them just as if they would have an extra keyboard and monitor in my office, except; I don’t want to have on my desk a separate monitor for each employee.. so I'd want them to be tiled on a single large screen, watching all screens alive, and whenever they ask me (or I just decide..) to step in, I just click on any tile and hurray, I'm in, editing and saving in real time on their workstation. I also want to reserve the option when I want to, to just use that monitor as just an extra screen for my workstation. Is something like that possible in 2013? P.S. I know of TeamViewer and similar internet/software based stuff, but I'm specifically looking for something solid hardwired and maintenance free, and also something that would allow to watch without my employees getting notified every time I do so (I’m not a tough boss though...).

  • Adding a 2008 server to a 2003 Domain with DNS devolution?

    I'm running into a problem adding a 2008 server to our existing 2003 domain, and as I am not a Windows admin, I'm not getting the problem here. Some reading around on Technet seems to indicate that DNS devolution is the issue. Here's the setup: DNS for the entire company is hosted on a Unix server running Bind, including the service records for the Windows domain. Our toplevel is company.local, and functional domains are in subdomains, such as mgt.company.local (our management servers). Our Windows servers live mostly in office.company.local, but some of them live in .mgt.company.local and .customers.company.local. The 2003 servers all succesfully authenticate against company.local as the Windows domain. Their position in the infrastructure is set by setting the primary DNS suffix under the network settings and the computer name dialog. Trying to do the same with a brand new 2008 install throws an error though: "Changing the Primary Domain DNS name of this computer to office.company.local failed [...] The specified server cannot perform the requested operation" I tried googling, but the closest I came was the Technet article on DNS Devolution, and I can't make heads nor tails on how to apply that to my case. Addendum 2012-10-23: The problem is not joining the domain, that works, the problem is that it joins with the wrong name, as .company.local, instead of .office.company.local. So far everything works, but I'm rather afraid to run production like this, because sooner or later something is going to complain about the AD name not matching DNS.

    i have a problem about phpexcel and joomla. I'm developing some filter form to load excel reports, so i used phpexcel library to do this. Right now i have only a report, it works fine, but after that i upload inside joomla using PHP pages component that allows me to put php files inside joomla and call it. When i put them, i change a little bit the form that calls the php that generates the excel report, i call the php using a link like this: h**p://www.whiblix.com/index.php?option=com_php&Itemid=24 That is, calling it from Joomla, not directly the php. If i wanna call the php directly i could use this path: h**p://www.whiblix.com/components/com_php/files/repImportaciones.php What's the problem? The problem is, when i call the php that generates the excel through joomla, the excel that is downloaded is corrupt and only shows symbols in one cell when i open it. But if i call the php directly the report is generated fine. I could call the php directly, the problem is that if i call it directly i can't use this line of code: defined( '_JEXEC' ) or die( 'Restricted access' ); That is used to deny the direct access to php from call it directly, because it doesn' work because the security. Where's the problem?     I'm working with MS Excel interop in C# and I don't understand how this particular line of code works: var excel = new Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Application(); where Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Application is an INTERFACE defined as: [Guid("000208D5-0000-0000-C000-000000000046")] [CoClass(typeof(ApplicationClass))] public interface Application : _Application, AppEvents_Event { } I'm thinking that some magic happens when the interface is decorated with a CoClass attribute, but still how is it possible that we can create an instance of an interface with a new keyword? Shouldn't it generate a compile time error?

    Dear all Stackoverflowers, I just started to learn programming and now I'm putting this question online based on a quote: no question is silly My work needs to develop a order system based on web, which wants a database system. Since using Excel for years as a general office user, I naturally turn this to Access. However, most people say Access is very limited comparing to MySQL or MSSQL, or any other more professional database system. But after developing some functions for my company's order system, I really find Access can fulfill my request. And I also tried MSSQL to develop, which I found it not quite convenient to use. I have searched in stackoverflow and find no general answer about my doubt. Now I am sincerely hoping some experienced and professional developers could clear my doubts. Now I'm listing some Access advantages, which I don't think other database system have. I hope you could help me also find these advantages in others. 1. Access is portable, I can just copy a xxx.accdb file to my company and continue with development. 2. Access is easy to generate helpful table, for example, it will automatically generate a field that can automatically count, could be used as primary key value. 3. it is more compatable with Excel, to display and filter data. 4. importantly, it nerely needs no environment to setup, just needs MS Office to be installed. ............others However, I also find some points that MSSQL is advantaged: 1. security reasons 2. easy to backup, ( just use BACKUP..... sql statement to do it) 3. can edit stored procedure to save some functions to database ...............others specifically, I wish some friends could tell me how to make other database portable? since I usually work both at home and in office. Document must specify the sender, which can be a single employee, an entire room or an entire office so it must have a reference to the primary keys of those tables. Should I do a "parallel" table for handle it (for example i've done one for handle the multiple recipients documents) or there is another way? Thank you

  • Outlook 2007 Does Not Accept Login Credentials, OWA Webmail Does. Troubleshooting Advice?

    I am trying to connect Outlook 2007 to Exchange (Hosted Exchange from Rackspace). Soon, I will need to roll this out for our entire office. With the Exchange account added to Outlook, Outlook starts up and asks for the user's username and password. Unfortunately, it doesn't like the password I use for it. I can confirm this username (email address) and password combo works by using Outlook WebMail, and another user (in another network/office) confirmed the Exchange account does work within his Outlook client. In my network/office, I can confirm that an Outlook 2007 client (under Windows 7) can connect to the Hosted Exchange server from Rackspace. However, I have not been able to get Outlook 2007 (under Windows XP SP3) to connect to the very same Exchange server Outlook 2007 (under Windows 7) can connect to. Outlook continuously prompts me for the username and password and does not accept the correct combination. Now, regarding the Outlook client that cannot connect/login to Exchange: The user has full admin rights on the workstation We do not run a domain controller/LDAP The firewall on the workstation has been disabled Real time file scanning in Microsoft Security Essentials has been disabled There are no virus scanning applications that would interface with Outlook or an email server. The Exchange account is setup to run on a newly created Outlook profile The network firewall does not log any blocked attempts A packet capture at the router reveals communication between the workstation and the Exchange server or proxy (though, this is SSL encrypted, so I don't know what the computers are saying) I have applied a fix (Added DWORD value of 0 for DefConnectOpts under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\RPC) that was recommended to make RPC function when the workstation does not have a default gateway set. Workstation is configured as DHCP. This fix did nothing, and it may be worth noting the RPC subkey was not present until I added it. RPC service is running on the workstation The program is not running under any compatibility mode. Side note: Outlook 2007 installs with compatibility mode for XP enabled by default in windows 7. Outlook 2007 will not even try to connect to exchange if this compatibility mode is checked. In windows xp, I tried checking compatibility mode for windows 2000, and was unable to connect to exchange as well. Here is the specific configuration I've used in a blank outlook profile: Microsoft Exchange Server: ##MASKED##-MBX-C18.mex07a.mlsrvr.com Username: (Full Email Address: [email protected]) Password: ##MASKED## Outlook Anywhere: Connect to Microsoft Exchange using HTTP Exchange Proxy Settings: Proxy Server: mex07a.emailsrvr.com Check "Connect using SSL only" Under "Only connect to proxy servers...", enter: msstd:mex07a.emailsrvr.com Check "On fast networks, connect using HTTP first, then connect using TCP/IP" Check "On slow networks, connect using HTTP first, then connect using TCP/IP" Proxy authentication settings: Basic Authentication Notes: mex07a.mlsrvr.com and mex07a.emailsrvr.com may look incorrect at first glance, but this is not a typo - these instructions were handed down from rackspace and are confirmed to be working, just not on this workstation. I have tried to use the RpcPing utility but must have been using it wrong. I got as far as "Bad Interface Descriptor". It would seem to me getting Outlook and Exchange to work together would be a breeze, especially since everything is done over port 80 with web services. Unfortunately, the user is stuck with WebMail access only, because Outlook won't accept the Exchange credentials. Do you have any ideas of other things I could try to debug this issue further?     I am getting well out of my “superuser” depth here and would love some support. At work we have an Excel workbook (*.xls format circa Office 2003) which maintains our “engineers” timesheet. This handles what events we are doing across the year and how many “work units” it is. As far as a workbook goes, it is fairly simple with just a few =SUM(range) cells and some linked across sheets (12 sheets, one for each month) It is stored on a server, in a folder that provides “management” with full access and “engineers” with read-only access. The workbook itself is read-only for “engineers” and full access for “management”. I think these permissions are controlled through Active Directory. The workbook is protected with a password, assumingly to allow “management” to edit it even if they are working at a terminal logged in as an “engineer”. This protection prevents “engineers” from going to certain cells to see formulae and therefore editing them. The workbook has a macro which saves and closes it ten minutes after opening. This is to stop other “management” from being locked out by any one person who has logged in with editing privileges. I hope this is making sense to someone... :S Now then, we have Microsoft Small Business Server 2008. We have a shiny new web-based login for when we are offsite so we can get to Exchange webmail and our internal site (which uses Sharepoint 3.0). “Management” would like to be able to publish this timesheet automatically after changes (they don’t want to have to do anything different to what they are currently doing) so that using an iPhone “engineers” can check on it while out of the office. I am currently having a look at “Excel Services” for Office 2007 on TechNet but I am not sure if I am running down the right garden path at the moment. < EDIT This seems to suggest that I have to have Sharepoint Server 2007, with no mention of Sharepoint 3.0... ... "MOSS builds on WSS by adding both core features as well as end user web parts" - Wikipedia entry for Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) this is not good news... "...and using the ASP.NET APIs, web parts can be written to extend the functionality of WSS." Wikipedia entry for Windows Sharepoint Services. Could this bring back what I need? Is this good news? Do I need to start learning ASP.NET?
