  Hi All, I am looking after fixing a bug and there I find this expression:- directoryPath = Regex.Replace(directoryPath, "[^\\w\\.@-]", ""); but as a result of the expression all the high ascii characters in directory path are messed up, I am not good at regex and dont know about it but for now I have to fix the issue .   I am trying to become more familiar with using the builtin string matching stuff available in shells in linux. I came across this guys posting, and he showed an example a="abc|def" echo ${a#*|} # will yield "def" echo ${a%|*} # will yield "abc" I tried it out and it does what its advertised to do, but I don't understand what the $,{},#,*,| are doing, I tried looking for some reference online or in the manuals but I couldn't find anything.   Is it anyway possible to observe if a UIAlertView is being displayed and call a function when it is. The UIAlertView is not being created and displayed in the same class which I want a function to be called in. Its hard to explain but to put it simply I need to somehow monitor or observe if the view becomes like out of first responder or something because I dont think it is possible to monitor if a UIAlertView is being displayed :/

  Consider the following snippet: puts 'hello'.gsub(/.+/, '\0 \\0 \\\0 \\\\0') This prints (as seen on ideone.com): hello hello \0 \0 This was very surprising, because I'd expect to see something like this instead: hello \0 \hello \\0 My argument is that \ is an escape character, so you write \\ to get a literal backslash, thus \\0 is a literal backslash \ followed by 0, etc. Obviously this is not how gsub is interpreting it, so can someone explain what's going on? And what do I have to do to get the replacement I want above?
