    Do data sources that you set up (particularly to SQL Server) travel with a mail merge document? In other words, if I set up data sources in a mail merge document on my machine and then save and send that document to a co-worker and she opens it on her machine, will the data sources still be there when she opens it? Or, will she have to set them up again herself?

    A few friends of mine and including me for the past few years have hosted an irc server on one of our dedicated servers. We use it for just personal reasons. We like the aspect of it that it allows private messages and chat rooms. Plus the ability to send/receive files and is cross platform (Linux/Mac/Windows/Mobile). Our domain is about to expire and we are looking to move onto something new. So we are looking for a chat client / server that offers the following: Chatroom (multiple people chatting together in the same box) File transfers Private messages Cross Platform (especially mobile ie: Blackberry and Android) We don't have to host it but that isn't out of the question Logging on the client side (we say a lot of crap and like to go back and quote said crap) SSL/TLS Some sort of encryption some of the stuff said/sent is of a sensitive nature ie: business nature

    I am about to start working with a Mac and a PC - so I will be doing some work on the PC and some work on the Mac. I think my main concern is my Exchange email. DO you think its possible to check email on both machines - perhaps a setting to download to the Mac but keep a copy on the server or how would you suggest juggling both these machines at work?

  • How to query a DHCP server to get the local DNS serves

    I have a ClarkConnect (CentOS based) box running as my home router on a RR connection. I had the DNS servers set up to use Google's DNS server. I want to change them back to the local DNS servers but I can't find an obvious/easy way to get those address short of a)reconfiguring the router's network to DHCP them (would rather not interrupt everyone) or b)calling their T/S (kill me now!). Is there a command line tool/command I can use to query the DHCP server on the external NIC to see what DNS servers it would set me up with w/o munging my existing setup?

    I have a Linksys WRT54GL router that I don't need anymore, since I had to buy a 3G capable router (Dovado 3GN). As I only have a 3G connection at home, I want to optimize it as much as possible. I want to setup a caching DNS server, including some blacklisting of ad domains. The router currently runs the DD-WRT firmware. Is it possible to use this router as an ordinary computer, running only a DNS server, disabling all other features such as DHCP, WLAN, etc? Connecting it to my other router, should I simply run a cable into the WAN-port of the Linksys router?

  • Video issues with old server running Boxee

    I have a old Dell Power Edge 1650 1U rackmount server running Windows XP. Dual 1.3 ghz Processors and 1 GB of RAM. I would like to run Boxee on it, but the 8mb integrated video card will not support it. The font within Boxee just comes up as blocks of color. I have a PCI Radion R9000 dual out video card. However when I plug it in I can not get video signal on any of the VGA outs. Is it possible to upgrade the video card on this old of a server, or is it possible to make it work with the older integrated video?

    Are there any windows applications that serve video from a server's local disk to h264 flash viewable through the browser on your local network? I'm thinking that on machine1, I'd have a folder with a ton of videos. This program would serve the videos on a website visible at http://machine1/myvids and that it would serve them in h264 and do the h264 conversion on the fly using the GPU. I know it's a lofty set of reqs but I'm wondering if anything like this is out there.

    OK I'll be more specific - I have uploaded a bunch of folders via ftp. These now all have the the owner name of the account which I logged into FTP using. How do I change the owner to be the server name? and How do I find out what name the server is using? I'm pretty new to server permissions and the like, so please be gentle :) BTW, I'm using a linux server.

I don't plan on wanting to check the server every so often, so how can I have an email sent when a drive goes kapüt or otherwise has problems?     Hello, i need a recomendation on what hardware (PC) to buy in order to achieve this task: I have a webserver (WAMP) running in my laptop, this server has a webapp who can manage information from a user. In a few words, a user enter in my webserver and a php script ask gim for a mensage who get store in a MYSql database, in other hand, inside the same PC there is a flash running with a frontend who take this mensages and shows it. My english is bad, maybe this diagram may help you: Well i want to connect the pc who runs all (Webserver, MySQL server, Flash front end) to a LCD TV in order to create something like an information spot that will be on almost all day (sometimes all day). Do you recomend to have the webserver and the frontend in the same pc? or to separate in two? What hardware do you recomend? i mean, type of pc, with fans or no, please cheap solutions but good.     I need to have at least one microphone on Windows to make Skype calls, but i have a VPS with Windows 2003 server with no audio device. I googled a lot and finally i found something called "Virtual Audio Cable", a tool to install virtual audio drivers ( http://software.muzychenko.net/eng/vac.html ). I tried many times but i couldn't get this driver work, so i'm asking if someone know a similar solution, i mean a virtual microphone or a way to make skype working without any microphone.   • Streaming media from linux server - low footprint is crucial

    I recently pre-ordered the Raspberry Pi. http://www.raspberrypi.org/faqs For those of you who don't know it, it's a machine with 256 mb ram and a 700 MHz processor for $35. I plan to run linux on an SD card on this machine and have it act as both a htpc, VPN and media server. In regard to the media server part, I need to find some linux software that has a small footprint, but allows me to stream media to other devices connected to the internet (preferably without having to install any additional software on the client machines) Also, I would love if the video could be compressed, so the data usage wouldn't be so big for the client machine (e.g. when I'm using my data plan on my smartphone ;) ) Thanks in advance for any answers :) Mike.
