  • XP VM not detecting USB keyboard or mouse from Windows 7 host

    I've been using a Windows XP Pro VM (32-bit, SP3) for months on my work PC (Windows 7 64-bit) with no problems, with a PS/2 keyboard and a standard optical USB mouse. Today I copied this VM onto my home PC, which is also Windows 7 64-bit but with a G15 USB keyboard and MX518 USB mouse. For some reason the VM does not accept input from the keyboard or mouse, which makes it almost impossible to use. (Unity works but is not an option). Both my home and work PC are running VMware player 3.1.0. My keyboard and mouse show up as USB devices in the bottom-right of the VMware Player window, and if I click them I have the standard option to "Connect (Disconnect from host)". I have selected this option for the keyboard, and then the VM happily accepts keyboard input, but of course my host PC no longer does. It seems like VMware is seeing my keyboard and mouse as USB devices and not input devices. I've tried sending the keyboard input to the guest and reinstalling VMware Tools, but that achieved nothing. I'm certain it's a problem with the VM, and not the XP install, as I also can't use F12 to enter the VMware BIOS when the VM is powering up.

  • How do I get a USB hard-disk adaper to work with a PCMCIA USB card?

    I have a PCMCIA (Cardbus) 32bit USB 2.0 2-port card. If I plug my MP3 player in it works fine. I have a USB adapter for a hard disk drive. When I plug that into the PCMCIA USB slot the light on that hard disk flashed between red and green - it should stay green. "USB Mass Storage device" is added in the Device Manager, but no drive letter appears in My Computer. The installing device icon down by the clock never goes away. (Windows XP SP3.)

    For CentOS installation CDs, you can install OS, as well as booting into "rescue" mode so that you can do a chroot mount on the system partition for problem solving, even the system is installed in hardware RAID drives. How can we create a similar thing but on usb flash drive? I tried to do it with unetbootin, but when booting into the USB, eventually the CentOS setup still requires presence of CDs. Ultimately, I want to use this usb flash drive for remote disaster recovery through say HP iLo remote console / Dell iDrac etc.

  • Arch Linux doesn't mount two USB drive?

    One is USB modem which is connected and working and problematic one is a plain vfat USB stick which contain data ....that is the fellow not mounting :( I have tried to see it by fdisk ....it doesn't mount autometically... Is there any UDEV rule for that?? Because I have put a udev rule to remove the usb-storage thing( I had to.. otherwise the usb modem wont get connected... it waits for storage to relase the port) Any idea and solution would be greatly appreciated PS: I am running Arch distribution.     Have you ever plugged in a USB drive or any external device with a hard drive and wondered why you cannot see it in My Computer? I often have, I believe my USB is not broke .. because if I plugin the USB to another computer could be seen / detected.     Can I get my Nexus One/Android on my local network over USB instead of WiFi and browse to my computer's IP address, the one to which the phone would be connected to, via USB? For instance, let's say my computer has an IP address 100.1.1.1 and when I go to it from the computer I would go to my localhost and see a website I've set up locally in the computer. Then, I connect my phone to that computer via USB. Can I then go to 100.1.1.1 from the browser and see the same website? All this through the USB, no WiFi?

    I downloaded the Ubuntu Software to create a USB to install Ubuntu. I rebooted my PC (Windows 7), in wich i did a partition (:E) just for Ubuntu. But when i start the installer, it says there's no other OS in my computer, and doesn't give me the option to install it in :E, just the option to format the WHOLE hard drive and install it there. What can i do? Also, i tried Wubi before, but it had an error with "wubildr.mbr"

Thats the problem everytime that i tried to boot it came an error... syslinux no default or ui configuration directive found. Before post an answer i already tried renamed isolinux etc (folder and cfg n bin) with syslinux and tried too using yumi, universal boot and live linux... Thanks for ur help!

  • My Laptop Beeps when I try to USB boot install

    I tried to boot install Ubuntu using my laptop (without CD Drive) using a USB drive, then it goes to the boot selection menu (the one with the Ubuntu logo installation options). I selected Install then my laptop just beeps - 1 short beep, after that it stops then nothing installs, it just stays at the installation menu, can someone please help?   • Can't install Dual Boot from USB live - crash and nouvea problem

    I just got a new laptop with Windows 8 pre-installed and I'm trying to make a dual boot with Ubuntu on my other hard drive but I can't make the Live USB work. I followed all the procedure for disabling the Security Boot and the UEFI setting but still doesn't work. It seems to start the installing procedure but I never get to choose anything: after a few seconds the screen turns black with an error message [18.707838] divide error: 0000 [#1] SMP (it goes on for several lines quoting some nouveau problem). Any ideas?

    I am am using a Inventel UR054g (R01) usb wireless adaptor on my desktop. I had quite trouble setting it up but after installing ndiswrapper and prism2 drivers I got it up and running. However, I need to run in the command line the following to get it started; sudo dhcpcd wlan0 I want this top start automatically when I restart the PC.   • Custom Live CD using UCK

    I am trying to create a custom live iso that I can place onto thumb drives for the purpose of using putty to program Cisco switches and routers. I have ubuntu 14.04 LTS installed on a laptop and also installed UCK. I used the desktop image for 14.04 and created a custom ISO. I was able to run terminal and install the putty application and add a new user. I added the new user to the dialout group so they could then access the serial port. I am not exactly where I want to be yet, but it is a start. I have loaded the ISO to a USB drive using netbootin, but it will not boot into the live cd for me to test that everything works the way I need in the image. Is this because of the image I used? Any help would be great. Thank you.

    I have a upgraded 13.10 from 13.04 and today this issue of anything that is mouse-like is not seen by Ubuntu. The only input device that works is my Wacom Tablet and it's pen. I already checked for updates and have the latest updates for the Ubuntu system.   • How to tell thunar to stop using my device?

    When I do sudo umount /media/KINGSTON I got umount: /media/KINGSTON: device is busy. By using fuser -c /media/KINGSTON And cat /proc/<pid>/cmdline I found that the process is thunar--deamon. I closed all file manager windows. When I try to umount it by right cliking on the desktop, it also gave an error : An application is preventing the volume "KINGSTON" from being unmounted I am affraid that killing Thunar is going to impact other process running in other terminal. How can I tell it that I don't need this usb key anymore so it stop using it?

    I've installed Ubuntu 11.4 on my dell xps m2010 using wubi. Then booted up and could not connect to the Internet using 3three huawei e122 usb mobile broadband (I would like this to work also). I've managed to connect through a wireless network, I went to my favorite sites and was told I needed to install adobe flash player.This what I did players run and picture is good. But there is no sound! Then I've tried to play songs in Banshee, but no sound. I have checked everything in sound preferences including test speaker, there is sound. I have sigmatel sound card. I do not have an internal cd drive but wen I tried to install it using the external cd drive(from apple), the drive does not work (Apple made it clear that u cant do this). I tried using many tools. I downloaded the amd64+mac edition and copid it to my usb using unetbootin.. it said that it would not boot of mac but the instructions on another blog was that it has no problems as the iso will take care. it also instructed to install refit and it worked for him but dosent boot for me.   • After installing Ubuntu using WUBI, starting Ubuntu does not get further than the GRUB prompt

    I'm trying to install Ubuntu. I put Ubuntu on a USB flash drive using the WUBI installer. I get to where it finishes the install and it wants me to reboot. But when I reboot and then select Ubuntu, I get a black screen that says GNU GRUB version 1.99-21ubuntu3 Minimal BASH-like editing is supported. for the first word. TAB lists possible command completions. Anywhere else TAB lists possible device or file completions. Grub> When I type in some commands it says "Kernel not specified" and the rest of the commands give no feed back what so ever. What did i do wrong? Can anyone point me in the right direction. Please help this is very frustrating any help would be useful.
