  • Define variable in variable/parameter and use in javascript?

    I want to defined a variable/parameter in CSS and access it by javascript. What is the best way of doing this? One option I thought of would be to place a cutsom attribute on the body element, then access that attribute via jQuery. A little more info: I'm defining colour sets in CSS. I've created a function with RaphaelJS to draw a gradient background on the page. I want this function to use a highlight colour (which is not used elsewhere on the DOM) which will be defined in the CSS along with the other colour elements. Thanks

    I want to include certain .js and .css files only on pages that need them. For example, my EditorTemplate DateTime.ascx needs files anytimec.js and anytimec.css. That template is applied whenever I use either the EditorFor or EditorForModel helper methods in a view for a model with a DateTime type value. I've put this condition into the <head> section of my master page.     Hi. I got .asmx a web service on my app. I need to call a method from an other app to get statistics from my app. I need it to return XML. the call to the webmethod is done with javascript soap. There is a default hellow world webmethod and calling that work but it seem that when i try to call a method where i need to pass parameters and it need to execute code it wont work and just return my error message. any ideas on what can be wrong. am I using the wrong web method?

I have recently come across some extremely bad (in my eyes) legacy code that lends itself to chaos (someHugeJavafile.js) which contains a lot of the logic used in many of the pages. Let's say for example that you have a Form that you need to complete. 1. Personal Details 2. Address Information 3. Little bit more about yourself You don't want to overload the person with all the fields at once, so you decide to split it up into steps. Do you create separate pages for Personal Details, Address Information and a Little bit more about yourself. Do you create controls for each and hide and show them on a postback or using some update panel? Do you use jQuery and do some checking to ensure that the person has completed the required fields for the step and show the new "section" by using .show()? How do you usually find the balance?

    I've started to play with CRM Dynamics yesterday so this question should be seen as a very basic one. I've been coding for many years but CRM D is news to me. Apparently, one is supposed to be able to enter JavaScript code to customize the behavior of the application. I've understood that there's an API for that and that touching DOM directly or playing with jQuery is a no-no. Question: Where is the JS-code supposed to be entered? I've gone through all the menus but as far I can see, there's no spot where I could plug-in my custom code. E.g.: Where do I get to define a validation for the last name of a contact currently being defined?

    I am trying to create a PBBG (persistent browser based game) like that of OGame, Space4k, and others. My problem is with the always-updating resource collection and with the building times, as in a time is set when the building, ship, research, and etc completes building and updates the user's profile even if the user is offline. What and/or where should I learn to make this? Should it be a constantly running script in the background Note that I wish to only use PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Mysql but will learn something new if needed. Cron jobs or the Windows equivalent seem to be the way, but it doesn't seem right or best to me.c

    And there I thought I knew Wordpress well. It now seems that update_option() auto-escapes code. If I want to save some Javascript or HTML code in an option, this behavior renders the code unusable. I refuse to do a str_replace on the returned value to filter out every backslash. There has to be a better way. Here's the PHP for the text box to enter some code: $option = unserialize(get_option('option')); <textarea name="option[box]"><?php echo $option['box']; ?></textarea> This is what happens after submitting the form (in essence): update_option('option', serialize($_POST)); Any ideas?

  • Are there viable alternatives for Web 2.0 apps besides lots of Javascript?

    If you say find C-style syntax to be in the axis of evil are you just hopelessly condemned to suck it up and deal with it if you want to provide your users with cool web 2.0 applications - for example stuff that's generally done using JQuery and Ajax etc? Are there no other choices out there? We're currently building intranet apps using pylons and a bunch of JavaScript along with a bit of Evoque. So obviously for us the world would be a better place if instead something equivalent existed written in like PythonScript. But I've yet to seen anything approaching that aside from the Android system's ASE - but obviously that's something rather unrelated. Still - if browsers could support other scripting languages....

    I updated jQuery latest version v1.4.2 and getting 'Could not convert JavaScript argument arg 0' this error. Is the any common fix for this. I found some solution and they are saying that when finding dimension for display none element it will give this error. Also the following fix is working for me Placing this if (!elem || elem == document) elem = document.body above this line var computedStyle = defaultView.getComputedStyle(elem, null); I am not sure this is the proper solution. I first found this bug when using jquery blockUI plugin and after updating that plugin to latest version fixed this issue. Anyone suggest me better solution for this?

    Hi, I'm trying to prevent the back button from working on one of my asp.net mvc pages. I've read a couple of places that if i put "window.history.forward(1);" in my page it will prevent the back button from working on a given page. This is what I did in my page: <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { window.history.forward(1); }); </script> It doesn't seem to be working.     Hi there, I am implementing a CMS, the case is that the "Web-Editable" is in a different domain thus, I would be able just get the page using HttpRequest in order to copy and show it in the CMS server to make it able to change it (DOM just visual purpose) and save the changes to the CSS and JavaScript folder on the "Web-Editable" using FTP. I am not allow to download all the information included on the "Web-Editable" trough the FTP, and there are other dinamic images as well comming from a private database. The question is, anyone knows how to make a httprequest "cascade" to get all the 1st level information you see when you visit a Web? Thank you in advance, Efrain

    I can't fins any information on how to define css or javascript files in a view like: class MyView(View): .... class Media: css = { 'all' : 'mystyle.css' } If you have a form you can do like: class MyForm(ModelForm): .... class Media: css = { 'all' : 'mystyle.css' } And then in the template you can print the files like; {{ form.media.css }} I like that Syntax very much and I like to keep the View-specific css files in the app-directory.     I started messing with EF 4.0 because I am curious about the POCO possibilities... I wanted to simulate disconnected web environment and wrote the following code to simulate this: Save a test object in the database. Retrieve the test object Dispose of the DataContext associated with the test object I used to retrieve it Update the test object Create a new data context and persist the changes on the test object that are automatically tracked within the DynamicProxy generated against my POCO object. The problem is that when I call dataContext.SaveChanges in the Test method above, the updates are not applied. The testStore entity shows a status of "Modified" when I check its EntityStateTracker, but it is no longer modified when I view it within the new dataContext's Stores property. I would have thought that calling the Attach method on the new dataContext would also bring the object's "Modified" state over, but that appears to not be the case. Is there something I am missing?   • How to add dynamic profile fields in Invision Power Board?

    I run a game server and want to link the persons in game character name and stats to Invision Power Board. I've setup IPB so players currently login with their in game login. That means their username on the forum is the same as their username for the game. They can have multiple characters on 1 account so ideally I'd like to allow them to choose a main character and display an actual image of that character and allow them to display other characters if they are online. Currently I'm doing something like this by hacking profileFields.php but it's messy and not very efficient on the user or server end. My code currently uses 2 custom fields which the player can enter their character names in. To display only their main character they enter the name in the first field. To also display other characters if they are online they enter the same name into the second field. To resolve the IDs I have to run a lot of queries. I know PHP but I am not familiar with IPBs code at all. I just need pointed in a direction where I can combine the 2 fields into 1 field. tl;dr: Here is my setup: Invision Power Board 3 Data is stored in MySQL on the same server the forum is hosted on. Usernames on the forum are identical to usernames in the game Here is a breakdown of what I'd like to do: In the edit profile section I need to resolve the forum username to the games account id then: Display a list of characters and allow them to choose which characters they want to display if they are online as well as a default character that will be displayed if none are online. In the posts user info pane: Display the online character or the default if none are online. Here is what I need to know: How to generate a list of characters in the profile edit form and allow selection (checkbox) of each character to display as well as the selection of a default character (radio or dropdown?) How to fetch the data and place it in the posts user info pane

    In our views/layout/default.ctp file we have an element that's used to implement a cascading combo select box which uses JQuery ajax to update the fields. This selector is part of our navbar and is loaded on every page of the site. However, on the cars/index.ctp it doesn't work. It only works when we comment out the 'tools.scrollable' include. Any ideas why there is this conflict? The sign-out link is rendered using Navigation MenuModel. When I remove/comment the "onclick" part, the page gets submitted properly. I use MyFaces Trinidad.

    Hello, I am looking for a configurable / tunable on Solaris 9 through which I can change the default thread stack size without recompiling the code to use "pthread_attr_setstacksize" For example on HPUX 11.11 / 11.23 the environment variable "PTHREAD_DEFAULT_STACK_SIZE" can be exported (available via HPUX patches PHCO_38307 / PHCO_38955 ) - Is there a equivalent Solaris 9 way to achieve the same ?
