• CruiseControl.NET : Sending email using SVN username to ActiveDirectory mapping

  Is it possible to configure CruiseControl.NET to send an email to the user(s) that did modifications to a broken build by mapping their SVN username to the corresponding Active-Directory alias (hence retrieving the correct, updated email address). Our SVN server is set-up to allow users of a certain Active-Directory group to read and commit changes: I don't want to have to maintain the CruiseControl.NET config every time a user gets added to our Programmers group in Active-Directory. • How do I get a pathname in ASP.NET?

I (obviously) can use the asp:FileUpload to get a file but I can't find anything to just get a directory path. Is there any (preferably simple) way to have a directory-chooser dialog in asp.net? I haven't been able to find any solution on Google or SO yet... Thanks

• Good reasons to pass paths as strings instead of using DirectoryInfo/FileInfo

  In my new code I am not using strings to pass directory paths or file names. Instead I am using DirectoryInfo and FileInfo as they seem to encapsulate a lot of information. I have seen a lot of code that uses strings to pass directory information then they "split" and "mid" and "instr" in long incomprehensible statements until they get the part of the directory they are looking for. Is there any good reason to pass paths as strings?

Both the test1 and test2 folders already exist. rename( "test1", "test2/xxx1/xxx2" ); The error I get is: rename(...): No such file or directory I assume this is because the directory "xxx1" does not exist. • Login loop in Snow Leopard

  I can't get out of a login loop of a particular admin user. After entering the password the login screen is shown again after about a minute. Other users work fine. It started happening after a simple reboot. Can you please help me? Thank you! Tried to no avail: Change the password Remove the password Repair disk (no errors) Boot in safe mode Reinstall Snow Leopard and updating to 10.6.6 Remove content of ~/Library/Caches Removed content of ~/Library/Preferences Replaced /etc/authorization with Install DVD copy The system.log mentions a crash report. • Why does my game loop speed vary on different platforms with the same hardware?

  I've got a serious issue with my game loop. This loop varies in time with the platform and with the same hardware. This is a list of FPS achieved: - Windows ======= 140 to 150 - Linux ======= 120 to 125 - Windows(WINE) ======= 125 to 135 And since my game loop is fixed timestep, the speed of the game is not stable. • What are the pros and cons of a non-fixed-interval update loop?

  I am studying various approaches to implementing a game loop and I have found this article. In the article the author implements a loop which, if the processing falls behind in time, skips frame renderings and just updates the game in a loop (the last variant called "Constant Game Speed independent of Variable FPS"). I do not understand why it is acceptable to call update_game() in a loop without making sure the update function is called at a particular interval. I do not see any value in doing this. I would think that in my game I want to be sure the game is updated periodically with a known period. So maybe it is worthwhile to have two threads, one would call update periodically, and the other one would redraw the game, also periodically? Would this be a good and practical approach? Of course I would need to synchronise the threads.

• VBA nested Loop flow control

  I will be brief and stick to what I know. This code for the most part works as it should. The only issue is in the iteration of the x and z loop. these to loops should set the range and yLABEL for the Y loop. I can get through a set and come up with the correct range after that things go bonkers. I know some of it has to do with not breaking out of x to set z and then back to x update the range. It should work z is found then x. the range between them is set for y. then next x but y stays then rang between y and x is set for y.. so on and so forth kinda like a slinky down the stairs. or a slide rule depending on how I set the loops either way I end up all over the place after a couple iterations. I have done a few things but each time I break out of x to set z , X restarts at the top of the range. At least that's what I think I am seeing. In the example sheet i have since changed the way the way the offset works with the loop but the idea is still the same. I have goto statements at this time i was going to try figuring out conditional switches after the loops were working. Any help direction or advice is appreciated. • Lockless queue implementation ends up having a loop under stress

  I have lockless queues written in C in form of a linked list that contains requests from several threads posted to and handled in a single thread. After a few hours of stress I end up having the last request's next pointer pointing to itself, which creates an endless loop and locks up the handling thread. The application runs (and fails) on both Linux and Windows. I'm debugging on Windows, where my COMPARE_EXCHANGE_PTR maps to InterlockedCompareExchangePointer. This is the code that pushes a request to the head of the list, and is called from several threads: void push_request(struct request * volatile * root, struct request * request) { assert(request); do { request->next = *root; } while(COMPARE_EXCHANGE_PTR(root, request, request->next) != request->next); } This is the code that gets a request from the end of the list, and is only called by a single thread that is handling them: struct request * pop_request(struct request * volatile * root) { struct request * volatile * p; struct request * request; do { p = root; while(*p && (*p)->next) p = &(*p)->next; // <- loops here request = *p; } while(COMPARE_EXCHANGE_PTR(p, NULL, request) != request); assert(request->next == NULL); return request; } Note that I'm not using a tail pointer because I wanted to avoid the complication of having to deal with the tail pointer in push_request. However I suspect that the problem might be in the way I find the end of the list. There are several places that push a request into the queue, but they all look generaly like this: // device->requests is defined as struct request * volatile requests; struct request * request = malloc(sizeof(struct request)); if(request) { // fill out request fields push_request(&device->requests, request); sem_post(device->request_sem); } The code that handles the request is doing more than that, but in essence does this in a loop: if(sem_wait_timeout(device->request_sem, timeout) == sem_success) { struct request * request = pop_request(&device->requests); // handle request free(request); } I also just added a function that is checking the list for duplicates before and after each operation, but I'm afraid that this check will change the timing so that I will never encounter the point where it fails. (I'm waiting for it to break as I'm writing this.) When I break the hanging program the handler thread loops in pop_request at the marked position. I have a valid list of one or more requests and the last one's next pointer points to itself. The request queues are usually short, I've never seen more then 10, and only 1 and 3 the two times I could take a look at this failure in the debugger. I thought this through as much as I could and I came to the conclusion that I should never be able to end up with a loop in my list unless I push the same request twice. I'm quite sure that this never happens. I'm also fairly sure (although not completely) that it's not the ABA problem. I know that I might pop more than one request at the same time, but I believe this is irrelevant here, and I've never seen it happening. (I'll fix this as well) I thought long and hard about how I can break my function, but I don't see a way to end up with a loop. So the question is: Can someone see a way how this can break? Can someone prove that this can not? Eventually I will solve this (maybe by using a tail pointer or some other solution - locking would be a problem because the threads that post should not be locked, I do have a RW lock at hand though) but I would like to make sure that changing the list actually solves my problem (as opposed to makes it just less likely because of different timing).

• QLogic QLE8152 won't link up with a fiber loop

  I have a Dell R710 running Debian Linux 6.0 (Squeeze). I installed a QLogic QLE8152 CNA in the PCI-E riser today and I have been trying to get the CNA's ethernet layer to come up after I put a fiber loop on it; I also scoped it with a light meter, and the SFP+ transceiver is getting the correct amount of light. The whole time I have been working on this problem, the lights on the CNA are blinking green at a rate of about 1 flash every 3 seconds. When I plug the fiber into a Juniper EX4500 10GE in a rack next to it, the Juniper's link stays down as well. I have to confess that this is my first wrangling with a CNA, so perhaps I'm doing something fundamentally wrong, but here is what I have found so far... First the basics... • Setting up apache to view https pages

  I am trying to set up a site using vmware workstation, ubuntu 11.10, and apache2. The site works fine but now the https pages are not showing up. For example if I try to go to https://www.mysite.com/checkout I just see the message Not Found The requested URL /checkout/ was not found on this server. • Weird vps server issue

  I have an unmanaged linux vps Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot). I have LNMP installed. Also php-fpm php-apc, varnish, memcache. I have (or rather had) several live sites on it. under normal load the server uses ~700 mb memory. But since last night its using only 20mb~ memory and a lot of the services seems to be down (according to htop) I only see nginx working and mysql starts up and goes does every few minutes on a loop. • Samba: share home directories when home directories are symbolic links

  I have set up a new Ubuntu 9.10 system for five users. In the system is a large LVM volume where all the data is to be kept. The main system disk is not for this purpose, so I attempted to move the home directories using usermod -d /var/data/username -m And started creating my shares for these new home locations. But then I thought: hey, Samba has built-in home directory sharing! So I enabled that, and it didn't work. The shares were not published to the network. Only the share for user 'owen' was published; his folder hadn't been moved. Given the aforementioned instructions, I've come up with this command. It creates a file called IncludeTheseFiles which lists all the .php files, then the tar is supposed to do it's job only using the files listed in IncludeTheseFiles find myProjectDirectory -type f -print | \ egrep '(\.[php]|[Mm]akefile)$' > IncludeTheseFiles tar cvf myProjectTarName -I IncludeTheseFiles However, when I run this it doesn't like the I include option? tar: invalid option -- I

• pure-ftpd: one readonly/non-deletable file in home directory

  Is there a way to have a file in the user's FTP home directory without the ability to modify/remove it from that directory over FTP? So the user has write permissions on his own home folder, thus the ability to remove files. An exception should be made for a single file, which has the same filename and contents for each account. The solution I'm thinking of right now to run a periodic script to check the presence of that file, and if not, put it back. But I wonder whether there's a better solution than this.

• Outlook users connected to exchange can email from other email accounts

  We have found an issue on our systems whereby an outlook user (both 2007 and 2010) connected to our Exchange server (2007) can send emails as other users using the following steps Within Outlook Click <New Email> Select the <From> button to show a list of accounts outlook contains, but it also shows the option Select<Other Email Address>. This brings up a small dialog box with another button which when selected allows the user to select an email from their contacts or the Active Directory. The user in most cases can select any email within the Active Directory and send an email as if it were coming from that selected email. It seems not everyone has this ability and I'm guessing it is something to do with settings in exchange or AD(version 6) or is there a group policy that can be implemented to stop users being able to do this. We have no idea what allows this and I have failed to find anything using Dr Google. No one has setup delegates within outlook but it does seem to be something similar? Does anyone know how to lock this down? Thanks in advance

• Could I use directory junctions (symbolic link) to share music between 2 users in Windows 7

  I want to have 2 users be able to use the same itunes library and be able to sync an ipod which ever user is logged in. I tried making both the My Music folders point to the same folder, but that didn't work. One itunes would not store its library info in that folder. I was wondering if I could create a junction directory so that I can have both My Music folders redirect to a common library folder. I've only read about directory junctions , I havn't tried them.

• How can i link a oracle user to a business objects user

  I have a problem with linking the oracle user to a business objects user. I will try to explain it as detailed as possible; I have a Oracle database (10g) where a couple of users are defined. These users can query on information with application X. Those records will then be written into the oracle database. The records that is written into the database has a ID that links to the person that has run the query. I also have a active directory in wich a couple of users are made; testuser1, testuser2. When those users log on, and want to load a report in Business Objects XI i want them to see the information that was created when the report was activated by that same user that had runned the query before with application X. The name of the person in the active directory and the name in the oracle database are not the same but i dont think that would be a problem in this stage. So the steps i took: First, i run a report in application X (with a account prodpim_rs) wich fills my Oracle database with a record. The second step is logging on as testuser1 (from the AD) and then login on Business Objects XI with the account. Now i want to load a report with the information in my Oracle database. So the prodpim_rs user and the testuser must have a link between them. I am wondering how to forfill this. Can i link the account, wich is made in a Oracle database, with the user of BO wich is linked to my AD? Thank you in advance for your reply Robert

• Copy a file to a new directory path in DOS

  How can I copy a file using DOS commands into a directory structure that may not yet exist? I need to be able to force the creation of the directory path to the target file location if that location doesn't already exist. For example, there is already a file.txt in this location: C:\file.txt And I want to copy it to C:\example\new\path\to\copy\of\file\file.txt but at this time C:\example\ and all the subdirectories may or may not yet exist. Basically, I am looking for a "copy and create the target path if necessary" command. What would you recommend is the best way to achieve this?
