• DIVS over flash movies in Internet Explorer

  The age old question... why the hell doesn't a div positioned over a flash object stay on top with z-index. I have found the answer in the past, but it's been so long, I can't seem to get it. My flash movie is in a div floating left: <div id="flash"> <object width="614" height="289"> <param name="movie" value="images/75.swf"> <param name="wmode" value="transparent"> <embed src="images/75.swf" width="614" height="289" wmode"transparent"> </embed> </object> </div> My css for the div that needs to be on top is: .menu ul li:hover ul li a:hover { background:#5a3f2d; color:#FFF; z-index: 9999; I cannot get it to show above the flash movie in ie6 or ie8. I know this is old school but I'm frustrated! Does my nav div need to have an absolute position? Is that why it doesn't work? Example is here. • How to disable vertical bounce/scroll on iPhone in a mobile web application

  As the title says, i need to disable vertical bounce on iphone on my mobile web form application. Ive tried alot of different things, but most of them disables my form or horizontal scroll and bounce as well. Any ideas? Im using jquery.mobile btw :) Update: I actually managed to get the code from the first answer working somewhat: function stopScrolling( touchEvent ) { touchEvent.preventDefault(); } document.addEventListener( 'touchstart' , stopScrolling , false ); document.addEventListener( 'touchmove' , stopScrolling , false ); The reason why I couldnt get it to work in the first place, was that there actually was some margin on my body (stupid me). But. As the layout is fluid and im using jquery.mobile and have <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1, maximum-scale=1"> in the header (I think) it doesnt work properly. The page is zoomed out (view from like a desktop browser) and zooming is disabled. Without the code, the page scales perfectly right from an 50" tv to the smallest nokia on the planet. Am I doing something wrong? Im starting to think the problem is caused by the body/content somehow being over 100% of the viewport. No idea how though.

  I have a class 'button' that I want to use for button, input and a tags. The problem is that both button and input tags have a greater line height than the anchor tag does. • Does HttpListener work well on Mono?

  Hi everyone. I'm looking to write a small web service to run on a small Linux box. I prefer to code in C#, so I'm looking to use Mono. I don't want the overhead of running a full web server or Mono's version of ASP.NET. I'm thinking of having a single process with a thread dealing with each client connection. Shared memory between threads instead of a database. I've read a little on Microsoft's version of HttpListener and how it works with the Http.sys driver. Alas, Mono's documentation on this class is just the automated class interface with no discussion of how it works under the hood. (Linux doesn't have Http.sys, so I imagine it's implemented substantially differently.) Could anyone point me towards some resources discussing this module please? Some time ago, I asked this question, interested in keeping a long conversation open with lots of back-and-forth. I had settled on designing my own ad-hoc protocol, but people I spoke to really wanted a REST interface, even at the cost of the "Okay, send your command now" signal. So, I wondered about running ASP.NET on a Linux/Mono server, but stumbled upon HttpListener. This seemed ideal, as each "conversation" could run in a separate thread. The thread that calls HttpListener in a loop can look for which thread each incomming connection is for and pass the reference to that thread. The alternative for an ASP.NET driven service, would be to have the ASPX code pick up the state from a database, and write back the new state when it finishes. Yes, it would work, but that's a lot of overhead.

• Should we migrate from svn to Team Foundation Server 2010?

  We are with 6 developer and currently use Visual Studio 2008 Professional with SVN and Visual SVN. As soon as vs2010 is released we will upgrade from vs2008 pro to vs2010 premium. However if Team Foundation Server has a proper source control included in vs2010 premium, then it does make sense to use it. We like SVN, but like tight integration of tools even better. On the internet information on SVN versus TFS 2010 seems to be scarce. Hence my question here. EDIT: This video looks very compelling. Is this marketing talk or real? Thank you all for your replies! I absolutely appreciate this. A little more background info. This is our current stack; vs2008 pro, Visual SVN, SVN, Jetbrain Teamcity. My main problem is that we use a lot of tools from different vendors which more or less integrate. Sometime more, mostly less. At least it takes a lot of time to set it up correctly. We currently do not use branches, but we want to. Therefore we have to set up SVN from scratch (we looked into it carefully). So let me rephrase my question: Should we set up SVN or start using TFS?

  Hi. I have a project in wich I must create a form editor (just like infopath) using wpf. For this I thought to use a RichTextBox and in there I would place InlineUIElements with the different controls (TextBox, ComboBox, etc.). The problem is that I can't change some properties associated with those controls. Here's some XAML: <RichTextBox> <FlowDocument> <Paragraph> <InlineUIContainer> <TextBox Background="Red">Some Text</TextBox> </InlineUIContainer> </Paragraph> </FlowDocument> </RichTextBox> This displays a TextBox in a RichTextBox just like I wanted but it's not red. • Extracting email addresses in an html block in ruby/rails

  I am creating a parser that wards off against spamming and harvesting of emails from a block of text that comes from tinyMCE (so it may or may not have html tags in it) I've tried regexes and so far this has been successful: /\b[A-Z0-9._%+-]+@[A-Z0-9.-]+\.[A-Z]{2,4}\b/i problem is, i need to ignore all email addresses with mailto hrefs. for example: <a href="mailto:[email protected]">[email protected]</a> should only return the second email add. To get a background of what im doing, im reversing the email addresses in a block so the above example would look like this: <a href="mailto:[email protected]">moc.liam@tset</a> problem with my current regex is that it also replaces the one in href. Is there a way for me to do this with a single regex? Or do i have to check for one then the other? Is there a way for me to do this just by using gsub or do I have to use some nokogiri/hpricot magicks and whatnot to parse the mailtos? Thanks in advance! • Avoid the collapsing effect on TreeView after updating data

  I have a TreeView used to display events. It works great, however every time new events are coming in and populating the tree collapse the tree again to the original position. That is very annoying when the refresh time is less than 1 second and it does not allow the user to interact with the items of the tree. • NTLM Authentication fails when behind Proxy server

  Hi All, I've seen a number of post about consuming Web Services from behind a proxy server, but none that seams to address this problem. I'm building a desktop application, using Java, JAX-WS in NetBeans. I have a working prototype, that can query the server for authentication mode, successfully authenticate and retrieve a list of web site. However, if I run the same app from a network that is behind a proxy server (the proxy does not require authentication), then I'm running into trouble. I know from the Java docs that On Microsoft Windows platforms, NTLM authentication attempts to acquire the user credentials from the system without prompting the user's authenticator object. If these credentials are not accepted by the server then the user's authenticator will be called. Given that my Authentication code is called only ones, and only as the 5th attempt, it appears as if the connection is dropped when behind the proxy server before my Authentication object is used. Is there any way I can control the behavior of Authentication module, to not have it use the system credentials? • Parsing basic math equations for children's educational software?

  Inspired by a recent TED talk, I want to write a small piece of educational software. The researcher created little miniature computers in the shape of blocks called "Siftables". [David Merril, inventor - with Siftables in the background.] There were many applications he used the blocks in but my favorite was when each block was a number or basic operation symbol. You could then re-arrange the blocks of numbers or operation symbols in a line, and it would display an answer on another siftable block. So, I've decided I wanted to implemented a software version of "Math Siftables" on a limited scale as my final project for a CS course I'm taking. What is the generally accepted way for parsing and interpreting a string of math expressions, and if they are valid, perform the operation? Is this a case where I should implement a full parser/lexer? I would imagine interpreting basic math expressions would be a semi-common problem in computer science so I'm looking for the right way to approach this. For example, if my Math Siftable blocks where arranged like: [1] [+] [2] This would be a valid sequence and I would perform the necessary operation to arrive at "3". However, if the child were to drag several operation blocks together such as: [2] [\] [\] [5] It would obviously be invalid. Ultimately, I want to be able to parse and interpret any number of chains of operations with the blocks that the user can drag together. Can anyone explain to me or point me to resources for parsing basic math expressions? I'd prefer as much of a language agnostic answer as possible.

• Authenticating GTK app to run with root permissions

  I have a UI app (uses GTK) for Linux that requires to be run as root (it reads and writes /dev/disk*). Instead of requiring the user to open a root shell or use "sudo" manually every time when he launches my app, I wonder if the app can use some OS-provided API to ask the user to relaunch the app with root permissions. (Note: gtk app's can't use "setuid" mode, so that's not an option here.) The advantage here would be an easier workflow: The user could, from his default user account, double click my app from the desktop, and the app then would relaunch itself with root permission after been authenticated by the API/OS. I ask this because OS X offers exactly this: An app can ask the OS to launch an executable with root permissions - the OS (and not the app) then asks the user to input his credentials, verifies them and then launches the target as desired. I wonder if there's something similar for Linux (Ubuntu, e.g.) Update: The app is a remote operated disk repair tool for the unsavvy Linux user, and those Linux noobs won't have much understanding of using sudo or even changing their user's group memberships, especially if their disk just started acting up and they're freaking out. That's why I seek a solution that avoids technicalities like this.

  I'm in the process of porting an app to JavaScript/CSS and it uses right-click. For some reason Firefox 3.6 for Windows isn't issuing a right-click event, but Chrome and IE do. Here's some test code. • What issues to consider when rolling your own data-backend for Silverlight / AJAX on non-ASP.NET ser

  I have read-only Silverlight and AJAX apps which read static text and XML files from a PHP/Apache server, which works very nicely with features such as asynchronous loading, lazy-loading only what I need for each page, loading in the background, developed a little query language to get a PHP script to create custom XML files etc. it's pragmatic read-only REST, and all works fast and fine for read-only sites. Now I want to also add the ability to write data from these apps to a database on the same PHP/Apache server. For those of you who have built similar data-access layers, what do I need to consider while building this, especially regarding security so that not just any client can write and alter my database, e.g.: check HTTP_USER_AGENT for security check REMOTE_ADDR for security require a special code for security, perhaps a list of TAN codes (such as banks use for online transactions) each which can only be used once, both the client and server have these I wonder if there is some kind of standard REST query I should lean on for e.g. building SQL-like statements in the URL parameters, e.g. http://www.thedatalayersite.com/query?insertinto=customers&... Any thoughts, notes from experience, ideas, gotchas, especially ideas on tightening down security in this endeavor would be helpful.

• Help with animating an element in jQuery

  I have an unordered list with a few list elements. #tags { width: 300px; height: 300px; position: relative; border: 1px solid red; list-style: none none; } #tags li { position: absolute; background: gray; } I have also started writing a jQuery plugin to animate the list elements. So far, I place the list elements randomly in the parent container, and choose a random font size for the text. My next step (which I am a bit stuck on) is to animate the list elements... essentially, I want the list elements to do something like this Slide from left to right whilst getting slightly larger up to the middle and then dropping in size back to normal when it hits the right border. Then, it should do the same in reverse, however it should also set a negative 'z-index' and maybe fade in opacity a bit. The first bit I'm really stuck on, is how to determine if the element is near the middle, in a way that I can have a value that starts at 0.1 on the far left hand size and is 1 in the middle and then back to 0.1 on the far right hand size. Basically, I want them to appear as if they are going around in a faux 3D circle into the page. Then I could do something like this $(this).css({ fontSize: percentageTowardsMiddle * 14, }); Do you know how I could do this? Thanks

• Overload Resolution and Optional Arguments in C# 4

  I am working with some code that has seven overloads of a function TraceWrite: void TraceWrite(string Application, LogLevelENUM LogLevel, string Message, string Data = ""); void TraceWrite(string Application, LogLevelENUM LogLevel, string Message, bool LogToFileOnly, string Data = ""); void TraceWrite(string Application, LogLevelENUM LogLevel, string Message, string PieceID, string Data = ""); void TraceWrite(string Application, LogLevelENUM LogLevel, string Message, LogWindowCommandENUM LogWindowCommand, string Data = ""); void TraceWrite(string Application, LogLevelENUM LogLevel, string Message, bool UserMessage, int UserMessagePercent, string Data = ""); void TraceWrite(string Application, LogLevelENUM LogLevel, string Message, string PieceID, LogWindowCommandENUM LogWindowCommand, string Data = ""); void TraceWrite(string Application, LogLevelENUM LogLevel, string Message, LogWindowCommandENUM LogWindowCommand, bool UserMessage, int UserMessagePercent, string Data = ""); (All public static, namespacing noise elided above and throughout.) So, with that background: 1) Elsewhere, I call TraceWrite with four arguments: string, LogLevelENUM, string, bool, and I get the following errors: error CS1502: The best overloaded method match for 'TraceWrite(string, LogLevelENUM, string, string)' has some invalid arguments error CS1503: Argument '4': cannot convert from 'bool' to 'string' Why doesn't this call resolve to the second overload? (TraceWrite(string, LogLevelENUM, string, bool, string = "")) 2) If I were to call TraceWrite with string, LogLevelENUM, string, string, which overload would be called? The first or the third? And why?

• BindingList<T> and reflection!

  Background Working in .NET 2.0 Here, reflecting lists in general. I was originally using t.IsAssignableFrom(typeof(IEnumerable)) to detect if a Property I was traversing supported the IEnumerable Interface. (And thus I could cast the object to it safely) However this code was not evaluating to True when the object is a BindingList<T>. Next I tried to use t.IsSubclassOf(typeof(IEnumerable)) and didn't have any luck either. (Already Working) Once inside this function, given the object the property resides on, and the PropertyInfo related, get the value of the property, cast it to an IEnumerable (assuming it's possible) and then iterate through each child and call ReflectObject(...) on the child with the count variable.

• Calculate order price by date selection value

• Image Masking Problem

  Hi I am doing image masking. First I was using C*GImageMaskCreate()* function for masking but now I am using your solution which you had posted for masking. My problem is it works fine on simulator but on device it is not transparent and it gives rectangle of mask image at background. The following is my code. Now tell me what I have to do? Thanks. • Embedded non-relational (nosql) data store

  I'm thinking about using/implementing some kind of an embedded key-value (or document) store for my Windows desktop application. I want to be able to store various types of data (GPS tracks would be one example) and of course be able to query this data. The amount of data would be such that it couldn't all be loaded into memory at the same time. I'm thinking about using sqlite as a storage engine for a key-value store, something like y-serial, but written in .NET. I've also read about FriendFeed's usage of MySQL to store schema-less data, which is a good pointer on how to use RDBMS for non-relational data. sqlite seems to be a good option because of its simplicity, portability and library size. My question is whether there are any other options for an embedded non-relational store? It doesn't need to be distributable and it doesn't have to support transactions, but it does have to be accessible from .NET and it should have a small download size. UPDATE: I've found an article titled SQLite as a Key-Value Database which compares sqlite with Berkeley DB, which is an embedded key-value store library.
